1Después de que David terminó de hablar con Saúl, Jonatán se hizo gran amigo de David. Amaba a David como a sí mismo.
2Desde entonces, Jonatán hizo que David trabajara para él y no lo dejó volver a su casa.
3Jonatán hizo un acuerdo solemne con David porque lo amaba como a sí mismo.
4Jonatán se quitó la túnica que llevaba puesta y se la dio a David, junto con su túnica, su espada, su arco y su cinturón.
5David tenían éxito al hacer todo lo que Saúl le pedía, así que Saúl lo nombró oficial del ejército. Esto complació a todos, incluso a los demás oficiales de Saúl.
6Cuando los soldados regresaron a casa después de que David había matado al filisteo, las mujeres de todos los pueblos de Israel salieron cantando y bailando al encuentro del rey Saúl, celebrando alegremente con panderetas e instrumentos musicales.
7Mientras bailaban, las mujeres cantaban: “Saúl ha matado a sus miles, y David a sus decenas de miles”.
8Lo que cantaban enojó mucho a Saúl, pues no le pareció bien. Se dijo a sí mismo: “A David le han dado el crédito de haber matado a decenas de miles, pero a mí sólo a miles. Lo único que falta es darle el reino”.
9Desde entonces Saúl miró a David con recelo.
10Al día siguiente, un espíritu maligno de Dios se apoderó de Saúl con fuerza, y despotricó dentro de la casa mientras David tocaba el arpa como lo hacía habitualmente. Resulta que Saúl tenía una lanza en la mano,
11y se la lanzó a David, mientras pensaba: “Clavaré a David en la pared”. Pero David logró escapar de él dos veces.
12Saúl tenía miedo de David, porque el Señor estaba con él, pero se había rendido ante Saúl.
13Así que Saúl despidió a David y lo nombró comandante de mil soldados, dirigiéndolos de ida y vuelta como parte del ejército.
14David siguió teniendo mucho éxito en todo lo que hacía, porque el Señor estaba con él.
15Cuando Saúl vio el éxito de David, le tuvo aún más miedo.
16Pero todos en Israel y en Judá amaban a David, por su liderazgo en el ejército.
17Un día Saúl le dijo a David: “Aquí está mi hija mayor, Merab. Te la daré en matrimonio, pero sólo si me demuestras que eres un guerrero valiente y luchas en las batallas del Señor”. Porque Saúl pensaba: “No hace falta que sea yo quien lo mate; que lo hagan los filisteos”.
18“Pero, ¿quién soy yo, y qué categoría tiene mi familia en Israel, para que me convierta en yerno del rey?” respondió David.
19Sin embargo, cuando llegó el momento de entregar a Merab, la hija de Saúl, a David, ésta fue dada en matrimonio a Adriel de Meholá en su lugar.
20Mientras tanto, la hija de Saúl, Mical, se había enamorado de David, y cuando se lo dijeron a Saúl, se alegró de ello.
21“Se la daré a David”, pensó Saúl. “Ella puede ser la carnada para que los filisteos lo atrapen”. Entonces Saúl le dijo a David: “Esta es la segunda vez que puedes ser mi yerno”.
22Saúl les dio estas instrucciones a sus siervos: “Hablen con David en privado y díganle: ‘Mira, el rey está muy contento contigo y todos te queremos. ¿Por qué no te conviertes en el yerno del rey?’”
23Los sirvientes de Saúl hablaron en privado con David, pero él respondió: “¿Creen que no es nada hacerse yerno del rey? Soy un hombre pobre y no soy importante”.
24Cuando los sirvientes de Saúl le explicaron lo que David había dicho,
25Saúl les dijo: “Díganle a David que la única dote que el rey quiere para la novia son cien prepucios de filisteos muertos, como forma de vengarse de sus enemigos”. El plan de Saúl era hacer que los filisteos mataran a David.
26Cuando los sirvientes le informaron a David de lo que el rey había dicho, éste se alegró de ser el yerno del rey. Mientras había tiempo,
27David partió con sus hombres y mató a doscientos filisteos, y trajo sus prepucios. Los contaron todos ante el rey para que David se convirtiera en yerno del rey. Entonces Saúl le dio a su hija Mical en matrimonio.
28Saúl se dio cuenta de que el Señor estaba con David y de que su hija Mical estaba enamorada de David,
29por lo que se volvió aún más temeroso de David, y fue enemigo de éste por el resto de su vida.
30Cada vez que los comandantes filisteos atacaban, David tenía más éxito en la batalla que todos los oficiales de Saúl, por lo que su fama se extendió rápidamente.

1Y ASÍ que él hubo acabado de hablar con Saúl, el alma de Jonathán fué ligada con la de David, y amólo Jonathán como á su alma.
2Y Saúl le tomó aquel día, y no le dejó volver á casa de su padre.
3E hicieron alianza Jonathán y David, porque él le amaba como á su alma.
4Y Jonathán se desnudó la ropa que tenía sobre sí, y dióla á David, y otras ropas suyas, hasta su espada, y su arco, y su talabarte.
5Y salía David á donde quiera que Saúl le enviaba, y portábase prudentemente. Hízolo por tanto Saúl capitán de gente de guerra, y era acepto en los ojos de todo el pueblo, y en los ojos de los criados de Saúl.
6Y aconteció que como volvían ellos, cuando David tornó de matar al Filisteo, salieron las mujeres de todas las ciudades de Israel cantando, y con danzas, con tamboriles, y con alegrías y sonajas, á recibir al rey Saúl.
7Y cantaban las mujeres que danzaba, y decían: Saúl hirió sus miles, y David sus diez miles.
8Y enojóse Saúl en gran manera, y desagradó esta palabra en sus ojos, y dijo: A David dieron diez miles, y á mí miles; no le falta más que el reino.
9Y desde aquel día Saúl miró de través á David.
10Otro día aconteció que el espíritu malo de parte de Dios tomó á Saúl, y mostrábase en su casa con trasportes de profeta: y David tañía con su mano como los otros días; y estaba una lanza á mano de Saúl.
11Y arrojó Saúl la lanza, diciendo: Enclavaré á David en la pared. Y dos veces se apartó de él David.
12Mas Saúl se temía de David, por cuanto Jehová era con él, y se había apartado de Saúl.
13Apartólo pues Saúl de sí, é hízole capitán de mil; y salía y entraba delante del pueblo.
14Y David se conducía prudentemente en todos sus negocios, y Jehová era con él.
15Y viendo Saúl que se portaba tan prudentemente, temíase de él.
16Mas todo Israel y Judá amaba á David, porque él salía y entraba delante de ellos.
17Y dijo Saúl á David: He aquí yo te daré á Merab mi hija mayor por mujer: solamente que me seas hombre valiente, y hagas las guerras de Jehová. Mas Saúl decía: No será mi mano contra él, mas la mano de los Filisteos será contra él.
18Y David respondió á Saúl: ¿Quién soy yo, ó qué es mi vida, ó la familia de mi padre en Israel, para ser yerno del rey?
19Y venido el tiempo en que Merab, hija de Saúl, se había de dar á David, fué dada por mujer á Adriel Meholatita.
20Mas Michâl la otra hija de Saúl amaba á David; y fué dicho á Saúl, lo cual plugo en sus ojos.
21Y Saúl dijo: Yo se la daré, para que le sea por lazo, y para que la mano de los Filisteos sea contra él. Dijo pues Saúl á David: Con la otra serás mi yerno hoy.
22Y mandó Saúl á sus criados: Hablad en secreto á David, diciéndole: He aquí, el rey te ama, y todos sus criados te quieren bien; sé pues yerno del rey.
23Y los criados de Saúl hablaron estas palabras á los oídos de David. Y David dijo: ¿Paréceos á vosotros que es poco ser yerno del rey, siendo yo un hombre pobre y de ninguna estima?
24Y los criados de Saúl le dieron la respuesta diciendo: Tales palabras ha dicho David.
25Y Saúl dijo: Decid así á David: No está el contentamiento del rey en el dote, sino en cien prepucios de Filisteos, para que sea tomada venganza de los enemigos del rey. Mas Saúl pensaba echar á David en manos de los Filisteos.
26Y como sus criados declararon á David estas palabras, plugo la cosa en los ojos de David, para ser yerno del rey. Y como el plazo no era aún cumplido,
27Levantóse David, y partióse con su gente, é hirió doscientos hombres de los Filisteos; y trajo David los prepucios de ellos, y entregáronlos todos al rey, para que él fuese hecho yerno del rey. Y Saúl le dió á su hija Michâl por mujer.
28Pero Saúl, viendo y considerando que Jehová era con David, y que su hija Michâl lo amaba,
29Temióse más de David; y fué Saúl enemigo de David todos los días.
30Y salían los príncipes de los Filisteos; y como ellos salían, portábase David más prudentemente que todos los siervos de Saúl: y era su nombre muy ilustre.

1And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.
2And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father’s house.
3Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.
4And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.
5And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.
6And it came to pass as they came, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of musick.
7And the women answered one another as they played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.
8And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can he have more but the kingdom?
9And Saul eyed David from that day and forward.
10And it came to pass on the morrow, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other times: and there was a javelin in Saul’s hand.
11And Saul cast the javelin; for he said, I will smite David even to the wall with it. And David avoided out of his presence twice.
12And Saul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with him, and was departed from Saul.
13Therefore Saul removed him from him, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people.
14And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the LORD was with him.
15Wherefore when Saul saw that he behaved himself very wisely, he was afraid of him.
16But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out and came in before them.
17And Saul said to David, Behold my elder daughter Merab, her will I give thee to wife: only be thou valiant for me, and fight the LORD’s battles. For Saul said, Let not mine hand be upon him, but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him.
18And David said unto Saul, Who am I? and what is my life, or my father’s family in Israel, that I should be son in law to the king?
19But it came to pass at the time when Merab Saul’s daughter should have been given to David, that she was given unto Adriel the Meholathite to wife.
20And Michal Saul’s daughter loved David: and they told Saul, and the thing pleased him.
21And Saul said, I will give him her, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Wherefore Saul said to David, Thou shalt this day be my son in law in the one of the twain.
22And Saul commanded his servants, saying, Commune with David secretly, and say, Behold, the king hath delight in thee, and all his servants love thee: now therefore be the king’s son in law.
23And Saul’s servants spake those words in the ears of David. And David said, Seemeth it to you a light thing to be a king’s son in law, seeing that I am a poor man, and lightly esteemed?
24And the servants of Saul told him, saying, On this manner spake David.
25And Saul said, Thus shall ye say to David, The king desireth not any dowry, but an hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king’s enemies. But Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.
26And when his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king’s son in law: and the days were not expired.
27Wherefore David arose and went, he and his men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full tale to the king, that he might be the king’s son in law. And Saul gave him Michal his daughter to wife.
28And Saul saw and knew that the LORD was with David, and that Michal Saul’s daughter loved him.
29And Saul was yet the more afraid of David; and Saul became David’s enemy continually.
30Then the princes of the Philistines went forth: and it came to pass, after they went forth, that David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul; so that his name was much set by.

1When he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.
2Saul took him that day, and wouldn’t let him go home to his father’s house any more.
3Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.
4Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was on him and gave it to David with his clothing, even including his sword, his bow, and his sash.
5David went out wherever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely; and Saul set him over the men of war. It was good in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.
6As they came, when David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet King Saul with tambourines, with joy, and with instruments of music.
7The women sang to one another as they played, and said, “Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.”
8Saul was very angry, and this saying displeased him. He said, “They have credited David with ten thousands, and they have only credited me with thousands. What can he have more but the kingdom?”
9Saul watched David from that day and forward.
10On the next day, an evil spirit from God came mightily on Saul, and he prophesied in the middle of the house. David played with his hand, as he did day by day. Saul had his spear in his hand;
11and Saul threw the spear, for he said, “I will pin David to the wall!” David escaped from his presence twice.
12Saul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with him, and had departed from Saul.
13Therefore Saul removed him from his presence, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people.
14David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the LORD was with him.
15When Saul saw that he behaved himself very wisely, he stood in awe of him.
16But all Israel and Judah loved David; for he went out and came in before them.
17Saul said to David, “Behold, my elder daughter Merab. I will give her to you as wife. Only be valiant for me, and fight the LORD’s battles.” For Saul said, “Don’t let my hand be on him, but let the hand of the Philistines be on him.”
18David said to Saul, “Who am I, and what is my life, or my father’s family in Israel, that I should be son-in-law to the king?”

20Michal, Saul’s daughter, loved David; and they told Saul, and the thing pleased him.

23Saul’s servants spoke those words in the ears of David. David said, “Does it seem to you a light thing to be the king’s son-in-law, since I am a poor man and little known?”
24The servants of Saul told him, saying, “David spoke like this.”
25Saul said, “Tell David, ‘The king desires no dowry except one hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king’s enemies.’” Now Saul thought he would make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.
26When his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king’s son-in-law. Before the deadline,
27David arose and went, he and his men, and killed two hundred men of the Philistines. Then David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full number to the king, that he might be the king’s son-in-law. Then Saul gave him Michal his daughter as wife.
28Saul saw and knew that the LORD was with David; and Michal, Saul’s daughter, loved him.
29Saul was even more afraid of David; and Saul was David’s enemy continually.
30Then the princes of the Philistines went out; and as often as they went out, David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul, so that his name was highly esteemed.
