And Yahweh spake unto Moses in the waste plains of Moab,—by Jordan, near Jericho, saying:
Y HABLÓ Jehová á Moisés en los campos de Moab, junto al Jordán de Jericó, diciendo:
And the LORD spake unto Moses in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho, saying,
The LORD spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho, saying,
Command the sons of Israel, that they give unto the Levites—out of the inheritance which they possess—cities to dwell in,—pasture land also unto the cities, round about them, shall ye give unto the Levites.
Command the children of Israel, that they give unto the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to dwell in; and ye shall give also unto the Levites suburbs for the cities round about them.
“Command the children of Israel to give to the Levites cities to dwell in out of their inheritance. You shall give pasture lands for the cities around them to the Levites.
So shall the cities be theirs, to dwell in,—and their pasture lands, shall, be for their cattle and for their goods and for all their beasts.
And the cities shall they have to dwell in; and the suburbs of them shall be for their cattle, and for their goods, and for all their beasts.
They shall have the cities to dwell in. Their pasture lands shall be for their livestock, and for their possessions, and for all their animals.
And, the pasture lands of the cities which ye shall give unto the Levite, shall be,—from the wall of the city, and outwards, a thousand cubits round about
And the suburbs of the cities, which ye shall give unto the Levites, shall reach from the wall of the city and outward a thousand cubits round about.
“The pasture lands of the cities, which you shall give to the Levites, shall be from the wall of the city and outward one thousand cubits around it.
So ye shall measure—on the outside of the city—the eastward quarter two thousand by the cubit, and the south quarter two thousand by the cubit, and the west quarter two thousand by the cubit and the north quarter two thousand by the cubit, with, the city, in the midst. This, shall be unto them the pasture lands of the cities,
And ye shall measure from without the city on the east side two thousand cubits, and on the south side two thousand cubits, and on the west side two thousand cubits, and on the north side two thousand cubits; and the city shall be in the midst: this shall be to them the suburbs of the cities.
You shall measure outside of the city for the east side two thousand cubits, and for the south side two thousand cubits, and for the west side two thousand cubits, and for the north side two thousand cubits, the city being in the middle. This shall be the pasture lands of their cities.
And, among the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites, shall be the six cities of refuge, which ye shall give that the manslayer may flee thither,—and besides them, ye shall give, forty-two cities,
And among the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites there shall be six cities for refuge, which ye shall appoint for the manslayer, that he may flee thither: and to them ye shall add forty and two cities.
“The cities which you shall give to the Levites, they shall be the six cities of refuge, which you shall give for the man slayer to flee to. Besides them you shall give forty-two cities.
All the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites, shall be forty-eight cities,—them, and their pasture lands,
So all the cities which ye shall give to the Levites shall be forty and eight cities: them shall ye give with their suburbs.
All the cities which you shall give to the Levites shall be forty-eight cities together with their pasture lands.
And as touching the cities which ye shall give out of the possession of the sons of Israel from the many, shall ye take many, and from the few, shall ye take few,—each, according to his inheritance, which they shall inherit, shall give of his cities unto the Levites.
And the cities which ye shall give shall be of the possession of the children of Israel: from them that have many ye shall give many; but from them that have few ye shall give few: every one shall give of his cities unto the Levites according to his inheritance which he inheriteth.
Concerning the cities which you shall give of the possession of the children of Israel, from the many you shall take many, and from the few you shall take few. Everyone according to his inheritance which he inherits shall give some of his cities to the Levites.”
Then spake Yahweh unto Moses, saying:
Y habló Jehová á Moisés, diciendo:
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
The LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
Speak unto the sons of Israel, and thou shalt say unto them,—When ye are passing over the Jordan unto the land of Canaan,
Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come over Jordan into the land of Canaan;
“Speak to the children of Israel, and tell them, ‘When you pass over the Jordan into the land of Canaan,
then shall ye find for you, convenient cities, cities of refuge, shall they be unto you,—and the manslayer, who hath slain a person, by mistake, shall flee thither.
Then ye shall appoint you cities to be cities of refuge for you; that the slayer may flee thither, which killeth any person at unawares.
then you shall appoint for yourselves cities to be cities of refuge for you, that the man slayer who kills any person unwittingly may flee there.
So shall the cities serve you for places of refuge from the redeemer,—that the manslayer may not die, until he has stood before the assembly, for judgment,
And they shall be unto you cities for refuge from the avenger; that the manslayer die not, until he stand before the congregation in judgment.
The cities shall be for your refuge from the avenger, that the man slayer not die until he stands before the congregation for judgment.
And as touching the cities which ye shall give six cities of refuge, shall there be unto you.
And of these cities which ye shall give six cities shall ye have for refuge.
The cities which you shall give shall be for you six cities of refuge.
Three of the cities, shall ye give, on this side the Jordan, and three of the cities, shall ye give in the land of Canaan,—cities of refuge, shall they be.
Ye shall give three cities on this side Jordan, and three cities shall ye give in the land of Canaan, which shall be cities of refuge.
You shall give three cities beyond the Jordan, and you shall give three cities in the land of Canaan. They shall be cities of refuge.
For the sons of Israel and for the sojourner. and for the settler in your midst, shall these six cities serve, as places of refuge,—that any one may flee thither who hath slain a person, by mistake.
These six cities shall be a refuge, both for the children of Israel, and for the stranger, and for the sojourner among them: that every one that killeth any person unawares may flee thither.
These six cities shall be refuge for the children of Israel, for the stranger, and for the foreigner living among them, that everyone who kills any person unwittingly may flee there.
If, then, with an instrument of iron, he smote him, and he died, a manslayer, he is,—a manslayer, shall surely die.
And if he smite him with an instrument of iron, so that he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.
“‘But if he struck him with an instrument of iron, so that he died, he is a murderer. The murderer shall surely be put to death.
Or if with a stone thrown by hand, where-by one might die, he smote him and he died, a manslayer, he is,—the man-slayer, shall surely die,
And if he smite him with throwing a stone, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.
If he struck him with a stone in the hand, by which a man may die, and he died, he is a murderer. The murderer shall surely be put to death.
Or, if with hand-weapon of wood, wherewith one might die, he smote him and he died a manslayer, he is,—the manslayer shall surely die.
Or if he smite him with an hand weapon of wood, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.
Or if he struck him with a weapon of wood in the hand, by which a man may die, and he died, he is a murderer. The murderer shall surely be put to death.
The blood-redeemer, he, shall put to death the man-slayer,—when he lighteth upon him, he, shall put him to death.
The revenger of blood himself shall slay the murderer: when he meeteth him, he shall slay him.
The avenger of blood shall himself put the murderer to death. When he meets him, he shall put him to death.
Or if with hate, he shall thrust at him, or hurl at him designedly, and he have died,
Y si por odio lo empujó, ó echó sobre él alguna cosa por asechanzas, y muere;
But if he thrust him of hatred, or hurl at him by laying of wait, that he die;
If he shoved him out of hatred, or hurled something at him while lying in wait, so that he died,
or if with enmity, he hath smitten him with his hand and he is dead, then shall he that dealt the blow, be surely put to death. a manslayer, he is—the blood-redeemer shall put to death the man-slayer, when he lighteth upon him.
Or in enmity smite him with his hand, that he die: he that smote him shall surely be put to death; for he is a murderer: the revenger of blood shall slay the murderer, when he meeteth him.
or in hostility struck him with his hand, so that he died, he who struck him shall surely be put to death. He is a murderer. The avenger of blood shall put the murderer to death when he meets him.
But if suddenly, without enmity, he shall thrust him, or hurl upon him any missile, without design;
But if he thrust him suddenly without enmity, or have cast upon him any thing without laying of wait,
“‘But if he shoved him suddenly without hostility, or hurled on him anything without lying in wait,
Or with any stone whereby one might die without seeing him, and it fall upon him, and he dieth; he, not being at enmity with him, nor seeking to harm him,
O bien, sin verlo, hizo caer sobre él alguna piedra, de que pudo morir, y muriere, y él no era su enemigo, ni procuraba su mal;
Or with any stone, wherewith a man may die, seeing him not, and cast it upon him, that he die, and was not his enemy, neither sought his harm:
or with any stone, by which a man may die, not seeing him, and cast it on him so that he died, and he was not his enemy and not seeking his harm,
then shall the assembly judge, between him that smote and the blood-redeemer,—according to these regulations;
Then the congregation shall judge between the slayer and the revenger of blood according to these judgments:
then the congregation shall judge between the striker and the avenger of blood according to these ordinances.
and the assembly shall rescue the manslayer out of the hand of the blood-redeemer, and the assembly shall restore him unto his city of refuge whither he had fled,—and he shall dwell therein until the death of the high priest, who hath been anointed with the hallowing oil.
And the congregation shall deliver the slayer out of the hand of the revenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to the city of his refuge, whither he was fled: and he shall abide in it unto the death of the high priest, which was anointed with the holy oil.
The congregation shall deliver the man slayer out of the hand of the avenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to his city of refuge, where he had fled. He shall dwell therein until the death of the high priest, who was anointed with the holy oil.
But if the man-slayer, go out, of the bounds of his city of refuge, whereinto he hath fled;
But if the slayer shall at any time come without the border of the city of his refuge, whither he was fled;
“‘But if the man slayer shall at any time go beyond the border of his city of refuge where he flees,
and the blood-redeemer, find him, outside the bounds of his city of refuge, then may the blood-redeemer slay the slayer, without being guilty of blood;
And the revenger of blood find him without the borders of the city of his refuge, and the revenger of blood kill the slayer; he shall not be guilty of blood:
and the avenger of blood finds him outside of the border of his city of refuge, and the avenger of blood kills the man slayer, he shall not be guilty of blood,
for in his city of refuge, should he have remained, until the death of the high priest,—and, after the death of the high priest, might he have returned into the land which he doth possess.
Because he should have remained in the city of his refuge until the death of the high priest: but after the death of the high priest the slayer shall return into the land of his possession.
because he should have remained in his city of refuge until the death of the high priest. But after the death of the high priest, the man slayer shall return into the land of his possession.
So shall these serve you as a regulative statute unto your generations,—wheresoever ye may dwell.
So these things shall be for a statute of judgment unto you throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
“‘These things shall be for a statute and ordinance to you throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
Whosoever taketh away life, at the mouth of witnesses, shall, the slayer be slain,—but, one witness, shall not testify against a person, to put him to death.
Whoso killeth any person, the murderer shall be put to death by the mouth of witnesses: but one witness shall not testify against any person to cause him to die.
“‘Whoever kills any person, the murderer shall be slain based on the testimony of witnesses; but one witness shall not testify alone against any person so that he dies.
And ye shall accept no ransom for the life of him that slayeth, if he have unlawfully caused death,—but he, must surely be put to death.
Moreover ye shall take no satisfaction for the life of a murderer, which is guilty of death: but he shall be surely put to death.
“‘Moreover you shall take no ransom for the life of a murderer who is guilty of death. He shall surely be put to death.
And ye shall accept no ransom for him that hath fled to his city of refuge, if he should return to dwell in the land before the death of the priest.
And ye shall take no satisfaction for him that is fled to the city of his refuge, that he should come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.
“‘You shall take no ransom for him who has fled to his city of refuge, that he may come again to dwell in the land before the death of the priest.
So shall ye not pollute the land wherein ye are, for blood, doth pollute the land, and for the land, no propitiatory-covering can be made, as touching blood, that is shed therein, save with the blood of him that shed it;
So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are: for blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.
“‘So you shall not pollute the land where you live; for blood pollutes the land. No atonement can be made for the land for the blood that is shed in it, but by the blood of him who shed it.
thou must not then make unclean the land wherein, ye, are dwelling, in the midst of which, I, have my habitation; for, I,—Yahweh, am making my habitation in the midst of the sons of Israel.
Defile not therefore the land which ye shall inhabit, wherein I dwell: for I the LORD dwell among the children of Israel.
You shall not defile the land which you inhabit, where I dwell; for I, the LORD, dwell among the children of Israel.’”
