1Mein Sohn, merke auf meine Weisheit und leihe meiner Einsicht dein Ohr,
2um Besonnenheit zu beobachten und damit deine Lippen Erkenntnis bewahren.
3Denn von Honigseim triefen die Lippen der fremden Frau, und glätter als Öl ist ihr Gaumen;
4aber zuletzt ist sie bitter wie Wermut, scharf wie ein zweischneidiges Schwert.
5Ihre Füße steigen zum Tode hinab, ihre Schritte sind geradeswegs zur Unterwelt gerichtet.
6Damit du nicht den Weg des Lebens einschlägst, sind ihre Bahnen unstet, ohne daß du es merkst.
7Nun denn, mein Sohn, höre auf mich und weiche nicht ab von den Worten meines Mundes!
8Halte deinen Weg fern von ihr und nahe dich nicht der Tür ihres Hauses,
9damit du nicht anderen deine Ehre hingeben mußt und (den Ertrag) deiner Jahre einem unerbittlichen (Rächer);
10damit nicht Fremde sich an deinem Vermögen sättigen und dein mühsam Erworbenes nicht in das Haus eines andern kommt,
11und du nicht schließlich seufzen mußt, wenn dir Leib und Fleisch dahingeschwunden ist,
12und du klagen mußt: »Ach, warum habe ich die Zucht gehaßt, und warum hat mein Herz die Warnung mißachtet!
13Warum habe ich nicht auf die Stimme meiner Lehrer gehört und meinen Erziehern kein Gehör geschenkt!
14Beinahe wäre ich ganz ins Verderben geraten inmitten der Gerichtsversammlung und in der Gemeinde!«
15Trinke Wasser nur aus deiner eigenen Zisterne und Quellwasser aus deinem eigenen Born!
16Sollen deine Quellen sich auf die Straße ergießen, deine Wasserbäche auf die freien Plätze?
17Nein, dir allein sollen sie angehören und keinem Fremden neben dir.
18Dein Brunnquell möge gesegnet sein, daß du am Weibe deiner Jugend dich erfreust!
19Das liebreizende Reh, die anmutige Gazelle – ihr Busen möge dich allezeit ergötzen, in ihrer Liebe sei immerdar trunken!
20Denn warum wolltest du, mein Sohn, an einer Fremden dich ergötzen und den Busen einer anderen umarmen? –
21Denn vor den Augen des HERRN liegen die Wege eines jeden offen da, und auf alle seine Pfade gibt er acht.
22Die eigenen Verschuldungen fangen ihn, den Gottlosen, und durch die Bande seiner Sünde wird er festgehalten.
23Sterben wird ein solcher infolge des Mangels an Zucht und ob seiner großen Torheit zum Sturz hintaumeln.

1HIJO mío, está atento á mi sabiduría, y á mi inteligencia inclina tu oído;
2Para que guardes consejo, y tus labios conserven la ciencia.
3Porque los labios de la extraña destilan miel, y su paladar es más blando que el aceite:
4Mas su fin es amargo como el ajenjo, agudo como cuchillo de dos filos.
5Sus pies descienden á la muerte; sus pasos sustentan el sepulcro:
6Sus caminos son instables; no los conocerás, si no considerares el camino de vida.
7Ahora pues, hijos, oidme, y no os apartéis de las razones de mi boca.
8Aleja de ella tu camino, y no te acerques á la puerta de su casa;
9Porque no des á los extraños tu honor, y tus años á cruel;
10Porque no se harten los extraños de tu fuerza, y tus trabajos estén en casa del extraño;
11Y gimas en tus postrimerías, cuando se consumiere tu carne y tu cuerpo,
12Y digas: ¡Cómo aborrecí el consejo, y mi corazón menospreció la reprensión;
13Y no oí la voz de los que me adoctrinaban, y á los que me enseñaban no incliné mi oído!
14Casi en todo mal he estado, en medio de la sociedad y de la congregación.
15Bebe el agua de tu cisterna, y los raudales de tu pozo.
16Derrámense por de fuera tus fuentes, en las plazas los ríos de aguas.
17Sean para ti solo, y no para los extraños contigo.
18Sea bendito tu manantial; y alégrate con la mujer de tu mocedad.
19Como cierva amada y graciosa corza, sus pechos te satisfagan en todo tiempo; y en su amor recréate siempre.
20¿Y por qué, hijo mío, andarás ciego con la ajena, y abrazarás el seno de la extraña?
21Pues que los caminos del hombre están ante los ojos de Jehová, y él considera todas sus veredas.
22Prenderán al impío sus propias iniquidades, y detenido será con las cuerdas de su pecado.
23El morirá por falta de corrección; y errará por la grandeza de su locura.

1My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:
2That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.
3For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:
4But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword.
5Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.
6Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.
7Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.
8Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:
9Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:
10Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;
11And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
12And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;
13And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!
14I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.
15Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.
16Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.
17Let them be only thine own, and not strangers’ with thee.
18Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
19Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.
20And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?
21For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.
22His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.
23He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

1My son, pay attention to my wisdom. Turn your ear to my understanding,
2that you may maintain discretion, that your lips may preserve knowledge.
3For the lips of an adulteress drip honey. Her mouth is smoother than oil,
4but in the end she is as bitter as wormwood, and as sharp as a two-edged sword.
5Her feet go down to death. Her steps lead straight to Sheol.
6She gives no thought to the way of life. Her ways are crooked, and she doesn’t know it.
7Now therefore, my sons, listen to me. Don’t depart from the words of my mouth.
8Remove your way far from her. Don’t come near the door of her house,
9lest you give your honor to others, and your years to the cruel one;
10lest strangers feast on your wealth, and your labors enrich another man’s house.
11You will groan at your latter end, when your flesh and your body are consumed,
12and say, “How I have hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof.
13I haven’t obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor turned my ear to those who instructed me!
14I have come to the brink of utter ruin, among the gathered assembly.”
15Drink water out of your own cistern, running water out of your own well.
16Should your springs overflow in the streets, streams of water in the public squares?
17Let them be for yourself alone, not for strangers with you.
18Let your spring be blessed. Rejoice in the wife of your youth.
19A loving doe and a graceful deer— let her breasts satisfy you at all times. Be captivated always with her love.
20For why should you, my son, be captivated with an adulteress? Why embrace the bosom of another?
21For the ways of man are before the LORD’s eyes. He examines all his paths.
22The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare him. The cords of his sin hold him firmly.
23He will die for lack of instruction. In the greatness of his folly, he will go astray.
