Nova Bíblia Viva
1Joás tinha sete anos de idade quando se tornou rei, e reinou quarenta anos em Jerusalém. O nome de sua mãe era Zíbia, e era de Berseba.
2Joás fez o que era bom aos olhos do Senhor, enquanto o sacerdote Joiada estava vivo.
3Joiada escolheu duas esposas para o rei, e ele teve filhos e filhas.
4Algum tempo depois, Joás decidiu fazer reparos no templo do Senhor.
5Ele reuniu os sacerdotes e os levitas, dando as seguintes instruções: “Vão a todas as cidades de Judá e recolham o imposto anual para a construção, de maneira que possamos fazer reformas no templo de seu Deus. Saiam imediatamente!” Porém, os levitas não se apressaram.
6Então o rei mandou chamar Joiada, o sumo sacerdote, e lhe perguntou: “Por que você não exigiu que os levitas saíssem e trouxessem os impostos que as cidades de Judá e a cidade de Jerusalém devem pagar para a casa do Senhor? A lei do imposto decretada por Moisés, servo do Senhor, deve ser cumprida, para que o templo possa ser reformado”.
7Os seguidores da perversa Atalia e seus filhos tinham arruinado a casa de Deus, e tudo quanto era dedicado ao culto de Deus tinha sido levado para o templo dos ídolos do deus Baal.
8Por isso o rei deu ordens para que fosse feito um cofre e colocado do lado de fora da porta do templo do Senhor.
9Então foi mandada uma mensagem a todas as cidades de Judá, e por toda a cidade de Jerusalém, dizendo ao povo que trouxesse ao Senhor o imposto que Moisés, servo de Deus, havia determinado a Israel no deserto.
10E todos os líderes e o povo trouxeram com alegria as suas contribuições e as colocaram no cofre até enchê-lo.
11Os levitas levaram o cofre para os funcionários do rei, onde o secretário dos registros e o representante do sumo sacerdote esvaziavam o cofre e contavam o dinheiro, e levavam o cofre de volta para a entrada do templo outra vez. Isto continuou regularmente. Dessa forma ajuntaram muito dinheiro.
12O rei e Joiada davam esse dinheiro, que vinha em prata, aos encarregados da construção, e os encarregados contratavam pedreiros e carpinteiros para reformar o templo; também contrataram operários que trabalhavam em ferro e em bronze.
13Os encarregados da obra trabalhavam com diligência, e a obra de reforma foi progredindo. Finalmente, a reforma do templo estava concluída, de acordo com o modelo original, e em condições melhores do que antes.
14Quando tudo foi terminado, a prata que sobrou foi trazida ao rei e a Joiada, e eles concordaram em usar a prata na fabricação dos utensílios para o templo do Senhor, para o serviço e as ofertas queimadas, além de colheres e outros objetos de ouro e de prata usados para o incenso. As ofertas queimadas foram oferecidas continuamente durante o tempo em que o sacerdote Joiada viveu.
15Joiada viveu muito tempo e morreu em idade avançada, quando estava com cento e trinta anos de idade.
16Ele foi enterrado na Cidade de Davi, entre os reis, porque tinha feito tanto bem a Israel e ao serviço de Deus e do seu templo.
17Mas depois da morte de Joiada, os líderes de Judá vieram ao rei Joás e lhe prestaram reverência, e ele concordou com o que disseram,
18e abandonaram o templo do Senhor, o Deus dos seus antepassados, e adoraram as imagens vergonhosas de Aserá! Por isso, a ira de Deus veio novamente sobre Judá e Jerusalém.
19Embora o Senhor tivesse enviado profetas ao povo para avisá-lo que voltasse para ele, o povo não quis prestar atenção na pregação deles.
20Então o Espírito de Deus veio sobre Zacarias, filho do sacerdote Joiada. Ele se reuniu com todo o povo. Em pé, diante deles, numa plataforma, falou o seguinte: “Por que vocês estão desobedecendo aos mandamentos do Senhor? Pois quando vocês desobedecem, tudo o que vocês tentam fazer acaba em fracasso. Já que vocês abandonaram o Senhor, ele também os abandonará”.
21Então alguns fizeram um plano para matar Zacarias, e por ordem do próprio rei Joás apedrejaram Zacarias até a morte no pátio do templo do Senhor.
22Dessa maneira, o rei Joás não levou em conta que Joiada, pai de Zacarias, tinha sido bondoso com ele, e Joás matou o filho de Joiada. As últimas palavras de Zacarias, ao morrer apedrejado, foram: “Senhor, veja o que eles estão fazendo. Faça justiça!”
23Uns poucos meses depois, na virada do ano, o exército sírio marchou contra Joás; invadiu e conquistou Judá e Jerusalém, matando todos os líderes do povo, e enviou ao rei de Damasco grandes quantidades de tudo quanto tinham saqueado.
24Foi uma grande vitória para o pequeno exército sírio, porque o Senhor deixou que o grande exército de Judá fosse conquistado pelos sírios, porque eles haviam abandonado o Senhor, o Deus de seus antepassados. Desse modo, Deus executou o seu juízo sobre Joás.
25Quando os sírios foram embora, deixaram Joás muito ferido. Seus próprios oficiais decidiram matá-lo por causa do assassinato do filho do sacerdote Joiada. Eles mataram Joás quando este estava deitado na cama, e o enterraram na Cidade de Davi, mas não no cemitério dos reis.
26Aqueles que planejaram a morte do rei foram Zabade, cuja mãe era Simeate, uma mulher amonita, e Jeozabade, cuja mãe era Simeate, uma mulher moabita.
27Quanto aos filhos de Joás e as muitas profecias a seu respeito, e quanto ao relato da reforma do templo, está tudo escrito no Livro da História dos Reis. Quando Joás morreu, seu filho Amazias reinou em seu lugar.

1DE SIETE años era Joas cuando comenzó á reinar, y cuarenta años reinó en Jerusalem. El nombre de su madre fué Sibia, de Beer-seba.
2E hizo Joas lo recto en ojos de Jehová todos los días de Joiada el sacerdote.
3Y tomó para él Joiada dos mujeres; y engendró hijos é hijas.
4Después de esto aconteció que Joas tuvo voluntad de reparar la casa de Jehová.
5Y juntó los sacerdotes y los Levitas, y díjoles: Salid por las ciudades de Judá, y juntad dinero de todo Israel, para que cada año sea reparada la casa de vuestro Dios; y vosotros poned diligencia en el negocio. Mas los Levitas no pusieron diligencia.
6Por lo cual el rey llamó á Joiada el principal, y díjole: ¿Por qué no has procurado que los Levitas traigan de Judá y de Jerusalem al tabernáculo del testimonio, la ofrenda que impuso Moisés siervo de Jehová, y de la congregación de Israel?
7Porque la impía Athalía y sus hijos habían destruído la casa de Dios, y además habían gastado en los ídolos todas las cosas consagradas á la casa de Jehová.
8Mandó pues el rey que hiciesen un arca, la cual pusieron fuera á la puerta de la casa de Jehová;
9E hicieron pregonar en Judá y en Jerusalem, que trajesen á Jehová la ofrenda que Moisés siervo de Dios había impuesto á Israel en el desierto.
10Y todos los príncipes y todo el pueblo se holgaron: y traían, y echaban en el arca hasta henchirla.
11Y como venía el tiempo para llevar el arca al magistrado del rey por mano de los Levitas, cuando veían que había mucho dinero, venía el escriba del rey, y el que estaba puesto por el sumo sacerdote, y llevaban el arca, y vaciábanla, y volvíanla á su lugar: y así lo hacían de día en día, y recogían mucho dinero;
12El cual daba el rey y Joiada á los que hacían la obra del servicio de la casa de Jehová, y tomaban canteros y oficiales que reparasen la casa de Jehová, y herreros y metalarios para componer la casa de Jehová.
13Hacían pues los oficiales la obra, y por sus manos fué la obra restaurada, y restituyeron la casa de Dios á su condición, y la consolidaron.
14Y cuando hubieron acabado, trajeron lo que quedaba del dinero al rey y á Joiada, é hicieron de él vasos para la casa de Jehová, vasos para el servicio, morteros, cucharas, vasos de oro y de plata. Y sacrificaban holocaustos continuamente en la casa de Jehová todos los días de Joiada.
15Mas Joiada envejeció, y murió harto de días: de ciento y treinta años era cuando murió.
16Y sepultáronlo en la ciudad de David con los reyes, por cuanto había hecho bien con Israel, y para con Dios, y con su casa.
17Muerto Joiada, vinieron los príncipes de Judá, é hicieron acatamiento al rey; y el rey los oyó.
18Y desampararon la casa de Jehová el Dios de sus padres, y sirvieron á los bosques y á las imágenes esculpidas; y la ira vino sobre Judá y Jerusalem por este su pecado.
19Y envióles profetas, para que los redujesen á Jehová, los cuales les protestaron: mas ellos no los escucharon.
20Y el espíritu de Dios envistió á Zachârías, hijo de Joiada el sacerdote, el cual estando sobre el pueblo, les dijo: Así ha dicho Dios: ¿Por qué quebrantáis los mandamientos de Jehová? No os vendrá bien de ello; porque por haber dejado á Jehová, él también os dejará.
21Mas ellos hicieron conspiración contra él, y cubriéronle de piedras por mandato del rey, en el patio de la casa de Jehová.
22No tuvo pues memoria el rey Joas de la misericordia que su padre Joiada había hecho con él, antes matóle su hijo; el cual dijo al morir: Jehová lo vea, y lo requiera.
23A la vuelta del año subió contra él el ejército de Siria; y vinieron á Judá y á Jerusalem, y destruyeron en el pueblo á todos los principales de él, y enviaron todos sus despojos al rey á Damasco.
24Porque aunque el ejército de Siria había venido con poca gente, Jehová les entregó en sus manos un ejército muy numeroso; por cuanto habían dejado á Jehová el Dios de sus padres. Y con Joas hicieron juicios.
25Y yéndose de él los Siros, dejáronlo en muchas enfermedades; y conspiraron contra él sus siervos á causa de las sangres de los hijos de Joiada el sacerdote, é hiriéronle en su cama, y murió: y sepultáronle en la ciudad de David, mas no lo sepultaron en los sepulcros de los reyes.
26Los que conspiraron contra él fueron Zabad, hijo de Simath Ammonita, y Jozabad, hijo de Simrith Moabita.
27De sus hijos, y de la multiplicación que hizo de las rentas, y de la instauración de la casa de Jehová, he aquí está escrito en la historia del libro de los reyes. Y reinó en su lugar Amasías su hijo.

1Joash was seven years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Zibiah of Beer-sheba.
2And Joash did that which was right in the sight of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada the priest.
3And Jehoiada took for him two wives; and he begat sons and daughters.
4And it came to pass after this, that Joash was minded to repair the house of the LORD.
5And he gathered together the priests and the Levites, and said to them, Go out unto the cities of Judah, and gather of all Israel money to repair the house of your God from year to year, and see that ye hasten the matter. Howbeit the Levites hastened it not.
6And the king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said unto him, Why hast thou not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the collection, according to the commandment of Moses the servant of the LORD, and of the congregation of Israel, for the tabernacle of witness?
7For the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken up the house of God; and also all the dedicated things of the house of the LORD did they bestow upon Baalim.
8And at the king’s commandment they made a chest, and set it without at the gate of the house of the LORD.
9And they made a proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem, to bring in to the LORD the collection that Moses the servant of God laid upon Israel in the wilderness.
10And all the princes and all the people rejoiced, and brought in, and cast into the chest, until they had made an end.
11Now it came to pass, that at what time the chest was brought unto the king’s office by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the king’s scribe and the high priest’s officer came and emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to his place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.
12And the king and Jehoiada gave it to such as did the work of the service of the house of the LORD, and hired masons and carpenters to repair the house of the LORD, and also such as wrought iron and brass to mend the house of the LORD.
13So the workmen wrought, and the work was perfected by them, and they set the house of God in his state, and strengthened it.
14And when they had finished it, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, whereof were made vessels for the house of the LORD, even vessels to minister, and to offer withal, and spoons, and vessels of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the house of the LORD continually all the days of Jehoiada.
15But Jehoiada waxed old, and was full of days when he died; an hundred and thirty years old was he when he died.
16And they buried him in the city of David among the kings, because he had done good in Israel, both toward God, and toward his house.
17Now after the death of Jehoiada came the princes of Judah, and made obeisance to the king. Then the king hearkened unto them.
18And they left the house of the LORD God of their fathers, and served groves and idols: and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their trespass.
19Yet he sent prophets to them, to bring them again unto the LORD; and they testified against them: but they would not give ear.
20And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, which stood above the people, and said unto them, Thus saith God, Why transgress ye the commandments of the LORD, that ye cannot prosper? because ye have forsaken the LORD, he hath also forsaken you.
21And they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of the LORD.
22Thus Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but slew his son. And when he died, he said, The LORD look upon it, and require it.
23And it came to pass at the end of the year, that the host of Syria came up against him: and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all the spoil of them unto the king of Damascus.
24For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men, and the LORD delivered a very great host into their hand, because they had forsaken the LORD God of their fathers. So they executed judgment against Joash.
25And when they were departed from him, (for they left him in great diseases,) his own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and slew him on his bed, and he died: and they buried him in the city of David, but they buried him not in the sepulchres of the kings.
26And these are they that conspired against him; Zabad the son of Shimeath an Ammonitess, and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith a Moabitess.
27Now concerning his sons, and the greatness of the burdens laid upon him, and the repairing of the house of God, behold, they are written in the story of the book of the kings. And Amaziah his son reigned in his stead.

6The king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said to him, “Why haven’t you required of the Levites to bring in the tax of Moses the servant of the LORD, and of the assembly of Israel, out of Judah and out of Jerusalem, for the Tent of the Testimony?”
7For the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken up God’s house; and they also gave all the dedicated things of the LORD’s house to the Baals.
8So the king commanded, and they made a chest, and set it outside at the gate of the LORD’s house.

19Yet he sent prophets to them to bring them again to the LORD, and they testified against them; but they would not listen.
20The Spirit of God came on Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest; and he stood above the people, and said to them, “God says, ‘Why do you disobey the LORD’s commandments, so that you can’t prosper? Because you have forsaken the LORD, he has also forsaken you.’”
21They conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the LORD’s house.
22Thus Joash the king didn’t remember the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but killed his son. When he died, he said, “May the LORD look at it, and repay it.”
23At the end of the year, the army of the Syrians came up against him. They came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all their plunder to the king of Damascus.
24For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men; and the LORD delivered a very great army into their hand, because they had forsaken the LORD, the God of their fathers. So they executed judgment on Joash.
25When they had departed from him (for they left him seriously wounded), his own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and killed him on his bed, and he died. They buried him in David’s city, but they didn’t bury him in the tombs of the kings.
26These are those who conspired against him: Zabad the son of Shimeath the Ammonitess and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith the Moabitess.
27Now concerning his sons, the greatness of the burdens laid on him, and the rebuilding of God’s house, behold, they are written in the commentary of the book of the kings. Amaziah his son reigned in his place.
