1*Et il se trouva que, lorsque David et ses hommes arrivèrent à Tsiklag, le troisième jour, les Amalékites avaient fait une incursion sur le [pays du] midi, et sur Tsiklag ; et ils avaient frappé Tsiklag et l’avaient brûlée par le feu ;
2et ils avaient emmené captives les femmes qui y étaient ; depuis le petit jusqu’au grand, ils n’avaient fait mourir personne, mais ils les avaient emmenés et s’en étaient allés leur chemin.
3Et David et ses hommes vinrent à la ville ; et voici, elle était brûlée par le feu, et leurs femmes, et leurs fils, et leurs filles, étaient emmenés captifs.
4Et David et le peuple qui était avec lui élevèrent leurs voix et pleurèrent, jusqu’à ce qu’il n’y eut plus en eux de force pour pleurer.
5Et les deux femmes de David, Akhinoam, la Jizreélite, et Abigaïl, femme de Nabal, le Carmélite, étaient emmenées captives.
6Et David fut dans une grande détresse, car le peuple parlait de le lapider ; car l’âme de tout le peuple était pleine d’amertume, chacun à cause de ses fils et à cause de ses filles. Et David se fortifia en l’Éternel, son Dieu.
7Et David dit à Abiathar, le sacrificateur, fils d’Akhimélec : Je te prie, apporte-moi l’éphod. Et Abiathar apporta l’éphod à David.
8Et David interrogea l’Éternel, disant : Poursuivrai-je cette troupe ? l’atteindrai-je ? Et il lui dit : Poursuis, car tu l’atteindras certainement, et tu recouvreras tout.
9Et David s’en alla, lui et les 600 hommes qui étaient avec lui, et ils arrivèrent au torrent de Besçor ; et ceux qui restaient en arrière s’arrêtèrent.
10Et David et 400 hommes firent la poursuite, et 200 hommes s’arrêtèrent, qui étaient trop fatigués pour passer le torrent de Besçor.
11Et ils trouvèrent dans les champs un homme égyptien, et ils l’amenèrent à David ; et ils lui donnèrent du pain, et il mangea, et ils lui donnèrent de l’eau à boire ;
12ils lui donnèrent aussi un morceau de gâteau de figues sèches et deux gâteaux de raisins secs, et il mangea ; et l’esprit lui revint, car il n’avait pas mangé de pain et n’avait pas bu d’eau, pendant trois jours et trois nuits.
13Et David lui dit : À qui es-tu ? et d’où es-tu ? Et il dit : Je suis un garçon égyptien, serviteur d’un homme amalékite ; et mon maître m’a abandonné, il y a trois jours, car j’étais malade.
14Nous avons fait une incursion au midi des Keréthiens, et sur ce qui est à Juda, et sur le midi de Caleb, et nous avons brûlé Tsiklag par le feu.
15Et David lui dit : Me ferais-tu descendre vers cette troupe ? Et il dit : Jure-moi par Dieu que tu ne me feras pas mourir, et que tu ne me livreras pas en la main de mon maître, et je te ferai descendre vers cette troupe.
16Et il l’y fit descendre. Et voici, ils étaient répandus sur la face de tout le pays, mangeant et buvant, et dansant, à cause de tout le grand butin qu’ils avaient enlevé du pays des Philistins et du pays de Juda.
17Et David les frappa depuis le crépuscule jusqu’au soir du lendemain, et aucun d’eux n’échappa, sauf 400 jeunes hommes qui s’enfuirent montés sur des chameaux.
18Et David recouvra tout ce qu’Amalek avait pris, et David recouvra ses deux femmes.
19Et il n’y eut rien qui leur manque, petits ou grands, fils ou filles, butin, ou quoi que ce soit qu’on leur avait pris : David ramena tout.
20Et David prit tout le menu et le gros bétail qu’on fit marcher devant ce troupeau-là ; et on dit : C’est ici le butin de David.
21Et David vint vers les 200 hommes qui avaient été trop fatigués pour suivre David, et qu’on avait fait rester auprès du torrent de Besçor ; et ils sortirent à la rencontre de David et à la rencontre du peuple qui était avec lui ; et David s’approcha du peuple, et les interrogea touchant leur bien-être.
22Et tout homme méchant et inique, d’entre les hommes qui étaient allés avec David, répondit et dit : Puisqu’ils ne sont pas venus avec nous, nous ne leur donnerons pas du butin que nous avons recouvré, sauf à chacun sa femme et ses fils ; et qu’ils les emmènent et s’en aillent.
23Mais David dit : Vous ne ferez pas ainsi mes frères, avec ce que nous a donné l’Éternel, qui nous a gardés et a livré entre nos mains la troupe qui était venue contre nous.
24Et qui vous écoutera dans cette affaire ? Car telle qu’est la part de celui qui descend à la bataille, telle sera la part de celui qui demeure auprès du bagage : ils partageront ensemble.
25Et il en fut [ainsi] depuis ce jour-là et dans la suite, et on l’établit comme statut et comme ordonnance en Israël, jusqu’à ce jour.
26Et David revint à Tsiklag, et envoya du butin aux anciens de Juda, à ses amis, disant : Voici un présent pour vous, sur le butin des ennemis de l’Éternel.
27[Il en envoya] à ceux qui étaient à Béthel, et à ceux qui étaient à Ramoth du midi, et à ceux qui étaient à Jatthir,
28et à ceux qui étaient à Aroër, et à ceux qui étaient à Siphmoth, et à ceux qui étaient à Eshtemoa,
29et à ceux qui étaient à Racal, et à ceux qui étaient dans les villes des Jerakhmeélites, et à ceux qui étaient dans les villes des Kéniens,
30et à ceux qui étaient à Horma, et à ceux qui étaient à Cor-Ashan, et à ceux qui étaient à Athac,
31et à ceux qui étaient à Hébron, et dans tous les lieux où David était allé et venu, lui et ses hommes.

1Y CUANDO David y los suyos vinieron á Siclag al tercer día, los de Amalec habían invadido el mediodía y á Siclag, y habían desolado á Siclag, y puéstola á fuego.
2Y habíanse llevado cautivas á las mujeres que estaban en ella, desde el menor hasta el mayor; mas á nadie habían muerto, sino llevado, é ídose su camino.
3Vino pues David con los suyos á la ciudad, y he aquí que estaba quemada á fuego, y sus mujeres y sus hijos é hijas llevadas cautivas.
4Entonces David y la gente que con él estaba, alzaron su voz y lloraron, hasta que les faltaron las fuerzas para llorar.
5Las dos mujeres de David, Ahinoam Jezreelita y Abigail la que fué mujer de Nabal del Carmelo, también eran cautivas.
6Y David fué muy angustiado, porque el pueblo hablaba de apedrearlo; porque todo el pueblo estaba con ánimo amargo, cada uno por sus hijos y por sus hijas: mas David se esforzó en Jehová su Dios.
7Y dijo David al sacerdote Abiathar hijo de Ahimelech: Yo te ruego que me acerques el ephod. Y Abiathar acercó el ephod á David.
8Y David consultó á Jehová, diciendo: ¿Seguiré esta tropa? ¿podréla alcanzar? Y él le dijo: Síguela, que de cierto la alcanzarás, y sin falta librarás la presa.
9Partióse pues David, él y los seiscientos hombres que con él estaban, y vinieron hasta el torrente de Besor, donde se quedaron algunos.
10Y David siguió el alcance con cuatrocientos hombres; porque se quedaron atrás doscientos, que cansados no pudieron pasar el torrente de Besor.
11Y hallaron en el campo un hombre Egipcio, el cual trajeron á David, y diéronle pan que comiese, y á beber agua;
12Diéronle también un pedazo de masa de higos secos, y dos hilos de pasas. Y luego que comió, volvió en él su espíritu; porque no había comido pan ni bebido agua en tres días y tres noches.
13Y díjole David: ¿De quién eres tú? ¿y de dónde eres? Y respondió el mozo Egipcio: Yo soy siervo de un Amalecita, y dejóme mi amo hoy ha tres días, porque estaba enfermo;
14Pues hicimos una incursión á la parte del mediodía de Cerethi, y á Judá, y al mediodía de Caleb; y pusimos fuego á Siclag.
15Y díjole David: ¿Me llevarás tú á esa tropa? Y él dijo: Hazme juramento por Dios que no me matarás, ni me entregarás en las manos de mi amo, y yo te llevaré á esa gente.
16Llevólo pues: y he aquí que estaban derramados sobre la haz de toda aquella tierra, comiendo y bebiendo y haciendo fiesta, por toda aquella gran presa que habían tomado de la tierra de los Filisteos, y de la tierra de Judá.
17E hiriólos David desde aquella mañana hasta la tarde del día siguiente: y no escapó de ellos ninguno, sino cuatrocientos mancebos, que habían subido en camellos y huyeron.
18Y libró David todo lo que los Amalecitas habían tomado: y asimismo libertó David á sus dos mujeres.
19Y no les faltó cosa chica ni grande, así de hijos como de hijas, del robo, y de todas las cosas que les habían tomado: todo lo recobró David.
20Tomó también David todas las ovejas y ganados mayores; y trayéndolo todo delante, decían: Esta es la presa de David.
21Y vino David á los doscientos hombres que habían quedado cansados y no habían podido seguir á David, á los cuales habían hecho quedar en el torrente de Besor; y ellos salieron á recibir á David, y al pueblo que con él estaba. Y como David llegó á la gente, saludóles con paz.
22Entonces todos los malos y perversos de entre los que habían ido con David, respondieron y dijeron: Pues que no fueron con nosotros, no les daremos de la presa que hemos quitado, sino á cada uno su mujer y sus hijos; los cuales tomen y se vayan.
23Y David dijo: No hagáis eso, hermanos míos, de lo que nos ha dado Jehová; el cual nos ha guardado, y ha entregado en nuestras manos la caterva que vino sobre nosotros.
24¿Y quién os escuchará en este caso? porque igual parte ha de ser la de los que vienen á la batalla, y la de los que quedan con el bagaje: que partan juntamente.
25Y desde aquel día en adelante fué esto puesto por ley y ordenanza en Israel, hasta hoy.
26Y como David llegó á Siclag, envió de la presa á los ancianos de Judá, sus amigos, diciendo: He aquí una bendición para vosotros, de la presa de los enemigos de Jehová.
27A los que estaban en Beth-el, y en Ramoth al mediodía, y á los que estaban en Jattir;
28Y á los que estaban en Aroer, y en Siphmoth, y á los que estaban en Esthemoa;
29Y á los que estaban en Rachâl, y á los que estaban en las ciudades de Jerameel, y á los que estaban en las ciudades del Cineo;
30Y á los que estaban en Horma, y á los que estaban en Chôrasán, y á los que estaban en Athach;
31Y á los que estaban en Hebrón, y en todos los lugares donde David había estado con los suyos.

1And it came to pass, when David and his men were come to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the south, and Ziklag, and smitten Ziklag, and burned it with fire;
2And had taken the women captives, that were therein: they slew not any, either great or small, but carried them away, and went on their way.
3So David and his men came to the city, and, behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were taken captives.
4Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep.
5And David’s two wives were taken captives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.
6And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.
7And David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech’s son, I pray thee, bring me hither the ephod. And Abiathar brought thither the ephod to David.
8And David enquired at the LORD, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all.
9So David went, he and the six hundred men that were with him, and came to the brook Besor, where those that were left behind stayed.
10But David pursued, he and four hundred men: for two hundred abode behind, which were so faint that they could not go over the brook Besor.
11And they found an Egyptian in the field, and brought him to David, and gave him bread, and he did eat; and they made him drink water;
12And they gave him a piece of a cake of figs, and two clusters of raisins: and when he had eaten, his spirit came again to him: for he had eaten no bread, nor drunk any water, three days and three nights.
13And David said unto him, To whom belongest thou? and whence art thou? And he said, I am a young man of Egypt, servant to an Amalekite; and my master left me, because three days agone I fell sick.
14We made an invasion upon the south of the Cherethites, and upon the coast which belongeth to Judah, and upon the south of Caleb; and we burned Ziklag with fire.
15And David said to him, Canst thou bring me down to this company? And he said, Swear unto me by God, that thou wilt neither kill me, nor deliver me into the hands of my master, and I will bring thee down to this company.
16And when he had brought him down, behold, they were spread abroad upon all the earth, eating and drinking, and dancing, because of all the great spoil that they had taken out of the land of the Philistines, and out of the land of Judah.
17And David smote them from the twilight even unto the evening of the next day: and there escaped not a man of them, save four hundred young men, which rode upon camels, and fled.
18And David recovered all that the Amalekites had carried away: and David rescued his two wives.
19And there was nothing lacking to them, neither small nor great, neither sons nor daughters, neither spoil, nor any thing that they had taken to them: David recovered all.
20And David took all the flocks and the herds, which they drave before those other cattle, and said, This is David’s spoil.
21And David came to the two hundred men, which were so faint that they could not follow David, whom they had made also to abide at the brook Besor: and they went forth to meet David, and to meet the people that were with him: and when David came near to the people, he saluted them.
22Then answered all the wicked men and men of Belial, of those that went with David, and said, Because they went not with us, we will not give them ought of the spoil that we have recovered, save to every man his wife and his children, that they may lead them away, and depart.
23Then said David, Ye shall not do so, my brethren, with that which the LORD hath given us, who hath preserved us, and delivered the company that came against us into our hand.
24For who will hearken unto you in this matter? but as his part is that goeth down to the battle, so shall his part be that tarrieth by the stuff: they shall part alike.
25And it was so from that day forward, that he made it a statute and an ordinance for Israel unto this day.
26And when David came to Ziklag, he sent of the spoil unto the elders of Judah, even to his friends, saying, Behold a present for you of the spoil of the enemies of the LORD;
27To them which were in Beth-el, and to them which were in south Ramoth, and to them which were in Jattir,
28And to them which were in Aroer, and to them which were in Siphmoth, and to them which were in Eshtemoa,
29And to them which were in Rachal, and to them which were in the cities of the Jerahmeelites, and to them which were in the cities of the Kenites,
30And to them which were in Hormah, and to them which were in Chor-ashan, and to them which were in Athach,
31And to them which were in Hebron, and to all the places where David himself and his men were wont to haunt.

1When David and his men had come to Ziklag on the third day, the Amalekites had made a raid on the South and on Ziklag, and had struck Ziklag and burned it with fire,
2and had taken captive the women and all who were in it, both small and great. They didn’t kill any, but carried them off and went their way.
3When David and his men came to the city, behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives, their sons, and their daughters were taken captive.
4Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voice and wept until they had no more power to weep.
5David’s two wives were taken captive, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.

15David said to him, “Will you bring me down to this troop?” He said, “Swear to me by God that you will not kill me and not deliver me up into the hands of my master, and I will bring you down to this troop.”
16When he had brought him down, behold, they were spread around over all the ground, eating, drinking, and dancing, because of all the great plunder that they had taken out of the land of the Philistines, and out of the land of Judah.
17David struck them from the twilight even to the evening of the next day. Not a man of them escaped from there, except four hundred young men who rode on camels and fled.
18David recovered all that the Amalekites had taken, and David rescued his two wives.
19There was nothing lacking to them, neither small nor great, neither sons nor daughters, neither plunder, nor anything that they had taken. David brought them all back.
20David took all the flocks and the herds, which they drove before those other livestock, and said, “This is David’s plunder.”
21David came to the two hundred men, who were so faint that they could not follow David, whom also they had made to stay at the brook Besor; and they went out to meet David, and to meet the people who were with him. When David came near to the people, he greeted them.
22Then all the wicked men and worthless fellows of those who went with David answered and said, “Because they didn’t go with us, we will not give them anything of the plunder that we have recovered, except to every man his wife and his children, that he may lead them away and depart.”
23Then David said, “Do not do so, my brothers, with that which the LORD has given to us, who has preserved us, and delivered the troop that came against us into our hand.
24Who will listen to you in this matter? For as his share is who goes down to the battle, so shall his share be who stays with the baggage. They shall share alike.”
25It was so from that day forward that he made it a statute and an ordinance for Israel to this day.
26When David came to Ziklag, he sent some of the plunder to the elders of Judah, even to his friends, saying, “Behold, a present for you from the plunder of the LORD’s enemies.”
27He sent it to those who were in Bethel, to those who were in Ramoth of the South, to those who were in Jattir,
28to those who were in Aroer, to those who were in Siphmoth, to those who were in Eshtemoa,
29to those who were in Racal, to those who were in the cities of the Jerahmeelites, to those who were in the cities of the Kenites,
30to those who were in Hormah, to those who were in Borashan, to those who were in Athach,
31to those who were in Hebron, and to all the places where David himself and his men used to stay.
