1Or on avait fait ce rapport à David, en disant : Voilà, les Philistins font la guerre à Kéhila, et pillent les aires.
2Et David consulta l’Eternel en disant : Irai-je, et frapperai-je ces Philistins-là ? et l’Eternel répondit à David : Va, et tu frapperas les Philistins, et tu délivreras Kéhila.
3Et les gens de David lui dirent : Voici, nous étant ici en Juda avons peur ; que sera-ce donc quand nous serons allés à Kéhila contre les troupes rangées des Philistins ?
4C’est pourquoi David consulta encore l’Eternel, et l’Eternel lui répondit, et dit : Lève-toi, descends à Kéhila, car je m’en vais livrer les Philistins entre tes mains.
5Alors David s’en alla avec ses gens à Kéhila, et combattit contre les Philistins, et emmena leur bétail, et fit un grand carnage des Philistins; ainsi David délivra les habitants de Kéhila.
6Or il était arrivé que quand Abiathar fils d’Ahimélec s’était enfui vers David à Kéhila, l’Ephod lui était tombé entre les mains.
7Et on rapporta à Saül que David était venu à Kéhila ; et Saül dit : Dieu l’a livré entre mes mains ; car il s’est enfermé en entrant dans une ville qui a des portes et des barres.
8Et Saül assembla à cri public tout le peuple pour aller à la guerre, et descendre à Kéhila, afin d’assiéger David et ses gens.
9Mais David ayant su que Saül lui machinait ce mal, dit au Sacrificateur Abiathar : Mets l’Ephod.
10Puis David dit : Ô Eternel ! Dieu d’Israël ! ton serviteur a appris comme une chose certaine, que Saül cherche d’entrer dans Kéhila, pour détruire la ville à cause de moi.
11Les Seigneurs de Kéhila me livreront-ils entre ses mains ? Saül descendra-t-il, comme ton serviteur l’a ouï dire ? Ô Eternel ! Dieu d’Israël ! je te prie, enseigne-le à ton serviteur. Et l’Eternel répondit : Il descendra.
12David dit encore : Les Seigneurs de Kéhila me livreront-ils, moi et mes gens, entre les mains de Saül ? Et l’Eternel répondit : Ils t’y livreront.
13Alors David se leva, et environ six cents hommes avec lui, et ils sortirent de Kéhila, et s’en allèrent où ils purent ; et on rapporta à Saül que David s’était sauvé de Kéhila : c’est pourquoi il cessa de marcher.
14Et David demeura au désert dans des lieux forts, et il se tint en une montagne au désert de Ziph. Et Saül le cherchait tous les jours, mais Dieu ne le livra point entre ses mains.
15David donc ayant vu que Saül était sorti pour chercher sa vie, se tint au désert de Ziph en la forêt.
16Alors Jonathan fils de Saül se leva, et s’en alla en la forêt vers David, et fortifia ses mains en Dieu.
17Et lui dit : Ne crains point ; car Saül mon père ne t’attrapera point, mais tu régneras sur Israël, et moi je serai le second après toi ; et même Saül mon père le sait bien.
18Ils traitèrent donc eux deux alliance devant l’Eternel ; et David demeura dans la forêt, mais Jonathan retourna en sa maison.
19Or les Ziphiens montèrent vers Saül à Guibha, et lui dirent : David ne se tient-il pas caché parmi nous, dans des lieux forts, dans la forêt, au coteau de Hakila, qui est à main droite de Jésimon ?
20Maintenant donc, ô Roi ! si tu souhaites de descendre, descends, et ce sera à nous à le livrer entre les mains du Roi.
21Et Saül dit : Bénis soyez-vous de par l’Eternel, de ce que vous avez eu pitié de moi.
22Allez donc, je vous prie, et préparez toutes choses, et sachez, et reconnaissez le lieu, où il fait sa retraite, et qui l’aura vu là ; car on m’a dit, qu’il est fort rusé.
23Reconnaissez donc et sachez dans laquelle de toutes ces retraites il se tient caché, puis retournez vers moi quand vous en serez assurés, et j’irai avec vous ; et s’il est au pays, je le chercherai soigneusement parmi tous les milliers de Juda.
24Ils se levèrent donc et s’en allèrent à Ziph devant Saül ; mais David et ses gens étaient au désert de Mahon, en la campagne, à main droite de Jésimon.
25Ainsi Saül et ses gens s’en allèrent le chercher ; et on le rapporta à David : et il descendit dans la roche, et demeura au désert de Mahon : ce que Saül ayant appris, il poursuivit David au désert de Mahon.
26Et Saül allait de deçà le côté de la montagne, et David et ses gens allaient de delà, à l’autre côté de la montagne ; et David se hâtait autant qu’il pouvait de s’en aller de devant Saül, mais Saül et ses gens environnèrent David et ses gens pour les prendre.
27Sur cela un messager vint à Saül, en disant : Hâte-toi, et viens, car les Philistins se sont jetés sur le pays.
28Ainsi Saül s’en retourna de la poursuite de David, et s’en alla au devant des Philistins : c’est pourquoi on a appelé ce lieu-là Sélah- hammahlekoth.

1Y DIERON aviso á David, diciendo: He aquí que los Filisteos combaten á Keila, y roban las eras.
2Y David consultó á Jehová, diciendo: ¿Iré á herir á estos Filisteos? Y Jehová respondió á David: Ve, hiere á los Filisteos, y libra á Keila.
3Mas los que estaban con David le dijeron: He aquí que nosotros aquí en Judá estamos con miedo; ¿cuánto más si fuéremos á Keila contra el ejército de los Filisteos?
4Entonces David volvió á consultar á Jehová. Y Jehová le respondió, y dijo: Levántate, desciende á Keila, que yo entregaré en tus manos á los Filisteos.
5Partióse pues David con sus hombres á Keila, y peleó contra los Filisteos, y trajo antecogidos sus ganados, é hiriólos con grande estrago: y libró David á los de Keila.
6Y aconteció que, huyendo Abiathar hijo de Ahimelech á David á Keila, vino también con él el ephod.
7Y fué dicho á Saúl que David había venido á Keila. Entonces dijo Saúl: Dios lo ha traído á mis manos; porque él está encerrado, habiéndose metido en ciudad con puertas y cerraduras.
8Y convocó Saúl todo el pueblo á la batalla, para descender á Keila, y poner cerco á David y á los suyos.
9Mas entendiendo David que Saúl ideaba el mal contra él, dijo á Abiathar sacerdote: Trae el ephod.
10Y dijo David: Jehová Dios de Israel, tu siervo tiene entendido que Saúl trata de venir contra Keila, á destruir la ciudad por causa mía.
11¿Me entregarán los vecinos de Keila en sus manos? ¿descenderá Saúl, como tu siervo tiene oído? Jehová Dios de Israel, ruégote que lo declares á tu siervo. Y Jehová dijo: Sí, descenderá.
12Dijo luego David: ¿Me entregarán los vecinos de Keila á mí y á mis hombres en manos de Saúl? Y Jehová respondió: Te entregarán.
13David entonces se levantó con sus hombres, que eran como seiscientos, y saliéronse de Keila, y fuéronse de una parte á otra. Y vino la nueva á Saúl de como David se había escapado de Keila; y dejó de salir.
14Y David se estaba en el desierto en peñas, y habitaba en un monte en el desierto de Ziph; y buscábalo Saúl todos los días, mas Dios no lo entregó en sus manos.
15Viendo pues David que Saúl había salido en busca de su alma, estábase él en el bosque en el desierto de Ziph.
16Entonces se levantó Jonathán hijo de Saúl, y vino á David en el bosque, y confortó su mano en Dios.
17Y díjole: No temas, que no te hallará la mano de Saúl mi padre, y tú reinarás sobre Israel, y yo seré segundo después de ti; y aun Saúl mi padre así lo sabe.
18Y entrambos hicieron alianza delante de Jehová: y David se quedó en el bosque, y Jonathán se volvió á su casa.
19Y subieron los de Ziph á decir á Saúl en Gabaa: ¿No está David escondido en nuestra tierra en las peñas del bosque, en el collado de Hachîla que está á la mano derecha del desierto?
20Por tanto, rey, desciende ahora presto, según todo el deseo de tu alma, y nosotros lo entregaremos en la mano del rey.
21Y Saúl dijo: Benditos seáis vosotros de Jehová, que habéis tenido compasión de mí:
22Id pues ahora, apercibid aún, considerad y ved su lugar donde tiene el pie, y quién lo haya visto allí; porque se me ha dicho que él es en gran manera astuto.
23Considerad pues, y ved todos los escondrijos donde se oculta, y volved á mí con la certidumbre, y yo iré con vosotros: que si él estuviere en la tierra, yo le buscaré entre todos los millares de Judá.
24Y ellos se levantaron, y se fueron á Ziph delante de Saúl. Mas David y su gente estaban en el desierto de Maón, en la llanura que está á la diestra del desierto.
25Y partióse Saúl con su gente á buscarlo; pero fué dado aviso á David, y descendió á la peña, y quedóse en el desierto de Maón. Lo cual como Saúl oyó, siguió á David al desierto de Maón.
26Y Saúl iba por el un lado del monte, y David con los suyos por el otro lado del monte: y dábase priesa David para ir delante de Saúl; mas Saúl y los suyos habían encerrado á David y á su gente para tomarlos.
27Entonces vino un mensajero á Saúl, diciendo: Ven luego, porque los Filisteos han hecho una irrupción en el país.
28Volvióse por tanto Saúl de perseguir á David, y partió contra los Filisteos. Por esta causa pusieron á aquel lugar por nombre Sela-hammah-lecoth.

1Then they told David, saying, Behold, the Philistines fight against Keilah, and they rob the threshingfloors.
2Therefore David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the LORD said unto David, Go, and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah.
3And David’s men said unto him, Behold, we be afraid here in Judah: how much more then if we come to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?
4Then David enquired of the LORD yet again. And the LORD answered him and said, Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into thine hand.
5So David and his men went to Keilah, and fought with the Philistines, and brought away their cattle, and smote them with a great slaughter. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.
6And it came to pass, when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David to Keilah, that he came down with an ephod in his hand.
7And it was told Saul that David was come to Keilah. And Saul said, God hath delivered him into mine hand; for he is shut in, by entering into a town that hath gates and bars.
8And Saul called all the people together to war, to go down to Keilah, to besiege David and his men.
9And David knew that Saul secretly practised mischief against him; and he said to Abiathar the priest, Bring hither the ephod.
10Then said David, O LORD God of Israel, thy servant hath certainly heard that Saul seeketh to come to Keilah, to destroy the city for my sake.
11Will the men of Keilah deliver me up into his hand? will Saul come down, as thy servant hath heard? O LORD God of Israel, I beseech thee, tell thy servant. And the LORD said, He will come down.
12Then said David, Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul? And the LORD said, They will deliver thee up.
13Then David and his men, which were about six hundred, arose and departed out of Keilah, and went whithersoever they could go. And it was told Saul that David was escaped from Keilah; and he forbare to go forth.
14And David abode in the wilderness in strong holds, and remained in a mountain in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God delivered him not into his hand.
15And David saw that Saul was come out to seek his life: and David was in the wilderness of Ziph in a wood.
16And Jonathan Saul’s son arose, and went to David into the wood, and strengthened his hand in God.
17And he said unto him, Fear not: for the hand of Saul my father shall not find thee; and thou shalt be king over Israel, and I shall be next unto thee; and that also Saul my father knoweth.
18And they two made a covenant before the LORD: and David abode in the wood, and Jonathan went to his house.
19Then came up the Ziphites to Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doth not David hide himself with us in strong holds in the wood, in the hill of Hachilah, which is on the south of Jeshimon?
20Now therefore, O king, come down according to all the desire of thy soul to come down; and our part shall be to deliver him into the king’s hand.
21And Saul said, Blessed be ye of the LORD; for ye have compassion on me.
22Go, I pray you, prepare yet, and know and see his place where his haunt is, and who hath seen him there: for it is told me that he dealeth very subtilly.
23See therefore, and take knowledge of all the lurking places where he hideth himself, and come ye again to me with the certainty, and I will go with you: and it shall come to pass, if he be in the land, that I will search him out throughout all the thousands of Judah.
24And they arose, and went to Ziph before Saul: but David and his men were in the wilderness of Maon, in the plain on the south of Jeshimon.
25Saul also and his men went to seek him. And they told David: wherefore he came down into a rock, and abode in the wilderness of Maon. And when Saul heard that, he pursued after David in the wilderness of Maon.
26And Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain: and David made haste to get away for fear of Saul; for Saul and his men compassed David and his men round about to take them.
27But there came a messenger unto Saul, saying, Haste thee, and come; for the Philistines have invaded the land.
28Wherefore Saul returned from pursuing after David, and went against the Philistines: therefore they called that place Sela-hammahlekoth.
29And David went up from thence, and dwelt in strong holds at En-gedi.
World English Bible
1David was told, “Behold, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah, and are robbing the threshing floors.”
2Therefore David inquired of the LORD, saying, “Shall I go and strike these Philistines?” The LORD said to David, “Go strike the Philistines, and save Keilah.”
3David’s men said to him, “Behold, we are afraid here in Judah. How much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?”
4Then David inquired of the LORD yet again. The LORD answered him, and said, “Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into your hand.”
5David and his men went to Keilah and fought with the Philistines, and brought away their livestock, and killed them with a great slaughter. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.
6When Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David to Keilah, he came down with an ephod in his hand.

11Will the men of Keilah deliver me up into his hand? Will Saul come down, as your servant has heard? LORD, the God of Israel, I beg you, tell your servant.” The LORD said, “He will come down.”
12Then David said, “Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul?” The LORD said, “They will deliver you up.”
13Then David and his men, who were about six hundred, arose and departed out of Keilah and went wherever they could go. Saul was told that David had escaped from Keilah; and he gave up going there.
14David stayed in the wilderness in the strongholds, and remained in the hill country in the wilderness of Ziph. Saul sought him every day, but God didn’t deliver him into his hand.

21Saul said, “You are blessed by the LORD, for you have had compassion on me.
22Please go make yet more sure, and know and see his place where his haunt is, and who has seen him there; for I have been told that he is very cunning.
23See therefore, and take knowledge of all the lurking places where he hides himself; and come again to me with certainty, and I will go with you. It shall happen, if he is in the land, that I will search him out among all the thousands of Judah.”
24They arose, and went to Ziph before Saul; but David and his men were in the wilderness of Maon, in the Arabah on the south of the desert.
25Saul and his men went to seek him. When David was told, he went down to the rock, and stayed in the wilderness of Maon. When Saul heard that, he pursued David in the wilderness of Maon.
26Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain; and David hurried to get away for fear of Saul, for Saul and his men surrounded David and his men to take them.
27But a messenger came to Saul, saying, “Hurry and come, for the Philistines have made a raid on the land!”
28So Saul returned from pursuing David, and went against the Philistines. Therefore they called that place Sela Hammahlekoth.
29David went up from there and lived in the strongholds of En Gedi.
