1And afterwards the people set forth from Aseroth, and encamped in the wilderness of Pharan.
2And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
3Send for thee men, and let them spy the land of the Chananites, which I give to the sons of Israel for a possession; one man for a tribe, thou shalt send them away according to their families, every one of them a prince.
4And Moses sent them out of the wilderness of Pharan by the word of the Lord; all these were the princes of the sons of Israel.
5And these are their names: of the tribe of Ruben, Samuel the son of Zachur.
6Of the tribe of Symeon, Saphat the son of Suri.
7Of the tribe of Judah, Chaleb the son of Jephonne.
8Of the tribe of Issachar, Ilaal the son of Joseph.
9Of the tribe of Ephraim, Ause the son of Naue.
10Of the tribe of Benjamin, Phalti the son of Raphu.
11Of the tribe of Zabulon, Gudiel the son of Sudi.
12Of the tribe of Joseph of the sons of Manasse, Gaddi the son of Susi.
13Of the tribe of Dan, Amiel the son of Gamali.
14Of the tribe of Aser, Sathur the son of Michael.
15Of the tribe of Nephthali, Nabi the son of Sabi.
16Of the tribe of Gad, Gudiel the son of Macchi.
17These are the names of the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land; and Moses called Ause the son of Naue, Joshua.
18And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Chanaan, and said to them, Go up by this wilderness; and ye shall go up to the mountain,
19and ye shall see the land, what it is, and the people that dwells on it, whether it is strong or weak, or whether they are few or many.
20And what the land is on which they dwell, whether it is good or bad; and what the cities are wherein these dwell, whether they dwell in walled cities or unwalled.
21And what the land is, whether rich or Gr. q. d. neglected poor; whether there are trees in it or no: and ye shall persevere and take of the fruits of the land: and the days were the days of spring, the forerunners of the grape.
22And they went up and surveyed the land from the wilderness of Sin to Rhoob, as men go in to Æmath.
23And they went up by the wilderness, and departed as far as Chebron; and there was Achiman, and Sessi, and Thelami, the progeny of Enach. Now Chebron was built seven years before Tanin of Egypt.
24And they came to the valley of the cluster and surveyed it; and they cut down thence a bough and one cluster of grapes upon it, and bore it on staves, and they took of the pomegranates and the figs.
25And they called that place, The valley of the cluster, because of the cluster which the children of Israel cut down from thence.
26And they returned from thence, having surveyed the land, after forty days.
27And they proceeded and came to Moses and Aaron and all the congregation of the children of Israel, to the wilderness of Pharan Cades; and they brought word to them and to all the congregation, and they shewed the fruit of the land:
28and they reported to him, and said, We came into the land into which thou sentest us, a land flowing with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.
29Only the nation that dwells upon it is bold, and they have very great and strong walled towns, and we saw there the children of Enach.
30And Amalec dwells in the land toward the south: and the Chettite and the Evite, and the Jebusite, and the Amorite dwells in the hill country: and the Chananite dwells by the sea, and by the river Jordan.
31And Chaleb stayed the people from speaking Or, to before Moses, and said to him, Nay, but we will go up by all means, and will inherit it, for we shall surely prevail against them.
32But the men that went up together with him said, We Gr. do not will not go up, for we shall not by any means be able to go up against the nation, for it is much stronger than we.
33And they brought a horror of that land which they surveyed upon the children of Israel, saying, The land which we passed by to survey it, is a land that eats up its inhabitants; and all the people whom we saw in it are men of extraordinary stature.
34And there we saw the giants; and we were before them as locusts, yea even so were we before them.

2Y Jehová habló á Moisés, diciendo:
3Envía tú hombres que reconozcan la tierra de Canaán, la cual yo doy á los hijos de Israel: de cada tribu de sus padres enviaréis un varón, cada uno príncipe entre ellos.
4Y Moisés los envió desde el desierto de Parán, conforme á la palabra de Jehová: y todos aquellos varones eran príncipes de los hijos de Israel.
5Los nombres de los cuales son éstos: De la tribu de Rubén, Sammua hijo de Zaccur.

17Estos son los nombres de los varones que Moisés envió á reconocer la tierra: y á Oseas hijo de Nun, le puso Moisés el nombre de Josué.
18Enviólos, pues, Moisés á reconocer la tierra de Canaán, diciéndoles: Subid por aquí, por el mediodía, y subid al monte:
19Y observad la tierra qué tal es; y el pueblo que la habita, si es fuerte ó débil, si poco ó numeroso;
20Qué tal la tierra habitada, si es buena ó mala; y qué tales son las ciudades habitadas, si de tiendas ó de fortalezas;
21Y cuál sea el terreno, si es pingüe ó flaco, si en él hay ó no árboles: y esforzaos, y coged del fruto del país. Y el tiempo era el tiempo de las primeras uvas.
22Y ellos subieron, y reconocieron la tierra desde el desierto de Zin hasta Rehob, entrando en Emath.
23Y subieron por el mediodía, y vinieron hasta Hebrón: y allí estaban Aimán, y Sesai, y Talmai, hijos de Anac. Hebrón fué edificada siete años antes de Zoán, la de Egipto.
24Y llegaron hasta el arroyo de Escol, y de allí cortaron un sarmiento con un racimo de uvas, el cual trajeron dos en un palo, y de las granadas y de los higos.
25Y llamóse aquel lugar Nahal-escol, por el racimo que cortaron de allí los hijos de Israel.
26Y volvieron de reconocer la tierra al cabo de cuarenta días.
27Y anduvieron y vinieron á Moisés y á Aarón, y á toda la congregación de los hijos de Israel, en el desierto de Parán, en Cades, y diéronles la respuesta, y á toda la congregación, y les mostraron el fruto de la tierra.
28Y le contaron, y dijeron: Nosotros llegamos á la tierra á la cual nos enviaste, la que ciertamente fluye leche y miel; y este es el fruto de ella.
29Mas el pueblo que habita aquella tierra es fuerte, y las ciudades muy grandes y fuertes; y también vimos allí los hijos de Anac.
30Amalec habita la tierra del mediodía; y el Hetheo, y el Jebuseo, y el Amorrheo, habitan en el monte; y el Cananeo habita junto á la mar, y á la ribera del Jordán.
31Entonces Caleb hizo callar el pueblo delante de Moisés, y dijo: Subamos luego, y poseámosla; que más podremos que ella.
32Mas los varones que subieron con él, dijeron: No podremos subir contra aquel pueblo; porque es más fuerte que nosotros.
33Y vituperaron entre los hijos de Israel la tierra que habían reconocido, diciendo: La tierra por donde pasamos para reconocerla, es tierra que traga á sus moradores; y todo el pueblo que vimos en medio de ella, son hombres de grande estatura. También vimos allí gigantes, hijos de Anac, raza de los gigantes: y éramos nosotros, á nuestro parecer, como langostas; y así les parecíamos á ellos.

1And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
2Send thou men, that they may search the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, every one a ruler among them.
3And Moses by the commandment of the LORD sent them from the wilderness of Paran: all those men were heads of the children of Israel.
4And these were their names: of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur.
5Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori.
6Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.
7Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph.

18And see the land, what it is; and the people that dwelleth therein, whether they be strong or weak, few or many;
19And what the land is that they dwell in, whether it be good or bad; and what cities they be that they dwell in, whether in tents, or in strong holds;
20And what the land is, whether it be fat or lean, whether there be wood therein, or not. And be ye of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the time of the firstripe grapes.
21So they went up, and searched the land from the wilderness of Zin unto Rehob, as men come to Hamath.
22And they ascended by the south, and came unto Hebron; where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)
23And they came unto the brook of Eshcol, and cut down from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bare it between two upon a staff; and they brought of the pomegranates, and of the figs.
24The place was called the brook Eshcol, because of the cluster of grapes which the children of Israel cut down from thence.
25And they returned from searching of the land after forty days.
26And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and shewed them the fruit of the land.
27And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.
28Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.
29The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Jordan.
30And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.
31But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.
32And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.
33And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
