1Du aber, Bethlehem-Ephrath, bist zwar zu klein, als daß du zu den Gaustädten Judas gehörtest, aber aus dir wird mir der hervorgehen, der in Israel Herrscher sein soll und dessen Herkunft der Vergangenheit, den Tagen der Urzeit, angehört.
2Darum wird er sie preisgeben bis zu der Zeit, wo sie, die gebären soll, geboren hat und der Rest seiner Volksgenossen zu den Kindern Israel zurückkehrt.
3Dann wird er auftreten und (seine Herde) weiden in der Kraft des HERRN, im hoheitsvollen Namen des HERRN, seines Gottes, so daß sie sicher wohnen; denn nunmehr wird er groß dastehen bis an die Enden der Erde.
4Und folgender Art wird der Friede (mit den Assyrern) sein: Wenn Assyrien in unser Land einrückt und unser Gebiet betritt, dann werden wir sieben Hirten und acht fürstliche Männer gegen sie aufstellen;
5die werden das Land der Assyrer mit dem Schwert abweiden, das Land Nimrods mit der blanken Klinge. So wird er uns vor den Assyrern erretten, wenn sie in unser Land einrücken und unser Gebiet betreten.
6Dann wird der Überrest Jakobs (unter den Heiden) inmitten der Völkermenge sein wie der Tau vom HERRN, wie Regenschauer auf Wiesengras, die auf Menschen nicht warten und auf Menschenkinder nicht harren.
7Dann wird der Überrest Jakobs unter den Heiden inmitten der Völkermenge sein wie ein Löwe unter den Tieren des Waldes, wie ein junger Leu unter Schafherden, der, wenn er hindurchgeht, niedertritt und rettungslos zerreißt. –
8Hoch erhoben soll dein Arm über deine Bedränger sein, und alle deine Feinde sollen ausgerottet werden!
9»Und dann, an jenem Tage« – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN –, »da werde ich deine Rosse aus deiner Mitte vertilgen und deine Kriegswagen vernichten;
10da werde ich die Städte deines Landes zerstören und alle deine Festungen niederreißen;
11da werde ich auch die Zaubermittel aus deiner Hand vernichten, und Beschwörer soll es bei dir nicht mehr geben;
12da werde ich auch deine Götzenbilder vernichten und deine Malsteine aus deiner Mitte, damit du dich vor dem Machwerk deiner Hände nicht mehr niederwirfst;
13da werde ich deine Götzenbäume aus deiner Mitte ausreißen und deine Haine vernichten
14und werde in Zorn und Ingrimm Rache an den Völkern nehmen, die nicht haben gehorchen wollen.«

1REÚNETE ahora en bandas, oh hija de bandas: nos han sitiado: con vara herirán sobre la quijada al juez de Israel.
2Mas tú, Beth-lehem Ephrata, pequeña para ser en los millares de Judá, de ti me saldrá el que será Señor en Israel; y sus salidas son desde el principio, desde los días del siglo.
3Empero los dejará hasta el tiempo que para la que ha de parir; y el resto de sus hermanos se tornará con los hijos de Israel.
4Y estará, y apacentará con fortaleza de Jehová, con grandeza del nombre de Jehová su Dios: y asentarán; porque ahora será engrandecido hasta los fines de la tierra.
5Y éste será nuestra paz. Cuando Assur viniere á nuestra tierra, y cuando pisare nuestros palacios, entonces levantaremos contra él siete pastores, y ocho hombres principales;
6Y comerán la tierra de Assur á cuchillo, y la tierra de Nimrod con sus espadas: y nos librará del Asirio, cuando viniere contra nuestra tierra y hollare nuestros términos.
7Y será el residuo de Jacob en medio de muchos pueblos, como el rocío de Jehová, como las lluvias sobre la hierba, las cuales no esperan varón, ni aguardan á hijos de hombres.
8Asimismo será el resto de Jacob entre las gentes, en medio de muchos pueblos, como el león entre las bestias de la montaña, como el cachorro del león entre las manadas de las ovejas, el cual si pasare, y hollare, y arrebatare, no hay quien escape.
9Tu mano se alzará sobre tus enemigos, y todos tus adversarios serán talados.
10Y acontecerá en aquel día, dice Jehová, que haré matar tus caballos de en medio de ti, y haré destruir tus carros.
11Haré también destruir las ciudades de tu tierra, y arruinaré todas tus fortalezas.
12Asimismo destruiré de tu mano las hechicerías, y no se hallarán en ti agoreros.
13Y haré destruir tus esculturas y tus imágenes de en medio de ti, y nunca más te inclinarás á la obra de tus manos;
14Y arrancaré tus bosques de en medio de ti, y destruiré tus ciudades.
15Y con ira y con furor haré venganza en las gentes que no escucharon.

1Now gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops: he hath laid siege against us: they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.
2But thou, Beth-lehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
3Therefore will he give them up, until the time that she which travaileth hath brought forth: then the remnant of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel.
4And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.
5And this man shall be the peace, when the Assyrian shall come into our land: and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men.
6And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall he deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders.
7And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many people as a dew from the LORD, as the showers upon the grass, that tarrieth not for man, nor waiteth for the sons of men.
8And the remnant of Jacob shall be among the Gentiles in the midst of many people as a lion among the beasts of the forest, as a young lion among the flocks of sheep: who, if he go through, both treadeth down, and teareth in pieces, and none can deliver.
9Thine hand shall be lifted up upon thine adversaries, and all thine enemies shall be cut off.
10And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD, that I will cut off thy horses out of the midst of thee, and I will destroy thy chariots:
11And I will cut off the cities of thy land, and throw down all thy strong holds:
12And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers:
13Thy graven images also will I cut off, and thy standing images out of the midst of thee; and thou shalt no more worship the work of thine hands.
14And I will pluck up thy groves out of the midst of thee: so will I destroy thy cities.
15And I will execute vengeance in anger and fury upon the heathen, such as they have not heard.
World English Bible
1Now you shall gather yourself in troops, daughter of troops. He has laid siege against us. They will strike the judge of Israel with a rod on the cheek.
2But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, being small among the clans of Judah, out of you one will come out to me who is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings out are from of old, from ancient times.
3Therefore he will abandon them until the time that she who is in labor gives birth. Then the rest of his brothers will return to the children of Israel.
4He shall stand, and shall shepherd in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God. They will live, for then he will be great to the ends of the earth.
5He will be our peace when Assyria invades our land and when he marches through our fortresses, then we will raise against him seven shepherds, and eight leaders of men.
6They will rule the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in its gates. He will deliver us from the Assyrian, when he invades our land, and when he marches within our border.
7The remnant of Jacob will be among many peoples like dew from the LORD, like showers on the grass, that don’t wait for man nor wait for the sons of men.
8The remnant of Jacob will be among the nations, among many peoples, like a lion among the animals of the forest, like a young lion among the flocks of sheep; who, if he goes through, treads down and tears in pieces, and there is no one to deliver.
9Let your hand be lifted up above your adversaries, and let all of your enemies be cut off.
10“It will happen in that day”, says the LORD, “that I will cut off your horses from among you and will destroy your chariots.
11I will cut off the cities of your land and will tear down all your strongholds.
12I will destroy witchcraft from your hand. You shall have no soothsayers.
13I will cut off your engraved images and your pillars from among you; and you shall no more worship the work of your hands.
14I will uproot your Asherah poles from among you; and I will destroy your cities.
15I will execute vengeance in anger and wrath on the nations that didn’t listen.”
