1And the son of Ader gathered all his forces, and went up and besieged Samaria, he and thirty-two kings with him, and all his horse and Gr. chariot chariots: and they went up and besieged Samaria, and fought against it.
2And he sent into the city to Achaab king of Israel, and said to him, Thus says the son of Ader,
3Thy silver and thy gold are mine, and thy wives and thy children are mine.
4And the king of Israel answered and said, As thou hast said, my lord, O king, I am thine, and all mine also.
5And the messengers came again, and said, Thus says the son of Ader, I sent to thee, saying, Thou shalt give me thy silver and thy gold, and thy wives and thy children.
6For at this time to-morrow I will send my servants to thee, and they shall search thy house, and the houses of thy servants, and it shall be that all the desirable objects of their eyes on which they shall lay their hands, they shall even take them.
7And the king of Israel called all the elders of the land, and said, Take notice now and consider, that this man seeks mischief: for he has sent to me concerning my wives, and concerning my sons, and concerning my daughters: I have not kept back from him my silver and my gold.
8And the elders and all the people said to him, Hearken not, and consent not.
9And he said to the messengers of the son of Ader, Say to your master, All things that thou hast sent to thy servant about at first I will do; but this thing I shall not be able to do. And the men departed, and carried back the answer to him.
10And the son of Ader sent to him, saying, So do God to me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for The LXX read Mylewv for Mylev foxes to all the people, even my infantry.
11And the king of Israel answered and said, Let it be sufficient; let not the humpbacked boast as he that is upright.
12And it came to pass when he returned him this answer, he and all the kings with him were drinking in tents: and he said to his servants, Or, build a mound or fortification Form a trench. And they made a trench against the city.
13And, behold, a prophet came to Achaab king of Israel, and said, Thus saith the Lord, Hast thou seen this great multitude? behold, I give it this day into thine hands; and thou shalt know that I am the Lord.
14And Achaab said, Whereby? And he said, Thus saith the Lord, by the young men of the heads of the districts. And Achaab said, Who shall Gr. engage in the war begin the battle? and he said, Thou.
15And Achaab Or, reviewed numbered the young men the heads of the districts, and they were two hundred and thirty: and afterwards he numbered the people, even every Gr. son of strength man fit for war, seven thousand.
16And he went forth at noon, and the son of Ader was drinking and getting drunk in Socchoth, he and the kings, even thirty and two kings, his allies.
17And the young men the heads of the districts went forth Gr. among the first first; and they send and report to the king of Syria, saying, There are men come forth out of Samaria.
18And he said to them, If they come forth peaceably, Gr. infin. for imper. take them alive; and if they come forth to war, take them alive:
19and let not the young men the heads of the districts go forth of the city. And the force that was behind them
20smote each one the man next to him; and each one a second time smote the man next to him: and Syria fled, and Israel pursued them; and the son of Ader, even the king of Syria, escapes on the horse of a horseman.
21And the king of Israel went forth, and took all the horses and the chariots, and smote the enemy with a great slaughter in Syria.
22And the prophet came to the king of Israel, and said, Strengthen thyself, and observe, and see what thou shalt do; for at the return of the year the son of Ader king of Syria comes up against thee.
23And the servants of the king of Syria, even they said, The God of Israel is a God of mountains, and not a God of valleys; therefore has he prevailed against us: but if we should fight against them in the plain, verily we shall prevail against them.
24And do thou this thing: Send away the kings, each one to his place, and set princes in their stead.
25And we will Gr. change give thee another army according to the army that was destroyed, and cavalry according to the cavalry, and chariots according to the chariots, and we will fight against them in the plain, and we shall prevail against them. And he hearkened to Gr. his their voice, and did so.
26And it came to pass at the return of the year, that the son of Ader reviewed Syria, and went up to Apheca to war against Israel.
27And the children of Israel were numbered, and came to meet them: and Israel encamped before them as two little flocks of goats, but Syria filled the land.
28And there came the man of God, and said to the king of Israel, Thus saith the Lord, Because Syria has said, The Lord God of Israel is a God of the hills, and he is not a God of the valleys, therefore will I give this great army into thy hand, and thou shalt know that I am the Lord.
29And they encamp one over against the other before them Gr. these seven days. And it came to pass on the seventh day that the battle drew on, and Israel smote Syria, even a hundred thousand footmen in one day.
30And the rest fled to Apheca, into the city; and the wall fell upon twenty-seven thousand men that were left: and the son of Ader fled, and entered into Gr. the house of the chamber an inner chamber, into a closet.
31And he said to his servants, I know that the kings of Israel are Gr. kings of mercy merciful kings: let us now put sackcloth upon our loins, and ropes upon our heads, and let us go forth to the king of Israel, if by any means he will save our souls alive.
32So they girt sackcloth upon their loins, and put ropes upon their heads, and said to the king of Israel, Thy servant the son of Ader says, Let our Gr. soul souls live, I pray thee. And he said, Does he yet live? He is my brother.
33And the men divined, and Or, poured libations, but some read espeusan, which answers exactly to the Hebrew offered drink-offerings; and they caught the word out of his mouth, and said, Thy brother the son of Ader. And he said, Go ye in and fetch him. And the son of Ader went out to him, and they cause him to go up to him Gr. upon or to into the chariot.
34And he said to him, The cities which my father took from thy father I will restore to thee; and thou shalt make streets for thyself in Damascus, as my father made streets in Samaria; and I will let thee go with a covenant. And he made a covenant with him, and let him go.
35And Gr. one man a certain man of the sons of the prophets said to his neighbour by the word of the Lord, Smite me, I pray, And the man would not smite him.
36And he said to him, Because thou hast not hearkened to the voice of the Lord, therefore, behold, as thou departest from me, a lion shall smite thee: and he departed from him, and a lion found him, and smote him.
37And he finds another man, and says, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man smote him, and Gr. having smitten in smiting wounded him.
38And the prophet went and stood before the king of Israel by the way, and bound his eyes with a bandage.
39And it came to pass as the king passed by, that he cried aloud to the king, and said, Thy servant went out to Gr. the army of war war, and, behold, a man brought another man to me, and said to me, Keep his man; and if he should by any means escape, then thy Gr. soul life shall go for his life, or thou shalt pay a talent of silver.
40And it came to pass, that thy servant looked round this way and that way, and Gr. he was not the man was gone. And the king of Israel said to him, Behold, thou hast also Gr. slain destroyed snares set for me.
41And he hasted, and took away the bandage from his eyes; and the king of Israel recognized him, that he was one of the prophets.
42And he said to him, Thus saith the Lord, Because thou hast suffered to escape out of thine hand a man appointed to destruction, therefore thy life shall go for his life, and thy people for his people.
43And the king of Israel departed confounded and discouraged, and came to Samaria.

1PASADOS estos negocios, aconteció que Naboth de Jezreel tenía en Jezreel una viña junto al palacio de Achâb rey de Samaria.
2Y Achâb habló á Naboth, diciendo: Dame tu viña para un huerto de legumbres, porque está cercana, junto á mi casa, y yo te daré por ella otra viña mejor que esta; ó si mejor te pareciere, te pagaré su valor en dinero.
3Y Naboth respondió á Achâb: Guárdeme Jehová de que yo te dé á ti la heredad de mis padres.
4Y vínose Achâb á su casa triste y enojado, por la palabra que Naboth de Jezreel le había respondido, diciendo: No te daré la heredad de mis padres. Y acostóse en su cama, y volvió su rostro, y no comió pan.
5Y vino á él su mujer Jezabel, y díjole: ¿Por qué está tan triste tu espíritu, y no comes pan?
6Y él respondió: Porque hablé con Naboth de Jezreel, y díjele que me diera su viña por dinero, ó que, si más quería, le daría otra viña por ella; y él respondió: Yo no te daré mi viña.
7Y su mujer Jezabel le dijo: ¿Eres tú ahora rey sobre Israel? Levántate, y come pan, y alégrate: yo te daré la viña de Naboth de Jezreel.
8Entonces ella escribió cartas en nombre de Achâb, y sellólas con su anillo y enviólas á los ancianos y á los principales que moraban en su ciudad con Naboth.
9Y las cartas que escribió decían así: Proclamad ayuno, y poned á Naboth á la cabecera del pueblo;
10Y poned dos hombres perversos delante de él, que atestigüen contra él, y digan: Tú has blasfemado á Dios y al rey. Y entonces sacadlo, y apedreadlo, y muera.
11Y los de su ciudad, los ancianos y los principales que moraban en su ciudad, lo hicieron como Jezabel les mandó, conforme á lo escrito en las cartas que ella les había enviado.
12Y promulgaron ayuno, y asentaron á Naboth á la cabecera del pueblo.
13Vinieron entonces dos hombres perversos, y sentáronse delante de él: y aquellos hombres de Belial atestiguaron contra Naboth delante del pueblo, diciendo: Naboth ha blasfemado á Dios y al rey. Y sacáronlo fuera de la ciudad, y apedreáronlo con piedras, y murió.
14Después enviaron á decir á Jezabel: Naboth ha sido apedreado y muerto.
15Y como Jezabel oyó que Naboth había sido apedreado y muerto, dijo á Achâb: Levántate y posee la viña de Naboth de Jezreel, que no te la quiso dar por dinero; porque Naboth no vive, sino que es muerto.
16Y oyendo Achâb que Naboth era muerto, levantóse para descender á la viña de Naboth de Jezreel, para tomar posesión de ella.
17Entonces fué palabra de Jehová á Elías Thisbita, diciendo:
18Levántate, desciende á encontrarte con Achâb rey de Israel, que está en Samaria: he aquí él está en la viña de Naboth, á la cual ha descendido para tomar posesión de ella.
19Y hablarle has, diciendo: Así ha dicho Jehová: ¿No mataste y también has poseído? Y tornarás á hablarle, diciendo: Así ha dicho Jehová: En el mismo lugar donde lamieron los perros la sangre de Naboth, los perros lamerán también tu sangre, la tuya misma.
20Y Achâb dijo á Elías: ¿Me has hallado, enemigo mío? Y él respondió: Hete encontrado, porque te has vendido á mal hacer delante de Jehová.
21He aquí yo traigo mal sobre ti, y barreré tu posteridad, y talaré de Achâb todo meante á la pared, al guardado y al desamparado en Israel:
22Y yo pondré tu casa como la casa de Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, y como la casa de Baasa hijo de Ahía; por la provocación con que me provocaste á ira, y con que has hecho pecar á Israel.
23De Jezabel también ha hablado Jehová, diciendo: Los perros comerán á Jezabel en la barbacana de Jezreel.
24El que de Achâb fuere muerto en la ciudad, perros le comerán: y el que fuere muerto en el campo, comerlo han las aves del cielo.
25(A la verdad ninguno fué como Achâb, que se vendiese á hacer lo malo á los ojos de Jehová; porque Jezabel su mujer lo incitaba.
26El fué en grande manera abominable, caminando en pos de los ídolos, conforme á todo lo que hicieron los Amorrheos, á los cuales lanzó Jehová delante de los hijos de Israel.)
27Y acaeció cuando Achâb oyó estas palabras, que rasgó sus vestidos, y puso saco sobre su carne, y ayunó, y durmió en saco, y anduvo humillado.
28Entonces fué palabra de Jehová á Elías Thisbita, diciendo:
29¿No has visto como Achâb se ha humillado delante de mí? Pues por cuanto se ha humillado delante de mí, no traeré el mal en sus días: en los días de su hijo traeré el mal sobre su casa.

1And it came to pass after these things, that Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard, which was in Jezreel, hard by the palace of Ahab king of Samaria.
2And Ahab spake unto Naboth, saying, Give me thy vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, because it is near unto my house: and I will give thee for it a better vineyard than it; or, if it seem good to thee, I will give thee the worth of it in money.
3And Naboth said to Ahab, The LORD forbid it me, that I should give the inheritance of my fathers unto thee.
4And Ahab came into his house heavy and displeased because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him: for he had said, I will not give thee the inheritance of my fathers. And he laid him down upon his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.
5But Jezebel his wife came to him, and said unto him, Why is thy spirit so sad, that thou eatest no bread?
6And he said unto her, Because I spake unto Naboth the Jezreelite, and said unto him, Give me thy vineyard for money; or else, if it please thee, I will give thee another vineyard for it: and he answered, I will not give thee my vineyard.
7And Jezebel his wife said unto him, Dost thou now govern the kingdom of Israel? arise, and eat bread, and let thine heart be merry: I will give thee the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.
8So she wrote letters in Ahab’s name, and sealed them with his seal, and sent the letters unto the elders and to the nobles that were in his city, dwelling with Naboth.

12They proclaimed a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people.

20And Ahab said to Elijah, Hast thou found me, O mine enemy? And he answered, I have found thee: because thou hast sold thyself to work evil in the sight of the LORD.
21Behold, I will bring evil upon thee, and will take away thy posterity, and will cut off from Ahab him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel,
22And will make thine house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, for the provocation wherewith thou hast provoked me to anger, and made Israel to sin.
23And of Jezebel also spake the LORD, saying, The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel.
24Him that dieth of Ahab in the city the dogs shall eat; and him that dieth in the field shall the fowls of the air eat.
25But there was none like unto Ahab, which did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight of the LORD, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up.

27And it came to pass, when Ahab heard those words, that he rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly.

29Seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days: but in his son’s days will I bring the evil upon his house.

1After these things, Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard which was in Jezreel, next to the palace of Ahab king of Samaria.
2Ahab spoke to Naboth, saying, “Give me your vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, because it is near my house; and I will give you for it a better vineyard than it. Or, if it seems good to you, I will give you its worth in money.”
3Naboth said to Ahab, “May the LORD forbid me, that I should give the inheritance of my fathers to you!”
4Ahab came into his house sullen and angry because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him, for he had said, “I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers.” He laid himself down on his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.
5But Jezebel his wife came to him, and said to him, “Why is your spirit so sad that you eat no bread?”
6He said to her, “Because I spoke to Naboth the Jezreelite, and said to him, ‘Give me your vineyard for money; or else, if it pleases you, I will give you another vineyard for it.’ He answered, ‘I will not give you my vineyard.’”

20Ahab said to Elijah, “Have you found me, my enemy?” He answered, “I have found you, because you have sold yourself to do that which is evil in the LORD’s sight.
21Behold, I will bring evil on you, and will utterly sweep you away and will cut off from Ahab everyone who urinates against a wall, and him who is shut up and him who is left at large in Israel.
22I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, for the provocation with which you have provoked me to anger, and have made Israel to sin.”
23The LORD also spoke of Jezebel, saying, “The dogs will eat Jezebel by the rampart of Jezreel.
