1UND er ging von dort weg und kam in seine Vaterstadt, und seine Jünger folgten ihm nach.
2Und als es Sabbat war, fing er an, in der Synagoge zu lehren. Und die Menge, die zuhörte, erstaunte und sagte: Woher hat der das, und was ist das für eine Weisheit, die ihm gegeben ist? Und solche machtvolle Taten geschehen durch seine Hände?
3Ist dieser nicht der Zimmermann, der Sohn der Maria und der Bruder des Jakobus und Joses und Judas und Simon, und sind nicht seine Schwestern hier bei uns? Und sie nahmen Anstoss an ihm.
4Da sprach Jesus zu ihnen: Ein Prophet ist nirgends verachtet ausser in seiner Vaterstadt und bei seinen Verwandten und in seinem Hause. (a) Joh 7:5
5Und er konnte dort keine Machttat vollbringen, ausser dass er wenigen Kranken die Hände auflegte und sie heilte;
6und er verwunderte sich wegen ihres Unglaubens. Und er zog durch die Dörfer ringsumher und lehrte. (a) Mt 8:10
7UND er rief die Zwölf zu sich und fing an, sie je zwei und zwei auszusenden, und gab ihnen Macht über die unreinen Geister. (a) Mt 10:1
8Und er befahl ihnen, sie sollten nichts mit auf den Weg nehmen als nur einen Stab, kein Brot, keine Tasche, kein Geld im Gürtel,
9sondern (nur) Sandalen an den Füssen; und ziehet, (sprach er,) nicht zwei Röcke an!
10Und er sprach zu ihnen: Wo ihr in ein Haus eintretet, da bleibet, bis ihr von dannen weiterzieht!
11Und wenn ein Ort euch nicht aufnimmt und sie euch nicht anhören, so ziehet von dort weiter und schüttelt den Staub ab, der euch an den Sohlen hängt, ihnen zum Zeugnis!
12Da zogen sie aus und predigten, man solle Busse tun,
13und trieben viele Dämonen aus, salbten viele Kranke mit Öl und heilten sie. (a) Jak 5:14 15
14UND der König Herodes hörte das; denn sein Name wurde bekannt, und man sagte: Johannes der Täufer ist von den Toten auferweckt worden, und deshalb sind die Wunderkräfte in ihm wirksam. (a) Mr 8:28
15Andre aber sagten: Es ist Elia; noch andre sagten: Er ist ein Prophet wie einer der Propheten.
16Als es aber Herodes hörte, sagte er: Johannes, den ich habe enthaupten lassen, der ist auferweckt worden.
17Er nämlich, Herodes, hatte hingesandt und Johannes festnehmen und ihn im Gefängnis fesseln lassen wegen Herodias, der Frau seines Bruders Philippus, weil er sie geheiratet hatte.
18Denn Johannes hatte zu Herodes gesagt: Es ist dir nicht erlaubt, deines Bruders Frau zu haben. (a) 3Mo 18:16
19Herodias aber stellte ihm nach und hätte ihn gern töten lassen, und sie vermochte es nicht.
20Denn Herodes fürchtete den Johannes, weil er wusste, dass er ein gerechter und heiliger Mann war, und liess ihn bewachen, und wenn er ihn hörte, kam er in schwere Ratlosigkeit, und er hörte ihn gern.
21Und als ein gelegener Tag kam, wo Herodes seinen Würdenträgern und den Kriegsobersten und den Vornehmsten Galiläas an seinem Geburtstag ein Gastmahl gab,
22da trat ihre, der Herodias, Tochter herein und tanzte, und sie gefiel dem Herodes und den Tischgenossen. Der König aber sprach zu dem Mädchen: Bitte mich um was du willst, und ich will es dir geben.
23Und er schwur ihr: Um was du mich auch bitten wirst, das will ich dir geben bis zur Hälfte meines Königreichs. (a) Es 5:3 6
24Da ging sie hinaus und sagte zu ihrer Mutter: Um was soll ich bitten? Die aber sagte: Um das Haupt Johannes des Täufers.
25Und alsbald ging sie eilends zum König hinein und bat: Ich will, dass du mir sogleich auf einer Schüssel das Haupt Johannes des Täufers gibst.
26Da wurde der König sehr betrübt; doch um der Eidschwüre und der Tischgenossen willen wollte er sie nicht abweisen.
27Und der König schickte alsbald einen Soldaten der Leibwache hin und befahl, sein Haupt zu bringen. Da ging dieser hin, enthauptete ihn im Gefängnis,
28brachte sein Haupt auf einer Schüssel und gab es dem Mädchen, und das Mädchen gab es seiner Mutter.
29Als seine Jünger das hörten, kamen sie, nahmen seinen Leichnam und legten ihn in eine Gruft.
30UND die Apostel kamen (wieder) bei Jesus zusammen und berichteten ihm alles, was sie getan und was sie gelehrt hatten. (a) Lu 10:17
31Da sagte er zu ihnen: Kommet ihr allein abseits an einen öden Ort und ruhet ein wenig! Denn es waren viele, die ab und zu gingen, und sie hatten nicht einmal Zeit, zu essen. (a) Mr 3:20
32Und sie fuhren mit dem Schiff abseits an einen öden Ort.
33Und man sah sie wegfahren, und viele merkten es; und sie liefen zu Fuss aus allen Städten dort zusammen und kamen ihnen zuvor. (1) nämlich: dass sie Jesus anderswo suchen müssten.
34Und als er ausstieg, sah er viel Volk, und er fühlte Erbarmen mit ihnen, denn sie waren wie Schafe, die keinen Hirten haben; und er fing an, sie vieles zu lehren. (a) 4Mo 27:17; Mt 9:36
35Und als die Zeit schon sehr vorgerückt war, traten seine Jünger zu ihm und sagten: Der Ort ist öde und die Zeit schon sehr vorgerückt. (a) Mr 8:1-9
36Entlasse sie, damit sie in die Gehöfte und Dörfer ringsumher gehen und sich etwas zu essen kaufen.
37Er aber antwortete und sprach zu ihnen: Gebet ihr ihnen zu essen! Und sie sagten zu ihm: Sollen wir hingehen und für zweihundert Denare Brot kaufen und ihnen zu essen geben?
38Er aber sagte zu ihnen: Wieviel Brote habt ihr? Gehet hin, sehet nach! Und als sie es erkundet hatten, sagten sie: Fünf, und zwei Fische.
39Und er befahl ihnen, alle sich nach Tischgesellschaften ins grüne Gras lagern zu lassen.
40Und sie setzten sich in Gruppen zu hundert und zu fünfzig.
41Da nahm er die fünf Brote und die zwei Fische, blickte zum Himmel auf, sprach das Dankgebet darüber, brach die Brote und gab sie den Jüngern, damit sie sie ihnen vorlegten, und die zwei Fische teilte er unter alle. (a) Mr 7:34; Joh 11:41; 17:1
42Und alle assen und wurden satt.
43Und sie hoben an Brocken zwölf Körbe voll auf, und (dazu auch) von den Fischen.
44Und die die Brote gegessen hatten, waren fünftausend Männer.
45UND alsbald nötigte er seine Jünger, ins Schiff zu steigen und ans jenseitige Ufer nach Bethsaida vorauszufahren, während er (inzwischen) das Volk entlassen wolle.
46Und nachdem er sie verabschiedet hatte, ging er auf den Berg, um zu beten.
47Und als es Abend geworden, war das Schiff mitten auf dem See und er allein auf dem Lande.
48Und wie er sie beim Rudern Not leiden sah - der Wind war ihnen nämlich entgegen -, kam er um die vierte Nachtwache zu ihnen, auf dem See wandelnd, und wollte an ihnen vorübergehen.
49Als sie ihn aber auf dem See wandeln sahen, meinten sie, es sei ein Gespenst, und schrieen auf;
50denn sie sahen ihn alle und erschraken. Er aber redete alsbald mit ihnen und sprach zu ihnen: Seid getrost, ich bin's; fürchtet euch nicht!
51Und er stieg zu ihnen ins Schiff, und der Wind legte sich. Da erstaunten sie bei sich selbst im höchsten Mass; (a) Mr 4:39
52denn sie waren nicht zur Einsicht gekommen bei den Broten, sondern ihr Herz war verhärtet. (a) Mr 8:17; Mt 16:9
53UND nachdem sie ans Land hinübergefahren waren, kamen sie nach Gennesaret und legten an.
54Und als sie aus dem Schiffe stiegen, erkannten ihn die Leute alsbald,
55und sie liefen in jener ganzen Landschaft umher und fingen an, die Kranken auf den Betten hierhin und dorthin zu tragen, wo sie hörten, dass er (gerade) sei.
56Und wo er in Dörfer oder Städte oder Gehöfte hineinging, legten sie die Kranken auf die Marktplätze und baten ihn, dass sie auch nur die Quaste seines Kleides anrühren dürften. Und alle, die sie anrührten, wurden gesund. (a) Mr 5:27 28; Apg 5:15; 19:11 12

1Y SALIÓ de allí, y vino á su tierra, y le siguieron sus discípulos.
2Y llegado el sábado, comenzó á enseñar en la sinagoga; y muchos oyéndole, estaban atónitos, diciendo: ¿De dónde tiene éste estas cosas? ¿Y qué sabiduría es ésta que le es dada, y tales maravillas que por sus manos son hechas?
3¿No es éste el carpintero, hijo de María, hermano de Jacobo, y de José, y de Judas, y de Simón? ¿No están también aquí con nosotros, sus hermanas? Y se escandalizaban en él.
4Mas Jesús les decía: No hay profeta deshonrado sino en su tierra, y entre sus parientes, y en su casa.
5Y no pudo hacer allí alguna maravilla; solamente sanó unos pocos enfermos, poniendo sobre ellos las manos.
6Y estaba maravillado de la incredulidad de ellos. Y rodeaba las aldeas de alrededor, enseñando.
7Y llamó á los doce, y comenzó á enviarlos de dos en dos: y les dió potestad sobre los espíritus inmundos.
8Y les mandó que no llevasen nada para el camino, sino solamente báculo; no alforja, ni pan, ni dinero en la bolsa;
9Mas que calzasen sandalias, y no vistiesen dos túnicas.
10Y les decía: Donde quiera que entréis en una casa, posad en ella hasta que salgáis de allí.
11Y todos aquellos que no os recibieren ni os oyeren, saliendo de allí, sacudid el polvo que está debajo de vuestros pies, en testimonio á ellos. De cierto os digo que más tolerable será el castigo de los de Sodoma y Gomorra el día del juicio, que el de aquella ciudad.
12Y saliendo, predicaban que los hombres se arrepintiesen.
13Y echaban fuera muchos demonios, y ungían con aceite á muchos enfermos, y sanaban.
14Y oyó el rey Herodes la fama de Jesús, porque su nombre se había hecho notorio; y dijo: Juan el que bautizaba, ha resucitado de los muertos, y por tanto, virtudes obran en él.
15Otros decían: Elías es. Y otros decían: Profeta es, ó alguno de los profetas.
16Y oyéndolo Herodes, dijo: Este es Juan el que yo degollé: él ha resucitado de los muertos.
17Porque el mismo Herodes había enviado, y prendido á Juan, y le había aprisionado en la cárcel á causa de Herodías, mujer de Felipe su hermano; pues la había tomado por mujer.
18Porque Juan decía á Herodes: No te es lícito tener la mujer de tu hermano.
19Mas Herodías le acechaba, y deseaba matarle, y no podía:
20Porque Herodes temía á Juan, sabiendo que era varón justo y santo, y le tenía respeto: y oyéndole, hacía muchas cosas; y le oía de buena gana.
21Y venido un día oportuno, en que Herodes, en la fiesta de su nacimiento, daba una cena á sus príncipes y tribunos, y á los principales de Galilea;
22Y entrando la hija de Herodías, y danzando, y agradando á Herodes y á los que estaban con él á la mesa, el rey dijo á la muchacha: Pídeme lo que quisieres, que yo te lo daré.
23Y le juró: Todo lo que me pidieres te daré, hasta la mitad de mi reino.
24Y saliendo ella, dijo á su madre: ¿Qué pediré? Y ella dijo: La cabeza de Juan Bautista.
25Entonces ella entró prestamente al rey, y pidió, diciendo: Quiero que ahora mismo me des en un plato la cabeza de Juan Bautista.
26Y el rey se entristeció mucho; mas á causa del juramento, y de los que estaban con él á la mesa, no quiso desecharla.
27Y luego el rey, enviando uno de la guardia, mandó que fuese traída su cabeza;
28El cual fué, y le degolló en la cárcel, y trajo su cabeza en un plato, y la dió á la muchacha, y la muchacha la dió á su madre.
29Y oyéndolo sus discípulos, vinieron y tomaron su cuerpo, y le pusieron en un sepulcro.
30Y los apóstoles se juntaron con Jesús, y le contaron todo lo que habían hecho, y lo que habían enseñado.
31Y él les dijo: Venid vosotros aparte al lugar desierto, y reposad un poco. Porque eran muchos los que iban y venían, que ni aun tenían lugar de comer.
32Y se fueron en un barco al lugar desierto aparte.
33Y los vieron ir muchos, y le conocieron; y concurrieron allá muchos á pie de las ciudades, y llegaron antes que ellos, y se juntaron á él.
34Y saliendo Jesús vió grande multitud, y tuvo compasión de ellos, porque eran como ovejas que no tenían pastor; y les comenzó á enseñar muchas cosas.
35Y como ya fuese el día muy entrado, sus discípulos llegaron á él, diciendo: El lugar es desierto, y el día ya muy entrado;
36Envíalos para que vayan á los cortijos y aldeas de alrededor, y compren para sí pan; porque no tienen qué comer.
37Y respondiendo él, les dijo: Dadles de comer vosotros. Y le dijeron: ¿Que vayamos y compremos pan por doscientos denarios, y les demos de comer?
38Y él les dice: ¿Cuántos panes tenéis? Id, y vedlo. Y sabiéndolo, dijeron: Cinco, y dos peces.
39Y les mandó que hiciesen recostar á todos por partidas sobre la hierba verde.
40Y se recostaron por partidas, de ciento en ciento, y de cincuenta en cincuenta.
41Y tomados los cinco panes y los dos peces, mirando al cielo, bendijo, y partió los panes, y dió á sus discípulos para que los pusiesen delante: y repartió á todos los dos peces.
42Y comieron todos, y se hartaron.
43Y alzaron de los pedazos doce cofines llenos, y de los peces.
44Y los que comieron eran cinco mil hombres.
45Y luego dió priesa á sus discípulos á subir en el barco, é ir delante de él á Bethsaida de la otra parte, entre tanto que él despedía la multitud.
46Y después que los hubo despedido, se fué al monte á orar.
47Y como fué la tarde, el barco estaba en medio de la mar, y él solo en tierra.
48Y los vió fatigados bogando, porque el viento les era contrario: y cerca de la cuarta vigilia de la noche, vino á ellos andando sobre la mar, y quería precederlos.
49Y viéndole ellos, que andaba sobre la mar, pensaron que era fantasma, y dieron voces;
50Porque todos le veían, y se turbaron. Mas luego habló con ellos, y les dijo: Alentaos; yo soy, no temáis.
51Y subió á ellos en el barco, y calmó el viento: y ellos en gran manera estaban fuera de sí, y se maravillaban:
52Porque aun no habían considerado lo de los panes, por cuanto estaban ofuscados sus corazones.
53Y cuando estuvieron de la otra parte, vinieron á tierra de Genezaret, y tomaron puerto.
54Y saliendo ellos del barco, luego le conocieron.
55Y recorriendo toda la tierra de alrededor, comenzaron á traer de todas partes enfermos en lechos, á donde oían que estaba.
56Y donde quiera que entraba, en aldeas, ó ciudades, ó heredades, ponían en las calles á los que estaban enfermos, y le rogaban que tocasen siquiera el borde de su vestido; y todos los que le tocaban quedaban sanos.

1And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him.
2And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?
3Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.
4But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.
5And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.
6And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.
7And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;
8And commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse:
9But be shod with sandals; and not put on two coats.
10And he said unto them, In what place soever ye enter into an house, there abide till ye depart from that place.
11And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
12And they went out, and preached that men should repent.
13And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.
14And king Herod heard of him; (for his name was spread abroad:) and he said, That John the Baptist was risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.
15Others said, That it is Elias. And others said, That it is a prophet, or as one of the prophets.
16But when Herod heard thereof, he said, It is John, whom I beheaded: he is risen from the dead.
17For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for Herodias’ sake, his brother Philip’s wife: for he had married her.
18For John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother’s wife.
19Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against him, and would have killed him; but she could not:
20For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and an holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.
21And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his lords, high captains, and chief estates of Galilee;
22And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee.
23And he sware unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, unto the half of my kingdom.
24And she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.
25And she came in straightway with haste unto the king, and asked, saying, I will that thou give me by and by in a charger the head of John the Baptist.
26And the king was exceeding sorry; yet for his oath’s sake, and for their sakes which sat with him, he would not reject her.
27And immediately the king sent an executioner, and commanded his head to be brought: and he went and beheaded him in the prison,
28And brought his head in a charger, and gave it to the damsel: and the damsel gave it to her mother.
29And when his disciples heard of it, they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb.
30And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught.
31And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.
32And they departed into a desert place by ship privately.
33And the people saw them departing, and many knew him, and ran afoot thither out of all cities, and outwent them, and came together unto him.
34And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.
35And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him, and said, This is a desert place, and now the time is far passed:
36Send them away, that they may go into the country round about, and into the villages, and buy themselves bread: for they have nothing to eat.
37He answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, Shall we go and buy two hundred pennyworth of bread, and give them to eat?
38He saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes.
39And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass.
40And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties.
41And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all.
42And they did all eat, and were filled.
43And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments, and of the fishes.
44And they that did eat of the loaves were about five thousand men.
45And straightway he constrained his disciples to get into the ship, and to go to the other side before unto Bethsaida, while he sent away the people.
46And when he had sent them away, he departed into a mountain to pray.
47And when even was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land.
48And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them.
49But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out:
50For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.
51And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered.
52For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened.
53And when they had passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret, and drew to the shore.
54And when they were come out of the ship, straightway they knew him,
55And ran through that whole region round about, and began to carry about in beds those that were sick, where they heard he was.
56And whithersoever he entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole.

10He said to them, “Wherever you enter into a house, stay there until you depart from there.
11Whoever will not receive you nor hear you, as you depart from there, shake off the dust that is under your feet for a testimony against them. Assuredly, I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!”
12They went out and preached that people should repent.
13They cast out many demons, and anointed many with oil who were sick and healed them.
14King Herod heard this, for his name had become known, and he said, “John the Baptizer has risen from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him.”
15But others said, “He is Elijah.” Others said, “He is a prophet, or like one of the prophets.”
16But Herod, when he heard this, said, “This is John, whom I beheaded. He has risen from the dead.”
17For Herod himself had sent out and arrested John and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, for he had married her.
18For John had said to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”
19Herodias set herself against him and desired to kill him, but she couldn’t,
20for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and kept him safe. When he heard him, he did many things, and he heard him gladly.
21Then a convenient day came when Herod on his birthday made a supper for his nobles, the high officers, and the chief men of Galilee.
22When the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, she pleased Herod and those sitting with him. The king said to the young lady, “Ask me whatever you want, and I will give it to you.”
23He swore to her, “Whatever you ask of me, I will give you, up to half of my kingdom.”
24She went out and said to her mother, “What shall I ask?” She said, “The head of John the Baptizer.”
25She came in immediately with haste to the king and requested, “I want you to give me right now the head of John the Baptizer on a platter.”
26The king was exceedingly sorry, but for the sake of his oaths and of his dinner guests, he didn’t wish to refuse her.
27Immediately the king sent out a soldier of his guard and commanded to bring John’s head; and he went and beheaded him in the prison,
28and brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the young lady; and the young lady gave it to her mother.
29When his disciples heard this, they came and took up his corpse and laid it in a tomb.
30The apostles gathered themselves together to Jesus, and they told him all things, whatever they had done, and whatever they had taught.
31He said to them, “Come away into a deserted place, and rest awhile.” For there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.
32They went away in the boat to a deserted place by themselves.
33They saw them going, and many recognized him and ran there on foot from all the cities. They arrived before them and came together to him.
34Jesus came out, saw a great multitude, and he had compassion on them because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things.
35When it was late in the day, his disciples came to him and said, “This place is deserted, and it is late in the day.
36Send them away, that they may go into the surrounding country and villages and buy themselves bread, for they have nothing to eat.”
37But he answered them, “You give them something to eat.” They asked him, “Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give them something to eat?”
38He said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go see.” When they knew, they said, “Five, and two fish.”
39He commanded them that everyone should sit down in groups on the green grass.
40They sat down in ranks, by hundreds and by fifties.
41He took the five loaves and the two fish; and looking up to heaven, he blessed and broke the loaves, and he gave to his disciples to set before them, and he divided the two fish among them all.
42They all ate and were filled.
43They took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces and also of the fish.
44Those who ate the loaves were five thousand men.
45Immediately he made his disciples get into the boat and go ahead to the other side, to Bethsaida, while he himself sent the multitude away.
46After he had taken leave of them, he went up the mountain to pray.
47When evening had come, the boat was in the middle of the sea, and he was alone on the land.
48Seeing them distressed in rowing, for the wind was contrary to them, about the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea; and he would have passed by them,
49but they, when they saw him walking on the sea, supposed that it was a ghost, and cried out;
50for they all saw him and were troubled. But he immediately spoke with them and said to them, “Cheer up! It is I! Don’t be afraid.”
51He got into the boat with them; and the wind ceased, and they were very amazed among themselves, and marveled;
52for they hadn’t understood about the loaves, but their hearts were hardened.
53When they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret and moored to the shore.
54When they had come out of the boat, immediately the people recognized him,
55and ran around that whole region, and began to bring those who were sick on their mats to where they heard he was.
56Wherever he entered—into villages, or into cities, or into the country—they laid the sick in the marketplaces and begged him that they might just touch the fringe of his garment; and as many as touched him were made well.
