La Sainte Bible (Ostervald)
1Paul, serviteur de Jésus-Christ, appelé à être apôtre, mis à part pour annoncer l'Évangile de Dieu,
2Qu'il avait promis auparavant par ses prophètes, dans les saintes Écritures,
3Touchant son Fils, né de la race de David selon la chair,
4Et, selon l'esprit de sainteté, déclaré Fils de Dieu avec puissance, par sa résurrection des morts, savoir, Jésus-Christ notre Seigneur,
5Par qui nous avons reçu la grâce et l'apostolat, afin d'amener à l'obéissance de la foi en son nom toutes les nations;
6Du nombre desquels vous êtes aussi, vous qui avez été appelés par Jésus-Christ;
7A tous les bien-aimés de Dieu, appelés et saints, qui sont à Rome; la grâce et la paix vous soient données de la part de Dieu notre Père et du Seigneur Jésus-Christ!
8Avant toutes choses, je rends grâces au sujet de vous tous à mon Dieu, par Jésus-Christ, de ce que votre foi est célèbre par tout le monde.
9Car Dieu, que je sers en mon esprit dans l'Évangile de son Fils, m'est témoin que je fais sans cesse mention de vous,
10Lui demandant toujours dans mes prières, de pouvoir, si c'est sa volonté, trouver enfin quelque occasion favorable d'aller vous voir;
11Car je souhaite fort de vous voir, pour vous faire part de quelque don spirituel, afin que vous soyez affermis,
12C'est-à-dire afin qu'étant parmi vous, nous nous consolions ensemble par la foi qui nous est commune, à vous et à moi.
13Or, mes frères, je ne veux pas que vous ignoriez que j'ai souvent formé le dessein d'aller chez vous, afin de recueillir quelque fruit parmi vous, comme parmi les autres nations; mais j'en ai été empêché jusqu'à présent.
14Je me dois aux Grecs et aux Barbares, aux savants et aux ignorants.
15Ainsi, autant qu'il dépend de moi, je suis prêt à vous annoncer aussi l'Évangile, à vous qui êtes à Rome.
16Car je n'ai point honte de l'Évangile de Christ, car c'est la puissance de Dieu, pour le salut de tous ceux qui croient, du Juif d'abord, du Grec ensuite.
17Car en lui la justice de Dieu est révélée de foi en foi, selon qu'il est écrit: Le juste vivra par la foi.
18Car la colère de Dieu se déclare du ciel contre toute l'impiété et l'injustice des hommes, qui retiennent la vérité dans l'injustice,
19Parce que ce qu'on peut connaître de Dieu est manifesté parmi eux, car Dieu le leur a manifesté.
20En effet, les perfections invisibles de Dieu, sa puissance éternelle et sa divinité, se voient comme à l'œil, depuis la création du monde, quand on les considère dans ses ouvrages. De sorte qu'ils sont inexcusables,
21Parce qu'ayant connu Dieu, ils ne l'ont point glorifié comme Dieu, et ne lui ont point rendu grâces: au contraire, ils sont devenus vains dans leurs raisonnements, et leur cœur destitué d'intelligence a été rempli de ténèbres.
22Se vantant d'être sages, ils sont devenus fous;
23Et ils ont changé la gloire du Dieu incorruptible en des images qui représentent l'homme corruptible, et les oiseaux, et les quadrupèdes, et les reptiles.
24C'est pourquoi aussi, Dieu les a livrés, dans les convoitises de leurs cœurs, à une impureté telle qu'ils ont déshonoré eux-mêmes leurs propres corps;
25Eux qui ont changé la vérité de Dieu en mensonge, et ont adoré et servi la créature, au lieu du Créateur, qui est béni éternellement. Amen!
26C'est pourquoi Dieu les a livrés à des passions honteuses; car les femmes parmi eux ont changé l'usage naturel en un autre qui est contre nature.
27De même aussi, les hommes, laissant l'usage naturel de la femme, ont été embrasés dans leur convoitise les uns pour les autres, commettant homme avec homme des choses infâmes, et recevant en eux-mêmes la récompense qui était due à leur égarement.
28Et, comme ils ne se sont pas souciés de connaître Dieu, Dieu les a livrés à un esprit dépravé, en sorte qu'ils commettent des choses indignes.
29Ils sont remplis de toute injustice, d'impureté, de méchanceté, d'avarice, de malice; pleins d'envie, de meurtres, de querelles, de tromperies, et de malignité;
30Rapporteurs, médisants, ennemis de Dieu, outrageux, orgueilleux, vains, inventeurs de méchancetés, désobéissants à pères et à mères;
31Sans intelligence, sans loyauté, sans affection naturelle, implacables, sans compassion;
32Qui, connaissant le décret de Dieu, savoir: que ceux qui commettent de telles choses sont dignes de mort, non seulement les pratiquent, mais encore approuvent ceux qui les commettent.

1PABLO, siervo de Jesucristo, llamado á ser apóstol, apartado para el evangelio de Dios,
2Que él había antes prometido por sus profetas en las santas Escrituras,
3Acerca de su Hijo, (que fué hecho de la simiente de David según la carne;
4El cual fué declarado Hijo de Dios con potencia, según el espíritu de santidad, por la resurrección de los muertos), de Jesucristo Señor nuestro,
5Por el cual recibimos la gracia y el apostolado, para la obediencia de la fe en todas las naciones en su nombre,
6Entre las cuales sois también vosotros, llamados de Jesucristo:
7A todos los que estáis en Roma, amados de Dios, llamados santos: Gracia y paz tengáis de Dios nuestro Padre, y del Señor Jesucristo.
8Primeramente, doy gracias á mi Dios por Jesucristo acerca de todos vosotros, de que vuestra fe es predicada en todo el mundo.
9Porque testigo me es Dios, al cual sirvo en mi espíritu en el evangelio de su Hijo, que sin cesar me acuerdo de vosotros siempre en mis oraciones,
10Rogando, si al fin algún tiempo haya de tener, por la voluntad de Dios, próspero viaje para ir á vosotros.
11Porque os deseo ver, para repartir con vosotros algún don espiritual, para confirmaros;
12Es á saber, para ser juntamente consolado con vosotros por la común fe vuestra y juntamente mía.
13Mas no quiero, hermanos, que ignoréis que muchas veces me he propuesto ir á vosotros (empero hasta ahora he sido estorbado), para tener también entre vosotros algún fruto, como entre los demás Gentiles.
14A Griegos y á bárbaros, á sabios y á no sabios soy deudor.
15Así que, cuanto á mí, presto estoy á anunciar el evangelio también á vosotros que estáis en Roma.
16Porque no me avergüenzo del evangelio: porque es potencia de Dios para salud á todo aquel que cree; al Judío primeramente y también al Griego.
17Porque en él la justicia de Dios se descubre de fe en fe; como está escrito: Mas el justo vivirá por la fe.
18Porque manifiesta es la ira de Dios del cielo contra toda impiedad é injusticia de los hombres, que detienen la verdad con injusticia:
19Porque lo que de Dios se conoce, á ellos es manifiesto; porque Dios se lo manifestó.
20Porque las cosas invisibles de él, su eterna potencia y divinidad, se echan de ver desde la creación del mundo, siendo entendidas por las cosas que son hechas; de modo que son inexcusables:
21Porque habiendo conocido á Dios, no le glorificaron como á Dios, ni dieron gracias; antes se desvanecieron en sus discursos, y el necio corazón de ellos fué entenebrecido.
22Diciéndose ser sabios, se hicieron fatuos,
23Y trocaron la gloria del Dios incorruptible en semejanza de imagen de hombre corruptible, y de aves, y de animales de cuatro pies, y de serpientes.
24Por lo cual también Dios los entregó á inmundicia, en las concupiscencias de sus corazones, de suerte que contaminaron sus cuerpos entre sí mismos:
25Los cuales mudaron la verdad de Dios en mentira, honrando y sirviendo á las criaturas antes que al Criador, el cual es bendito por los siglos. Amén.
26Por esto Dios los entregó á afectos vergonzosos; pues aun sus mujeres mudaron el natural uso en el uso que es contra naturaleza:
27Y del mismo modo también los hombres, dejando el uso natural de las mujeres, se encendieron en sus concupiscencias los unos con los otros, cometiendo cosas nefandas hombres con hombres, y recibiendo en sí mismos la recompensa que convino á su extravío.
28Y como á ellos no les pareció tener á Dios en su noticia, Dios los entregó á una mente depravada, para hacer lo que no conviene,
29Estando atestados de toda iniquidad, de fornicación, de malicia, de avaricia, de maldad; llenos de envidia, de homicidios, de contiendas, de engaños, de malignidades;
30Murmuradores, detractores, aborrecedores de Dios, injuriosos, soberbios, altivos, inventores de males, desobedientes á los padres,
31Necios, desleales, sin afecto natural, implacables, sin misericordia:
32Que, habiendo entendido el juicio de Dios que los que hacen tales cosas son dignos de muerte, no sólo las hacen, mas aun consienten á los que las hacen.

1Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,
2(Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,)
3Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;
4And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:
5By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name:
6Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ:
7To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.
8First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.
9For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers;
10Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you.
11For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established;
12That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.
13Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that oftentimes I purposed to come unto you, (but was let hitherto,) that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among other Gentiles.
14I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise.
15So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also.
16For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
17For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
18For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
19Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
20For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
21Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

2which he promised before through his prophets in the holy Scriptures,
3concerning his Son, who was born of the offspring of David according to the flesh,
4who was declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord,
5through whom we received grace and apostleship for obedience of faith among all the nations for his name’s sake;
6among whom you are also called to belong to Jesus Christ;
7to all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
8First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, that your faith is proclaimed throughout the whole world.
9For God is my witness, whom I serve in my spirit in the Good News of his Son, how unceasingly I make mention of you always in my prayers,

21Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened.
22Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23and traded the glory of the incorruptible God for the likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of birds, four-footed animals, and creeping things.
24Therefore God also gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to uncleanness, that their bodies should be dishonored among themselves;
25who exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
26For this reason, God gave them up to vile passions. For their women changed the natural function into that which is against nature.
27Likewise also the men, leaving the natural function of the woman, burned in their lust toward one another, men doing what is inappropriate with men, and receiving in themselves the due penalty of their error.
28Even as they refused to have God in their knowledge, God gave them up to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting;
29being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, malice; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil habits, secret slanderers,
30backbiters, hateful to God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, unforgiving, unmerciful;
32who, knowing the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but also approve of those who practice them.
