Als aber Pilatus sah, dass es nichts nützte, sondern dass vielmehr ein heftiger Tumult entstand, nahm er Wasser, wusch sich vor dem Volk die Hände und sagte: Ich bin unschuldig am Blute dieses Gerechten; sehet ihr zu! (a) Mt 27:4; 5Mo 21:6 7; Ps 26:6

In der gleichen Weise schmähten ihn aber auch die Räuber, die mit ihm gekreuzigt worden waren.
