1Había en Cesarea un varón llamado Cornelio, el cual era centurión en una cohorte de la legión llamada Itálica,
2hombre religioso, y temeroso de Dios con toda su familia, y que daba muchas limosnas al pueblo, y hacía continua oración a Dios.
3Este, pues, a eso de las tres de la tarde, en una visión vio claramente a un ángel del Señor entrar en su aposento, y decirle: ¡Cornelio!
4Y él, mirándole sobrecogido de temor, dijo: ¿Qué queréis de mí, Señor? Le respondió: Tus oraciones y tus limosnas han subido hasta arriba en el acatamiento de Dios haciendo memoria de ti.
5Ahora, pues, envía a alguno a Jope en busca de un tal Simón, llamado Pedro,
6el cual está hospedado en casa de otro Simón curtidor, cuya casa está cerca del mar: éste te dirá lo que te conviene hacer.
7Luego que se retiró el ángel que le hablaba, llamó a dos de sus domésticos y a un soldado de los que estaban a sus órdenes, temeroso de Dios;
8a los cuales, después de habérselo confiado todo, los envió a Jope.
9El día siguiente, mientras estaban ellos haciendo su viaje, y acercándose a la ciudad, subió Pedro a lo alto de la casa, cerca del mediodía, a hacer oración.
10Sintiendo hambre, quiso tomar alimento. Pero mientras se lo aderezaban, le sobrevino un éxtasis;
11y en él vio el cielo abierto, y bajar cierta cosa como un mantel grande, que pendiente de sus cuatro puntas se descolgaba del cielo a la tierra,
12en el cual había todo género de animales cuadrúpedos, y reptiles de la tierra, y aves del cielo.
13Y oyó una voz que le decía: Pedro, levántate, mata y come.
14Dijo Pedro: No haré tal, Señor, pues jamás he comido cosa profana e inmunda.
15Le replicó la misma voz: Lo que Dios ha purificado, no lo llames tú profano.
16Esto se repitió, por tres veces; y luego el mantel volvió a subirse al cielo.
17Mientras estaba Pedro discurriendo entre sí qué significaría la visión que acababa de tener, he aquí que los hombres que enviara Cornelio, preguntando por la casa de Simón, llegaron a la puerta.
18Y habiendo llamado, preguntaron si estaba hospedado allí Simón, por sobrenombre Pedro.
19Y mientras éste estaba ocupado en discurrir sobre la visión, le dijo el Espíritu: Mira, ahí están tres hombres que te buscan.
20Levántate luego, baja, y vete con ellos sin el menor reparo: porque yo soy el que los ha enviado.
21Habiendo, pues, Pedro bajado, e ido al encuentro de los mensajeros, les dijo: Vedme aquí: yo soy aquel a quien buscáis: ¿cuál es el motivo de vuestro viaje?
22Ellos le respondieron. El centurión Cornelio, varón justo y temeroso de Dios, estimado y tenido por tal de toda la nación de los judíos, recibió aviso de un santo ángel, para que te enviara llamar a su casa, y escuchase lo que tú le digas.
23Pedro entonces, haciéndolos entrar, los hospedó consigo. Al día siguiente partió con ellos, acompañándole también algunos de los hermanos de Jope.
24El día después entró en Cesarea. Cornelio, por su parte, convocados sus parientes y amigos más íntimos, los estaba esperando.
25Estando Pedro para entrar, le salió Cornelio a recibir, y postrándose a sus pies, le adoró.
26Mas Pedro le levantó, diciendo: Alzate, que yo no soy más que un hombre como tú.
27Y conversando con él entró en casa, donde halló reunidas muchas personas.
28Y les dijo: No ignoráis qué cosa tan abominable sea para un judío el trabar amistad o familiarizarse con un extranjero; pero Dios me ha enseñado a no tener a ningún hombre por impuro o manchado.
29Por lo cual, luego que he sido llamado he venido sin dificultad. Ahora os pregunto: ¿por qué motivo me habéis llamado?
30A lo que respondió Cornelio. Cuatro días hace hoy, que yo estaba orando en mi casa a las tres de la tarde, cuando he aquí que se me puso delante un personaje vestido de blanco, y me dijo:
31Cornelio, tu oración ha sido oída benignamente, y se ha hecho mención de tus limosnas en la presencia de Dios.
32Envía, pues, a Jope, y haz venir a Simón, por sobrenombre Pedro, el cual está hospedado en casa de Simón el curtidor, cerca del mar.
33Al punto, pues, envié por ti, y tú me has hecho la gracia de venir. Ahora, pues, todos nosotros estamos aquí en tu presencia, para escuchar cuanto el Señor te haya mandado decirnos.
34Entonces Pedro, dando principio a su discurso, habló de esta manera: Verdaderamente acabé de conocer que Dios no hace acepción de personas;
35sino que en cualquiera nación, el que le teme, y obra bien, merece su agrado.
36Lo cual ha hecho entender Dios a los hijos de Israel, anunciándoles la paz por Jesucristo (el cual es el Señor de todos).
37Vosotros sabéis lo que ha ocurrido en toda la Judea, habiendo principiado en Galilea, después que predicó Juan el bautismo ;
38la manera con que Dios ungió con el Espíritu Santo y su virtud a Jesús de Nazaret; el cual ha ido haciendo beneficios por todas partes por donde ha pasado, y ha curado a todos los que estaban bajo la opresión del demonio, porque Dios estaba con él.
39Y nosotros somos testigos de todas las cosas que hizo en el país de Judea y en Jerusalén , al cual no obstante quitaron la vida colgándole en una cruz.
40Pero Dios le resucitó al tercer día, y dispuso que se dejase ver,
41no de todo el pueblo, sino de los predestinados de Dios para testigos, de nosotros, que hemos comido y bebido con él, después que resucitó de entre los muertos.
42Y nos mandó que predicásemos y testificásemos al pueblo, que él es el que está por Dios constituido juez de vivos y de muertos.
43Del mismo testifican todos los profetas, que cualquiera que cree en él, recibe en virtud de su nombre la remisión de los pecados.
44Estando aún Pedro diciendo estas palabras, descendió el Espíritu Santo sobre todos los que oían la plática.
45Y los fieles, circuncidados, o judíos, que habían venido con Pedro, quedaron pasmados, al ver que la gracia del Espíritu Santo se derramaba también sobre los gentiles, o incircuncisos.
46Pues los oían hablar varias lenguas y publicar las grandezas de Dios.
47Entonces dijo Pedro: ¿Quién puede negar el agua del bautismo a los que como nosotros, han recibido también al Espíritu Santo?
48Así que mandó bautizarlos en Nombre y con el bautismo de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo; y le suplicaron que se detuviese con ellos algunos días, como lo hizo.

1Y HABÍA un varón en Cesarea llamado Cornelio, centurión de la compañía que se llamaba la Italiana,
2Pío y temeroso de Dios con toda su casa, y que hacía muchas limosnas al pueblo, y oraba á Dios siempre.
3Este vió en visión manifiestamente, como á la hora nona del día, que un ángel de Dios entraba á él, y le decía: Cornelio.
4Y él, puestos en él los ojos, espantado, dijo: ¿Qué es, Señor? Y díjole: Tus oraciones y tus limosnas han subido en memoria á la presencia de Dios.
5Envía pues ahora hombres á Joppe, y haz venir á un Simón, que tiene por sobrenombre Pedro.
6Este posa en casa de un Simón, curtidor, que tiene su casa junto á la mar: él te dirá lo que te conviene hacer.
7E ido el ángel que hablaba con Cornelio, llamó dos de sus criados, y un devoto soldado de los que le asistían;
8A los cuales, después de habérselo contado todo, los envió á Joppe.
9Y al día siguiente, yendo ellos su camino, y llegando cerca de la ciudad, Pedro subió á la azotea á orar, cerca de la hora de sexta;
10Y aconteció que le vino una grande hambre, y quiso comer; pero mientras disponían, sobrevínole un éxtasis;
11Y vió el cielo abierto, y que descendía un vaso, como un gran lienzo, que atado de los cuatro cabos era bajado á la tierra;
12En el cual había de todos los animales cuadrúpedos de la tierra, y reptiles, y aves del cielo.
13Y le vino una voz: Levántate, Pedro, mata y come.
14Entonces Pedro dijo: Señor, no; porque ninguna cosa común é inmunda he comido jamás.
15Y volvió la voz hacia él la segunda vez: Lo que Dios limpió, no lo llames tú común.
16Y esto fué hecho por tres veces; y el vaso volvió á ser recogido en el cielo.
17Y estando Pedro dudando dentro de sí qué sería la visión que había visto, he aquí, los hombres que habían sido enviados por Cornelio, que, preguntando por la casa de Simón, llegaron á la puerta.
18Y llamando, preguntaron si un Simón que tenía por sobrenombre Pedro, posaba allí.
19Y estando Pedro pensando en la visión, le dijo el Espíritu: He aquí, tres hombres te buscan.
20Levántate, pues, y desciende, y no dudes ir con ellos; porque yo los he enviado.
21Entonces Pedro, descendiendo á los hombres que eran enviados por Cornelio, dijo: He aquí, yo soy el que buscáis: ¿cuál es la causa por la que habéis venido?
22Y ellos dijeron: Cornelio, el centurión, varón justo y temeroso de Dios, y que tiene testimonio de toda la nación de los Judíos, ha recibido respuesta por un santo ángel, de hacerte venir á su casa, y oir de ti palabras.
23Entonces metiéndolos dentro, los hospedó. Y al día siguiente, levantándose, se fué con ellos; y le acompañaron algunos de los hermanos de Joppe.
24Y al otro día entraron en Cesarea. Y Cornelio los estaba esperando, habiendo llamado á sus parientes y los amigos más familiares.
25Y como Pedro entró, salió Cornelio á recibirle; y derribándose á sus pies, adoró.
26Mas Pedro le levantó, diciendo: Levántate; yo mismo también soy hombre.
27Y hablando con él, entró, y halló á muchos que se habían juntado.
28Y les dijo: Vosotros sabéis que es abominable á un varón Judío juntarse ó llegarse á extranjero; mas me ha mostrado Dios que á ningún hombre llame común ó inmundo;
29Por lo cual, llamado, he venido sin dudar. Así que pregunto: ¿por qué causa me habéis hecho venir?
30Entonces Cornelio dijo: Cuatro días ha que á esta hora yo estaba ayuno; y á la hora de nona estando orando en mi casa, he aquí, un varón se puso delante de mí en vestido resplandeciente.
31Y dijo: Cornelio, tu oración es oída, y tus limosnas han venido en memoria en la presencia de Dios.
32Envía pues á Joppe, y haz venir á un Simón, que tiene por sobrenombre Pedro; éste posa en casa de Simón, curtidor, junto á la mar; el cual venido, te hablará.
33Así que, luego envié á ti; y tú has hecho bien en venir. Ahora pues, todos nosotros estamos aquí en la presencia de Dios, para oir todo lo que Dios te ha mandado.
34Entonces Pedro, abriendo su boca, dijo: Por verdad hallo que Dios no hace acepción de personas;
35Sino que de cualquiera nación que le teme y obra justicia, se agrada.
36Envió palabra Dios á los hijos de Israel, anunciando la paz por Jesucristo; éste es el Señor de todos.
37Vosotros sabéis lo que fué divulgado por toda Judea; comenzando desde Galilea después del bautismo que Juan predicó,
38Cuanto á Jesús de Nazaret; cómo le ungió Dios de Espíritu Santo y de potencia; el cual anduvo haciendo bienes, y sanando á todos los oprimidos del diablo; porque Dios era con él.
39Y nosotros somos testigos de todas las cosas que hizo en la tierra de Judea, y en Jerusalem; al cual mataron colgándole en un madero.
40A éste levantó Dios al tercer día, é hizo que apareciese manifiesto,
41No á todo el pueblo, sino á los testigos que Dios antes había ordenado, es á saber, á nosotros que comimos y bebimos con él, después que resucitó de los muertos.
42Y nos mandó que predicásemos al pueblo, y testificásemos que él es el que Dios ha puesto por Juez de vivos y muertos.
43A éste dan testimonio todos los profetas, de que todos los que en él creyeren, recibirán perdón de pecados por su nombre.
44Estando aún hablando Pedro estas palabras, el Espíritu Santo cayó sobre todos los que oían el sermón.
45Y se espantaron los fieles que eran de la circuncisión, que habían venido con Pedro, de que también sobre los Gentiles se derramase el don del Espíritu Santo.
46Porque los oían que hablaban en lenguas, y que magnificaban á Dios.
47Entonces respondió Pedro: ¿Puede alguno impedir el agua, para que no sean bautizados éstos que han recibido el Espíritu Santo también como nosotros?
48Y les mandó bautizar en el nombre del Señor Jesús. Entonces le rogaron que se quedase por algunos días.

1There was a certain man in Cæsarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,
2A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.
3He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius.
4And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.
5And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter:
6He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.
7And when the angel which spake unto Cornelius was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually;
8And when he had declared all these things unto them, he sent them to Joppa.
9On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:
10And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,
11And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:
12Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
13And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
14But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
15And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
16This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.
17Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made enquiry for Simon’s house, and stood before the gate,
18And called, and asked whether Simon, which was surnamed Peter, were lodged there.
19While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee.
20Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.
21Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come?
22And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.
23Then called he them in, and lodged them. And on the morrow Peter went away with them, and certain brethren from Joppa accompanied him.
24And the morrow after they entered into Cæsarea. And Cornelius waited for them, and had called together his kinsmen and near friends.
25And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him.
26But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.
27And as he talked with him, he went in, and found many that were come together.
28And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.
29Therefore came I unto you without gainsaying, as soon as I was sent for: I ask therefore for what intent ye have sent for me?
30And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,
31And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.
32Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is lodged in the house of one Simon a tanner by the sea side: who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee.
33Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.
34Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
35But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
36The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)
37That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judæa, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;
38How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
39And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:
40Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly;
41Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.
42And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.
43To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
44While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
45And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
46For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
47Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
48And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

1Now there was a certain man in Caesarea, Cornelius by name, a centurion of what was called the Italian Regiment,
2a devout man, and one who feared God with all his house, who gave gifts for the needy generously to the people, and always prayed to God.
3At about the ninth hour of the day, he clearly saw in a vision an angel of God coming to him and saying to him, “Cornelius!”
4He, fastening his eyes on him and being frightened, said, “What is it, Lord?” He said to him, “Your prayers and your gifts to the needy have gone up for a memorial before God.
5Now send men to Joppa, and get Simon, who is also called Peter.
6He is staying with a tanner named Simon, whose house is by the seaside.
7When the angel who spoke to him had departed, Cornelius called two of his household servants and a devout soldier of those who waited on him continually.
8Having explained everything to them, he sent them to Joppa.
9Now on the next day as they were on their journey and got close to the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray at about noon.
10He became hungry and desired to eat, but while they were preparing, he fell into a trance.
11He saw heaven opened and a certain container descending to him, like a great sheet let down by four corners on the earth,
12in which were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild animals, reptiles, and birds of the sky.
13A voice came to him, “Rise, Peter, kill and eat!”
14But Peter said, “Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.”
15A voice came to him again the second time, “What God has cleansed, you must not call unclean.”
16This was done three times, and immediately the thing was received up into heaven.
17Now while Peter was very perplexed in himself what the vision which he had seen might mean, behold, the men who were sent by Cornelius, having made inquiry for Simon’s house, stood before the gate,
18and called and asked whether Simon, who was also called Peter, was lodging there.
19While Peter was pondering the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men seek you.
20But arise, get down, and go with them, doubting nothing; for I have sent them.”
21Peter went down to the men, and said, “Behold, I am he whom you seek. Why have you come?”
22They said, “Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous man and one who fears God, and well spoken of by all the nation of the Jews, was directed by a holy angel to invite you to his house, and to listen to what you say.”
23So he called them in and provided a place to stay. On the next day Peter arose and went out with them, and some of the brothers from Joppa accompanied him.
24On the next day they entered into Caesarea. Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his relatives and his near friends.
25When Peter entered, Cornelius met him, fell down at his feet, and worshiped him.
26But Peter raised him up, saying, “Stand up! I myself am also a man.”
27As he talked with him, he went in and found many gathered together.
28He said to them, “You yourselves know how it is an unlawful thing for a man who is a Jew to join himself or come to one of another nation, but God has shown me that I shouldn’t call any man unholy or unclean.
29Therefore I also came without complaint when I was sent for. I ask therefore, why did you send for me?”
30Cornelius said, “Four days ago, I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour, I prayed in my house, and behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing
31and said, ‘Cornelius, your prayer is heard, and your gifts to the needy are remembered in the sight of God.
32Send therefore to Joppa and summon Simon, who is also called Peter. He is staying in the house of a tanner named Simon, by the seaside. When he comes, he will speak to you.’
33Therefore I sent to you at once, and it was good of you to come. Now therefore we are all here present in the sight of God to hear all things that have been commanded you by God.”
34Peter opened his mouth and said, “Truly I perceive that God doesn’t show favoritism;
35but in every nation he who fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him.
36The word which he sent to the children of Israel, preaching good news of peace by Jesus Christ—he is Lord of all—
37you yourselves know what happened, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;
38how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.
39We are witnesses of everything he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem; whom they also killed, hanging him on a tree.
40God raised him up the third day and gave him to be revealed,
41not to all the people, but to witnesses who were chosen before by God, to us, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.
42He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that this is he who is appointed by God as the Judge of the living and the dead.
43All the prophets testify about him, that through his name everyone who believes in him will receive remission of sins.”
44While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all those who heard the word.
45They of the circumcision who believed were amazed, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was also poured out on the Gentiles.
46For they heard them speaking in other languages and magnifying God. Then Peter answered,
47“Can anyone forbid these people from being baptized with water? They have received the Holy Spirit just like us.”
48He commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to stay some days.
