1Cantique d'Asaph. Ecoute, ô mon peuple, mon enseignement ; prête l'oreille aux paroles de ma bouche.
2Je vais ouvrir ma bouche pour dire des sentences, je publierai les mystères des temps anciens.
3Ce que nous avons entendu, ce que nous avons appris, ce que nos pères nous ont raconté,
4nous ne le cacherons pas à leurs enfants ; nous dirons à la génération future les louanges de Yahweh, et sa puissance, et les prodiges qu'il a opérés.
5Il a mis une règle en Jacob, il a établi une loi en Israël, qu'il a enjoint à nos pères d'apprendre à leurs enfants,
6pour qu'elles soient connues des générations suivantes, des enfants qui naîtraient et qui se lèveraient, pour les raconter à leur tour à leurs enfants.
7Ainsi ils mettraient en Dieu leur confiance, ils n'oublieraient point les œuvres de Dieu, et ils observeraient ses préceptes ;
8ils ne seraient point, comme leurs pères, une race indocile et rebelle, une race au cœur volage, dont l'esprit n'est pas fidèle à Dieu.
9Les fils d'Ephraïm, archers habiles à tirer de l'arc, ont tourné le dos au jour du combat ;
10ils n'ont pas gardé l'alliance de Dieu, ils ont refusé de marcher selon sa loi ;
11ils ont mis en oubli ses grandes œuvres, et les merveilles qu'il leur avait montrées.
12Devant leurs pères, il avait fait des prodiges, au pays de l'Egypte, dans les campagnes de Tanis.
13Il ouvrit la mer pour les faire passer ; Il retint les eaux dressées comme un monceau
14Il les conduisit le jour par la nuée, et toute la nuit par un feu brillant.
15Il fendit les rochers dans le désert, et il donna à boire comme des flots abondants.
16Du rocher il fit jaillir des ruisseaux, et couler l'eau par torrents.
17Mais ils continuèrent de pécher contre lui, de se révolter contre le Très-Haut dans le désert.
18Ils tentèrent Dieu dans leur cœur, en demandant de la nourriture selon leur convoitise.
19Ils parlèrent contre Dieu et dirent : " Dieu pourra-t-il dresser une table dans le désert ?
20Voici qu'il a frappé le rocher, et des eaux ont coulé, et des torrents se sont répandus ; pourra-t-il aussi nous donner du pain ou bien procurer de la viande à son peuple ? "
21Yahweh entendit et il fut irrité, un feu s'alluma contre Jacob, et la colère s'éleva contre Israël,
22parce qu'ils n'avaient pas eu foi en Dieu et n'avaient pas espéré en son secours.
23Cependant il commanda aux nuées d'en haut, et il ouvrit les portes du ciel ;
24il fit pleuvoir sur eux la manne pour les nourrir, et leur donna le froment du ciel.
25Chacun mangea le pain des forts, Il leur envoya de la nourriture à satiété.
26Il fit souffler dans le ciel le vent d'orient, il amena par sa puissance le vent du midi ;
27il fit pleuvoir sur eux la viande comme de la poussière, et les oiseaux ailés comme le sable des mers.
28Il les fit tomber au milieu de leur camp, autour de leurs tentes.
29Ils mangèrent et se rassasièrent à l'excès ; Dieu leur donna ce qu'ils avaient désiré.
30Ils n'avaient pas encore satisfait leur convoitise, et leur nourriture était encore à leur bouche,
31quand la colère de Dieu s'éleva contre eux ; il frappa de mort les mieux repus, il abattit les jeunes hommes d'Israël.
32Après tout cela, ils péchèrent encore, et n'eurent pas foi dans ses prodiges.
33Alors il dissipa leurs jours comme un souffle, et leurs années par une fin soudaine.
34Quand il les frappait de mort, ils le cherchaient, ils revenaient, empressés à retrouver Dieu,
35ils se rappelaient que Dieu était leur rocher, et le Dieu Très-Haut leur libérateur.
36Mais ils le trompaient par leurs paroles, et leur langue lui mentait ;
37leur cœur n'était pas ferme avec lui, ils n'étaient pas fidèles à son alliance.
38Mais lui est miséricordieux : il pardonne le péché et ne détruit pas ; souvent il retint sa colère, et ne se livra pas à toute sa fureur.
39Il se souvenait qu'ils n'étaient que chair, un souffle qui s'en va et ne revient plus.
40Que de fois ils se révoltèrent contre lui dans le désert, ils l'irritèrent dans la solitude !
41Ils ne cessèrent de tenter Dieu et de provoquer le Saint d'Israël.
42Ils ne se souvinrent plus de sa puissance, du jour où il les délivra de l'oppresseur,
43où il montra ses prodiges en Egypte, ses actions merveilleuses dans les campagnes de Tanis.
44Il changea leurs fleuves en sang, et ils ne purent boire à leurs ruisseaux.
45Il envoya contre eux le moucheron qui les dévora, et la grenouille qui les fit périr.
46Il livra leurs récoltes à la sauterelle, le produit de leur travail à ses essaims.
47Il détruisit leurs vignes par la grêle, et leurs sycomores par les grêlons.
48Il abandonna leur bétail à la grêle, et leurs troupeaux aux coups de la foudre.
49Il déchaîna contre eux le feu de son courroux, la fureur, la rage et la détresse, toute une armée d'anges de malheur.
50Il donna libre carrière à sa colère, il ne sauva pas leur âme de la mort, il livra leur vie à la destruction.
51Il frappa tous les premiers-nés en Egypte, les prémices de la force sous les tentes de Cham.
52Il fit partir son peuple comme des brebis, il les mena comme un troupeau dans le désert.
53Il les dirigea sûrement, sans qu'ils eussent rien à craindre, et la mer engloutit leurs ennemis.
54Il les fit arriver jusqu'à sa frontière sainte, jusqu'à la montagne que sa droite a conquise.
55Il chassa les nations devant eux, leur assigna par le sort leur part d'héritage, et fit habiter dans leurs tentes les tribus d'Israël.
56Cependant ils ont encore tenté et provoqué le Dieu Très-Haut, et ils n'ont pas observé ses ordonnances.
57Ils se sont détournés et ont été infidèles comme leurs pères, ils se sont détournés comme un arc trompeur.
58Ils l'ont irrité par leurs hauts lieux, ils ont excité sa jalousie par leurs idoles.
59Dieu entendit et s'indigna, il prit Israël en grande aversion.
60Il dédaigna la demeure de Silo, la tente où il habitait parmi les hommes.
61Il livra sa force à la captivité, et sa majesté aux mains de l'ennemi.
62Il abandonna son peuple au glaive, et il s'indigna contre son héritage.
63Le feu dévora ses jeunes hommes, et ses vierges n'entendirent point le chant nuptial.
64Ses prêtres tombèrent par l'épée, et ses veuves ne se lamentèrent point.
65Le Seigneur se réveilla, comme un homme endormi, pareil au guerrier subjugué par le vin.
66Il frappa ses ennemis par derrière, il leur infligea une honte éternelle.
67Mais il prit en aversion la tente de Joseph, et il répudia la tribu d'Ephraïm.
68Il choisit la tribu de Juda, la montagne de Sion qu'il aimait.
69Et il bâtit son sanctuaire comme les hauteurs du ciel, comme la terre qu'il a fondée pour toujours.
70Il choisit David, son serviteur, et le tira des bergeries ;
71Il le prit derrière les brebis mères, pour paître Jacob, son peuple, et Israël, son héritage.
72Et David les guida dans la droiture de son cœur, et il les conduisit d'une main habile.

1Masquil de Asaph. ESCUCHA, pueblo mío, mi ley: inclinad vuestro oído á las palabras de mi boca.
2Abriré mi boca en parábola; hablaré cosas reservadas de antiguo:
3Las cuales hemos oído y entendido; que nuestros padres nos las contaron.
4No las encubriremos á sus hijos, contando á la generación venidera las alabanzas de Jehová, y su fortaleza, y sus maravillas que hizo.
5El estableció testimonio en Jacob, y pusó ley en Israel; la cual mandó á nuestros padres que la notificasen á sus hijos;
6Para que lo sepa la generación venidera, y los hijos que nacerán; y los que se levantarán, lo cuenten á sus hijos;
7A fin de que pongan en Dios su confianza, y no se olviden de las obras de Dios, y guarden sus mandamientos:
8Y no sean como sus padres, generación contumaz y rebelde; generación que no apercibió su corazón, ni fué fiel para con Dios su espíritu.
9Los hijos de Ephraim armados, flecheros, volvieron las espaldas el día de la batalla.
10No guardaron el pacto de Dios, ni quisieron andar en su ley:
11Antes se olvidaron de sus obras, y de sus maravillas que les había mostrado.
12Delante de sus padres hizo maravillas en la tierra de Egipto, en el campo de Zoán.
13Rompió la mar, é hízolos pasar; é hizo estar las aguas como en un montón.
14Y llevólos de día con nube, y toda la noche con resplandor de fuego.
15Hendió las peñas en el desierto: y dióles á beber como de grandes abismos;
16Pues sacó de la peña corrientes, é hizo descender aguas como ríos.
17Empero aun tornaron á pecar contra él, enojando en la soledad al Altísimo.
18Pues tentaron á Dios en su corazón, pidiendo comida á su gusto.
19Y hablaron contra Dios, diciendo: ¿Podrá poner mesa en el desierto?
20He aquí ha herido la peña, y corrieron aguas, y arroyos salieron ondeando: ¿podrá también dar pan? ¿aparejará carne á su pueblo?
21Por tanto oyó Jehová, é indignóse: y encendióse el fuego contra Jacob, y el furor subió también contra Israel;
22Por cuanto no habían creído á Dios, ni habían confiado en su salud:
23A pesar de que mandó á las nubes de arriba, y abrió las puertas de los cielos,
24E hizo llover sobre ellos maná para comer, y dióles trigo de los cielos.
25Pan de nobles comió el hombre: envióles comida á hartura.
26Movió el solano en el cielo, y trajo con su fortaleza el austro.
27E hizo llover sobre ellos carne como polvo, y aves de alas como arena de la mar.
28E hízolas caer en medio de su campo, alrededor de sus tiendas.
29Y comieron, y hartáronse mucho: cumplióles pues su deseo.
30No habían quitado de sí su deseo, aun estaba su vianda en su boca,
31Cuando vino sobre ellos el furor de Dios, y mató los más robustos de ellos, y derribó los escogidos de Israel.
32Con todo esto pecaron aún, y no dieron crédito á sus maravillas.
33Consumió por tanto en nada sus días, y sus años en la tribulación.
34Si los mataba, entonces buscaban á Dios; entonces se volvían solícitos en busca suya.
35Y acordábanse que Dios era su refugio, y el Dios Alto su redentor.
36Mas le lisonjeaban con su boca, y con su lengua le mentían:
37Pues sus corazones no eran rectos con él, ni estuvieron firmes en su pacto.
38Empero él misericordioso, perdonaba la maldad, y no los destruía: y abundó para apartar su ira, y no despertó todo su enojo.
39Y acordóse que eran carne; soplo que va y no vuelve.
40¡Cuántas veces lo ensañaron en el desierto, lo enojaron en la soledad!
41Y volvían, y tentaban á Dios, y ponían límite al Santo de Israel.
42No se acordaron de su mano, del día que los redimió de angustia;
43Cuando puso en Egipto sus señales, y sus maravillas en el campo de Zoán;
44Y volvió sus ríos en sangre, y sus corrientes, porque no bebiesen.
45Envió entre ellos una mistura de moscas que los comían, y ranas que los destruyeron.
46Dió también al pulgón sus frutos, y sus trabajos á la langosta.
47Sus viñas destruyó con granizo, y sus higuerales con piedra;
48Y entregó al pedrisco sus bestias, y al fuego sus ganados.
49Envió sobre ellos el furor de su saña, ira y enojo y angustia, con misión de malos ángeles.
50Dispuso el camino á su furor; no eximió la vida de ellos de la muerte, sino que entregó su vida á la mortandad.
51E hirió á todo primogénito en Egipto, las primicias de las fuerzas en las tiendas de Châm.
52Empero hizo salir á su pueblo como ovejas, y llevólos por el desierto, como un rebaño.
53Y guiólos con seguridad, que no tuvieron miedo; y la mar cubrió á sus enemigos.
54Metiólos después en los términos de su santuario, en este monte que ganó su mano derecha.
55Y echó las gentes de delante de ellos, y repartióles una herencia con cuerdas; é hizo habitar en sus moradas á las tribus de Israel.
56Mas tentaron y enojaron al Dios Altísimo, y no guardaron sus testimonios;
57Sino que se volvieron, y se rebelaron como sus padres: volviéronse como arco engañoso.
58Y enojáronlo con sus altos, y provocáronlo á celo con sus esculturas.
59Oyólo Dios, y enojóse, y en gran manera aborreció á Israel.
60Dejó por tanto el tabernáculo de Silo, la tienda en que habitó entre los hombres;
61Y dió en cautividad su fortaleza, y su gloria en mano del enemigo.
62Entregó también su pueblo á cuchillo, y airóse contra su heredad.
63El fuego devoró sus mancebos, y sus vírgenes no fueron loadas en cantos nupciales.
64Sus sacerdotes cayeron á cuchillo, y sus viudas no lamentaron.
65Entonces despertó el Señor á la manera del que ha dormido, como un valiente que grita excitado del vino:
66E hirió á sus enemigos en las partes posteriores: dióles perpetua afrenta.
67Y desechó el tabernáculo de José, y no escogió la tribu de Ephraim;
68Sino que escogió la tribu de Judá, el monte de Sión, al cual amó.
69Y edificó su santuario á manera de eminencia, como la tierra que cimentó para siempre.
70Y eligió á David su siervo, y tomólo de las majadas de las ovejas:
71De tras las paridas lo trajo, para que apacentase á Jacob su pueblo, y á Israel su heredad.
72Y apacentólos con entereza de su corazón; y pastoreólos con la pericia de sus manos.

1Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth.
2I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:
3Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.
4We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.
5For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:
6That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children:
7That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:
8And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God.
9The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.
10They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law;
11And forgat his works, and his wonders that he had shewed them.
12Marvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.
13He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand as an heap.
14In the daytime also he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire.
15He clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths.
16He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.
17And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness.
18And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust.
19Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?
20Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?
21Therefore the LORD heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel;
22Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation:
23Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven,
24And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.
25Man did eat angels’ food: he sent them meat to the full.
26He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind.
27He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea:
28And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.
29So they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire;
30They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths,
31The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel.
32For all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works.
33Therefore their days did he consume in vanity, and their years in trouble.
34When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and enquired early after God.
35And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer.
36Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues.
37For their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant.
38But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.
39For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.
40How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert!
41Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.
42They remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy.
43How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan:
44And had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, that they could not drink.
45He sent divers sorts of flies among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.
46He gave also their increase unto the caterpiller, and their labour unto the locust.
47He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycomore trees with frost.
48He gave up their cattle also to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts.
49He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels among them.
50He made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence;
51And smote all the firstborn in Egypt; the chief of their strength in the tabernacles of Ham:
52But made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.
53And he led them on safely, so that they feared not: but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.
54And he brought them to the border of his sanctuary, even to this mountain, which his right hand had purchased.
55He cast out the heathen also before them, and divided them an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.
56Yet they tempted and provoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies:
57But turned back, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers: they were turned aside like a deceitful bow.
58For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images.
59When God heard this, he was wroth, and greatly abhorred Israel:
60So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men;
61And delivered his strength into captivity, and his glory into the enemy’s hand.
62He gave his people over also unto the sword; and was wroth with his inheritance.
63The fire consumed their young men; and their maidens were not given to marriage.
64Their priests fell by the sword; and their widows made no lamentation.
65Then the Lord awaked as one out of sleep, and like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine.
66And he smote his enemies in the hinder parts: he put them to a perpetual reproach.
67Moreover he refused the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim:
68But chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved.
69And he built his sanctuary like high palaces, like the earth which he hath established for ever.
70He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds:
71From following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance.
72So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.

1Hear my teaching, my people. Turn your ears to the words of my mouth.
2I will open my mouth in a parable. I will utter dark sayings of old,
3which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.
4We will not hide them from their children, telling to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, his strength, and his wondrous deeds that he has done.
5For he established a covenant in Jacob, and appointed a teaching in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children;
6that the generation to come might know, even the children who should be born; who should arise and tell their children,
7that they might set their hope in God, and not forget God’s deeds, but keep his commandments,
8and might not be as their fathers— a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that didn’t make their hearts loyal, whose spirit was not steadfast with God.
9The children of Ephraim, being armed and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.
10They didn’t keep God’s covenant, and refused to walk in his law.

20Behold, he struck the rock, so that waters gushed out, and streams overflowed. Can he give bread also? Will he provide meat for his people?”
21Therefore the LORD heard, and was angry. A fire was kindled against Jacob, anger also went up against Israel,
22because they didn’t believe in God, and didn’t trust in his salvation.
23Yet he commanded the skies above, and opened the doors of heaven.
24He rained down manna on them to eat, and gave them food from the sky.
25Man ate the bread of angels. He sent them food to the full.
26He caused the east wind to blow in the sky. By his power he guided the south wind.
27He also rained meat on them as the dust, winged birds as the sand of the seas.
28He let them fall in the middle of their camp, around their habitations.
29So they ate, and were well filled. He gave them their own desire.
30They didn’t turn from their cravings. Their food was yet in their mouths,
31when the anger of God went up against them, killed some of their strongest, and struck down the young men of Israel.
32For all this they still sinned, and didn’t believe in his wondrous works.
33Therefore he consumed their days in vanity, and their years in terror.
34When he killed them, then they inquired after him. They returned and sought God earnestly.
35They remembered that God was their rock, the Most High God, their redeemer.
36But they flattered him with their mouth, and lied to him with their tongue.
37For their heart was not right with him, neither were they faithful in his covenant.
38But he, being merciful, forgave iniquity, and didn’t destroy them. Yes, many times he turned his anger away, and didn’t stir up all his wrath.
39He remembered that they were but flesh, a wind that passes away, and doesn’t come again.
40How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness, and grieved him in the desert!
41They turned again and tempted God, and provoked the Holy One of Israel.
42They didn’t remember his hand, nor the day when he redeemed them from the adversary;
43how he set his signs in Egypt, his wonders in the field of Zoan,
44he turned their rivers into blood, and their streams, so that they could not drink.
45He sent among them swarms of flies, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.
46He also gave their increase to the caterpillar, and their labor to the locust.
47He destroyed their vines with hail, their sycamore fig trees with frost.
48He also gave over their livestock to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts.
49He threw on them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, indignation, and trouble, and a band of angels of evil.
50He made a path for his anger. He didn’t spare their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence,

60so that he abandoned the tent of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men,
61and delivered his strength into captivity, his glory into the adversary’s hand.
62He also gave his people over to the sword, and was angry with his inheritance.
63Fire devoured their young men. Their virgins had no wedding song.
64Their priests fell by the sword, and their widows couldn’t weep.
65Then the Lord awakened as one out of sleep, like a mighty man who shouts by reason of wine.
66He struck his adversaries backward. He put them to a perpetual reproach.
67Moreover he rejected the tent of Joseph, and didn’t choose the tribe of Ephraim,
68But chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion which he loved.
69He built his sanctuary like the heights, like the earth which he has established forever.
70He also chose David his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds;
71from following the ewes that have their young, he brought him to be the shepherd of Jacob, his people, and Israel, his inheritance.
72So he was their shepherd according to the integrity of his heart, and guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.
