1La douzième année d'Achaz, roi de Juda, Osée, fils d'Ela, commença à régner à Samarie sur Israël; son règne dura neuf ans.
2Il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux du Seigneur, mais moins que les rois d'Israël qui l'avaient précédé.
3C'est lui que vint attaquer Salmanassar, roi d'Assyrie; mais Osée fit sa soumission et paya tribut.
4Puis le roi d'Assyrie surprit un complot d'Osée: celui-ci, ayant envoyé des émissaires à So, roi d'Egypte, ne livrait plus au roi d'Assyrie le tribut annuel. Le roi d'Assyrie le fit enfermer et enchaîner dans une prison.
5Ensuite le roi d'Assyrie fit des expéditions dans tout le pays; il attaqua Samarie et en fit le siège pendant trois ans.
6La neuvième année du règne d'Osée, le roi d'Assyrie s'empara de Samarie et exila les Israélites en Assyrie; il les établit à Halah sur le Haber, fleuve du Gozân, et dans les villes de la Médie.
7C'est que les enfants d'Israël avaient péché contre l'Eternel, leur Dieu, qui les avait tirés du pays d'Egypte, les délivrant de la domination de Pharaon, roi d'Egypte. Ils avaient adoré des divinités étrangères,
8suivi les lois des nations que l'Eternel avait dépossédées au bénéfice des enfants d'Israël; et c'étaient les rois d'Israël qui en avaient été la cause.
9Les enfants d'Israël avaient commis en secret des actes illicites contre l'Eternel, leur Dieu; ils s'étaient bâti des hauts-lieux dans toutes leurs villes, depuis la tour des guetteurs jusqu'à la ville fortifiée;
10ils avaient dressé des statues et des Achêra sur toute colline élevée et sous tout arbre verdoyant.
11Là, sur tous les hauts-lieux, ils avaient offert de l'encens, à l'exemple des nations que Dieu avait chassées devant eux; ils avaient commis des actes coupables pour irriter l'Eternel.
12Ils avaient rendu un culte aux idoles, malgré l'ordre que l'Eternel leur avait donné de ne pas agir ainsi.
13Dieu, cependant, avait adressé des avertissements à Israël et à Juda par l'organe de tous ses prophètes et voyants, disant: "Renoncez à vos voies mauvaises, observez mes commandements et mes statuts, selon toute la loi que j'ai dictée à vos ancêtres et que je vous ai fait prêcher par mes serviteurs les prophètes."
14Mais ils n'avaient rien écouté et avaient raidi leur cou comme leurs pères, qui n'avaient pas foi en l'Eternel, leur Dieu.
15Ils avaient méprisé ses lois, l'alliance contractée avec leurs ancêtres et les avertissements qu'il leur avait donnés; ils avaient suivi les dieux de vanité et étaient devenus eux-mêmes vains, avaient imité les nations voisines que Dieu avait défendu d'imiter,
16avaient abandonné tous les commandements de l'Eternel, leur Dieu, s'étaient fabriqué des idoles de fonte, deux veaux , confectionné des images d'Astarté; ils s'étaient prosternés devant toute l'armée des cieux et avaient servi Baal.
17Ils avaient fait passer leurs fils et leurs filles par le feu, pratiqué la magie et la sorcellerie et, sans frein, s'étaient abandonnés à la pratique du mal aux yeux de l'Eternel, pour le courroucer.
18Dieu s'irrita fortement contre Israël et les repoussa de devant sa face: ils ne resta que la tribu de Juda.
19Juda même n'observa pas les commandements de l'Eternel, leur Dieu ils adoptèrent les mœurs des Israélites.
20Voilà pourquoi Dieu rejeta toute la race d'Israël, qu'il rendit malheureuse et livra au pouvoir des pillards; il alla même jusqu'à les chasser de devant lui.
21C'est qu'Israël avait déchiré le pacte qui l'unissait à la maison de David et pris pour roi Jéroboam, fils de Nebat. Celui-ci avait éloigné Israël de l'Eternel et lui avait fait commettre de grands péchés.
22Les Israélites avaient imité toutes les prévarications de Jéroboam, sans s'en écarter,
23au point que Dieu repoussa Israël de devant lui, suivant qu'if l'avait déclaré par l'organe de tous ses serviteurs les prophètes; il exila Israël de son pays en Assyrie, où ils sont encore aujourd'hui.
24Le roi d'Assyrie amena des gens de Babylone, de Ceuta, d'Ave, de Hamat et de Sefarvayim et les établit dans les villes de la Samarie pour remplacer les Israélites; ils prirent possession de la Samarie et habitèrent les villes.
25Or, au commencement de leur séjour, ils n'adoraient pas l'Eternel. Aussi Dieu lâcha-t-il contre eux des lions, qui exercèrent des ravages parmi eux.
26On dit alors au roi d'Assyrie: "Les nations que tu as transportées et établies dans les villes de la Samarie ne connaissent pas le culte du Dieu du pays. C'est pourquoi il a lancé contre eux des lions, qui les font périr à cause de l'ignorance où ils sont du culte à rendre au Dieu du pays."
27Le roi d'Assyrie édicta cet ordre: "Ramenez l'un des prêtres que vous avez exilés de ce pays; qu'il y retourne pour s'y établir et qu'il leur enseigne le culte du Dieu de ce pays."
28Un des prêtres exilés de Samarie vint s'établir à Béthel, et il leur enseigna comment ils devaient adorer l'Eternel.
29Mais chaque nation se confectionna ses divinités et les érigea dans les maisons des hauts-lieux édifiées par les Samaritains, chacune dans les villes qu'elle habitait.
30Les gens de Babel firent Souccot-Benot; ceux de Couth, Nergal; ceux de Hamat, Achima.
31Les Avites firent Nibhaz et Tartak; les Sefarvites brûlaient leurs enfants dans le feu en l'honneur d'Adrammélec et d'Anammélec, dieux de Sefarvayim.
32Ils adoraient l'Eternel, mais ils instituèrent des prêtres de hauts-lieux, choisis parmi eux, qui célébraient le culte dans la maison des hauts-lieux.
33Ils adoraient l'Eternel, tout en rendant un culte à leurs dieux, à l'exemple des nations qu'on avait exilées de ces contrées.
34Encore aujourd'hui, ils suivent ces premières habitudes; ils n'adorent pas Dieu et n'observent ni leurs lois et leurs statuts, ni la loi et le commandement dictés par l'Eternel aux enfants de Jacob, qu'il avait surnommé Israël.
35Dieu avait conclu avec ceux-ci une alliance et leur avait fait cette recommandation: "Ne vénérez pas de divinités étrangères, ne vous prosternez pas devant elles, ne les adorez point et ne leur offrez pas de sacrifices.
36C'est l'Eternel, qui vous a fait sortir du pays d'Egypte par sa grande force et sa puissance déployée, c'est lui seul que vous vénérerez, c'est devant lui que vous vous prosternerez et à lui que vous sacrifierez.
37Les statuts, les ordonnances, la loi et les commandements qu'il vous a donnés par écrit, vous aurez soin de les observer toujours et vous ne révérerez pas d'autres divinités.
38L'alliance que j'ai contractée avec vous, vous ne l'oublierez pas et vous n'adorerez pas de dieux étrangers.
39C'est l'Eternel, votre Dieu, lui seul que vous vénérerez, et il vous sauvera de la main de tous vos ennemis."
40Mais ils n'obéirent point, et ils suivirent leurs premiers errements.
41Ces peuples adorèrent donc l'Eternel tout en rendant un culte à leurs Idoles. Pareillement, leurs enfants et petits-enfants agissent comme leurs pères encore aujourd'hui.

1EN el año duodécimo de Achâz rey de Judá, comenzó á reinar Oseas hijo de Ela en Samaria sobre Israel; y reinó nueve años.
2E hizo lo malo en ojos de Jehová, aunque no como los reyes de Israel que antes de él habían sido.
3Contra éste subió Salmanasar rey de los Asirios; y Oseas fué hecho su siervo, y pagábale tributo.
4Mas el rey de Asiria halló que Oseas hacía conjuración: porque había enviado embajadores á So, rey de Egipto, y no pagaba tributo al rey de Asiria, como cada año: por lo que el rey de Asiria le detuvo, y le aprisionó en la casa de la cárcel.
5Y el rey de Asiria partió contra todo el país, y subió contra Samaria, y estuvo sobre ella tres años.
6En el año nueve de Oseas tomó el rey de Asiria á Samaria, y trasportó á Israel á Asiria, y púsolos en Hala, y en Habor, junto al río de Gozán, y en las ciudades de los Medos.
7Porque como los hijos de Israel pecasen contra Jehová su Dios, que los sacó de tierra de Egipto de bajo la mano de Faraón rey de Egipto, y temiesen á dioses ajenos,
8Y anduviesen en los estatutos de las gentes que Jehová había lanzado delante de los hijos de Israel, y en los de los reyes de Israel, que hicieron;
9Y como los hijos de Israel paliasen cosas no rectas contra Jehová su Dios, edificándose altos en todas sus ciudades, desde las torres de las atalayas hasta las ciudades fuertes,
10Y se levantasen estatuas y bosques en todo collado alto, y debajo de todo árbol umbroso,
11Y quemasen allí perfumes en todos los altos, á la manera de las gentes que había Jehová traspuesto delante de ellos, é hiciesen cosas muy malas para provocar á ira á Jehová,
12Pues servían á los ídolos, de los cuales Jehová les había dicho: Vosotros no habéis de hacer esto;
13Jehová protestaba entonces contra Israel y contra Judá, por mano de todos los profetas, y de todos los videntes, diciendo: Volveos de vuestros malos caminos, y guardad mis mandamientos y mis ordenanzas, conforme á todas las leyes que yo prescribí á vuestros padres, y que os he enviado por mano de mis siervos los profetas.
14Mas ellos no obedecieron, antes endurecieron su cerviz, como la cerviz de sus padres, los cuales no creyeron en Jehová su Dios.
15Y desecharon sus estatutos, y su pacto que él había concertado con sus padres, y sus testimonios que él había protestado contra ellos; y siguieron la vanidad, y se hicieron vanos, y fueron en pos de las gentes que estaban alrededor de ellos, de las cuales les había Jehová mandado que no hiciesen á la manera de ellas:
16Y dejaron todos los mandamientos de Jehová su Dios, é hiciéronse vaciadizos dos becerros, y también bosques, y adoraron á todo el ejército del cielo, y sirvieron á Baal:
17E hicieron pasar á sus hijos y á sus hijas por fuego; y diéronse á adivinaciones y agüeros, y entregáronse á hacer lo malo en ojos de Jehová, provocándole á ira.
18Jehová por tanto se airó en gran manera contra Israel, y quitólos de delante de su rostro; que no quedó sino sólo la tribu de Judá.
19Mas ni aun Judá guardó los mandamientos de Jehová su Dios; antes anduvieron en los estatutos de Israel, los cuales habían ellos hecho.
20Y desechó Jehová toda la simiente de Israel, y afligiólos, y entrególos en manos de saqueadores, hasta echarlos de su presencia.
21Porque cortó á Israel de la casa de David, y ellos se hicieron rey á Jeroboam hijo de Nabat; y Jeroboam rempujó á Israel de en pos de Jehová, é hízoles cometer gran pecado.
22Y los hijos de Israel anduvieron en todos los pecados de Jeroboam que él hizo, sin apartarse de ellos;
23Hasta tanto que Jehová quitó á Israel de delante de su rostro, como lo había él dicho por mano de todos los profetas sus siervos: é Israel fué trasportado de su tierra á Asiria, hasta hoy.
24Y trajo el rey de Asiria gente de Babilonia, y de Cutha, y de Ava, y de Hamath, y de Sepharvaim, y púsolos en las ciudades de Samaria, en lugar de los hijos de Israel; y poseyeron á Samaria, y habitaron en sus ciudades.
25Y aconteció al principio, cuando comenzaron á habitar allí, que no temiendo ellos á Jehová, envió Jehová contra ellos leones que los mataban.
26Entonces dijeron ellos al rey de Asiria: Las gentes que tú traspasaste y pusiste en las ciudades de Samaria, no saben la costumbre del Dios de aquella tierra, y él ha echado leones en ellos, y he aquí los matan, porque no saben la costumbre del Dios de la tierra.
27Y el rey de Asiria mandó, diciendo: Llevad allí á alguno de los sacerdotes que trajisteis de allá, y vayan y habiten allí, y enséñenles la costumbre del Dios del país.
28Y vino uno de los sacerdotes que habían trasportado de Samaria, y habitó en Beth-el, y enseñóles cómo habían de temer á Jehová.
29Mas cada nación se hizo sus dioses, y pusiéronlos en los templos de los altos que habían hecho los de Samaria; cada nación en su ciudad donde habitaba.
30Los de Babilonia hicieron á Succoth-benoth, y los de Cutha hicieron á Nergal, y los de Hamath hicieron á Asima;
31Los Heveos hicieron á Nibhaz y á Tharthac; y los de Sepharvaim quemaban sus hijos al fuego á Adra-melech y á Anamelech, dioses de Sepharvaim.
32Y temían á Jehová; é hicieron del pueblo bajo sacerdotes de los altos, quienes sacrificaban para ellos en los templos de los altos.
33Temían á Jehová, y honraban á sus dioses, según la costumbre de las gentes de donde habían sido trasladados.
34Hasta hoy hacen como primero; que ni temen á Jehová, ni guardan sus estatutos, ni sus ordenanzas, ni hacen según la ley y los mandamientos que prescribió Jehová á los hijos de Jacob, al cual puso el nombre de Israel;
35Con los cuales había Jehová hecho pacto, y les mandó, diciendo: No temeréis á otros dioses, ni los adoraréis, ni les serviréis, ni les sacrificaréis:
36Mas á Jehová, que os sacó de tierra de Egipto con grande poder y brazo extendido, á éste temeréis, y á éste adoraréis, y á éste haréis sacrificio.
37Los estatutos y derechos y ley y mandamientos que os dió por escrito, cuidaréis siempre de ponerlos por obra, y no temeréis dioses ajenos.
38Y no olvidaréis el pacto que hice con vosotros; ni temeréis dioses ajenos:
39Mas temed á Jehová vuestro Dios, y él os librará de mano de todos vuestros enemigos.
40Empero ellos no escucharon; antes hicieron según su costumbre antigua.
41Así temieron á Jehová aquellas gentes, y juntamente sirvieron á sus ídolos: y también sus hijos y sus nietos, según que hicieron sus padres, así hacen hasta hoy.

1In the twelfth year of Ahaz king of Judah began Hoshea the son of Elah to reign in Samaria over Israel nine years.
2And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, but not as the kings of Israel that were before him.
3Against him came up Shalmaneser king of Assyria; and Hoshea became his servant, and gave him presents.
4And the king of Assyria found conspiracy in Hoshea: for he had sent messengers to So king of Egypt, and brought no present to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year: therefore the king of Assyria shut him up, and bound him in prison.
5Then the king of Assyria came up throughout all the land, and went up to Samaria, and besieged it three years.
6In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria took Samaria, and carried Israel away into Assyria, and placed them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.
7For so it was, that the children of Israel had sinned against the LORD their God, which had brought them up out of the land of Egypt, from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods,
8And walked in the statutes of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out from before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they had made.
9And the children of Israel did secretly those things that were not right against the LORD their God, and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.

11And there they burnt incense in all the high places, as did the heathen whom the LORD carried away before them; and wrought wicked things to provoke the LORD to anger:
12For they served idols, whereof the LORD had said unto them, Ye shall not do this thing.
13Yet the LORD testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.
14Notwithstanding they would not hear, but hardened their necks, like to the neck of their fathers, that did not believe in the LORD their God.
15And they rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified against them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and went after the heathen that were round about them, concerning whom the LORD had charged them, that they should not do like them.
16And they left all the commandments of the LORD their God, and made them molten images, even two calves, and made a grove, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served Baal.
17And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.
18Therefore the LORD was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight: there was none left but the tribe of Judah only.
19Also Judah kept not the commandments of the LORD their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they made.
20And the LORD rejected all the seed of Israel, and afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his sight.
21For he rent Israel from the house of David; and they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king: and Jeroboam drave Israel from following the LORD, and made them sin a great sin.
22For the children of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did; they departed not from them;
23Until the LORD removed Israel out of his sight, as he had said by all his servants the prophets. So was Israel carried away out of their own land to Assyria unto this day.
24And the king of Assyria brought men from Babylon, and from Cuthah, and from Ava, and from Hamath, and from Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel: and they possessed Samaria, and dwelt in the cities thereof.
25And so it was at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they feared not the LORD: therefore the LORD sent lions among them, which slew some of them.
26Wherefore they spake to the king of Assyria, saying, The nations which thou hast removed, and placed in the cities of Samaria, know not the manner of the God of the land: therefore he hath sent lions among them, and, behold, they slay them, because they know not the manner of the God of the land.
27Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, Carry thither one of the priests whom ye brought from thence; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the manner of the God of the land.
28Then one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and dwelt in Beth-el, and taught them how they should fear the LORD.
29Howbeit every nation made gods of their own, and put them in the houses of the high places which the Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities wherein they dwelt.
30And the men of Babylon made Succoth-benoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima,
31And the Avites made Nibhaz and Tartak, and the Sepharvites burnt their children in fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim.
32So they feared the LORD, and made unto themselves of the lowest of them priests of the high places, which sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places.
33They feared the LORD, and served their own gods, after the manner of the nations whom they carried away from thence.
34Unto this day they do after the former manners: they fear not the LORD, neither do they after their statutes, or after their ordinances, or after the law and commandment which the LORD commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel;
35With whom the LORD had made a covenant, and charged them, saying, Ye shall not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them:
36But the LORD, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power and a stretched out arm, him shall ye fear, and him shall ye worship, and to him shall ye do sacrifice.
37And the statutes, and the ordinances, and the law, and the commandment, which he wrote for you, ye shall observe to do for evermore; and ye shall not fear other gods.
38And the covenant that I have made with you ye shall not forget; neither shall ye fear other gods.
39But the LORD your God ye shall fear; and he shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies.
40Howbeit they did not hearken, but they did after their former manner.
41So these nations feared the LORD, and served their graven images, both their children, and their children’s children: as did their fathers, so do they unto this day.

1In the twelfth year of Ahaz king of Judah, Hoshea the son of Elah began to reign in Samaria over Israel for nine years.

27Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, “Carry there one of the priests whom you brought from there; and let him go and dwell there, and let him teach them the law of the god of the land.”
28So one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and lived in Bethel, and taught them how they should fear the LORD.
29However every nation made gods of their own, and put them in the houses of the high places which the Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities in which they lived.
30The men of Babylon made Succoth Benoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima,
31and the Avvites made Nibhaz and Tartak; and the Sepharvites burned their children in the fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim.
32So they feared the LORD, and also made from among themselves priests of the high places for themselves, who sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places.
33They feared the LORD, and also served their own gods, after the ways of the nations from among whom they had been carried away.
34To this day they do what they did before. They don’t fear the LORD, and they do not follow the statutes, or the ordinances, or the law, or the commandment which the LORD commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel;
35with whom the LORD had made a covenant and commanded them, saying, “You shall not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them;
36but you shall fear the LORD, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power and with an outstretched arm, and you shall bow yourselves to him, and you shall sacrifice to him.
37The statutes and the ordinances, and the law and the commandment which he wrote for you, you shall observe to do forever more. You shall not fear other gods.
38You shall not forget the covenant that I have made with you. You shall not fear other gods.
39But you shall fear the LORD your God, and he will deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies.”
40However they didn’t listen, but they did what they did before.
41So these nations feared the LORD, and also served their engraved images. Their children did likewise, and so did their children’s children. They do as their fathers did to this day.
