1Paulo e Timóteo, escravos de Jesus Cristo, a todos os santos em Cristo Jesus que estão na cidade de Filipos, e também aos bispos e diáconos.
2A minha oração é que Deus, nosso Pai, e o Senhor Jesus Cristo, deem a cada um de vocês a sua graça e a sua paz no coração e na vida de vocês.
3Agradeço ao meu Deus todas as vezes que me lembro de vocês!
4Quando oro por vocês, meu coração se enche de alegria,
5por causa de toda a maravilhosa ajuda de vocês em fazer conhecido o evangelho de Cristo, desde a ocasião em que vocês o ouviram pela primeira vez até agora.
6E eu tenho a certeza de que Deus, que começou a boa obra em vocês, continuará ajudando-os a crescer em sua graça até quando sua tarefa em vocês estiver finalmente terminada naquele dia quando Jesus Cristo voltar.
7É bem natural que eu sentisse o que sinto a respeito de vocês, porque vocês têm um lugar muito especial em meu coração. Nós temos participado juntos da graça de Deus, mesmo eu estando na prisão ou ainda quando eu defendo a verdade e falo de Cristo aos outros.
8Só Deus sabe como é profundo o meu amor e a saudade que tenho de vocês, com a ternura de Jesus Cristo.
9Minha oração por vocês é que cada vez mais vocês transbordem de amor, e que, ao mesmo tempo, continuem a crescer em conhecimento e compreensão espiritual,
10pois eu desejo que vocês sempre vejam com toda a clareza a diferença entre o certo e o errado, e que sejam intimamente puros, para que ninguém possa censurá-los desde agora até que Cristo volte.
11Que vocês possam estar sempre fazendo coisas boas, pois isso resultará em muito louvor e glória ao Senhor.
12E quero que vocês saibam, irmãos: Tudo quanto me aconteceu aqui tem sido uma grande ajuda para o progresso do evangelho de Cristo.
13Porque todo mundo aqui, incluindo toda a guarda do palácio, e todos os demais, sabem que estou na cadeia por causa de Cristo.
14E por causa da minha prisão muitos dos santos daqui parecem ter perdido o medo de ser presos! De algum modo motivados no Senhor, eles começaram a ter cada vez mais coragem e determinação para falar de Cristo aos outros.
15Alguns, naturalmente, estão pregando o evangelho por inveja e rivalidade. Eles querem ter também a reputação de pregadores destemidos! Outros, porém, têm motivos puros,
16e pregam por amor, pois sabem que o Senhor me trouxe até aqui a fim de me usar para defender a verdade do evangelho.
17Alguns pregam a Cristo para fazer-me inveja, pensando que seu êxito aumentará minhas tristezas aqui no cárcere!
18Mas não importa a razão pela qual eles o estão fazendo, por motivos falsos ou verdadeiros; o que importa é que o evangelho de Cristo está sendo pregado, e eu fico alegre. Na verdade, continuarei a alegrar-me,
19porque sei que, à medida que vocês oram por mim e o Espírito de Jesus Cristo me ajuda, tudo isto vai resultar em minha libertação.
20Porque eu vivo em ansiosa expectativa e esperança de que nunca farei nada que me faça envergonhar-me de mim mesmo; mas sim que sempre estarei pronto a falar corajosamente de Cristo enquanto estou passando por todas estas provações aqui, tal como no passado; e também que eu sempre serei uma honra para Cristo, quer pela vida, quer pela morte.
21Porque, para mim, viver significa oportunidades para Cristo, e o morrer é melhor ainda!
22Mas se viver me der mais oportunidade para ganhar pessoas para Cristo, então na realidade não sei o que é melhor — viver ou morrer!
23Estou pressionado dos dois lados. Às vezes tenho desejo de ir e ficar com Cristo. Certamente seria muito melhor para mim do que estar aqui!
24Porém, a realidade é que eu posso ajudar mais a vocês permanecendo aqui!
25Sim, eu sou necessário aqui e, portanto, tenho certeza de que permanecerei com vocês um pouco mais, para ajudá-los a crescer e se tornarem felizes na fé.
26Minha permanência alegrará vocês e lhes dará motivos para glorificarem a Cristo Jesus por me ter conservado são, quando eu voltar para visitá-los novamente!
27Contudo, seja o que for que me acontecer, lembrem-se sempre de viver de maneira digna do evangelho de Cristo, de tal maneira que, quer os veja de novo, quer não, eu continue a ouvir boas notícias de que vocês permanecem lado a lado com um só e forte propósito — anunciar o evangelho
28sem temor algum, não importa o que os seus inimigos possam fazer. Eles verão nisto um sinal da sua própria desgraça, porém para vocês será um sinal claro de salvação da parte de Deus.
29Porque foi dado a vocês o privilégio não só de crer em Cristo, mas também de sofrer por ele.
30Nesta luta nós estamos juntos. Vocês me viram sofrer por ele no passado; e ainda estou agora no meio de um grande e terrível conflito, como vocês sabem tão bem.

1PABLO y Timoteo, siervos de Jesucristo, á todos los santos en Cristo Jesús que están en Filipos, con los obispos y diáconos:
2Gracia sea á vosotros, y paz de Dios nuestro Padre y del Señor Jesucristo.
3Doy gracias á mi Dios en toda memoria de vosotros,
4Siempre en todas mis oraciones haciendo oración por todos vosotros con gozo,
5Por vuestra comunión en el evangelio, desde el primer día hasta ahora:
6Estando confiado de esto, que el que comenzó en vosotros la buena obra, la perfeccionará hasta el día de Jesucristo;
7Como me es justo sentir esto de todos vosotros, por cuanto os tengo en el corazón; y en mis prisiones, y en la defensa y confirmación del evangelio, sois todos vosotros compañeros de mi gracia.
8Porque Dios me es testigo de cómo os amo á todos vosotros en las entrañas de Jesucristo.
9Y esto ruego, que vuestro amor abunde aun más y más en ciencia y en todo conocimiento,
10Para que discernáis lo mejor; que seáis sinceros y sin ofensa para el día de Cristo;
11Llenos de frutos de justicia, que son por Jesucristo, á gloria y loor de Dios.
12Y quiero, hermanos, que sepáis que las cosas que me han sucedido, han redundado más en provecho del evangelio;
13De manera que mis prisiones han sido célebres en Cristo en todo el pretorio, y á todos los demás;
14Y muchos de los hermanos en el Señor, tomando ánimo con mis prisiones, se atreven mucho más á hablar la palabra sin temor.
15Y algunos, á la verdad, predican á Cristo por envidia y porfía; mas algunos también por buena voluntad.
16Los unos anuncian á Cristo por contención, no sinceramente, pensando añadir aflicción á mis prisiones;
17Pero los otros por amor, sabiendo que soy puesto por la defensa del evangelio.
18¿Qué pues? Que no obstante, en todas maneras, ó por pretexto ó por verdad, es anunciado Cristo; y en esto me huelgo, y aun me holgaré.
19Porque sé que esto se me tornará á salud, por vuestra oración, y por la suministración del Espíritu de Jesucristo;
20Conforme á mi mira y esperanza, que en nada seré confundido; antes bien con toda confianza, como siempre, ahora también será engrandecido Cristo en mi cuerpo, ó por vida, ó por muerte.
21Porque para mí el vivir es Cristo, y el morir es ganancia.
22Mas si el vivir en la carne, esto me será para fruto de la obra, no sé entonces qué escoger;
23Porque de ambas cosas estoy puesto en estrecho, teniendo deseo de ser desatado, y estar con Cristo, lo cual es mucho mejor:
24Empero quedar en la carne es más necesario por causa de vosotros.
25Y confiado en esto, sé que quedaré, que aun permaneceré con todos vosotros, para provecho vuestro y gozo de la fe;
26Para que crezca vuestra gloria de mí en Cristo Jesús por mi venida otra vez á vosotros.
27Solamente que converséis como es digno del evangelio de Cristo; para que, ó sea que vaya á veros, ó que esté ausente, oiga de vosotros que estáis firmes en un mismo espíritu, unánimes combatiendo juntamente por la fe del evangelio,
28Y en nada intimidados de los que se oponen: que á ellos ciertamente es indicio de perdición, mas á vosotros de salud; y esto de Dios;
29Porque á vosotros es concedido por Cristo, no sólo que creáis en él, sino también que padezcáis por él,
30Teniendo el mismo conflicto que habéis visto en mí, y ahora oís estar en mí.

1Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:
2Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
3I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,
4Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy,
5For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now;
6Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
7Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace.
8For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ.
9And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;
10That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ;
11Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.
12But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gospel;
13So that my bonds in Christ are manifest in all the palace, and in all other places;
14And many of the brethren in the Lord, waxing confident by my bonds, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.
15Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:
16The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds:
17But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.
18What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.
19For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,
20According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.
21For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
22But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not.
23For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:
24Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you.
25And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith;
26That your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again.
27Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;
28And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God.
29For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;
30Having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me.
World English Bible
1Paul and Timothy, servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the overseers and servants:
2Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
3I thank my God whenever I remember you,
4always in every request of mine on behalf of you all, making my requests with joy,
5for your partnership in furtherance of the Good News from the first day until now;
6being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.
7It is even right for me to think this way on behalf of all of you, because I have you in my heart, because both in my bonds and in the defense and confirmation of the Good News, you all are partakers with me of grace.
8For God is my witness, how I long after all of you in the tender mercies of Christ Jesus.
9This I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and all discernment,
10so that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense to the day of Christ,
11being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
12Now I desire to have you know, brothers, that the things which happened to me have turned out rather to the progress of the Good News,
13so that it became evident to the whole palace guard, and to all the rest, that my bonds are in Christ,
14and that most of the brothers in the Lord, being confident through my bonds, are more abundantly bold to speak the word of God without fear.
15Some indeed preach Christ even out of envy and strife, and some also out of good will.
16The former insincerely preach Christ from selfish ambition, thinking that they add affliction to my chains;
17but the latter out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the Good News.
18What does it matter? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed. I rejoice in this, yes, and will rejoice.
19For I know that this will turn out to my salvation through your prayers and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,
20according to my earnest expectation and hope, that I will in no way be disappointed, but with all boldness, as always, now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death.
21For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
22But if I live on in the flesh, this will bring fruit from my work; yet I don’t know what I will choose.
23But I am hard pressed between the two, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better.
24Yet to remain in the flesh is more needful for your sake.
25Having this confidence, I know that I will remain, yes, and remain with you all for your progress and joy in the faith,
26that your boasting may abound in Christ Jesus in me through my presence with you again.
27Only let your way of life be worthy of the Good News of Christ, that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your state, that you stand firm in one spirit, with one soul striving for the faith of the Good News;
28and in nothing frightened by the adversaries, which is for them a proof of destruction, but to you of salvation, and that from God.
29Because it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in him, but also to suffer on his behalf,
30having the same conflict which you saw in me and now hear is in me.
