1Aber ihre Kinder tötete er nicht. Denn also stehet es geschrieben im Gesetz, im Buch Moses, da der HERR gebeut und spricht: Die Väter sollen nicht sterben für die Kinder, noch die Kinder für die Väter, sondern ein jeglicher, soll um seiner Sünde willen sterben.
2Und Amazia brachte zuhauf Juda und stellete sie nach der Väter Häusern, nach den Obersten über tausend und über hundert, unter ganz Juda und Benjamin; und zählete sie von zwanzig Jahren und drüber und fand ihrer dreihunderttausend auserlesen, die ins Heer ziehen mochten und Spieß und Schild führen konnten.
3Dazu nahm er an aus Israel hunderttausend starke Kriegsleute um hundert Zentner Silbers.
4Es kam aber ein Mann Gottes zu ihm und sprach: König, laß nicht das Heer Israels mit dir kommen; denn der HERR ist nicht mit Israel noch mit allen Kindern Ephraim.
5Denn so du kommst, daß du eine Kühnheit beweisest im Streit, wird Gott dich fallen lassen, vor deinen Feinden. Denn bei Gott stehet die Kraft, zu helfen und fallen zu lassen.
6Amazia sprach zu dem Mann Gottes. Was soll man denn tun mit den hundert Zentnern, die ich den Kriegsknechten von Israel gegeben habe? Der Mann Gottes sprach: Der HERR hat noch mehr, denn des ist, das er dir geben kann.
7Da sonderte Amazia die Kriegsknechte ab, die zu ihm aus Ephraim kommen waren, daß sie an ihren Ort hingingen. Da ergrimmete ihr Zorn wider Juda sehr, und zogen wieder an ihren Ort mit grimmigem Zorn.
8Und ward getrost und führete sein Volk aus und zog aus ins Salztal und schlug der Kinder von Seir zehntausend.
9Und die Kinder Juda fingen ihrer zehntausend lebendig; die führeten sie auf die Spitze eines Felsen und stürzten sie von der Spitze des Felsen, daß sie alle zerborsten.
10Aber die Kriegsknechte, die Amazia hatte wiederum lassen ziehen, daß sie nicht mit seinem Volk zum Streit zögen, taten sich nieder in den Städten Judas, von Samaria an bis gen Beth-Horon, und schlugen ihrer dreitausend und nahmen viel Raubes.
11Und da Amazia wiederkam von der Edomiter Schlacht, brachte er die Götter der Kinder von Seir und stellete sie ihm zu Göttern; und betete an vor ihnen und räucherte ihnen.
12Da ergrimmete der Zorn des HERRN über Amazia und sandte einen Propheten zu ihm, der sprach zu ihm: Warum suchest du die Götter des Volks, die ihr Volk nicht konnten erretten von deiner Hand?
13Und da er mit ihm redete, sprach er zu ihm: Hat man dich zu des Königs Rat gemacht? Höre auf, warum willst du geschlagen sein? Da hörete der Prophet auf und sprach: Ich merke wohl, daß Gott sich beraten hat, dich zu verderben, daß du solches getan hast und gehorchest meinem Rat nicht.
14Und Amazia, der König Judas, ward Rats und sandte hin zu Joas, dem Sohn Joahas, des Sohns Jehus, dem Könige Israels, und ließ ihm sagen: Komm, laß uns miteinander besehen.
15Aber Joas, der König Israels, sandte zu Amazia, dem Könige Judas, und ließ ihm sagen: Der Dornstrauch im Libanon sandte zu der Zeder im Libanon und ließ ihr sagen: Gib deine Tochter meinem Sohn zum Weibe; aber das Wild im Libanon lief über den Dornstrauch und zertrat ihn.
16Du gedenkest: Siehe, ich habe die Edomiter geschlagen; des erhebet sich dein Herz und suchest Ruhm. Nun bleibe daheim! Warum ringest du nach Unglück, daß du fallest und Juda mit dir?
17Aber Amazia gehorchte nicht; denn es geschah von Gott, daß sie gegeben würden in die Hand, darum daß sie die Götter der Edomiter gesucht hatten.
18Da zog Joas, der König Israels, herauf, und besahen sich miteinander, er und Amazia, der König Judas, zu Beth-Semes, die in Juda liegt.
19Aber Juda ward geschlagen vor Israel, und flohen ein jeglicher in seine Hütte.
20Aber Amazia, den König Judas, den Sohn Joas, griff Joas, der Sohn Joahas, der König Israels, zu Beth-Semes und brachte ihn gen Jerusalem und riß ein die Mauern zu Jerusalem vom Tor Ephraim an bis an das Ecktor, vierhundert Ellen lang.
21Und alles Gold und Silber und alle Gefäße, die vorhanden waren im Hause Gottes bei Obed-Edom und in dem Schatz im Hause des Königs, und die Kinder zu Pfande nahm er mit sich gen Samaria.
22Und Amazia, der Sohn Joas, der König Judas, lebte nach dem Tode Joas, des Sohns Joahas, des Königs Israels, fünfzehn Jahre.
23Was aber mehr von Amazia zu sagen ist, beide das Erste und das Letzte, siehe, das ist geschrieben im Buch der Könige Judas und Israels.
24Und von der Zeit an, da Amazia von dem HERRN abwich, machten sie einen Bund wider ihn zu Jerusalem; er aber floh gen Lachis. Da sandten sie ihm nach gen Lachis und töteten ihn daselbst.
25Und sie brachten ihn auf Rossen und begruben ihn bei seinen Vätern in der Stadt Judas.
26Da nahm das ganze Volk Juda Usia, der war sechzehn Jahre alt, und machten ihn zum Könige an seines Vaters Amazia Statt.
27Derselbe bauete Eloth und brachte sie wieder an Juda, nachdem der König entschlafen war mit seinen Vätern.
28Sechzehn Jahre alt war Usia, da er König ward, und regierete zweiundfünfzig Jahre zu Jerusalem. Seine Mutter hieß Jechalja von Jerusalem.

1DE VEINTICINCO años era Amasías cuando comenzó á reinar, y veintinueve años reinó en Jerusalem: el nombre de su madre fué Joaddan, de Jerusalem.
2Hizo él lo recto en los ojos de Jehová aunque no de perfecto corazón.
3Y luego que fué confirmado en el reino, mató á sus siervos que habían muerto al rey su padre;
4Mas no mató á los hijos de ellos, según lo que está escrito en la ley en el libro de Moisés, donde Jehová mandó, diciendo: No morirán los padres por los hijos, ni los hijos por los padres; mas cada uno morirá por su pecado.
5Juntó luego Amasías á Judá, y con arreglo á las familias púsoles tribunos y centuriones por todo Judá y Benjamín; y tomólos por lista de veinte años arriba, y fueron hallados en ellos trescientos mil escogidos para salir á la guerra, que tenían lanza y escudo.
6Y de Israel tomó á sueldo cien mil hombres valientes, por cien talentos de plata.
7Mas un varón de Dios vino á él, diciéndole: Rey, no vaya contigo el ejército de Israel; porque Jehová no es con Israel, ni con todos los hijos de Ephraim.
8Pero si tú vas, si lo haces, y te esfuerzas para pelear, Dios te hará caer delante de los enemigos; porque en Dios está la fortaleza, ó para ayudar, ó para derribar.
9Y Amasías dijo al varón de Dios: ¿Qué pues se hará de cien talentos que he dado al ejército de Israel? Y el varón de Dios respondió: De Jehová es darte mucho más que esto.
10Entonces Amasías apartó el escuadrón de la gente que había venido á él de Ephraim, para que se fuesen á sus casas: y ellos se enojaron grandemente contra Judá, y volviéronse á sus casas encolerizados.
11Esforzándose entonces Amasías, sacó su pueblo, y vino al valle de la Sal: é hirió de los hijos de Seir diez mil.
12Y los hijos de Judá tomaron vivos otros diez mil, los cuales llevaron á la cumbre de un peñasco, y de allí los despeñaron, y todos se hicieron pedazos.
13Empero los del escuadrón que Amasías había despedido, porque no fuesen con él á la guerra, derramáronse sobre las ciudades de Judá, desde Samaria hasta Beth-oron, é hirieron de ellos tres mil, y tomaron un grande despojo.
14Regresando luego Amasías de la matanza de los Idumeos, trajo también consigo los dioses de los hijos de Seir, y púsoselos para sí por dioses, y encorvóse delante de ellos, y quemóles perfumes.
15Encendióse por tanto el furor de Jehová contra Amasías, y envió á él un profeta, que le dijo: ¿Por qué has buscado los dioses de gente, que no libraron á su pueblo de tus manos?
16Y hablándole el profeta estas cosas, él le respondió: ¿Hante puesto á ti por consejero del rey? Déjate de eso: ¿por qué quieres que te maten? Y al cesar, el profeta dijo luego: Yo sé que Dios ha acordado destruirte, porque has hecho esto, y no obedeciste á mi consejo.
17Y Amasías rey de Judá, habido su consejo, envió á decir á Joas, hijo de Joachâz hijo de Jehú, rey de Israel: Ven, y veámonos cara á cara.
18Entonces Joas rey de Israel envió á decir á Amasías rey de Judá: El cardo que estaba en el Líbano, envió al cedro que estaba en el Líbano, diciendo: Da tu hija á mi hijo por mujer. Y he aquí que las bestias fieras que estaban en el Líbano, pasaron, y hollaron el cardo.
19Tú dices: He aquí he herido á Edom; y tu corazón se enaltece para gloriarte: ahora estáte en tu casa; ¿para qué te entrometes en mal, para caer tú y Judá contigo?
20Mas Amasías no quiso oir; porque estaba de Dios, que los quería entregar en manos de sus enemigos, por cuanto habían buscado los dioses de Edom.
21Subió pues Joas rey de Israel, y viéronse cara á cara él y Amasías rey de Judá, en Beth-semes, la cual es de Judá.
22Pero cayó Judá delante de Israel, y huyó cada uno á su estancia.
23Y Joas rey de Israel prendió en Beth-semes á Amasías rey de Judá, hijo de Joas hijo de Joachâz, y llevólo á Jerusalem: y derribó el muro de Jerusalem desde la puerta de Ephraim hasta la puerta del ángulo, cuatrocientos codos.
24Asimismo tomó todo el oro y plata, y todos los vasos que se hallaron en la casa de Dios en casa de Obed-edom, y los tesoros de la casa del rey, y los hijos de los príncipes, y volvióse á Samaria.
25Y vivió Amasías hijo de Joas, rey de Judá, quince años después de la muerte de Joas hijo de Joachâz rey de Israel.
26Lo demás de los hechos de Amasías, primeros y postreros, ¿no está escrito en el libro de los reyes de Judá y de Israel?
27Desde aquel tiempo que Amasías se apartó de Jehová, maquinaron contra él conjuración en Jerusalem; y habiendo él huído á Lachîs, enviaron tras él á Lachîs, y allá lo mataron;
28Y trajéronlo en caballos, y sepultáronlo con sus padres en la ciudad de Judá.

1Amaziah was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.
2And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, but not with a perfect heart.
3Now it came to pass, when the kingdom was established to him, that he slew his servants that had killed the king his father.
4But he slew not their children, but did as it is written in the law in the book of Moses, where the LORD commanded, saying, The fathers shall not die for the children, neither shall the children die for the fathers, but every man shall die for his own sin.
5Moreover Amaziah gathered Judah together, and made them captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, according to the houses of their fathers, throughout all Judah and Benjamin: and he numbered them from twenty years old and above, and found them three hundred thousand choice men, able to go forth to war, that could handle spear and shield.
6He hired also an hundred thousand mighty men of valour out of Israel for an hundred talents of silver.
7But there came a man of God to him, saying, O king, let not the army of Israel go with thee; for the LORD is not with Israel, to wit, with all the children of Ephraim.
8But if thou wilt go, do it, be strong for the battle: God shall make thee fall before the enemy: for God hath power to help, and to cast down.
9And Amaziah said to the man of God, But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel? And the man of God answered, The LORD is able to give thee much more than this.
10Then Amaziah separated them, to wit, the army that was come to him out of Ephraim, to go home again: wherefore their anger was greatly kindled against Judah, and they returned home in great anger.
11And Amaziah strengthened himself, and led forth his people, and went to the valley of salt, and smote of the children of Seir ten thousand.
12And other ten thousand left alive did the children of Judah carry away captive, and brought them unto the top of the rock, and cast them down from the top of the rock, that they all were broken in pieces.
13But the soldiers of the army which Amaziah sent back, that they should not go with him to battle, fell upon the cities of Judah, from Samaria even unto Beth-horon, and smote three thousand of them, and took much spoil.
14Now it came to pass, after that Amaziah was come from the slaughter of the Edomites, that he brought the gods of the children of Seir, and set them up to be his gods, and bowed down himself before them, and burned incense unto them.
15Wherefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against Amaziah, and he sent unto him a prophet, which said unto him, Why hast thou sought after the gods of the people, which could not deliver their own people out of thine hand?
16And it came to pass, as he talked with him, that the king said unto him, Art thou made of the king’s counsel? forbear; why shouldest thou be smitten? Then the prophet forbare, and said, I know that God hath determined to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not hearkened unto my counsel.
17Then Amaziah king of Judah took advice, and sent to Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us see one another in the face.
18And Joash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon, and trode down the thistle.
19Thou sayest, Lo, thou hast smitten the Edomites; and thine heart lifteth thee up to boast: abide now at home; why shouldest thou meddle to thine hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?
20But Amaziah would not hear; for it came of God, that he might deliver them into the hand of their enemies, because they sought after the gods of Edom.
21So Joash the king of Israel went up; and they saw one another in the face, both he and Amaziah king of Judah, at Beth-shemesh, which belongeth to Judah.
22And Judah was put to the worse before Israel, and they fled every man to his tent.
23And Joash the king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, at Beth-shemesh, and brought him to Jerusalem, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, four hundred cubits.
24And he took all the gold and the silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of God with Obed-edom, and the treasures of the king’s house, the hostages also, and returned to Samaria.
25And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Joash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.
26Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, first and last, behold, are they not written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel?
27Now after the time that Amaziah did turn away from following the LORD they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem; and he fled to Lachish: but they sent to Lachish after him, and slew him there.
28And they brought him upon horses, and buried him with his fathers in the city of Judah.

5Moreover Amaziah gathered Judah together and ordered them according to their fathers’ houses, under captains of thousands and captains of hundreds, even all Judah and Benjamin. He counted them from twenty years old and upward, and found that there were three hundred thousand chosen men, able to go out to war, who could handle spear and shield.
6He also hired one hundred thousand mighty men of valor out of Israel for one hundred talents of silver.
7A man of God came to him, saying, “O king, don’t let the army of Israel go with you, for the LORD is not with Israel, with all the children of Ephraim.
8But if you will go, take action, and be strong for the battle. God will overthrow you before the enemy; for God has power to help, and to overthrow.”
9Amaziah said to the man of God, “But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel?” The man of God answered, “The LORD is able to give you much more than this.”
10Then Amaziah separated them, the army that had come to him out of Ephraim, to go home again. Therefore their anger was greatly kindled against Judah, and they returned home in fierce anger.
11Amaziah took courage, and led his people out and went to the Valley of Salt, and struck ten thousand of the children of Seir.
12The children of Judah carried away ten thousand alive, and brought them to the top of the rock, and threw them down from the top of the rock, so that they all were broken in pieces.
13But the men of the army whom Amaziah sent back, that they should not go with him to battle, fell on the cities of Judah from Samaria even to Beth Horon, and struck of them three thousand, and took much plunder.
14Now after Amaziah had come from the slaughter of the Edomites, he brought the gods of the children of Seir, and set them up to be his gods, and bowed down himself before them and burned incense to them.
15Therefore the LORD’s anger burned against Amaziah, and he sent to him a prophet who said to him, “Why have you sought after the gods of the people, which have not delivered their own people out of your hand?”
16As he talked with him, the king said to him, “Have we made you one of the king’s counselors? Stop! Why should you be struck down?” Then the prophet stopped, and said, “I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this and have not listened to my counsel.”
17Then Amaziah king of Judah consulted his advisers, and sent to Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, “Come! Let’s look one another in the face.”
18Joash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, “The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, ‘Give your daughter to my son as his wife. Then a wild animal that was in Lebanon passed by and trampled down the thistle.
19You say to yourself that you have struck Edom; and your heart lifts you up to boast. Now stay at home. Why should you meddle with trouble, that you should fall, even you and Judah with you?’”
20But Amaziah would not listen; for it was of God, that he might deliver them into the hand of their enemies, because they had sought after the gods of Edom.
21So Joash king of Israel went up, and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth Shemesh, which belongs to Judah.
22Judah was defeated by Israel; so every man fled to his tent.
23Joash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash the son of Jehoahaz, at Beth Shemesh and brought him to Jerusalem, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, four hundred cubits.
