Proverbios 23
Biblia Torres Amat
1Cuando te sentares a comer con un príncipe, repara con atención lo que te ponen delante.
2Y si es que dominas tu apetito, aplica el cuchillo como para tapar tu garganta.
3No apetezcas sus exquisitas viandas, pues son un manjar engañoso.
4No te afanes por enriquecerte, antes bien pon coto a tu industria.
5No pongas tus ojos en las riquezas que no puedes adquirir; porque ellas tomarán alas como de águila, y se irán volando por el aire.
6No vayas a comer con el hombre envidioso, ni desees su mesa;
7puesto que, a manera de adivino y astrólogo, está calculando de antemano lo que aún no sabe que le gastarás. Come y bebe, te dirá él; mas su corazón no está contigo.
8Vomitarás cuanto comiste, y habrás desperdiciado tu amena conversación.
9No te metas a discurrir en presencia de los necios; porque despreciarán tus juiciosos razonamientos.
10No cambies los linderos de los menores de edad, ni te metas en la herencia de los huérfanos;
11porque es su curador el Todopoderoso, y defenderá contra ti la causa de ellos.
12Que se aplique tu corazón a la doctrina, y tus oídos a las máximas de sabiduría.
13No escasees la corrección al muchacho, pues aunque le des algún castigo, no morirá.
14Aplícale la vara del castigo, y librarás su alma del infierno.
15Hijo mío, si tu alma poseyere la sabiduría, mi corazón se regocijará con el tuyo;
16y saltarán de júbilo mis entrañas cuando proferirán tus labios razonamientos rectos.
17No envidie tu corazón a los pecadores; sino mantente siempre firme en el temor del Señor,
18con lo que al fin lograrás cuanto esperas; no quedarán burladas tus esperanzas.
19Escucha, ¡oh hijo mío!, y serás sabio, y enderezarás tu corazón por el camino recto.
20No asistas a los convites de los borrachos, ni a las comilonas de aquellos que contribuyen para los banquetes;
21porque con la frecuencia de beber y de pagar vendrán a arruinarse, y su soñolienta desidia los reducirá a ser unos andrajosos.
22Escucha a tu padre que te dio la vida, y no desprecies a tu madre cuando se hallare en la vejez.
23Procura adquirir a toda costa la verdad, y nunca te desprendas de la sabiduría, de la doctrina, ni de la inteligencia.
24Salta de júbilo el padre del justo; quien engendró un hijo sabio, hallará en él su consuelo.
25Tengan este gozo tu padre y tu madre, y salte de placer la que te vio nacer.
26Dame, ¡oh hijo mío!, tu corazón, y fija tus ojos en mis santos caminos;
27visto que la ramera es una sima profunda, y un estrecho pozo la adúltera.
28Ella acecha en el camino, como un salteador; y a cuantos incautos pasan, les quita la vida.
29¿Para quién son los ayes?; ¿para qué padre son las desdichas?; ¿contra quién serán las riñas?; ¿para quién los precipicios?; ¿para quién las heridas sin motivo alguno?; ¿quién trae los ojos encendidos?
30¿No son éstos los dados al vino, y los que hallan sus delicias en apurar copas?
31¡Ah!, no mires al vino cuando se pone rojo, cuando resalta su color en el vidrio; él entra suavemente.
32Mas a la postre muerde como culebra, y esparce veneno como el áspid.
33Se irán después tus ojos tras la mujer de otro, y prorrumpirá tu corazón en palabras perversas e indecentes.
34Y vendrás a ser como el que está dormido en medio del borrascoso mar, y como el piloto soñoliento que ha perdido el timón;
35y al cabo dirás: Me han azotado, pero no me han dolido los azotes; me arrastraron, mas yo nada he sentido: ¿cuándo quedaré despejado para volver a beber?

1CUANDO te sentares á comer con algún señor, considera bien lo que estuviere delante de ti;
2Y pon cuchillo á tu garganta, si tienes gran apetito.
3No codicies sus manjares delicados, porque es pan engañoso.
4No trabajes por ser rico; pon coto á tu prudencia.
5¿Has de poner tus ojos en las riquezas, siendo ningunas? porque hacerse han alas, como alas de águila, y volarán al cielo.
6No comas pan de hombre de mal ojo, ni codicies sus manjares:
7Porque cual es su pensamiento en su alma, tal es él. Come y bebe, te dirá; mas su corazón no está contigo.
8Vomitarás la parte que tú comiste, y perderás tus suaves palabras.
9No hables á oídos del necio; porque menospreciará la prudencia de tus razones.
10No traspases el término antiguo, ni entres en la heredad de los huérfanos:
11Porque el defensor de ellos es el Fuerte, el cual juzgará la causa de ellos contra ti.
12Aplica tu corazón á la enseñanza, y tus oídos á las palabras de sabiduría.
13No rehuses la corrección del muchacho: porque si lo hirieres con vara, no morirá.
14Tú lo herirás con vara, y librarás su alma del infierno.
15Hijo mío, si tu corazón fuere sabio, también á mí se me alegrará el corazón;
16Mis entrañas también se alegrarán, cuando tus labios hablaren cosas rectas.
17No tenga tu corazón envidia de los pecadores, antes persevera en el temor de Jehová todo tiempo:
18Porque ciertamente hay fin, y tu esperanza no será cortada.
19Oye tú, hijo mío, y sé sabio, y endereza tu corazón al camino.
20No estés con los bebedores de vino, ni con los comedores de carne:
21Porque el bebedor y el comilón empobrecerán: y el sueño hará vestir vestidos rotos.
22Oye á tu padre, á aquel que te engendró; y cuando tu madre envejeciere, no la menosprecies.
23Compra la verdad, y no la vendas; la sabiduría, la enseñanza, y la inteligencia.
24Mucho se alegrará el padre del justo: y el que engendró sabio se gozará con él.
25Alégrense tu padre y tu madre, y gócese la que te engendró.
26Dame, hijo mío, tu corazón, y miren tus ojos por mis caminos.
27Porque sima profunda es la ramera, y pozo angosto la extraña.
28También ella, como robador, acecha, y multiplica entre los hombres los prevaricadores.
29¿Para quién será el ay? ¿para quién el ay? ¿para quién las rencillas? ¿para quién las quejas? ¿para quién las heridas en balde? ¿para quién lo amoratado de los ojos?
30Para los que se detienen mucho en el vino, para los que van buscando la mistura.
31No mires al vino cuando rojea, cuando resplandece su color en el vaso: éntrase suavemente;
32Mas al fin como serpiente morderá, y como basilisco dará dolor:
33Tus ojos mirarán las extrañas, y tu corazón hablará perversidades.
34Y serás como el que yace en medio de la mar, ó como el que está en la punta de un mastelero.
35Y dirás: Hiriéronme, mas no me dolió; azotáronme, mas no lo sentí; cuando despertare, aun lo tornaré á buscar.

1When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee:
2And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.
3Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat.
4Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom.
5Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.
6Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainty meats:
7For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.
8The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words.
9Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.
10Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:
11For their redeemer is mighty; he shall plead their cause with thee.
12Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.
13Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.
14Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.
15My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.
16Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things.
17Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long.
18For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.
19Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way.
20Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh:
21For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.
22Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.
23Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
24The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.
25Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.
26My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.
27For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.
28She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men.
29Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?
30They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.
31Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.
32At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.
33Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things.
34Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.
35They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.
World English Bible
1When you sit to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before you;
2put a knife to your throat if you are a man given to appetite.
3Don’t be desirous of his dainties, since they are deceitful food.
4Don’t weary yourself to be rich. In your wisdom, show restraint.
5Why do you set your eyes on that which is not? For it certainly sprouts wings like an eagle and flies in the sky.
6Don’t eat the food of him who has a stingy eye, and don’t crave his delicacies,
7for as he thinks about the cost, so he is. “Eat and drink!” he says to you, but his heart is not with you.
8You will vomit up the morsel which you have eaten and waste your pleasant words.
9Don’t speak in the ears of a fool, for he will despise the wisdom of your words.
10Don’t move the ancient boundary stone. Don’t encroach on the fields of the fatherless,
11for their Defender is strong. He will plead their case against you.
12Apply your heart to instruction, and your ears to the words of knowledge.
13Don’t withhold correction from a child. If you punish him with the rod, he will not die.
14Punish him with the rod, and save his soul from Sheol.
15My son, if your heart is wise, then my heart will be glad, even mine.
16Yes, my heart will rejoice when your lips speak what is right.
17Don’t let your heart envy sinners, but rather fear the LORD all day long.
18Indeed surely there is a future hope, and your hope will not be cut off.
19Listen, my son, and be wise, and keep your heart on the right path!
20Don’t be among ones drinking too much wine, or those who gorge themselves on meat;
21for the drunkard and the glutton shall become poor; and drowsiness clothes them in rags.
22Listen to your father who gave you life, and don’t despise your mother when she is old.
23Buy the truth, and don’t sell it. Get wisdom, discipline, and understanding.
24The father of the righteous has great joy. Whoever fathers a wise child delights in him.
25Let your father and your mother be glad! Let her who bore you rejoice!
26My son, give me your heart; and let your eyes keep in my ways.
27For a prostitute is a deep pit; and a wayward wife is a narrow well.
28Yes, she lies in wait like a robber, and increases the unfaithful among men.
29Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes?
30Those who stay long at the wine; those who go to seek out mixed wine.
31Don’t look at the wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly.
32In the end, it bites like a snake, and poisons like a viper.
33Your eyes will see strange things, and your mind will imagine confusing things.
34Yes, you will be as he who lies down in the middle of the sea, or as he who lies on top of the rigging:
35“They hit me, and I was not hurt! They beat me, and I don’t feel it! When will I wake up? I can do it again. I will look for more.”
