1Josaphat, roi de Juda, retourna sain et sauf chez lui, à Jérusalem.
2Jéhu, fils de Hanani, le Voyant, alla à sa rencontre et dit au roi Josaphat: "Devais-tu prêter ton concours à cet impie? Sont-ce les ennemis du Seigneur que tu aimes? Par là, tu as provoqué contre toi la colère de l’Eternel.
3Toutefois, des mérites réels se trouvent en toi, puisque tu as fait disparaître les Achêrot de ce pays, et que tu t’es appliqué, de cœur, à rechercher l’Eternel."
4Josaphat, après s’être réinstallé à Jérusalem, se remit à visiter les populations depuis Bersabée jusqu’aux monts d’Ephraïm et les ramena à l’Eternel, Dieu de leurs ancêtres.
5Il institua des juges dans le pays, dans chacune des villes fortes de Juda,
6et dit à ces juges: "Soyez attentifs à ce que vous faites! Ce n’est pas au nom d’un homme que vous rendez justice, mais au nom de l’Eternel: Il est présent quand vous prononcez un jugement.
7Puisse donc la crainte du Seigneur vous inspirer! Soyez circonspects dans vos actes, car l’Eternel, notre Dieu, n’admet ni iniquité, ni acception de personnes, ni corruption par les présents."
8A Jérusalem également, Josaphat choisit des Lévites, des prêtres et des chefs de famille d’Israël pour connaître des affaires religieuses et des autres litiges. (On était revenu à Jérusalem.)
9Il leur adressa ces recommandations: "Voici comment vous agirez, guidés par la crainte du Seigneur, en toute droiture et d’un cœur intègre.
10Chaque fois que vos frères, demeurant dans leurs villes respectives, porteront un procès devant vous, qu’il s’agisse d’une question de meurtre ou qu’il s’agisse de doctrine, de prescriptions, de statuts et de droits, vous les éclairerez pour qu’ils ne se rendent pas coupables envers le Seigneur, ce qui vous attirerait à vous et à vos frères la colère divine. Faites ainsi, et vous éviterez les fautes.
11Et voyez, le prêtre Amariahou sera à votre tête pour toutes les affaires religieuses, et Zebadiahou, fils d’Ismaël, le prince de la maison de Juda, pour toutes les affaires du roi. Les Lévites seront à votre disposition comme prévôts. Courage donc et à l’œuvre! Que l’Eternel assiste quiconque veut le bien!"

1Y JOSAPHAT rey de Judá se volvió en paz á su casa en Jerusalem.
2Y salióle al encuentro Jehú el vidente, hijo de Hanani, y dijo al rey Josaphat: ¿Al impío das ayuda, y amas á los que aborrecen á Jehová? Pues la ira de la presencia de Jehová será sobre ti por ello.
3Empero se han hallado en ti buenas cosas, porque cortaste de la tierra los bosques, y has apercibido tu corazón á buscar á Dios.
4Habitó pues Josaphat en Jerusalem; mas daba vuelta y salía al pueblo, desde Beer-seba hasta el monte de Ephraim, y reducíalos á Jehová el Dios de sus padres.
5Y puso en la tierra jueces en todas las ciudades fuertes de Judá, por todos los lugares.
6Y dijo á los jueces: Mirad lo que hacéis: porque no juzgáis en lugar de hombre, sino en lugar de Jehová, el cual está con vosotros en el negocio del juicio.
7Sea pues con vosotros el temor de Jehová; guardad y haced: porque en Jehová nuestro Dios no hay iniquidad, ni acepción de personas, ni recibir cohecho.
8Y puso también Josaphat en Jerusalem algunos de los Levitas y sacerdotes, y de los padres de familias de Israel, para el juicio de Jehová y para las causas. Y volviéronse á Jerusalem.
9Y mandóles, diciendo: Procederéis asimismo con temor de Jehová, con verdad, y con corazón íntegro.
10En cualquier causa que viniere á vosotros de vuestros hermanos que habitan en las ciudades, entre sangre y sangre, entre ley y precepto, estatutos y derechos, habéis de amonestarles que no pequen contra Jehová, porque no venga ira sobre vosotros y sobre vuestros hermanos. Obrando así no pecaréis.
11Y he aquí Amarías sacerdote será el que os presida en todo negocio de Jehová; y Zebadías hijo de Ismael, príncipe de la casa de Judá, en todos los negocios del rey; también los Levitas serán oficiales en presencia de vosotros. Esforzaos pues, y obrad; que Jehová será con el bueno.

1And Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned to his house in peace to Jerusalem.
2And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, Shouldest thou help the ungodly, and love them that hate the LORD? therefore is wrath upon thee from before the LORD.
3Nevertheless there are good things found in thee, in that thou hast taken away the groves out of the land, and hast prepared thine heart to seek God.
4And Jehoshaphat dwelt at Jerusalem: and he went out again through the people from Beer-sheba to mount Ephraim, and brought them back unto the LORD God of their fathers.
5And he set judges in the land throughout all the fenced cities of Judah, city by city,
6And said to the judges, Take heed what ye do: for ye judge not for man, but for the LORD, who is with you in the judgment.
7Wherefore now let the fear of the LORD be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the LORD our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.
8Moreover in Jerusalem did Jehoshaphat set of the Levites, and of the priests, and of the chief of the fathers of Israel, for the judgment of the LORD, and for controversies, when they returned to Jerusalem.
9And he charged them, saying, Thus shall ye do in the fear of the LORD, faithfully, and with a perfect heart.
10And what cause soever shall come to you of your brethren that dwell in their cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment, statutes and judgments, ye shall even warn them that they trespass not against the LORD, and so wrath come upon you, and upon your brethren: this do, and ye shall not trespass.
11And, behold, Amariah the chief priest is over you in all matters of the LORD; and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the ruler of the house of Judah, for all the king’s matters: also the Levites shall be officers before you. Deal courageously, and the LORD shall be with the good.

1Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned to his house in peace to Jerusalem.
2Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to King Jehoshaphat, “Should you help the wicked, and love those who hate the LORD? Because of this, wrath is on you from before the LORD.
3Nevertheless there are good things found in you, in that you have put away the Asheroth out of the land, and have set your heart to seek God.”
4Jehoshaphat lived at Jerusalem; and he went out again among the people from Beersheba to the hill country of Ephraim, and brought them back to the LORD, the God of their fathers.
5He set judges in the land throughout all the fortified cities of Judah, city by city,
6and said to the judges, “Consider what you do, for you don’t judge for man, but for the LORD; and he is with you in the judgment.
7Now therefore let the fear of the LORD be on you. Take heed and do it; for there is no iniquity with the LORD our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of bribes.”
8Moreover in Jerusalem Jehoshaphat appointed certain Levites, priests, and heads of the fathers’ households of Israel to give judgment for the LORD and for controversies. They returned to Jerusalem.
9He commanded them, saying, “You shall do this in the fear of the LORD, faithfully, and with a perfect heart.
10Whenever any controversy comes to you from your brothers who dwell in their cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment, statutes and ordinances, you must warn them, that they not be guilty toward the LORD, and so wrath come on you and on your brothers. Do this, and you will not be guilty.
11Behold, Amariah the chief priest is over you in all matters of the LORD; and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the ruler of the house of Judah, in all the king’s matters. Also the Levites shall be officers before you. Deal courageously, and may the LORD be with the good.”
