1Entonces fueron los hombres de Quiriat Yearín y se llevaron el cofre a la casa de Abinadab, situada en la colina. A Eleazar su hijo lo santificaron para que estuviera a cargo de ella.
2El cofre permaneció allí durante veinte años; Israel tuvo tristeza porque el Señor aparentemente los había abandonado.
3Entonces Samuel les dijo: «Si realmente quieren volver al Señor, desháganse de los dioses extraños y de los ídolos de Astarté. Resuélvanse a obedecer y a adorar solamente al Señor, y él los liberará de los filisteos».
4Ellos destruyeron los ídolos de Baal y Astarté y adoraron solamente al Señor.
5Y Samuel les dijo: «Vengan a Mizpa, y yo oraré al Señor por ustedes».
6Cuando se reunieron allí, en una gran ceremonia sacaron agua del pozo y la derramaron delante del Señor. También ayunaron todo el día como señal de tristeza por sus pecados. Y Samuel quedó establecido en Mizpa como juez de Israel.
7Cuando los filisteos se enteraron de la gran concentración que había en Mizpa, sus príncipes se movilizaron contra ellos. Los israelitas sintieron un miedo horrible cuando supieron que los filisteos se acercaban.
8«Ruega a nuestro Dios para que nos salve» —suplicaban a Samuel.
9Samuel tomó un cordero que no había sido destetado aún y lo ofreció al Señor como holocausto, y oró por el pueblo de Israel. Y el Señor respondió.
10Mientras Samuel estaba ofreciendo el holocausto, los filisteos llegaron para ofrecer batalla, pero el Señor habló con voz de trueno desde el cielo y se confundieron, y los israelitas los derrotaron
11y los persiguieron desde Mizpa hasta Bet Car, y los fueron matando a todos por el camino.
12Samuel entonces tomó una piedra y la puso entre Mizpa y Sen y la llamó Ebenezer (Piedra de Ayuda) porque dijo: «Hasta aquí nos ha ayudado el Señor».
13Así los filisteos fueron subyugados y no volvieron a invadir Israel en aquella época, pues el Señor estuvo contra ellos durante el resto de la vida de Samuel.
14Las ciudades israelitas que estaban entre Ecrón y Gat y que habían sido conquistadas por los filisteos volvieron a ser de Israel, porque el ejército de Israel las rescató de sus raptores filisteos. Y hubo paz entre Israel y los amorreos en aquellos días.
15Samuel siguió juzgando a Israel por el resto de su vida.
16Cada año hacía un recorrido por Betel, Gilgal y Mizpa, juzgaba los casos que le eran presentados en cada una de estas ciudades y en todo el territorio que las circundaba.
17Luego regresaba a Ramá; porque allí vivía y allí juzgaba a Israel. Y edificó un altar al Señor en Ramá.

1Y VINIERON los de Chîriath-jearim, y llevaron el arca de Jehová, y metiéronla en casa de Abinadab, situada en el collado; y santificaron á Eleazar su hijo, para que guardase el arca de Jehová.
2Y aconteció que desde el día que llegó el arca á Chîriath-jearim pasaron muchos días, veinte años; y toda la casa de Israel lamentaba en pos de Jehová.
3Y habló Samuel á toda la casa de Israel, diciendo: Si de todo vuestro corazón os volvéis á Jehová, quitad los dioses ajenos y á Astaroth de entre vosotros, y preparad vuestro corazón á Jehová, y á sólo él servid, y os librará de mano de los Filisteos.
4Entonces los hijos de Israel quitaron á los Baales y á Astaroth, y sirvieron á solo Jehová.
5Y Samuel dijo: Juntad á todo Israel en Mizpa, y yo oraré por vosotros á Jehová.
6Y juntándose en Mizpa, sacaron agua, y derramáronla delante de Jehová, y ayunaron aquel día, y dijeron allí: Contra Jehová hemos pecado. Y juzgó Samuel á los hijos de Israel en Mizpa.
7Y oyendo los Filisteos que los hijos de Israel estaban reunidos en Mizpa, subieron los príncipes de los Filisteos contra Israel: lo cual como hubieron oído los hijos de Israel, tuvieron temor de los Filisteos.
8Y dijeron los hijos de Israel á Samuel: No ceses de clamar por nosotros á Jehová nuestro Dios, que nos guarde de mano de los filisteos.
9Y Samuel tomó un cordero de leche, y sacrificólo entero á Jehová en holocausto: y clamó Samuel á Jehová por Israel, y Jehová le oyó.
10Y aconteció que estando Samuel sacrificando el holocausto, los Filisteos llegaron para pelear con los hijos de Israel. Mas Jehová tronó aquel día con grande estruendo sobre los Filisteos, y desbaratólos, y fueron vencidos delante de Israel.
11Y saliendo los hijos de Israel de Mizpa, siguieron á los Filisteos, hiriéndolos hasta abajo de Beth-car.
12Tomó luego Samuel una piedra, y púsola entre Mizpa y Sen, y púsole por nombre Eben-ezer, diciendo: Hasta aquí nos ayudó Jehová.
13Fueron pues los Filisteos humillados, que no vinieron más al término de Israel; y la mano de Jehová fué contra los Filisteos todo el tiempo de Samuel.
14Y fueron restituídas á los hijos de Israel las ciudades que los Filisteos habían tomado á los Israelitas, desde Ecrón hasta Gath, con sus términos: é Israel las libró de mano de los Filisteos. Y hubo paz entre Israel y el Amorrheo.
15Y juzgó Samuel á Israel todo el tiempo que vivió.
16Y todos los años iba y daba vuelta á Beth-el, y á Gilgal, y á Mizpa, y juzgaba á Israel en todos estos lugares.
17Volvíase después á Rama, porque allí estaba su casa, y allí juzgaba á Israel; y edificó allí altar á Jehová.
King James Version
1And the men of Kirjath-jearim came, and fetched up the ark of the LORD, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill, and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of the LORD.
2And it came to pass, while the ark abode in Kirjath-jearim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel lamented after the LORD.
3And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye do return unto the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the LORD, and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.
4Then the children of Israel did put away Baalim and Ashtaroth, and served the LORD only.
5And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpeh, and I will pray for you unto the LORD.
6And they gathered together to Mizpeh, and drew water, and poured it out before the LORD, and fasted on that day, and said there, We have sinned against the LORD. And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpeh.
7And when the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together to Mizpeh, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the children of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines.
8And the children of Israel said to Samuel, Cease not to cry unto the LORD our God for us, that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines.
9And Samuel took a sucking lamb, and offered it for a burnt offering wholly unto the LORD: and Samuel cried unto the LORD for Israel; and the LORD heard him.
10And as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel: but the LORD thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Philistines, and discomfited them; and they were smitten before Israel.
11And the men of Israel went out of Mizpeh, and pursued the Philistines, and smote them, until they came under Beth-car.
12Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Eben-ezer, saying, Hitherto hath the LORD helped us.
13So the Philistines were subdued, and they came no more into the coast of Israel: and the hand of the LORD was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.
14And the cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even unto Gath; and the coasts thereof did Israel deliver out of the hands of the Philistines. And there was peace between Israel and the Amorites.
15And Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.
16And he went from year to year in circuit to Beth-el, and Gilgal, and Mizpeh, and judged Israel in all those places.
17And his return was to Ramah; for there was his house; and there he judged Israel; and there he built an altar unto the LORD.
World English Bible
1The men of Kiriath Jearim came and took the LORD’s ark, and brought it into Abinadab’s house on the hill, and consecrated Eleazar his son to keep the LORD’s ark.
2From the day that the ark stayed in Kiriath Jearim, the time was long—for it was twenty years; and all the house of Israel lamented after the LORD.
3Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, “If you are returning to the LORD with all your heart, then put away the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you, and direct your hearts to the LORD, and serve him only; and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.”
4Then the children of Israel removed the Baals and the Ashtaroth, and served the LORD only.
5Samuel said, “Gather all Israel to Mizpah, and I will pray to the LORD for you.”
6They gathered together to Mizpah, and drew water, and poured it out before the LORD, and fasted on that day, and said there, “We have sinned against the LORD.” Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpah.
7When the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together at Mizpah, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. When the children of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines.
8The children of Israel said to Samuel, “Don’t stop crying to the LORD our God for us, that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines.”
9Samuel took a suckling lamb, and offered it for a whole burnt offering to the LORD. Samuel cried to the LORD for Israel, and the LORD answered him.
10As Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines came near to battle against Israel; but the LORD thundered with a great thunder on that day on the Philistines and confused them; and they were struck down before Israel.
11The men of Israel went out of Mizpah and pursued the Philistines, and struck them until they came under Beth Kar.
12Then Samuel took a stone and set it between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer, saying, “The LORD helped us until now.”
13So the Philistines were subdued, and they stopped coming within the border of Israel. The LORD’s hand was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.
14The cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even to Gath; and Israel recovered its border out of the hand of the Philistines. There was peace between Israel and the Amorites.
15Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.
16He went from year to year in a circuit to Bethel, Gilgal, and Mizpah; and he judged Israel in all those places.
17His return was to Ramah, for his house was there, and he judged Israel there; and he built an altar to the LORD there.
