Cuando Israel llegó a la tierra de Jazer y Galaad, las tribus de Rubén y Gad (que tenían grandes rebaños de ovejas) notaron que era un país hermoso para el pastoreo,
Y LOS hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad tenían una muy grande muchedumbre de ganado; los cuales viendo la tierra de Jazer y de Galaad, parecióles el país lugar de ganado.
Now the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle: and when they saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead, that, behold, the place was a place for cattle;

y se presentaron ante Moisés, Eleazar el sacerdote y los demás jefes de las tribus y dijeron:
Y vinieron los hijos de Gad y los hijos de Rubén, y hablaron á Moisés, y á Eleazar el sacerdote, y á los príncipes de la congregación, diciendo:

―El Señor ha usado a Israel para destruir a los pueblos de todo el país: Atarot, Dibón, Jazer, Nimrá, Hesbón, Elalé, Sebán, Nebo y Beón.

Es una excelente tierra para el pastoreo, ideal para nuestros ganados.
La tierra que Jehová hirió delante de la congregación de Israel, es tierra de ganado, y tus siervos tienen ganado.
Even the country which the LORD smote before the congregation of Israel, is a land for cattle, and thy servants have cattle:
the land which the LORD struck before the congregation of Israel, is a land for livestock; and your servants have livestock.”
Permítasenos tener esta tierra como porción nuestra en vez de tener parte al otro lado del río Jordán.
Por tanto, dijeron, si hallamos gracia en tus ojos, dése esta tierra á tus siervos en heredad, y no nos hagas pasar el Jordán.
Wherefore, said they, if we have found grace in thy sight, let this land be given unto thy servants for a possession, and bring us not over Jordan.
They said, “If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants for a possession. Don’t bring us over the Jordan.”
―¿Quieren decir que desean establecerse aquí, mientras sus hermanos van al otro lado del Jordán y realizan la conquista? —preguntó Moisés—.
Y respondió Moisés á los hijos de Gad y á los hijos de Rubén: ¿Vendrán vuestros hermanos á la guerra, y vosotros os quedaréis aquí?
And Moses said unto the children of Gad and to the children of Reuben, Shall your brethren go to war, and shall ye sit here?

¿Están tratando de desalentar al resto del pueblo para que no pase al otro lado, a la tierra que el Señor les ha dado?
¿Y por qué prevenís el ánimo de los hijos de Israel, para que no pasen á la tierra que les ha dado Jehová?
And wherefore discourage ye the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the LORD hath given them?

Esto es lo mismo que hicieron sus padres. Los envié desde Cades a explorar la tierra,
Así hicieron vuestros padres, cuando los envié desde Cades-barnea para que viesen la tierra.

pero cuando acabaron la investigación y regresaron del valle de Escol, desalentaron al pueblo, y este no quiso entrar en la Tierra prometida.
Que subieron hasta la arroyada de Escol, y después que vieron la tierra, preocuparon el ánimo de los hijos de Israel, para que no viniesen á la tierra que Jehová les había dado.

Entonces la ira del Señor se encendió en contra de ellos,

y juró que de los que habían salido de Egipto, ninguno que tuviera más de veinte años entraría en la Tierra que había prometido a Abraham, Isaac y Jacob, porque se habían negado a hacer la voluntad del Señor.
Que no verán los varones que subieron de Egipto de veinte años arriba, la tierra por la cual juré á Abraham, Isaac, y Jacob, por cuanto no fueron perfectos en pos de mí;
Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me:

Las únicas excepciones fueron Caleb (hijo de Jefone el cenezeo), y Josué (hijo de Nun), porque de todo corazón siguieron al Señor.
Excepto Caleb, hijo de Jephone Cenezeo, y Josué hijo de Nun, que fueron perfectos en pos de Jehová.
Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua the son of Nun: for they have wholly followed the LORD.

Entonces el Señor hizo que regresáramos y peregrináramos por el desierto durante cuarenta años hasta que toda la generación perversa hubo muerto.
Y el furor de Jehová se encendió en Israel, é hízolos andar errantes cuarenta años por el desierto, hasta que fué acabada toda aquella generación, que había hecho mal delante de Jehová.
And the LORD’s anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of the LORD, was consumed.

»Y ahora ustedes, descendientes de tales pecadores, pretenden hacer lo mismo. De modo que la ira del Señor se encenderá contra Israel con mayor furor esta vez.
Y he aquí vosotros habéis sucedido en lugar de vuestros padres, prole de hombres pecadores, para añadir aún á la ira de Jehová contra Israel.
And, behold, ye are risen up in your fathers’ stead, an increase of sinful men, to augment yet the fierce anger of the LORD toward Israel.
“Behold, you have risen up in your fathers’ place, an increase of sinful men, to increase the fierce anger of the LORD toward Israel.
Si ustedes se apartan de Dios de esta manera, él hará que el pueblo esté más tiempo en el desierto, y ustedes serán los culpables de la destrucción de este pueblo y de haber traído el desastre sobre toda la nación.
Si os volviereis de en pos de él, él volverá otra vez á dejaros en el desierto, y destruiréis á todo este pueblo.
For if ye turn away from after him, he will yet again leave them in the wilderness; and ye shall destroy all this people.

―De ninguna manera —explicaron ellos—. Queremos construir rediles para nuestros ganados y ciudades para nuestros pequeños,
Entonces ellos se llegaron á él y dijeron: Edificaremos aquí majadas para nuestro ganado, y ciudades para nuestros niños;
And they came near unto him, and said, We will build sheepfolds here for our cattle, and cities for our little ones:

pero nosotros iremos con nuestras armas adelante del resto del pueblo de Israel hasta que hayamos tomado posesión de la herencia que a ellos les corresponde. Pero primero necesitamos construir ciudades amuralladas para nuestras familias, para que ellos estén a salvo de los ataques de los habitantes de los alrededores.
Y nosotros nos armaremos, é iremos con diligencia delante de los hijos de Israel, hasta que los metamos en su lugar: y nuestros niños quedarán en ciudades fuertes á causa de los moradores del país.
But we ourselves will go ready armed before the children of Israel, until we have brought them unto their place: and our little ones shall dwell in the fenced cities because of the inhabitants of the land.

No nos estableceremos aquí hasta que el pueblo de Israel haya recibido el total de su heredad.
No volveremos á nuestras casas hasta que los hijos de Israel posean cada uno su heredad.
We will not return unto our houses, until the children of Israel have inherited every man his inheritance.

No queremos tierra en la otra orilla del Jordán. Más bien la queremos a este lado, en la ribera oriental.
Porque no tomaremos heredad con ellos al otro lado del Jordán ni adelante, por cuanto tendremos ya nuestra heredad de estotra parte del Jordán al oriente.
For we will not inherit with them on yonder side Jordan, or forward; because our inheritance is fallen to us on this side Jordan eastward.
For we will not inherit with them on the other side of the Jordan and beyond, because our inheritance has come to us on this side of the Jordan eastward.”
Entonces Moisés dijo: ―De acuerdo. Hagan lo que prometen y vayan a hacer la guerra,
Entonces les respondió Moisés: Si lo hiciereis así, si os apercibiereis para ir delante de Jehová á la guerra,
And Moses said unto them, If ye will do this thing, if ye will go armed before the LORD to war,
Moses said to them: “If you will do this thing, if you will arm yourselves to go before the LORD to the war,
y crucen con sus soldados al otro lado del Jordán hasta que el Señor haya expulsado a todos los enemigos,
Y pasareis todos vosotros armados el Jordán delante de Jehová, hasta que haya echado á sus enemigos de delante de sí,
And will go all of you armed over Jordan before the LORD, until he hath driven out his enemies from before him,
and every one of your armed men will pass over the Jordan before the LORD until he has driven out his enemies from before him,
y cuando la tierra finalmente haya sido sometida al Señor, quedarán libres del deber delante del Señor y delante del resto del pueblo de Israel, y la tierra de la orilla oriental será de ustedes ante el Señor.
Y sea el país sojuzgado delante de Jehová; luego volveréis, y seréis libres de culpa para con Jehová, y para con Israel; y esta tierra será vuestra en heredad delante de Jehová.
And the land be subdued before the LORD: then afterward ye shall return, and be guiltless before the LORD, and before Israel; and this land shall be your possession before the LORD.

»Pero si no cumplen lo que han prometido, pecarán contra el Señor, y pagarán las consecuencias.
Mas si así no lo hiciereis, he aquí habréis pecado á Jehová; y sabed que os alcanzará vuestro pecado.
But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out.

Vayan y edifiquen ciudades para sus familias y rediles para sus rebaños. Hagan todo lo que han dicho.
Edificaos ciudades para vuestros niños, y majadas para vuestras ovejas, y haced lo que ha salido de vuestra boca.
Build you cities for your little ones, and folds for your sheep; and do that which hath proceeded out of your mouth.

―Seguiremos tus instrucciones al pie de la letra —respondieron los descendientes de Gad y Rubén—.
Y hablaron los hijos de Gad y los hijos de Rubén á Moisés, diciendo: Tus siervos harán como mi señor ha mandado.
And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben spake unto Moses, saying, Thy servants will do as my lord commandeth.
The children of Gad and the children of Reuben spoke to Moses, saying, “Your servants will do as my lord commands.
Nuestros hijos, nuestras esposas, los rebaños y el ganado quedarán aquí en las ciudades de Galaad.
Nuestros niños, nuestras mujeres, nuestros ganados, y todas nuestras bestias, estarán ahí en las ciudades de Galaad;
Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our cattle, shall be there in the cities of Gilead:
Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our livestock shall be there in the cities of Gilead;
Pero todos nosotros nos alistaremos para ir a pelear por el Señor como tú lo has dicho.
Y tus siervos, armados todos de guerra, pasarán delante de Jehová á la guerra, de la manera que mi señor dice.
But thy servants will pass over, every man armed for war, before the LORD to battle, as my lord saith.
but your servants will pass over, every man who is armed for war, before the LORD to battle, as my lord says.”
Entonces Moisés les dijo a Eleazar, a Josué y a los jefes de las tribus de Israel:
Entonces los encomendó Moisés á Eleazar el sacerdote, y á Josué hijo de Nun, y á los príncipes de los padres de las tribus de los hijos de Israel.
So concerning them Moses commanded Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the chief fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel:
So Moses commanded concerning them to Eleazar the priest, and to Joshua the son of Nun, and to the heads of the fathers’ households of the tribes of the children of Israel.
―Si todos estos hombres de las tribus de Gad y Rubén que se han alistado para pelear las batallas del Señor van con ustedes al otro lado del Jordán, recibirán la tierra cuando termine la conquista.
Y díjoles Moisés: Si los hijos de Gad y los hijos de Rubén, pasaren con vosotros el Jordán, armados todos de guerra delante de Jehová, luego que el país fuere sojuzgado delante de vosotros, les daréis la tierra de Galaad en posesión:
And Moses said unto them, If the children of Gad and the children of Reuben will pass with you over Jordan, every man armed to battle, before the LORD, and the land shall be subdued before you; then ye shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession:
Moses said to them, “If the children of Gad and the children of Reuben will pass with you over the Jordan, every man who is armed to battle before the LORD, and the land is subdued before you, then you shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession;
Pero si se niegan a acompañarlos deben aceptar un terreno entre los demás en la tierra de Canaán.
Mas si no pasaren armados con vosotros, entonces tendrán posesión entre vosotros en la tierra de Canaán.
But if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan.
but if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan.”
Las tribus de Gad y Rubén dijeron entonces: ―Haremos como el Señor ha ordenado.
Y los hijos de Gad y los hijos de Rubén respondieron, diciendo: Haremos lo que Jehová ha dicho á tus siervos.
And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben answered, saying, As the LORD hath said unto thy servants, so will we do.

Seguiremos al Señor armados y entraremos en la tierra de Canaán, pero nuestra tierra estará aquí, en este lado del Jordán.
Nosotros pasaremos armados delante de Jehová á la tierra de Canaán, y la posesión de nuestra heredad será de esta parte del Jordán.
We will pass over armed before the LORD into the land of Canaan, that the possession of our inheritance on this side Jordan may be ours.
We will pass over armed before the LORD into the land of Canaan, and the possession of our inheritance shall remain with us beyond the Jordan.”
Entonces Moisés asignó el territorio de Sijón rey de los amorreos y del rey Og de Basán, incluso sus ciudades, a las tribus de Gad, Rubén y Manasés (hijo de José).
Así les dió Moisés á los hijos de Gad y á los hijos de Rubén, y á la media tribu de Manasés hijo de José, el reino de Sehón rey Amorrheo, y el reino de Og rey de Basán, la tierra con sus ciudades y términos, las ciudades del país alrededor.
And Moses gave unto them, even to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, and unto half the tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, with the cities thereof in the coasts, even the cities of the country round about.

El pueblo de Gad construyó las siguientes ciudades: Dibón, Atarot, Aroer, Atarot Sofán, Jazer, Yogbea, Bet Nimrá y Bet Arán. Todas estas eran ciudades fortificadas y tenían rediles para las ovejas.
Y los hijos de Gad edificaron á Dibón, y á Ataroth, y á Aroer,

Los hijos de Rubén edificaron las siguientes ciudades: Hesbón, Elealé, Quiriatayim,

Nebo, Baal Megón y Sibma. (Los israelitas después cambiaron los nombres de algunas de estas ciudades que habían conquistado y reconstruido).
Y á Nebo, y á Baal-meón, (mudados los nombres), y á Sibma: y pusieron nombres á las ciudades que edificaron.

El clan de Maquir de la tribu de Manasés fue a Galaad y la conquistó, y expulsó a los amorreos que vivían allí.
