1Joas war sieben Jahre alt, als er König wurde, und regierte in Jerusalem vierzig Jahre. Seine Mutter hieß Siba und war aus Beerseba.
2Joas tat, was dem Herrn gefiel, solange der Priester Jojada lebte.
3Und Jojada verheiratete ihn mit zwei Weibern, und er zeugte Söhne und Töchter.
4Danach beschloß Joas, das Haus des Herrn zu erneuern.
5Er versammelte die Priester und Leviten und sprach zu ihnen: "Geht in die Städte Judas hinaus und sammelt von ganz Israel Geld, um Jahr für Jahr das Haus eures Gottes auszubessern! Beeilt euch dabei!" Aber die Leviten beeilten sich nicht.
6Da berief der König das Oberhaupt Jojada und sprach zu ihm: "Warum hältst du nicht die Leviten an, daß sie aus Juda und Jerusalem die Steuer einbringen, die Moses, der Diener des Herrn, und die Gemeinde Israel für das Zeugniszelt auferlegt hat?"
7Denn Atalja, die ruchlos an den Kindern gehandelt, hatte das Gotteshaus verfallen lassen und sogar alle heiligen Gaben für das Haus des Herrn auf die Baale verwendet.
8Hierauf machte man auf des Königs Befehl eine Lade und stellte sie vor das Tor im Hause des Herrn hinaus.
9Dann rief man in Juda und Jerusalem aus, man solle dem Herrn die Steuer bringen, die der Diener Gottes, Moses, in der Wüste Israel auferlegt hatte.
10Da freuten sich alle Obersten und das ganze Volk. Sie brachten sie und warfen sie in die Lade, bis sie voll war.
11Die Lade brachte man jedesmal durch die Leviten vor das Amt des Königs, wenn man sah, daß viel Geld darin war. Dann kamen des Königs Schreiber und der Beamte des obersten Priesters und leerten die Lade. Dann trugen sie sie wieder an ihren Ort. So taten sie Tag für Tag und sammelten Geld in Menge.
12Der König und Jojada gaben es den Geschäftsführern bei der Arbeit am Hause des Herrn. Diese dingten Steinhauer und Zimmerleute, um das Haus des Herrn zu erneuern, dazu Eisen- und Kupferschmiede, um des Herrn Haus auszubessern.
13Die Geschäftsführer sorgten, daß durch sie die Ausbesserung vorwärtsging. So stellten sie das Gotteshaus in seiner Ausdehnung her und setzten es in guten Stand.
14Als sie fertig waren, brachten sie dem König und Jojada das übrige Geld. Daraus machte man Geräte für das Haus des Herrn, Geräte für den Dienst und für die Opferung und Schalen, goldene und silberne Geräte. Solange Jojada lebte, brachte man beständig im Haus des Herrn Brandopfer dar.
15Jojada aber ward alt und lebenssatt, dann starb er. Bei seinem Tode war er hundertdreißig Jahre alt.
16Man begrub ihn in der Davidsstadt bei den Königen. Denn er hatte Gutes getan an Israel und gegen Gott und an seinem Hause.
17Nach Jojadas Tod aber kamen die Fürsten Judas und warfen sich vor dem König nieder. Und der König hörte auf sie.
18Und so verließen sie das Haus des Herrn, des Gottes ihrer Väter, und dienten den Ascheren und den Bildern. Da kam ein Zorn über Juda und Jerusalem wegen dieser ihrer Versündigung.
19So schickte er ihnen Propheten, sie zum Herrn zurückzuführen. Und sie verwarnten sie. Aber jene hörten nicht darauf.
20Ein Gottesgeist aber hatte den Zakarja eingehüllt, den Sohn des Priesters Jojada. Er trat vor das Volk und sprach zu ihm: "Also spricht Gott: 'Warum habt ihr des Herrn Gebote übertreten und bringt euch so um euer Glück? Weil ihr den Herrn verlassen, verläßt er euch.'"
21Da scharten sie sich gegen ihn und steinigten ihn auf des Königs Befehl im Vorhof des Hauses des Herrn.
22König Joas aber hatte nicht mehr der Liebe gedacht, die sein Vater Jojada ihm erwiesen, sondern tötete dessen Sohn. Dieser aber hatte sterbend gesprochen: "Der Herr sehe es und ahnde es!"
23Um die Jahreswende zog nun gegen ihn das Heer der Aramäer. Sie kamen nach Juda und Jerusalem und tilgten alle Fürsten des Volkes aus dem Volke und sandten ihre ganze Beute an den König von Damaskus.
24Das Aramäerheer kam zwar mit weniger Mannschaft. Aber der Herr gab in ihre Hand eine überaus große Schar, weil sie den Herrn, ihrer Väter Gott, verlassen hatten. So vollzogen sie an Joas das Strafgericht.
25Sie zogen nun von ihm ab. Aber sie ließen ihn schwerkrank zurück. Da verschworen sich seine Diener gegen ihn wegen der Blutschuld an dem Sohne des Priesters Jojada und ermordeten ihn auf seinem Lager. So starb er, und man begrub ihn in der Davidsstadt, aber nicht in den Königsgräbern.
26Die sich gegen ihn verschworen hatten, waren Zabad, der Sohn der Ammoniterin Simat, und Jozabad, der Sohn der Moabiterin Simrit.
27Seine Söhne und die Schwere des Angriffs gegen ihn, sowie die Bauarbeit am Gotteshause sind in der Auslegung des Buches der Könige aufgezeichnet. An seiner Statt ward sein Sohn Amasjahu König.

1DE SIETE años era Joas cuando comenzó á reinar, y cuarenta años reinó en Jerusalem. El nombre de su madre fué Sibia, de Beer-seba.
2E hizo Joas lo recto en ojos de Jehová todos los días de Joiada el sacerdote.
3Y tomó para él Joiada dos mujeres; y engendró hijos é hijas.
4Después de esto aconteció que Joas tuvo voluntad de reparar la casa de Jehová.
5Y juntó los sacerdotes y los Levitas, y díjoles: Salid por las ciudades de Judá, y juntad dinero de todo Israel, para que cada año sea reparada la casa de vuestro Dios; y vosotros poned diligencia en el negocio. Mas los Levitas no pusieron diligencia.
6Por lo cual el rey llamó á Joiada el principal, y díjole: ¿Por qué no has procurado que los Levitas traigan de Judá y de Jerusalem al tabernáculo del testimonio, la ofrenda que impuso Moisés siervo de Jehová, y de la congregación de Israel?
7Porque la impía Athalía y sus hijos habían destruído la casa de Dios, y además habían gastado en los ídolos todas las cosas consagradas á la casa de Jehová.
8Mandó pues el rey que hiciesen un arca, la cual pusieron fuera á la puerta de la casa de Jehová;
9E hicieron pregonar en Judá y en Jerusalem, que trajesen á Jehová la ofrenda que Moisés siervo de Dios había impuesto á Israel en el desierto.
10Y todos los príncipes y todo el pueblo se holgaron: y traían, y echaban en el arca hasta henchirla.
11Y como venía el tiempo para llevar el arca al magistrado del rey por mano de los Levitas, cuando veían que había mucho dinero, venía el escriba del rey, y el que estaba puesto por el sumo sacerdote, y llevaban el arca, y vaciábanla, y volvíanla á su lugar: y así lo hacían de día en día, y recogían mucho dinero;
12El cual daba el rey y Joiada á los que hacían la obra del servicio de la casa de Jehová, y tomaban canteros y oficiales que reparasen la casa de Jehová, y herreros y metalarios para componer la casa de Jehová.
13Hacían pues los oficiales la obra, y por sus manos fué la obra restaurada, y restituyeron la casa de Dios á su condición, y la consolidaron.
14Y cuando hubieron acabado, trajeron lo que quedaba del dinero al rey y á Joiada, é hicieron de él vasos para la casa de Jehová, vasos para el servicio, morteros, cucharas, vasos de oro y de plata. Y sacrificaban holocaustos continuamente en la casa de Jehová todos los días de Joiada.
15Mas Joiada envejeció, y murió harto de días: de ciento y treinta años era cuando murió.
16Y sepultáronlo en la ciudad de David con los reyes, por cuanto había hecho bien con Israel, y para con Dios, y con su casa.
17Muerto Joiada, vinieron los príncipes de Judá, é hicieron acatamiento al rey; y el rey los oyó.
18Y desampararon la casa de Jehová el Dios de sus padres, y sirvieron á los bosques y á las imágenes esculpidas; y la ira vino sobre Judá y Jerusalem por este su pecado.
19Y envióles profetas, para que los redujesen á Jehová, los cuales les protestaron: mas ellos no los escucharon.
20Y el espíritu de Dios envistió á Zachârías, hijo de Joiada el sacerdote, el cual estando sobre el pueblo, les dijo: Así ha dicho Dios: ¿Por qué quebrantáis los mandamientos de Jehová? No os vendrá bien de ello; porque por haber dejado á Jehová, él también os dejará.
21Mas ellos hicieron conspiración contra él, y cubriéronle de piedras por mandato del rey, en el patio de la casa de Jehová.
22No tuvo pues memoria el rey Joas de la misericordia que su padre Joiada había hecho con él, antes matóle su hijo; el cual dijo al morir: Jehová lo vea, y lo requiera.
23A la vuelta del año subió contra él el ejército de Siria; y vinieron á Judá y á Jerusalem, y destruyeron en el pueblo á todos los principales de él, y enviaron todos sus despojos al rey á Damasco.
24Porque aunque el ejército de Siria había venido con poca gente, Jehová les entregó en sus manos un ejército muy numeroso; por cuanto habían dejado á Jehová el Dios de sus padres. Y con Joas hicieron juicios.
25Y yéndose de él los Siros, dejáronlo en muchas enfermedades; y conspiraron contra él sus siervos á causa de las sangres de los hijos de Joiada el sacerdote, é hiriéronle en su cama, y murió: y sepultáronle en la ciudad de David, mas no lo sepultaron en los sepulcros de los reyes.
26Los que conspiraron contra él fueron Zabad, hijo de Simath Ammonita, y Jozabad, hijo de Simrith Moabita.
27De sus hijos, y de la multiplicación que hizo de las rentas, y de la instauración de la casa de Jehová, he aquí está escrito en la historia del libro de los reyes. Y reinó en su lugar Amasías su hijo.

1Joash was seven years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Zibiah of Beer-sheba.
2And Joash did that which was right in the sight of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada the priest.
3And Jehoiada took for him two wives; and he begat sons and daughters.
4And it came to pass after this, that Joash was minded to repair the house of the LORD.
5And he gathered together the priests and the Levites, and said to them, Go out unto the cities of Judah, and gather of all Israel money to repair the house of your God from year to year, and see that ye hasten the matter. Howbeit the Levites hastened it not.
6And the king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said unto him, Why hast thou not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the collection, according to the commandment of Moses the servant of the LORD, and of the congregation of Israel, for the tabernacle of witness?
7For the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken up the house of God; and also all the dedicated things of the house of the LORD did they bestow upon Baalim.
8And at the king’s commandment they made a chest, and set it without at the gate of the house of the LORD.
9And they made a proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem, to bring in to the LORD the collection that Moses the servant of God laid upon Israel in the wilderness.
10And all the princes and all the people rejoiced, and brought in, and cast into the chest, until they had made an end.
11Now it came to pass, that at what time the chest was brought unto the king’s office by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the king’s scribe and the high priest’s officer came and emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to his place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.
12And the king and Jehoiada gave it to such as did the work of the service of the house of the LORD, and hired masons and carpenters to repair the house of the LORD, and also such as wrought iron and brass to mend the house of the LORD.
13So the workmen wrought, and the work was perfected by them, and they set the house of God in his state, and strengthened it.
14And when they had finished it, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, whereof were made vessels for the house of the LORD, even vessels to minister, and to offer withal, and spoons, and vessels of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the house of the LORD continually all the days of Jehoiada.
15But Jehoiada waxed old, and was full of days when he died; an hundred and thirty years old was he when he died.
16And they buried him in the city of David among the kings, because he had done good in Israel, both toward God, and toward his house.
17Now after the death of Jehoiada came the princes of Judah, and made obeisance to the king. Then the king hearkened unto them.
18And they left the house of the LORD God of their fathers, and served groves and idols: and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their trespass.
19Yet he sent prophets to them, to bring them again unto the LORD; and they testified against them: but they would not give ear.
20And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, which stood above the people, and said unto them, Thus saith God, Why transgress ye the commandments of the LORD, that ye cannot prosper? because ye have forsaken the LORD, he hath also forsaken you.
21And they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of the LORD.
22Thus Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but slew his son. And when he died, he said, The LORD look upon it, and require it.
23And it came to pass at the end of the year, that the host of Syria came up against him: and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all the spoil of them unto the king of Damascus.
24For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men, and the LORD delivered a very great host into their hand, because they had forsaken the LORD God of their fathers. So they executed judgment against Joash.
25And when they were departed from him, (for they left him in great diseases,) his own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and slew him on his bed, and he died: and they buried him in the city of David, but they buried him not in the sepulchres of the kings.
26And these are they that conspired against him; Zabad the son of Shimeath an Ammonitess, and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith a Moabitess.
27Now concerning his sons, and the greatness of the burdens laid upon him, and the repairing of the house of God, behold, they are written in the story of the book of the kings. And Amaziah his son reigned in his stead.

6The king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said to him, “Why haven’t you required of the Levites to bring in the tax of Moses the servant of the LORD, and of the assembly of Israel, out of Judah and out of Jerusalem, for the Tent of the Testimony?”
7For the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken up God’s house; and they also gave all the dedicated things of the LORD’s house to the Baals.
8So the king commanded, and they made a chest, and set it outside at the gate of the LORD’s house.
9They made a proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem, to bring in for the LORD the tax that Moses the servant of God laid on Israel in the wilderness.
10All the princes and all the people rejoiced, and brought in, and cast into the chest, until they had filled it.

19Yet he sent prophets to them to bring them again to the LORD, and they testified against them; but they would not listen.
20The Spirit of God came on Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest; and he stood above the people, and said to them, “God says, ‘Why do you disobey the LORD’s commandments, so that you can’t prosper? Because you have forsaken the LORD, he has also forsaken you.’”
21They conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the LORD’s house.
22Thus Joash the king didn’t remember the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but killed his son. When he died, he said, “May the LORD look at it, and repay it.”
23At the end of the year, the army of the Syrians came up against him. They came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all their plunder to the king of Damascus.
24For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men; and the LORD delivered a very great army into their hand, because they had forsaken the LORD, the God of their fathers. So they executed judgment on Joash.
25When they had departed from him (for they left him seriously wounded), his own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and killed him on his bed, and he died. They buried him in David’s city, but they didn’t bury him in the tombs of the kings.
26These are those who conspired against him: Zabad the son of Shimeath the Ammonitess and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith the Moabitess.
27Now concerning his sons, the greatness of the burdens laid on him, and the rebuilding of God’s house, behold, they are written in the commentary of the book of the kings. Amaziah his son reigned in his place.
