1Et Élie, de Thisbé, l'un des domiciliés de Galaad, dit à Achab : Par la vie de l'Éternel, Dieu d'Israël, aux ordres de qui je suis, il n y aura durant ces années-ni rosée, ni pluie, sinon à ma voix.
2Et la parole de l'Éternel lui fut adressée en ces termes :
3Va-t'en d'ici et dirige-toi vers l'Orient, et cache-toi dans le ravin du Krith qui est en face du Jourdain.
4Et le torrent te fournira ton breuvage, et j'ai commandé aux corbeaux de t'y nourrir.
5Et Élie partit et se conforma à la parole de l'Éternel, et il alla s'établir dans le ravin du Krith qui est en face du Jourdain.
6Et les corbeaux lui apportaient du pain et de la viande le matin, et du pain et de la viande le soir, et l'eau du torrent était son breuvage.
7Et après un certain temps le torrent fut à sec ; car il ne pleuvait point dans le pays.
8Alors la parole de l'Éternel lui fut adressée en ces termes :
9Lève-toi et t'en va à Tsarpath qui tient à Sidon, et t'y établis : voici, j'y ai donné ordre à une femme veuve de te nourrir.
10Et Élie se leva et gagna Tsarpath ; et il arriva à l'entrée de la ville, et voici que là était une femme veuve qui ramassait des brins de bois. Et s'adressant à elle il dit : Veuille me chercher un peu d'eau dans la cruche pour que j'aie à boire.
11Et elle alla en chercher. Et s'adressant à elle il dit : Veuille prendre en ta main une bouchée de pain pour moi.
12Et elle dit : Par la vie de l'Éternel, ton Dieu, je n'ai pas une galette, je n'ai qu'une poignée de farine dans la caisse, et une goutte d'huile dans la jarre, et me voici ramassant une couple de brins de bois, et rentrée avec cela je préparerai à manger pour moi et mon fils, puis nous mourrons.
13Et Élie lui dit : Sois sans crainte, rentre, fais comme tu as dit, seulement commence par en préparer pour moi une petite galette que tu m'apporteras dehors et après cela tu prépareras pour toi et ton fils.
14Car ainsi parle l'Éternel, Dieu d'Israël : La caisse de la farine ne s'épuisera pas et la jarre d'huile ne fera pas défaut, jusqu'au jour où l'Éternel accordera de la pluie à la face de la terre.
15Et elle s'en alla et exécuta ce qu'avait dit Élie ; et elle prit son repas, elle, lui et toute sa maison.
16A partir de ce jour la caisse de la farine ne s'épuisa pas et la jarre d'huile ne fit pas défaut, selon la parole de l'Éternel prononcée par l'organe d'Élie.
17Et sur ces entrefaites, le fils de la femme, maîtresse de la maison, tomba malade, et sa maladie était très intense, au point qu'il ne lui restait plus un souffle de vie.
18Alors elle dit à Élie : Que peut-il y avoir entre moi et toi, homme de Dieu ? Es-tu venu chez moi pour rappeler la mémoire de ma faute, et faire mourir mon fils ?
19Et il lui dit : Confie-moi ton fils. Et il le prit d'entre ses bras et le porta dans la chambre supérieure où il logeait, et il le coucha sur son lit.
20Et il implora l'Éternel et dit : Éternel, mon Dieu, est-ce que même cette veuve chez qui je trouve l'hospitalité, tu veux l'affliger en faisant mourir son fils ?
21Puis il s'étendit sur l'enfant par trois fois et implora l'Éternel en disant : Éternel, mon Dieu, oh ! que l'âme de cet enfant revienne au dedans de lui !
22Et l'Éternel écouta la voix d'Élie et l'âme de l'enfant revint au dedans de lui et il reprit vie.
23Alors Élie prit l'enfant et le descendit de l'étage supérieur dans l'habitation, et le rendit à sa mère en disant : Vois ! ton fils est vivant.
24Et la femme dit à Élie : Maintenant je reconnais que tu es un homme de Dieu et que la parole de l'Éternel dans ta bouche est vérité.

1ENTONCES Elías Thisbita, que era de los moradores de Galaad, dijo á Achâb: Vive Jehová Dios de Israel, delante del cual estoy, que no habrá lluvia ni rocío en estos años, sino por mi palabra.
2Y fué á él palabra de Jehová, diciendo:
3Apártate de aquí, y vuélvete al oriente, y escóndete en el arroyo de Cherith, que está delante del Jordán;
4Y beberás del arroyo; y yo he mandado á los cuervos que te den allí de comer.
5Y él fué, é hizo conforme á la palabra de Jehová; pues se fué y asentó junto al arroyo de Cherith, que está antes del Jordán.
6Y los cuervos le traían pan y carne por la mañana, y pan y carne á la tarde; y bebía del arroyo.
7Pasados algunos días, secóse el arroyo; porque no había llovido sobre la tierra.
8Y fué á él palabra de Jehová, diciendo:
9Levántate, vete á Sarepta de Sidón, y allí morarás: he aquí yo he mandado allí á una mujer viuda que te sustente.
10Entonces él se levantó, y se fué á Sarepta. Y como llegó á la puerta de la ciudad, he aquí una mujer viuda que estaba allí cogiendo serojas; y él la llamó, y díjole: Ruégote que me traigas una poca de agua en un vaso, para que beba.
11Y yendo ella para traérsela, él la volvió á llamar, y díjole: Ruégote que me traigas también un bocado de pan en tu mano.
12Y ella respondió: Vive Jehová Dios tuyo, que no tengo pan cocido; que solamente un puñado de harina tengo en la tinaja, y un poco de aceite en una botija: y ahora cogía dos serojas, para entrarme y aderezarlo para mí y para mi hijo, y que lo comamos, y nos muramos.
13Y Elías le dijo: No hayas temor; ve, haz como has dicho: empero hazme á mí primero de ello una pequeña torta cocida debajo de la ceniza, y tráemela; y después harás para ti y para tu hijo.
14Porque Jehová Dios de Israel ha dicho así: La tinaja de la harina no escaseará, ni se disminuirá la botija del aceite, hasta aquel día que Jehová dará lluvia sobre la haz de la tierra.
15Entonces ella fué, é hizo como le dijo Elías; y comió él, y ella y su casa, muchos días.
16Y la tinaja de la harina no escaseó, ni menguó la botija del aceite, conforme á la palabra de Jehová que había dicho por Elías.
17Después de estas cosas aconteció que cayó enfermo el hijo del ama de la casa, y la enfermedad fué tan grave, que no quedó en él resuello.
18Y ella dijo á Elías: ¿Qué tengo yo contigo, varón de Dios? ¿has venido á mí para traer en memoria mis iniquidades, y para hacerme morir mi hijo?
19Y él le dijo: Dame acá tu hijo. Entonces él lo tomó de su regazo, y llevólo á la cámara donde él estaba, y púsole sobre su cama;
20Y clamando á Jehová, dijo: Jehová Dios mío, ¿aun á la viuda en cuya casa yo estoy hospedado has afligido, matándole su hijo?
21Y midióse sobre el niño tres veces, y clamó á Jehová, y dijo: Jehová Dios mío, ruégote que vuelva el alma de este niño á sus entrañas.
22Y Jehová oyó la voz de Elías, y el alma del niño volvió á sus entrañas, y revivió.
23Tomando luego Elías al niño, trájolo de la cámara á la casa, y diólo á su madre, y díjole Elías: Mira, tu hijo vive.
24Entonces la mujer dijo á Elías: Ahora conozco que tú eres varón de Dios, y que la palabra de Jehová es verdad en tu boca.

1And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.
2And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,
3Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.
4And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.
5So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.
6And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.
7And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.
8And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,
9Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.
10So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.
11And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.
12And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.
13And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.
14For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.
15And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.
16And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah.
17And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.
18And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?
19And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.
20And he cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?
21And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, I pray thee, let this child’s soul come into him again.
22And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.
23And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.
24And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in thy mouth is truth.

1Elijah the Tishbite, who was one of the settlers of Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the LORD, the God of Israel, lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.”
2Then the LORD’s word came to him, saying,
3“Go away from here, turn eastward, and hide yourself by the brook Cherith, that is before the Jordan.
4You shall drink from the brook. I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.”
5So he went and did according to the LORD’s word, for he went and lived by the brook Cherith that is before the Jordan.
6The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook.
7After a while, the brook dried up, because there was no rain in the land.
8The LORD’s word came to him, saying,
9“Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and stay there. Behold, I have commanded a widow there to sustain you.”
10So he arose and went to Zarephath; and when he came to the gate of the city, behold, a widow was there gathering sticks. He called to her and said, “Please get me a little water in a jar, that I may drink.”
11As she was going to get it, he called to her and said, “Please bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.”
12She said, “As the LORD your God lives, I don’t have anything baked, but only a handful of meal in a jar and a little oil in a jar. Behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and bake it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.”
13Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid. Go and do as you have said; but make me a little cake from it first, and bring it out to me, and afterward make some for you and for your son.
14For the LORD, the God of Israel, says, ‘The jar of meal will not run out, and the jar of oil will not fail, until the day that the LORD sends rain on the earth.’”
15She went and did according to the saying of Elijah; and she, he, and her household ate many days.
16The jar of meal didn’t run out and the jar of oil didn’t fail, according to the LORD’s word, which he spoke by Elijah.
17After these things, the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, became sick; and his sickness was so severe that there was no breath left in him.
18She said to Elijah, “What have I to do with you, you man of God? You have come to me to bring my sin to memory, and to kill my son!”
19He said to her, “Give me your son.” He took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into the room where he stayed, and laid him on his own bed.
20He cried to the LORD and said, “LORD my God, have you also brought evil on the widow with whom I am staying, by killing her son?”
21He stretched himself on the child three times, and cried to the LORD and said, “LORD my God, please let this child’s soul come into him again.”
22The LORD listened to the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.
23Elijah took the child and brought him down out of the room into the house, and delivered him to his mother; and Elijah said, “Behold, your son lives.”
24The woman said to Elijah, “Now I know that you are a man of God, and that the LORD’s word in your mouth is truth.”
