And it came to pass after this, that David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah? And the LORD said unto him, Go up. And David said, Whither shall I go up? And he said, Unto Hebron.

David y monta donc avec ses deux femmes, Achinoam de Jizreel, et Abigaïl, femme de Nabal de Carmel.

Y envió David mensajeros á los de Jabes de Galaad, diciéndoles: Benditos seáis vosotros de Jehová, que habéis hecho esta misericordia con vuestro señor Saúl en haberle dado sepultura.

And Abner said to him, Turn thee aside to thy right hand or to thy left, and lay thee hold on one of the young men, and take thee his armour. But Asahel would not turn aside from following of him.

Abner dit encore à Asaël : « Détourne-toi de moi. Pourquoi te frapperais-je à terre ? Comment pourrais-je ensuite regarder ton frère Joab en face ? »
Y Abner tornó á decir á Asael: Apártate de en pos de mí, porque te heriré derribándote en tierra, y después ¿cómo levantaré mi rostro á tu hermano Joab?
And Abner said again to Asahel, Turn thee aside from following me: wherefore should I smite thee to the ground? how then should I hold up my face to Joab thy brother?
Abner said again to Asahel, “Turn away from following me. Why should I strike you to the ground? How then could I look Joab your brother in the face?”
Cependant, il refusa de se détourner. C'est pourquoi Abner le frappa au ventre avec le bout inférieur de sa lance, de sorte que la lance sortit par-derrière lui ; il tomba et mourut sur place. Et tous ceux qui arrivaient au lieu où Asaël était tombé mort, s'y arrêtaient.

Then Abner called to Joab, and said, Shall the sword devour for ever? knowest thou not that it will be bitterness in the latter end? how long shall it be then, ere thou bid the people return from following their brethren?

Joab répondit : « Aussi vrai que Dieu est vivant, si tu n'avais pas parlé, le peuple n'aurait certainement pas cessé la poursuite de ses frères avant le matin. »
Y Joab respondió: Vive Dios que si no hubieras hablado, ya desde esta mañana el pueblo hubiera dejado de seguir á sus hermanos.
And Joab said, As God liveth, unless thou hadst spoken, surely then in the morning the people had gone up every one from following his brother.
