1Então, Yahweh enviou Natã a Davi. Ele veio a Davi e disse: "Havia dois homens numa cidade. Um homem era rico e o outro pobre.
2O rico tinha grande número de rebanhos e manadas,
3mas o homem pobre não tinha nada, exceto uma pequena cordeirinha, a qual ele havia comprado, alimentado e criado. Ela cresceu junto com ele e seus filhos. A cordeira até comia com ele e bebia do seu próprio copo, e dormia em seus braços. Era como uma filha para ele.
4Um dia, o homem rico recebeu um visitante; porém, o homem rico não quis tomar de seus próprios rebanhos e manadas para lhe providenciar alimento. Ao invés disso, ele tomou a cordeirinha do homem pobre e a cozinhou para o seu visitante".
5Davi ficou cheio de raiva contra o homem rico, e se enfureceu diante de Natã: "Como vive Yahweh, o homem que fez isso merece ser condenado à morte.
6E pela cordeira ele deve restituir quatro vezes mais, por ter feito tal coisa e porque ele não teve piedade do homem pobre".
7Então, Natã disse a Davi: "Tu és esse homem! Yahweh, o Deus de Israel, diz: 'Eu o ungi rei sobre Israel, e Eu o resgatei da mão de Saul.
8Eu te dei a casa de teu senhor, e, em teus braços, dei as esposas de teu senhor. Eu também te dei a casa de Israel e Judá. Porém, se isso fosse pouco, Eu teria te dado muitas outras coisas.
9Por que, então, tens desprezado os comandos de Yahweh, para fazer o que é mau aos Seus olhos? Tu mataste Urias, o heteu, com a espada, e tomaste sua esposa para ser a tua própria esposa. Tu o mataste com a espada do exército de Amom.
10Então, agora, a espada nunca deixará a tua casa, porque tens Me desprezado, e tomaste a esposa de Urias, o heteu, como tua esposa'.
11Yahweh diz: 'Vê, Eu levantarei desastre contra ti dentro de tua própria casa. Diante dos teus próprios olhos, Eu tomarei tuas esposas e as darei ao teu vizinho, e ele dormirá com tuas esposas em plena luz do dia.
12Porque tu cometeste teu pecado secretamente, porém Eu farei isto diante de todo o Israel, à luz do dia'".
13Então, Davi disse a Natã: "Eu pequei contra Yahweh". Natã respondeu a Davi: "Yahweh também perdoou teu pecado. Tu não serás morto.
14Contudo, porque com a tua atitude desprezaste Yahweh, o filho que de ti nascer, certamente morrerá".
15Então, Natã saiu e foi para casa. Yahweh feriu o filho de Davi com a esposa de Urias, e ele ficou muito doente.
16Davi, então, implorou a Deus pelo menino. Davi jejuou, e entrou, e prostou-se no chão toda a noite.
17Os anciãos de sua casa se levantaram e se puseram do lado dele, para lhe fazer levantar do chão, porém ele não levantou, e nem comeu com eles.
18No sétimo dia, aconteceu que a criança morreu. Os servos de Davi estavam com medo de dizer-lhe que a criança havia morrido, pelo que eles disseram: "Vede, enquanto a criança ainda estava viva, nós falávamos com ele, e ele não ouvia a nossa voz. O que poderá ele fazer a si mesmo se dissermos que o menino está morto?".
19Mas, quando Davi viu que seus servos estavam sussurrando entre si, ele percebeu que a criança havia morrido. Ele disse a seus servos: "A criança está morta?". Eles responderam: "Ela está morta".
20Então, Davi se levantou do chão e lavou-se, ungiu-se e mudou as suas roupas. Ele foi ao tabernáculo de Yahweh e adorou ali, e depois voltou para o seu palácio. Quando ele pediu, colocaram o alimento diante dele e ele comeu.
21Então, seus servos lhe disseram: "Por que fizeste isso? Tu jejuaste e choraste pela criança enquanto ela estava viva, mas, quando a criança morreu, tu levantaste e comeste".
22Davi respondeu: "Enquanto a criança ainda estava viva, eu jejuei e orei. Eu disse: 'quem sabe se Yahweh será gracioso comigo, e a criança poderá viver?'.
23Mas, agora, ela está morta; por que devo jejuar? Posso eu trazê-la de volta? Eu irei até ela, porém ela não retornará a mim".
24Davi confortou Bate-Seba, sua esposa, foi até ela e dormiu com ela. E ela gerou um filho, e o menino foi chamado Salomão. Yahweh o amou,
25e Ele enviou sua palavra através de Natã, o profeta, para chamá-lo Jedidias, porque Yahweh o amou.
26Então, Joabe lutou contra Rabá, a cidade real do povo de Amom, e ele conquistou sua fortaleza.
27Joabe enviou mensageiros a Davi, e disse: "Eu lutei contra Rabá, e tomei as fontes de água da cidade.
28Portanto, junta o resto do exército e cerca a cidade e toma-a, porque se eu tomar a cidade, ela será chamada por meu nome".
29Então, Davi juntou todo o exército e foi a Rabá; ele lutou contra a cidade e a conquistou.
30Davi tomou a coroa da cabeça do rei; ela pesava um talento de ouro e nela havia uma pedra preciosa. A coroa foi colocada na cabeça de Davi. Então, ele trouxe grande quantidade de despojo para a cidade.
31Ele trouxe o povo que estava na cidade e forçou-os a trabalhar com serras, picaretas de ferro, e machados; ele os fez trabalhar também em fornos de tijolos. Davi cobrou de todas as cidades do povo de Amom que fizesse esse trabalho. Depois, Davi e todo o exército retornaram para Jerusalém.

1Y ENVIÓ Jehová á Nathán á David, el cual viniendo á él, díjole: Había dos hombres en una ciudad, el uno rico, y el otro pobre.
2El rico tenía numerosas ovejas y vacas:
3Mas el pobre no tenía más que una sola cordera, que él había comprado y criado, y que había crecido con él y con sus hijos juntamente, comiendo de su bocado, y bebiendo de su vaso, y durmiendo en su seno: y teníala como á una hija.
4Y vino uno de camino al hombre rico; y él no quiso tomar de sus ovejas y de sus vacas, para guisar al caminante que le había venido, sino que tomó la oveja de aquel hombre pobre, y aderezóla para aquél que le había venido.
5Entonces se encendió el furor de David en gran manera contra aquel hombre, y dijo á Nathán: Vive Jehová, que el que tal hizo es digno de muerte.
6Y que él debe pagar la cordera con cuatro tantos, porque hizo esta tal cosa, y no tuvo misericordia.
7Entonces dijo Nathán á David: Tú eres aquel hombre. Así ha dicho Jehová, Dios de Israel: Yo te ungí por rey sobre Israel, y te libré de la mano de Saúl;
8Yo te dí la casa de tu señor, y las mujeres de tu señor en tu seno: demás de esto te dí la casa de Israel y de Judá; y si esto es poco, yo te añadiré tales y tales cosas.
9¿Por qué pues tuviste en poco la palabra de Jehová, haciendo lo malo delante de sus ojos? A Uría Hetheo heriste á cuchillo, y tomaste por tu mujer á su mujer, y á él mataste con el cuchillo de los hijos de Ammón.
10Por lo cual ahora no se apartará jamás de tu casa la espada; por cuanto me menospreciaste, y tomaste la mujer de Uría Hetheo para que fuese tu mujer.
11Así ha dicho Jehová: He aquí yo levantaré sobre ti el mal de tu misma casa, y tomaré tus mujeres delante de tus ojos, y las daré á tu prójimo, el cual yacerá con tus mujeres á la vista de este sol.
12Porque tú lo hiciste en secreto; mas yo haré esto delante de todo Israel, y delante del sol.
13Entonces dijo David á Nathán: Pequé contra Jehová. Y Nathán dijo á David: También Jehová ha remitido tu pecado: no morirás.
14Mas por cuanto con este negocio hiciste blasfemar á los enemigos de Jehová, el hijo que te ha nacido morirá ciertamente.
15Y Nathán se volvió á su casa. Y Jehová hirió al niño que la mujer de Uría había parido á David, y enfermó gravemente.
16Entonces rogó David á Dios por el niño; y ayunó David, recogióse, y pasó la noche acostado en tierra.
17Y levantándose los ancianos de su casa fueron á él para hacerlo levantar de tierra; mas él no quiso, ni comió con ellos pan.
18Y al séptimo día murió el niño; pero sus siervos no osaban hacerle saber que el niño era muerto, diciendo entre sí: Cuando el niño aun vivía, le hablábamos, y no quería oir nuestra voz: ¿pues cuánto más mal le hará, si le dijéremos que el niño es muerto?
19Mas David viendo á sus siervos hablar entre sí, entendió que el niño era muerto; por lo que dijo David á sus siervos: ¿Es muerto el niño? Y ellos respondieron: Muerto es.
20Entonces David se levantó de tierra, y lavóse y ungióse, y mudó sus ropas, y entró á la casa de Jehová, y adoró. Y después vino á su casa, y demandó, y pusiéronle pan, y comió.
21Y dijéronle sus siervos: ¿Qué es esto que has hecho? Por el niño, viviendo aún, ayunabas y llorabas; y él muerto, levantástete y comiste pan.
22Y él respondió: Viviendo aún el niño, yo ayunaba y lloraba, diciendo: ¿Quién sabe si Dios tendrá compasión de mí, por manera que viva el niño?
23Mas ahora que ya es muerto, ¿para qué tengo de ayunar? ¿podré yo hacerle volver? Yo voy á él, mas él no volverá á mí.
24Y consoló David á Bath-sheba su mujer, y entrando á ella, durmió con ella; y parió un hijo, y llamó su nombre Salomón, al cual amó Jehová:
25Que envió por mano de Nathán profeta, y llamó su nombre Jedidiah, á causa de Jehová.
26Y Joab peleaba contra Rabba de los hijos de Ammón, y tomó la ciudad real.
27Entonces envió Joab mensajeros á David, diciendo: Yo he peleado contra Rabba, y he tomado la ciudad de las aguas.
28Junta pues ahora el pueblo que queda, y asienta campo contra la ciudad, y tómala; porque tomando yo la ciudad, no se llame de mi nombre.
29Y juntando David todo el pueblo, fué contra Rabba, y combatióla, y tomóla.
30Y tomó la corona de su rey de su cabeza, la cual pesaba un talento de oro, y tenía piedras preciosas; y fué puesta sobre la cabeza de David. Y trajo muy grande despojo de la ciudad.
31Sacó además el pueblo que estaba en ella, y púsolo debajo de sierras, y de trillos de hierro, y de hachas de hierro; é hízolos pasar por hornos de ladrillos: y lo mismo hizo á todas las ciudades de los hijos de Ammón. Volvióse luego David con todo el pueblo á Jerusalem.

1And the LORD sent Nathan unto David. And he came unto him, and said unto him, There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor.
2The rich man had exceeding many flocks and herds:
3But the poor man had nothing, save one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished up: and it grew up together with him, and with his children; it did eat of his own meat, and drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was unto him as a daughter.
4And there came a traveller unto the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man that was come unto him; but took the poor man’s lamb, and dressed it for the man that was come to him.
5And David’s anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, As the LORD liveth, the man that hath done this thing shall surely die:
6And he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity.
7And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul;
8And I gave thee thy master’s house, and thy master’s wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things.
9Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.
10Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife.
11Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.
12For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.
13And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die.
14Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die.
15And Nathan departed unto his house. And the LORD struck the child that Uriah’s wife bare unto David, and it was very sick.
16David therefore besought God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night upon the earth.
17And the elders of his house arose, and went to him, to raise him up from the earth: but he would not, neither did he eat bread with them.
18And it came to pass on the seventh day, that the child died. And the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead: for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spake unto him, and he would not hearken unto our voice: how will he then vex himself, if we tell him that the child is dead?
19But when David saw that his servants whispered, David perceived that the child was dead: therefore David said unto his servants, Is the child dead? And they said, He is dead.
20Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his apparel, and came into the house of the LORD, and worshipped: then he came to his own house; and when he required, they set bread before him, and he did eat.
21Then said his servants unto him, What thing is this that thou hast done? thou didst fast and weep for the child, while it was alive; but when the child was dead, thou didst rise and eat bread.
22And he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept: for I said, Who can tell whether GOD will be gracious to me, that the child may live?
23But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.
24And David comforted Bath-sheba his wife, and went in unto her, and lay with her: and she bare a son, and he called his name Solomon: and the LORD loved him.
25And he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet; and he called his name Jedidiah, because of the LORD.
26And Joab fought against Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and took the royal city.
27And Joab sent messengers to David, and said, I have fought against Rabbah, and have taken the city of waters.
28Now therefore gather the rest of the people together, and encamp against the city, and take it: lest I take the city, and it be called after my name.
29And David gathered all the people together, and went to Rabbah, and fought against it, and took it.
30And he took their king’s crown from off his head, the weight whereof was a talent of gold with the precious stones: and it was set on David’s head. And he brought forth the spoil of the city in great abundance.
31And he brought forth the people that were therein, and put them under saws, and under harrows of iron, and under axes of iron, and made them pass through the brickkiln: and thus did he unto all the cities of the children of Ammon. So David and all the people returned unto Jerusalem.

1The LORD sent Nathan to David. He came to him, and said to him, “There were two men in one city: the one rich, and the other poor.
2The rich man had very many flocks and herds,
3but the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and raised. It grew up together with him and with his children. It ate of his own food, drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was like a daughter to him.
4A traveler came to the rich man, and he didn’t want to take of his own flock and of his own herd to prepare for the wayfaring man who had come to him, but took the poor man’s lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him.”
5David’s anger burned hot against the man, and he said to Nathan, “As the LORD lives, the man who has done this deserves to die!
6He must restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing and because he had no pity!”
7Nathan said to David, “You are the man! This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul.
8I gave you your master’s house and your master’s wives into your bosom, and gave you the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that would have been too little, I would have added to you many more such things.
9Why have you despised the LORD’s word, to do that which is evil in his sight? You have struck Uriah the Hittite with the sword, have taken his wife to be your wife, and have slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.
10Now therefore the sword will never depart from your house, because you have despised me and have taken Uriah the Hittite’s wife to be your wife.’
11“This is what the LORD says: ‘Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house; and I will take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor, and he will lie with your wives in the sight of this sun.
12For you did this secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.’”
13David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the LORD.” Nathan said to David, “The LORD also has put away your sin. You will not die.
14However, because by this deed you have given great occasion to the LORD’s enemies to blaspheme, the child also who is born to you will surely die.”
15Then Nathan departed to his house. The LORD struck the child that Uriah’s wife bore to David, and he was very sick.
16David therefore begged God for the child; and David fasted, and went in and lay all night on the ground.
17The elders of his house arose beside him, to raise him up from the earth; but he would not, and he didn’t eat bread with them.
18On the seventh day, the child died. David’s servants were afraid to tell him that the child was dead, for they said, “Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spoke to him and he didn’t listen to our voice. How will he then harm himself if we tell him that the child is dead?”
19But when David saw that his servants were whispering together, David perceived that the child was dead; and David said to his servants, “Is the child dead?” They said, “He is dead.”
20Then David arose from the earth, and washed and anointed himself, and changed his clothing; and he came into the LORD’s house, and worshiped. Then he came to his own house; and when he requested, they set bread before him and he ate.
21Then his servants said to him, “What is this that you have done? You fasted and wept for the child while he was alive, but when the child was dead, you rose up and ate bread.”
22He said, “While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept; for I said, ‘Who knows whether the LORD will not be gracious to me, that the child may live?’
23But now he is dead. Why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me.”
24David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in to her, and lay with her. She bore a son, and he called his name Solomon. The LORD loved him;
25and he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet, and he named him Jedidiah, for the LORD’s sake.

30He took the crown of their king from off his head; and its weight was a talent of gold, and in it were precious stones; and it was set on David’s head. He brought a great quantity of plunder out of the city.
31He brought out the people who were in it, and put them to work under saws, under iron picks, under axes of iron, and made them go to the brick kiln; and he did so to all the cities of the children of Ammon. Then David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.
