1Les paroles du roi Lémuel - la révélation que sa mère lui a enseignée :
2« Oh, mon fils ! Oh, fils de mes entrailles ! Oh, fils de mes vœux !
3Ne donne pas ta force aux femmes, ni vos voies à celles qui détruisent les rois.
4Ce n'est pas pour les rois, Lemuel, ce n'est pas aux rois de boire du vin, ni pour les princes de dire : « Où est la boisson forte ?
5de peur qu'ils ne boivent et n'oublient la loi, et pervertissent la justice due à celui qui est affligé.
6Donnez une boisson forte à celui qui est prêt à périr, et du vin pour les âmes amères.
7Qu'il boive, et qu'il oublie sa pauvreté, et ne plus se souvenir de sa misère.
8Ouvrez votre bouche pour le muet, pour la cause de tous ceux qui sont abandonnés.
9Ouvre ta bouche, juge avec justice, et rendre justice aux pauvres et aux nécessiteux. »
10Qui peut trouver une femme digne de ce nom ? Car sa valeur est bien supérieure à celle des rubis.
11Le cœur de son mari a confiance en elle. Il ne manquera pas de gain.
12Elle lui fait du bien, et non du mal, tous les jours de sa vie.
13Elle cherche la laine et le lin, et travaille avec ardeur avec ses mains.
14Elle est comme les navires marchands. Elle apporte son pain de loin.
15Elle se lève aussi alors qu'il fait encore nuit, donne de la nourriture à son foyer, et des portions pour ses servantes.
16Elle considère un champ, et l'achète. Avec le fruit de ses mains, elle plante une vigne.
17Elle arme sa taille avec force, et rend ses bras forts.
18Elle perçoit que sa marchandise est rentable. Sa lampe ne s'éteint pas la nuit.
19Elle pose ses mains sur la quenouille, et ses mains tiennent le fuseau.
20Elle ouvre ses bras aux pauvres ; oui, elle tend les mains aux nécessiteux.
21Elle n'a pas peur de la neige pour sa maison, car toute sa famille est vêtue d'écarlate.
22Elle se fait des tapis de tapisserie. Ses vêtements sont en lin fin et de couleur violette.
23Son mari est respecté dans les portes, quand il s'assiéra parmi les anciens du pays.
24Elle fait des vêtements de lin et les vend, et livre les coussins au marchand.
25La force et la dignité sont ses vêtements. Elle se moque du temps à venir.
26Elle ouvre sa bouche avec sagesse. L'instruction aimable est sur sa langue.
27Elle s'occupe bien des affaires de sa famille, et ne mange pas le pain de l'oisiveté.
28Ses enfants se lèvent et la qualifient de bienheureuse. Son mari fait également son éloge :
29« Beaucoup de femmes font des choses nobles, mais vous les surpassez tous. »
30Le charme est trompeur, et la beauté est vaine ; mais une femme qui craint Yahvé, on la louera.
31Donnez-lui du fruit de ses mains ! Que ses œuvres la louent dans les portes !

1PALABRAS del rey Lemuel; la profecía con que le enseñó su madre.
2¿Qué, hijo mío? ¿y qué, hijo de mi vientre? ¿y qué, hijo de mis deseos?
3No des á las mujeres tu fuerza, ni tus caminos á lo que es para destruir los reyes.
4No es de los reyes, oh Lemuel, no es de los reyes beber vino, ni de los príncipes la cerveza.
5No sea que bebiendo olviden la ley, y perviertan el derecho de todos los hijos afligidos.
6Dad la cerveza al desfallecido, y el vino á los de amargo ánimo:
7Beban, y olvídense de su necesidad, y de su miseria no más se acuerden.
8Abre tu boca por el mudo, en el juicio de todos los hijos de muerte.
9Abre tu boca, juzga justicia, y el derecho del pobre y del menesteroso.
10Mujer fuerte, ¿quién la hallará? porque su estima sobrepuja largamente á la de piedras preciosas.
11El corazón de su marido está en ella confiado, y no tendrá necesidad de despojo.
12Darále ella bien y no mal, todos los días de su vida.
13Buscó lana y lino, y con voluntad labró de sus manos.
14Fué como navío de mercader: trae su pan de lejos.
15Levantóse aun de noche, y dió comida á su familia, y ración á sus criadas.
16Consideró la heredad, y compróla; y plantó viña del fruto de sus manos.
17Ciñó sus lomos de fortaleza, y esforzó sus brazos.
18Gustó que era buena su granjería: su candela no se apagó de noche.
19Aplicó sus manos al huso, y sus manos tomaron la rueca.
20Alargó su mano al pobre, y extendió sus manos al menesteroso.
21No tendrá temor de la nieve por su familia, porque toda su familia está vestida de ropas dobles.
22Ella se hizo tapices; de lino fino y púrpura es su vestido.
23Conocido es su marido en las puertas, cuando se sienta con los ancianos de la tierra.
24Hizo telas, y vendió; y dió cintas al mercader.
25Fortaleza y honor son su vestidura; y en el día postrero reirá.
26Abrió su boca con sabiduría: y la ley de clemencia está en su lengua.
27Considera los caminos de su casa, y no come el pan de balde.
28Levantáronse sus hijos, y llamáronla bienaventurada; y su marido también la alabó.
29Muchas mujeres hicieron el bien; mas tú las sobrepujaste á todas.
30Engañosa es la gracia, y vana la hermosura: la mujer que teme á Jehová, ésa será alabada.
31Dadle el fruto de sus manos, y alábenla en las puertas sus hechos.
King James Version
1The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.
2What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?
3Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.
4It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:
5Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.
6Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.
7Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.
8Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.
9Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.
10Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
11The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.
12She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
13She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.
14She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar.
15She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.
16She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.
17She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.
18She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.
19She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
20She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
21She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
22She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.
23Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.
24She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.
25Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
26She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
27She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
28Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
29Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
30Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.
31Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

21She is not afraid of the snow for her household, for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
22She makes for herself carpets of tapestry. Her clothing is fine linen and purple.
23Her husband is respected in the gates, when he sits among the elders of the land.
24She makes linen garments and sells them, and delivers sashes to the merchant.
25Strength and dignity are her clothing. She laughs at the time to come.
26She opens her mouth with wisdom. Kind instruction is on her tongue.
27She looks well to the ways of her household, and doesn’t eat the bread of idleness.
28Her children rise up and call her blessed. Her husband also praises her:
29“Many women do noble things, but you excel them all.”
30Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain; but a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.
31Give her of the fruit of her hands! Let her works praise her in the gates!
