1Der Bericht des Chakaljasohnes Nehemias. Es war im Monat Kislev im Jahre zwanzig, daß ich zu Susan in der Burg weilte.
2Da kam einer meiner Brüder, Chanani, mit Männern aus Judäa. Ich fragte sie nach den Judäern, den Entronnenen, die vor der Gefangenschaft bewahrt worden waren, und nach Jerusalem.
3Sie gaben mir Bescheid: "Die Zurückgebliebenen, die dort vor der Gefangenschaft in den Landstädten verschont geblieben sind, befinden sich in großer Not und Schmach. Die Mauer von Jerusalem liegt in Trümmern, und seine Tore sind verbrannt."
4Als ich diese Worte hörte, setzte ich mich hin, weinte und trauerte eine Zeitlang. Ich fastete und betete vor dem Himmelsgott.
5Dann sprach ich: "Herr, Gott des Himmels!Du großer, fürchterlicher Gott!Du hältst den gnadenvollen Bund all denen, die Dich liebenund Dein Geheiß befolgen.
6Leih doch Dein Ohr! Laß Deine Augen offen sein,auf daß Du Deines Knechts Gebet erhörst,das ich jetzt Tag und Nacht vor Dir verrichtefür Deine Knechte, für die Söhne Israels.Ich beichte die Verschuldungen der Söhne Israels,die wir so gegen Dich gesündigt haben,ich selbst und meines Vaters Haus.
7Wir haben Dich beleidigtund nicht gewahrt Gebote und Gesetze, Rechte,die Du dem Moses, Deinem Diener, aufgetragen.
8Gedenke doch des Wortes,das Du dem Moses, Deinem Knecht, befohlen:'Begeht ihr Untreue,zerstreu ich euch unter die Nationen.
9Bekehrt ihr euch jedoch zu mirund haltet und befolgt, was ich geboten,dann bringe ich zusammen eure Vertriebenen,und wenn sie selbst am Himmelsende wären,und führe sie zur Stätte hin,die ich zum Wohnsitz meines Namens auserkoren.'
10Denn sie sind Deine Knechte und Dein Volk,das Du befreit mit Deiner großen Kraft und Deinem starken Arm.
11Ach, Herr! Laß doch Dein Ohr vernehmendas Flehen Deines Dieners und das Flehen Deiner Diener,die begehren, Deinen Namen zu verehren!Laß Deinem Diener heute es gelingen!Und schenke ihm vor diesem Manne Gnade!" - Ich aber war der Mundschenk beim König.

1PALABRAS de Nehemías, hijo de Hachâlías. Y acaeció en el mes de Chisleu, en el año veinte, estando yo en Susán, capital del reino,
2Que vino Hanani, uno de mis hermanos, él y ciertos varones de Judá, y preguntéles por los Judíos que habían escapado, que habían quedado de la cautividad, y por Jerusalem.
3Y dijéronme: El residuo, los que quedaron de la cautividad allí en la provincia, están en gran mal y afrenta, y el muro de Jerusalem derribado, y sus puertas quemadas á fuego.
4Y fué que, como yo oí estas palabras, sentéme y lloré, y enlutéme por algunos días, y ayuné y oré delante del Dios de los cielos.
5Y dije: Ruégote, oh Jehová, Dios de los cielos, fuerte, grande, y terrible, que guarda el pacto y la misericordia á los que le aman y guardan sus mandamientos;
6Esté ahora atento tu oído, y tus ojos abiertos, para oir la oración de tu siervo, que yo hago ahora delante de ti día y noche, por los hijos de Israel tus siervos; y confieso los pecados de los hijos de Israel que hemos contra ti cometido; sí, yo y la casa de mi padre hemos pecado.
7En extremo nos hemos corrompido contra ti, y no hemos guardado los mandamientos, y estatutos y juicios, que mandaste á Moisés tu siervo.
8Acuérdate ahora de la palabra que ordenaste á Moisés tu siervo, diciendo: Vosotros prevaricaréis, y yo os esparciré por los pueblos:
9Mas os volveréis á mí, y guardaréis mis mandamientos, y los pondréis por obra. Si fuere vuestro lanzamiento hasta el cabo de los cielos, de allí os juntaré; y traerlos he al lugar que escogí para hacer habitar allí mi nombre.
10Ellos pues son tus siervos y tu pueblo, los cuales redimiste con tu gran fortaleza, y con tu mano fuerte.
11Ruégote, oh Jehová, esté ahora atento tu oído á la oración de tu siervo, y á la oración de tus siervos, quienes desean temer tu nombre: y ahora concede hoy próspero suceso á tu siervo, y dale gracia delante de aquel varón. Porque yo servía de copero al rey.

1The words of Nehemiah the son of Hachaliah. And it came to pass in the month Chisleu, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace,
2That Hanani, one of my brethren, came, he and certain men of Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews that had escaped, which were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.
3And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.
4And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven,
5And said, I beseech thee, O LORD God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments:
6Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father’s house have sinned.
7We have dealt very corruptly against thee, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the judgments, which thou commandedst thy servant Moses.
8Remember, I beseech thee, the word that thou commandedst thy servant Moses, saying, If ye transgress, I will scatter you abroad among the nations:
9But if ye turn unto me, and keep my commandments, and do them; though there were of you cast out unto the uttermost part of the heaven, yet will I gather them from thence, and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen to set my name there.
10Now these are thy servants and thy people, whom thou hast redeemed by thy great power, and by thy strong hand.
11O Lord, I beseech thee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who desire to fear thy name: and prosper, I pray thee, thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was the king’s cupbearer.

1The words of Nehemiah the son of Hacaliah. Now in the month Chislev, in the twentieth year, as I was in Susa the palace,
2Hanani, one of my brothers, came, he and certain men out of Judah; and I asked them about the Jews who had escaped, who were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.
3They said to me, “The remnant who are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach. The wall of Jerusalem is also broken down, and its gates are burned with fire.”
4When I heard these words, I sat down and wept, and mourned several days; and I fasted and prayed before the God of heaven,
5and said, “I beg you, LORD, the God of heaven, the great and awesome God who keeps covenant and loving kindness with those who love him and keep his commandments,
6let your ear now be attentive and your eyes open, that you may listen to the prayer of your servant which I pray before you at this time, day and night, for the children of Israel your servants, while I confess the sins of the children of Israel which we have sinned against you. Yes, I and my father’s house have sinned.
7We have dealt very corruptly against you, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the ordinances, which you commanded your servant Moses.
8“Remember, I beg you, the word that you commanded your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you trespass, I will scatter you among the peoples;
9but if you return to me, and keep my commandments and do them, though your outcasts were in the uttermost part of the heavens, yet I will gather them from there, and will bring them to the place that I have chosen, to cause my name to dwell there.’
10“Now these are your servants and your people, whom you have redeemed by your great power and by your strong hand.
11Lord, I beg you, let your ear be attentive now to the prayer of your servant, and to the prayer of your servants who delight to fear your name; and please prosper your servant today, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man.” Now I was cup bearer to the king.
