1Au maître de chant. Psaume des fils de Coré.
2Ecoutez tous ceci, ô peuples ; prêtez l'oreille vous tous habitants du monde,
3hommes du commun et hommes de condition, ensemble riches et pauvres.
4Ma bouche va faire entendre des paroles sages, et mon cœur a des pensées pleines de sens.
5Je prête l'oreille aux sentences que Dieu m'inspire ; j'explique mon énigme au son de la harpe.
6Pourquoi craindrais-je aux jours du malheur, lorsque l'iniquité de mes persécuteurs m'assiège ?
7Eux qui mettent leur confiance dans leurs biens, leur gloire dans leurs grandes richesses !
8Un homme ne peut racheter son frère, ni payer à Dieu sa rançon.
9Le rachat de leur vie est trop cher ; il est à jamais impossible,
10pour qu'il vive éternellement, et qu'il ne voie jamais la fosse.
11Non, il la verra ; les sages meurent, l'insensé et le stupide périssent également, laissant à d'autres leurs biens.
12Ils s'imaginent que leurs maisons seront éternelles, que leurs demeures subsisteront d'âge en âge, et ils donnent leurs noms à leurs domaines.
13Mais, même dans sa splendeur, l'homme ne dure pas ; il est semblable aux biches qui périssent.
14Tel est leur sort, à ces hommes si confiants, et à ceux qui les suivent en approuvant leurs discours. — Séla.
15Comme un troupeau, ils sont poussés dans le schéol, la mort est leur pasteur ; le matin, les hommes droits dominent sur eux, et leur ombre se consumera au schéol, sans autre demeure.
16Mais Dieu rachètera mon âme de la puissance du schéol, car il me prendra avec lui. — Séla.
17Ne crains donc pas, quand un homme s'enrichit, quand s'accroît l'opulence de sa maison.
18Car il n'emportera rien à sa mort, son opulence ne descendra pas avec lui.
19Il aura beau s'estimer heureux pendant sa vie ; on aura beau te louer des jouissances que tu te donnes :
20Tu iras rejoindre la génération de tes pères, qui jamais ne reverront la lumière.
21L'homme, même dans sa splendeur, ne comprend pas, il est semblable aux bêtes qui périssent.

2Así los plebeyos como los nobles, el rico y el pobre juntamente.
3Mi boca hablará sabiduría; y el pensamiento de mi corazón inteligencia.
4Acomodaré á ejemplos mi oído: declararé con el arpa mi enigma.
5¿Por qué he de temer en los días de adversidad, cuando la iniquidad de mis insidiadores me cercare?
6Los que confían en sus haciendas, y en la muchedumbre de sus riquezas se jactan,
7Ninguno de ellos podrá en manera alguna redimir al hermano, ni dar á Dios su rescate.
8(Porque la redención de su vida es de gran precio, y no se hará jamás;)
9Que viva adelante para siempre, y nunca vea la sepultura.
10Pues se ve que mueren los sabios, así como el insensato y el necio perecen, y dejan á otros sus riquezas.
11En su interior tienen que sus casas serán eternas, y sus habitaciones para generación y generación: llamaron sus tierras de sus nombres.
12Mas el hombre no permanecerá en honra: es semejante á las bestias que perecen.
13Este su camino es su locura: con todo, corren sus descendientes por el dicho de ellos. (Selah.)
14Como rebaños serán puestos en la sepultura; la muerte se cebará en ellos; y los rectos se enseñorearán de ellos por la mañana: y se consumirá su bien parecer en el sepulcro de su morada.
15Empero Dios redimirá mi vida del poder de la sepultura, cuando me tomará. (Selah.)
16No temas cuando se enriquece alguno, cuando aumenta la gloria de su casa;
17Porque en muriendo no llevará nada, ni descenderá tras él su gloria.
18Si bien mientras viviere, dirá dichosa á su alma: y tú serás loado cuando bien te tratares.
19Entrará á la generación de sus padres: no verán luz para siempre.
20El hombre en honra que no entiende, semejante es á las bestias que perecen.

1Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world:
2Both low and high, rich and poor, together.
3My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.
4I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.
5Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?
6They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;
7None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:
8(For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:)
9That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption.
10For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.
11Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.
12Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.
13This their way is their folly: yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah.
14Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.
15But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah.
16Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;
17For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.
18Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and men will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself.
19He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light.
20Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish.

1Hear this, all you peoples. Listen, all you inhabitants of the world,

3My mouth will speak words of wisdom. My heart will utter understanding.
4I will incline my ear to a proverb. I will solve my riddle on the harp.
5Why should I fear in the days of evil, when iniquity at my heels surrounds me?
6Those who trust in their wealth, and boast in the multitude of their riches—
7none of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give God a ransom for him.
8For the redemption of their life is costly, no payment is ever enough,
9that he should live on forever, that he should not see corruption.
10For he sees that wise men die; likewise the fool and the senseless perish, and leave their wealth to others.
11Their inward thought is that their houses will endure forever, and their dwelling places to all generations. They name their lands after themselves.
12But man, despite his riches, doesn’t endure. He is like the animals that perish.
13This is the destiny of those who are foolish, and of those who approve their sayings. Selah.
14They are appointed as a flock for Sheol. Death shall be their shepherd. The upright shall have dominion over them in the morning. Their beauty shall decay in Sheol, far from their mansion.
15But God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol, for he will receive me. Selah.
16Don’t be afraid when a man is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;
17for when he dies he will carry nothing away. His glory won’t descend after him.
18Though while he lived he blessed his soul— and men praise you when you do well for yourself—
