1Inzwischen hatten die Philister Israel angegriffen; die Israeliten aber hatten vor den Philistern die Flucht ergriffen, und auf dem Berge Gilboa lagen Erschlagene umher.
2Die Philister hefteten sich an Sauls und seiner Söhne Fersen, und die Philister erschlugen Sauls Söhne: Jonathan, Abinadab und Malchisua.
3Als aber der Kampf sich heftig gegen Saul wandte und einig der Bogenschützen ihn entdeckt hatten, erfaßte ihn große Angst vor den Schützen.
4Da bat Saul seinen Waffenträger: Zücke dein Schwerrt und durchbohre mich damit, daß nicht diese Unbeschnittenen kommen und ihren Mutwillen mit mir treiben! Aber sein Waffenträger wollte nicht, weil er sich zu sehr fürchtete. da ergriff Saul das Schwert und stürzte sich darein.
5Als aber sein Waffenträger sah, daß Saul tot sei, stürzte er sich gleichfalls in sein Schwert und starb an seiner Seite.
6So kamen saul, seine drei Söhne und sein Waffenträger an jenem Tage zugleich ums Leben.
7Als aber die Israeliten, die auf der anderen Seite der Ebene und auf der anderen seite des Jordan wohnten gewahrten, daß die Israeliten geflohen, und daß Saul und seine Söhne gefallen waren, räumten sie ihre Städte und flüchteten sich. Und die Philister kamen und setzten sich darin fest.
8Am folgenden Tage nun, als die Philister kamen, die Erschlagenen zu berauben, fanden sie Saul mit seinen drei Söhnen auf dem Berge Gilboa liegend.
9Sie schnitten ihm den Kopf ab, zogen ihm seine Rüstung aus und sandten Boten im Lande der Philister umher, um bei ihren Götzen und dem Volke die Siegesbotschaft zu verkünden.
10Seine Rüstung legten sie im Tempel der Astarde nieder und seine Leiche hingen sie auf an der Mauer von Bethsan.
11Als aber die Bürger von Jabes in Gilead über ihn vernahmen, wie die Philister mit Saul verfahren waren,
12machten sich alle wehrhaften Männer auf, marschierten die ganze Nacht hindurch und stahlen den Leichnam Sauls und die Leichen seiner Söhne von der Mauer Bethsans. Sodann kehrten sie nach Jabes zurück und verbrannten sie dort
13und nahmen ihre Gebeine, begruben sie unter der Tamariske in Jabes und fasteten sieben Tage.

1LOS Filisteos pues pelearon con Israel, y los de Israel huyeron delante de los Filisteos, y cayeron muertos en el monte de Gilboa.
2Y siguiendo los Filisteos á Saúl y á sus hijos, mataron á Jonathán, y á Abinadab, y á Melchîsua, hijos de Saúl.
3Y agravóse la batalla sobre Saúl, y le alcanzaron los flecheros; y tuvo gran temor de los flecheros.
4Entonces dijo Saúl á su escudero: Saca tu espada, y pásame con ella, porque no vengan estos incircuncisos, y me pasen, y me escarnezcan. Mas su escudero no quería, porque tenía gran temor. Entonces tomó Saúl la espada, y echóse sobre ella.
5Y viendo su escudero á Saúl muerto, él también se echó sobre su espada, y murió con él.
6Así murió Saúl en aquel día, juntamente con sus tres hijos, y su escudero, y todos sus varones.
7Y los de Israel que eran de la otra parte del valle, y de la otra parte del Jordán, viendo que Israel había huído, y que Saúl y sus hijos eran muertos, dejaron las ciudades y huyeron; y los Filisteos vinieron y habitaron en ellas.
8Y aconteció el siguiente día, que viniendo los Filisteos á despojar los muertos, hallaron á Saúl y á sus tres hijos tendidos en el monte de Gilboa;
9Y cortáronle la cabeza, y desnudáronle las armas; y enviaron á tierra de los Filisteos al contorno, para que lo noticiaran en el templo de sus ídolos, y por el pueblo.
10Y pusieron sus armas en el templo de Astaroth, y colgaron su cuerpo en el muro de Beth-san.
11Mas oyendo los de Jabes de Galaad esto que los Filisteos hicieron á Saúl,
12Todos los hombres valientes se levantaron, y anduvieron toda aquella noche, y quitaron el cuerpo de Saúl y los cuerpos de sus hijos del muro de Beth-san; y viniendo á Jabes, quemáronlos allí.
13Y tomando sus huesos, sepultáronlos debajo de un árbol en Jabes, y ayunaron siete días.

1Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.
2And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, Saul’s sons.
3And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him; and he was sore wounded of the archers.
4Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.
5And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise upon his sword, and died with him.
6So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armourbearer, and all his men, that same day together.
7And when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley, and they that were on the other side Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.
8And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen in mount Gilboa.
9And they cut off his head, and stripped off his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to publish it in the house of their idols, and among the people.
10And they put his armour in the house of Ashtaroth: and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth-shan.
11And when the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead heard of that which the Philistines had done to Saul;
12All the valiant men arose, and went all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan, and came to Jabesh, and burnt them there.
13And they took their bones, and buried them under a tree at Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

1Now the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain on Mount Gilboa.
2The Philistines overtook Saul and his sons; and the Philistines killed Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul.
3The battle went hard against Saul, and the archers overtook him; and he was greatly distressed by reason of the archers.
4Then Saul said to his armor bearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through and abuse me!” But his armor bearer would not, for he was terrified. Therefore Saul took his sword and fell on it.
5When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell on his sword, and died with him.
6So Saul died with his three sons, his armor bearer, and all his men that same day together.
7When the men of Israel who were on the other side of the valley, and those who were beyond the Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned the cities and fled; and the Philistines came and lived in them.
8On the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.
9They cut off his head, stripped off his armor, and sent into the land of the Philistines all around, to carry the news to the house of their idols and to the people.
10They put his armor in the house of the Ashtaroth, and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth Shan.
11When the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul,
12all the valiant men arose, went all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth Shan; and they came to Jabesh and burned them there.
13They took their bones and buried them under the tamarisk tree in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
