1Why, O Yahweh, do you stand far off? Why do you hide during times of distress?
2In arrogance the wicked persecutes the poor. Let them be caught in the schemes that they devised,
3for the wicked boasts about the desire of his ⌞heart⌟, and the one greedy for gain curses and treats Yahweh with contempt.
4⌞With bald-faced pride⌟ the wicked will not seek God. There is no God in any of his thoughts.
5His ways endure at all times. Your judgments are aloof from him. As for all his enemies, he scoffs at them.
6He says in his heart, “I shall not be moved ⌞throughout all generations⌟, during which I will have no trouble.”
7His mouth is filled with cursing, with deceits and oppression; under his tongue are trouble and evil.
8He sits in ambush in villages; in the hiding places he kills the innocent. His eyes ⌞lurk⌟ for the helpless.
9He lies in ambush ⌞secretly,⌟ like a lion in a thicket. He lies in ambush to seize the poor; he seizes the poor by catching him in his net.
10He is crushed; he is bowed down; so the helpless host falls by his ⌞might⌟.
11He says in his heart, “God has forgotten. He has hidden his face. He never sees.”
12Rise up, O Yahweh; O God, lift up your hand. Do not forget the afflicted.
13Why does the wicked treat God with contempt? He says in his heart, “You will not call me to account.”
14But you have seen; indeed you have noted trouble and grief to take it into your hand. The helpless abandons himself upon you; you have been the helper for the orphan.
15Break the arm of the wicked, and as for the evil man— seek out his wickedness until you find none.
16Yahweh is king forever and ever; the nations have perished from his land.
17The longing of the afflicted you have heard, O Yahweh. You will make their heart secure. You will ⌞listen attentively⌟
18to render judgment for the fatherless and the oppressed so that a mere mortal from the earth will no longer cause terror.

1¿POR qué estás lejos, oh Jehová, y te escondes en el tiempo de la tribulación?
2Con arrogancia el malo persigue al pobre: serán cogidos en los artificios que han ideado.
3Por cuanto se alaba el malo del deseo de su alma, y bendice al codicioso, á quien Jehová aborrece.
4El malo, por la altivez de su rostro, no busca á Dios: no hay Dios en todos sus pensamientos.
5Sus caminos son viciosos en todo tiempo: tus juicios los tiene muy lejos de su vista: echa bocanadas en orden á todos sus enemigos.
6Dice en su corazón: No seré movido en ningún tiempo, ni jamás me alcanzará el infortunio.
7Llena está su boca de maldición, y de engaños y fraude: debajo de su lengua, vejación y maldad.
8Está en las guaridas de las aldeas: en los escondrijos mata al inocente: sus ojos están acechando al pobre.
9Acecha en oculto, como el león desde su cama: acecha para arrebatar al pobre: arrebata al pobre trayéndolo á su red.
10Encógese, agáchase, y caen en sus fuerzas muchos desdichados.
11Dice en su corazón: Dios está olvidado, ha encubierto su rostro; nunca lo verá.
12Levántate, oh Jehová Dios, alza tu mano, no te olvides de los pobres.
13¿Por qué irrita el malo á Dios? En su corazón ha dicho que no lo inquirirás.
14Tú lo tienes visto: porque tú miras el trabajo, y la vejación, para vengarle por tu mano: á ti se acoge el pobre, tú eres el amparo del huérfano.
15Quebranta el brazo del malo: del maligno buscarás su maldad, hasta que ninguna halles.
16Jehová, Rey eterno y perpetuo; de su tierra fueron destruídas las gentes.
17El deseo de los humildes oíste, oh Jehová: tú dispones su corazón, y haces atento tu oído;
18Para juzgar al huérfano y al pobre, á fin de que no vuelva más á hacer violencia el hombre de la tierra.

1Why standest thou afar off, O LORD? why hidest thou thyself in times of trouble?
2The wicked in his pride doth persecute the poor: let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.
3For the wicked boasteth of his heart’s desire, and blesseth the covetous, whom the LORD abhorreth.
4The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.
5His ways are always grievous; thy judgments are far above out of his sight: as for all his enemies, he puffeth at them.
6He hath said in his heart, I shall not be moved: for I shall never be in adversity.
7His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue is mischief and vanity.
8He sitteth in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places doth he murder the innocent: his eyes are privily set against the poor.
9He lieth in wait secretly as a lion in his den: he lieth in wait to catch the poor: he doth catch the poor, when he draweth him into his net.
10He croucheth, and humbleth himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones.
11He hath said in his heart, God hath forgotten: he hideth his face; he will never see it.
12Arise, O LORD; O God, lift up thine hand: forget not the humble.
13Wherefore doth the wicked contemn God? he hath said in his heart, Thou wilt not require it.
14Thou hast seen it; for thou beholdest mischief and spite, to requite it with thy hand: the poor committeth himself unto thee; thou art the helper of the fatherless.
15Break thou the arm of the wicked and the evil man: seek out his wickedness till thou find none.
16The LORD is King for ever and ever: the heathen are perished out of his land.
17LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear:
18To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may no more oppress.

1Why do you stand far off, LORD? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?
2In arrogance, the wicked hunt down the weak. They are caught in the schemes that they devise.
3For the wicked boasts of his heart’s cravings. He blesses the greedy and condemns the LORD.
4The wicked, in the pride of his face, has no room in his thoughts for God.
5His ways are prosperous at all times. He is arrogant, and your laws are far from his sight. As for all his adversaries, he sneers at them.
6He says in his heart, “I shall not be shaken. For generations I shall have no trouble.”
7His mouth is full of cursing, deceit, and oppression. Under his tongue is mischief and iniquity.
8He lies in wait near the villages. From ambushes, he murders the innocent. His eyes are secretly set against the helpless.
9He lurks in secret as a lion in his ambush. He lies in wait to catch the helpless. He catches the helpless when he draws him in his net.
10The helpless are crushed. They collapse. They fall under his strength.
11He says in his heart, “God has forgotten. He hides his face. He will never see it.”
12Arise, LORD! God, lift up your hand! Don’t forget the helpless.
13Why does the wicked person condemn God, and say in his heart, “God won’t call me into account”?
14But you do see trouble and grief. You consider it to take it into your hand. You help the victim and the fatherless.
15Break the arm of the wicked. As for the evil man, seek out his wickedness until you find none.
16The LORD is King forever and ever! The nations will perish out of his land.
17LORD, you have heard the desire of the humble. You will prepare their heart. You will cause your ear to hear,
18to judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that man who is of the earth may terrify no more.
