1Um dia, quando as multidões estavam reunidas, Jesus subiu a encosta do monte com seus discípulos,
2sentou-se e ensinava a todos ali, dizendo:
3“Felizes são os humildes, porque o Reino dos céus é dado a eles.
4Felizes são os que choram, porque serão consolados.
5Felizes são os mansos, porque receberão a terra por herança.
6Felizes os que têm fome e sede de justiça, porque serão satisfeitos.
7Felizes os que são misericordiosos, porque Deus mostrará a eles a sua misericórdia.
8Felizes os que têm um coração puro, porque verão a Deus.
9Felizes aqueles que procuram promover a paz, pois serão chamados filhos de Deus.
10Felizes aqueles que são perseguidos por serem justos, pois deles é o Reino dos céus.
11“Felizes serão vocês quando forem maltratados, perseguidos e caluniados por serem meus seguidores!
12Fiquem contentes com isso! Fiquem muito contentes! Porque uma grandiosa recompensa espera vocês lá nos céus. E lembrem-se: Os profetas antigos foram perseguidos antes de vocês.
13“Vocês são o sal da terra. Se o sal perder o seu sabor, como restaurá-lo? Não servirá para coisa alguma, a não ser para ser jogado fora e ser pisado pelos homens.
14“Vocês são a luz do mundo; uma cidade sobre um monte não pode ser escondida.
15Ninguém acende uma lamparina e a coloca debaixo de uma vasilha. Pelo contrário, ela é colocada no lugar adequado e, desse modo, brilha para todos.
16Assim também a luz de vocês deve brilhar diante dos homens, para que vejam as boas obras de vocês e louvem o Pai de vocês, que está nos céus.
17“Não entendam de modo errado a razão da minha vinda. Não vim abolir a Lei de Moisés e as advertências dos profetas. Eu vim para cumprir a Lei.
18Eu afirmo a vocês: enquanto existirem céus e terra, a menor letra ou o menor traço da Lei continuará de pé até que o seu objetivo seja alcançado.
19E assim, se alguém quebrar o menor mandamento, e ensinar outros a fazê-lo também, ele será o menor no Reino dos céus. Mas aqueles que ensinam as leis de Deus e as praticam serão grandes no Reino dos céus.
20Porém eu advirto a todos: a menos que vocês tenham justiça melhor que a dos fariseus e mestres da lei, não poderão de maneira alguma entrar no Reino dos céus.
21“De acordo com a Lei de Moisés, a regra é: ‘Não mate! Se você matar deve ser julgado’.
22Porém eu digo que basta que vocês fiquem com raiva, mesmo que seja do seu irmão, e serão julgados! Se vocês chamarem um amigo de tolo serão levados perante o tribunal. E se amaldiçoarem alguém, correm o risco de ir para as chamas do inferno.
23“Portanto, se você estiver diante do altar no templo, oferecendo um sacrifício a Deus, e de repente se lembrar de que seu irmão tem alguma coisa contra você,
24deixe seu sacrifício ali, ao lado do altar, vá e faça as pazes com ele, depois volte e ofereça o seu sacrifício a Deus.
25“Chegue depressa a um acordo com o seu inimigo, antes que seja tarde demais e ele o arraste ao tribunal. Lá você será entregue ao juiz, que o entregará ao carcereiro, para que seja lançado na prisão como devedor.
26Eu lhe garanto que você ficará ali até pagar o último centavo.
27“A Lei de Moisés diz: ‘Não cometa adultério’.
28Porém eu digo: Qualquer um que olhar para uma mulher e desejar possuí-la, em seu coração já cometeu adultério com ela.
29Portanto, se o seu olho — o olho com o qual você enxerga melhor — faz você pecar, arranque-o e atire-o para longe. É melhor que seja destruída uma parte de você do que o corpo todo ser lançado no inferno.
30E se a sua mão — até mesmo a sua mão direita — faz você pecar, corte-a e jogue-a fora. É melhor perder uma parte do seu corpo do que ir todo ele para o inferno.
31“A Lei de Moisés diz: ‘Se alguém quiser divorciar-se de sua esposa, deverá entregar-lhe um documento de divórcio’.
32Porém eu digo que se um homem se divorciar de sua esposa, a não ser por causa de infidelidade, faz com que ela, casando-se de novo, cometa adultério. E aquele que se casar com ela, também comete adultério.
33“Vocês ouviram o que está escrito na Lei de Moisés: ‘Você não deve quebrar seus juramentos diante do Senhor, e sim cumprir todos eles’.
34Porém eu digo: Não façam juramentos de forma alguma! Até mesmo dizer: ‘Juro pelo céu!’ é um voto sagrado a Deus, porque os céus são o trono de Deus.
35E se vocês disserem: ‘Juro pela terra!’, isso é um voto sagrado, porque a terra é para Deus o estrado de seus pés. E não jurem: ‘Por Jerusalém!’ porque Jerusalém é a cidade do grande Rei.
36Nem mesmo digam: ‘Juro pela minha cabeça!’ porque vocês não podem tornar um cabelo branco ou preto.
37Digam simplesmente: ‘Sim, eu farei’, ou: ‘Não, eu não farei’. Sua palavra basta. O que passar disso vem do Maligno.
38“A Lei de Moisés diz: ‘Se um homem arrancar o olho de um outro, deve pagar com seu próprio olho. Se um dente for arrancado, que seja arrancado da mesma forma o dente daquele que fez isso’.
39Porém eu digo: Não resistam ao perverso! Se lhe baterem na face direita, apresente a outra também.
40Se você for levado ao tribunal, e lhe tomarem a túnica, dê a eles também a capa.
41Se um soldado exigir que você carregue a mochila dele por um quilômetro, carregue-a por dois quilômetros.
42Dê àqueles que lhe pedem, e não fuja daqueles que querem tomar emprestado de você.
43“Há um ditado assim: ‘Ame o seu próximo e odeie seus inimigos’.
44Porém eu digo: Amem os seus inimigos! Orem por aqueles que perseguem vocês!
45Dessa forma vocês estarão agindo como verdadeiros filhos do seu Pai que está nos céus. Porque ele envia a luz do sol tanto sobre os maus como sobre os bons, e derrama a chuva sobre os justos e sobre os injustos.
46Se vocês amarem apenas aqueles que amam vocês, que adianta isso? Até mesmo os cobradores de impostos fazem isso.
47Se vocês forem amigos apenas dos seus amigos, em que são diferentes de qualquer outro? Até mesmo os pagãos fazem isso.
48Mas vocês devem ser perfeitos, como o seu Pai celestial é perfeito.

1Y VIENDO las gentes, subió al monte; y sentándose, se llegaron á él sus discípulos.
2Y abriendo su boca, les enseñaba, diciendo:
3Bienaventurados los pobres en espíritu: porque de ellos es el reino de los cielos.
4Bienaventurados los que lloran: porque ellos recibirán consolación.
5Bienaventurados los mansos: porque ellos recibirán la tierra por heredad.
6Bienaventurados los que tienen hambre y sed de justicia: porque ellos serán hartos.
7Bienaventurados los misericordiosos: porque ellos alcanzarán misericordia.
8Bienaventurados los de limpio corazón: porque ellos verán á Dios.
9Bienaventurados los pacificadores: porque ellos serán llamados hijos de Dios.
10Bienaventurados los que padecen persecución por causa de la justicia: porque de ellos es el reino de los cielos.
11Bienaventurados sois cuando os vituperaren y os persiguieren, y dijeren de vosotros todo mal por mi causa, mintiendo.
12Gozaos y alegraos; porque vuestra merced es grande en los cielos: que así persiguieron á los profetas que fueron antes de vosotros.
13Vosotros sois la sal de la tierra: y si la sal se desvaneciere ¿con qué será salada? no vale más para nada, sino para ser echada fuera y hollada de los hombres.
14Vosotros sois la luz del mundo: una ciudad asentada sobre un monte no se puede esconder.
15Ni se enciende una lámpara y se pone debajo de un almud, mas sobre el candelero, y alumbra á todos los que están en casa.
16Así alumbre vuestra luz delante de los hombres, para que vean vuestras obras buenas, y glorifiquen á vuestro Padre que está en los cielos.
17No penséis que he venido para abrogar la ley ó los profetas: no he venido para abrogar, sino á cumplir.
18Porque de cierto os digo, que hasta que perezca el cielo y la tierra, ni una jota ni un tilde perecerá de la ley, hasta que todas las cosas sean hechas.
19De manera que cualquiera que infringiere uno de estos mandamientos muy pequeños, y así enseñare á los hombres, muy pequeño será llamado en el reino de los cielos: mas cualquiera que hiciere y enseñare, éste será llamado grande en el reino de los cielos.
20Porque os digo, que si vuestra justicia no fuere mayor que la de los escribas y de los Fariseos, no entraréis en el reino de los cielos.
21Oísteis que fué dicho á los antiguos: No matarás; mas cualquiera que matare, será culpado del juicio.
22Mas yo os digo, que cualquiera que se enojare locamente con su hermano, será culpado del juicio; y cualquiera que dijere á su hermano, Raca, será culpado del concejo; y cualquiera que dijere, Fatuo, será culpado del infierno del fuego.
23Por tanto, si trajeres tu presente al altar, y allí te acordares de que tu hermano tiene algo contra ti,
24Deja allí tu presente delante del altar, y vete, vuelve primero en amistad con tu hermano, y entonces ven y ofrece tu presente.
25Concíliate con tu adversario presto, entre tanto que estás con él en el camino; porque no acontezca que el adversario te entregue al juez, y el juez te entregue al alguacil, y seas echado en prisión.
26De cierto te digo, que no saldrás de allí, hasta que pagues el último cuadrante.
27Oísteis que fué dicho: No adulterarás:
28Mas yo os digo, que cualquiera que mira á una mujer para codiciarla, ya adulteró con ella en su corazón.
29Por tanto, si tu ojo derecho te fuere ocasión de caer, sácalo, y échalo de ti: que mejor te es que se pierda uno de tus miembros, que no que todo tu cuerpo sea echado al infierno.
30Y si tu mano derecha te fuere ocasión de caer, córtala, y échala de ti: que mejor te es que se pierda uno de tus miembros, que no que todo tu cuerpo sea echado al infierno.
31También fué dicho: Cualquiera que repudiare á su mujer, déle carta de divorcio:
32Mas yo os digo, que el que repudiare á su mujer, fuera de causa de fornicación, hace que ella adultere; y el que se casare con la repudiada, comete adulterio.
33Además habéis oído que fué dicho á los antiguos: No te perjurarás; mas pagarás al Señor tus juramentos.
34Mas yo os digo: No juréis en ninguna manera: ni por el cielo, porque es el trono de Dios;
35Ni por la tierra, porque es el estrado de sus pies; ni por Jerusalem, porque es la ciudad del gran Rey.
36Ni por tu cabeza jurarás, porque no puedes hacer un cabello blanco ó negro.
37Mas sea vuestro hablar: Sí, sí; No, no; porque lo que es más de esto, de mal procede.
38Oísteis que fué dicho á los antiguos: Ojo por ojo, y diente por diente.
39Mas yo os digo: No resistáis al mal; antes á cualquiera que te hiriere en tu mejilla diestra, vuélvele también la otra;
40Y al que quisiere ponerte á pleito y tomarte tu ropa, déjale también la capa;
41Y á cualquiera que te cargare por una milla, ve con él dos.
42Al que te pidiere, dale; y al que quisiere tomar de ti prestado, no se lo rehuses.
43Oísteis que fué dicho: Amarás á tu prójimo, y aborrecerás á tu enemigo.
44Mas yo os digo: Amad á vuestros enemigos, bendecid á los que os maldicen, haced bien á los que os aborrecen, y orad por los que os ultrajan y os persiguen;
45Para que seáis hijos de vuestro Padre que está en los cielos: que hace que su sol salga sobre malos y buenos, y llueve sobre justos é injustos.
46Porque si amareis á los que os aman, ¿qué recompensa tendréis? ¿no hacen también lo mismo los publicanos?
47Y si abrazareis á vuestros hermanos solamente, ¿qué hacéis de más? ¿no hacen también así los Gentiles?
48Sed, pues, vosotros perfectos, como vuestro Padre que está en los cielos es perfecto.

1And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
2And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
3Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
5Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
8Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
13Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
14Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
17Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
19Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
20For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
21Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
22But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
23Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;
24Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
25Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.
26Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.
27Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
28But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
29And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
30And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
31It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:
32But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.
33Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:
34But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne:
35Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.
36Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.
37But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.
38Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
39But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
40And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also.
41And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
42Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.
43Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
44But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
45That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
46For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
47And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
48Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

1Seeing the multitudes, he went up onto the mountain. When he had sat down, his disciples came to him.
2He opened his mouth and taught them, saying,
3“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
4Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
5Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.
6Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.
7Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
8Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
9Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.
10Blessed are those who have been persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
11“Blessed are you when people reproach you, persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven. For that is how they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
13“You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt has lost its flavor, with what will it be salted? It is then good for nothing, but to be cast out and trodden under the feet of men.
14“You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill can’t be hidden.
15Neither do you light a lamp and put it under a measuring basket, but on a stand; and it shines to all who are in the house.
16Even so, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
17“Don’t think that I came to destroy the law or the prophets. I didn’t come to destroy, but to fulfill.
18For most certainly, I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not even one smallest letter or one tiny pen stroke shall in any way pass away from the law, until all things are accomplished.
19Therefore, whoever shall break one of these least commandments and teach others to do so, shall be called least in the Kingdom of Heaven; but whoever shall do and teach them shall be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven.
20For I tell you that unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, there is no way you will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.
21“You have heard that it was said to the ancient ones, ‘You shall not murder;’ and ‘Whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’
22But I tell you that everyone who is angry with his brother without a cause will be in danger of the judgment. Whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ will be in danger of the council. Whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of Gehenna.
23“If therefore you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has anything against you,
24leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
25Agree with your adversary quickly while you are with him on the way; lest perhaps the prosecutor deliver you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and you be cast into prison.
26Most certainly I tell you, you shall by no means get out of there until you have paid the last penny.
27“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery;’
28but I tell you that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.
29If your right eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it away from you. For it is more profitable for you that one of your members should perish than for your whole body to be cast into Gehenna.
30If your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off, and throw it away from you. For it is more profitable for you that one of your members should perish, than for your whole body to be cast into Gehenna.
31“It was also said, ‘Whoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorce,’
32but I tell you that whoever puts away his wife, except for the cause of sexual immorality, makes her an adulteress; and whoever marries her when she is put away commits adultery.
33“Again you have heard that it was said to the ancient ones, ‘You shall not make false vows, but shall perform to the Lord your vows,’
34but I tell you, don’t swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is the throne of God;
35nor by the earth, for it is the footstool of his feet; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.
36Neither shall you swear by your head, for you can’t make one hair white or black.
37But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes’ and your ‘No’ be ‘No.’ Whatever is more than these is of the evil one.
38“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’
39But I tell you, don’t resist him who is evil; but whoever strikes you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also.
40If anyone sues you to take away your coat, let him have your cloak also.
41Whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.
42Give to him who asks you, and don’t turn away him who desires to borrow from you.
43“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’
44But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you,
45that you may be children of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and the unjust.
46For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Don’t even the tax collectors do the same?
47If you only greet your friends, what more do you do than others? Don’t even the tax collectors do the same?
48Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.
