1In jener Zeit vernahm Herodes, der Vierfürst, von Jesus.
2Er sprach zu seinen Höflingen: "Das ist Johannes der Täufer. Er ist von den Toten auferstanden, deshalb wirken in ihm Gottes Kräfte."
3Herodes hatte nämlich Johannes gefangennehmen, fesseln und ins Gefängnis werfen lassen der Herodias, dem Weibe Philippus', seines Bruders, zu Gefallen.
4Denn Johannes hatte ihm vorgehalten: "Es ist dir nicht erlaubt, sie zu besitzen."
5Er hätte ihn gern getötet, jedoch er fürchtete das Volk; denn dieses sah ihn als einen Propheten an.
6Am Geburtsfest des Herodes tanzte die Tochter der Herodias im Kreise der Gäste. Dies gefiel Herodes so,
7daß er ihr unter einem Eid versprach, ihr zu geben, was immer sie verlangen würde.
8Von ihrer Mutter angestiftet, sprach sie: "Gib mir hier auf einer Schüssel den Kopf Johannes des Täufers!"
9Da ward der König tief betrübt; jedoch des Eides und der Gäste wegen befahl er, ihn zu geben.
10Also ließ er den Johannes im Gefängnis enthaupten.
11Man brachte seinen Kopf auf einer Schüssel und gab ihn dem Mädchen, und diese brachte ihn ihrer Mutter.
12Seine Jünger holten dann den Leichnam und begruben ihn. Hierauf erzählten sie es Jesus.
13Auf diese Nachricht hin zog sich Jesus von da zurück; auf einem Boote ging er allein an einen abgelegenen Ort. Die Scharen merkten dies und folgten ihm zu Fuß von den Städten her.
14Er stieg aus und sah die große Menge, empfand ein herzliches Erbarmen über sie und heilte ihre Kranken.
15Als es schon spät geworden war, traten seine Jünger zu ihm hin und sprachen: "Der Ort ist einsam und die Zeit schon vorgerückt. Entlaß daher die Scharen. Sie mögen in die Dörfer gehen und sich Nahrung kaufen."
16Doch Jesus sprach zu ihnen: "Sie brauchen gar nicht wegzugehen; gebt ihr ihnen zu essen."
17Da sagten sie zu ihm: "Wir haben nur fünf Brote und zwei Fische hier."
18"So bringet sie mir her", sprach er.
19Dann hieß er die Scharen sich auf dem Grase zu lagern, nahm die fünf Brote und die zwei Fische, schaute auf zum Himmel und segnete. Er brach sodann die Brote und gab sie seinen Jüngern; die Jünger gaben sie den Scharen.
20Und alle aßen und wurden satt; ja, noch zwölf Körbe trugen sie hinweg, voll mit Stücken, die übriggeblieben waren.
21Es waren derer, die gegessen hatten, an fünftausend Männer; die Frauen und Kinder nicht gerechnet.
22Und sogleich drängte er die Jünger, in das Boot zu steigen und an das andere Ufer ihm vorauszufahren; er wollte die Scharen inzwischen entlassen.
23Und er entließ die Scharen und stieg allein auf einen Berg, um dort zu beten.
24Es war schon spät, und er war dort ganz allein. Das Boot war schon viele Stadien vom Land entfernt mitten auf dem Meere von Wellen hart bedrängt; sie hatten nämlich Gegenwind.
25Da, um die vierte Nachtwache, kam er zu ihnen, auf dem Meere daherwandelnd.
26Die Jünger sahen ihn, wie er auf dem Meere wandelte; sie erschraken und riefen: "Ein Gespenst!" Sie schrien laut vor Angst.
27Doch alsbald redete sie Jesus an und sprach: "Nur Mut! Ich bin es. Habt keine Angst."
28Und Petrus sprach zu ihm: "Herr, wenn du willst, so heiße mich auf dem Wasser zu dir kommen."
29Er sprach: "Komm!" Da stieg Petrus aus dem Boot und schritt über das Wasser hin und ging auf Jesus zu.
30Als er jedoch den starken Wind verspürte, bekam er Angst; er fing an zu sinken und schrie: "Herr, rette mich!"
31Sogleich streckte Jesus seine Hand aus, faßte ihn und sprach: "Kleingläubiger, warum hast du gezweifelt?"
32Darauf stiegen sie ins Boot, und sogleich legte sich der Wind.
33Die im Boote waren, fielen vor ihm nieder mit den Worten: "Wahrhaftig, du bist der Sohn Gottes."
34Sie fuhren vollends über und kamen bei Genesareth ans Land.
35Sobald die Leute ihn dort erkannten, schickten sie in jener Gegend überall herum, und man brachte alle Kranken zu ihm.
36Und diese baten ihn, sie möchten nur den Saum seines Kleides berühren. Und alle, die ihn berührten, wurden ganz gesund.

1EN aquel tiempo Herodes el tetrarca oyó la fama de Jesús,
2Y dijo á sus criados: Este es Juan el Bautista: él ha resucitado de los muertos, y por eso virtudes obran en él.
3Porque Herodes había prendido á Juan, y le había aprisionado y puesto en la cárcel, por causa de Herodías, mujer de Felipe su hermano;
4Porque Juan le decía: No te es lícito tenerla.
5Y quería matarle, mas temía al pueblo; porque le tenían como á profeta.
6Mas celebrándose el día del nacimiento de Herodes, la hija de Herodías danzó en medio, y agradó á Herodes.
7Y prometió él con juramento de darle todo lo que pidiese.
8Y ella, instruída primero de su madre, dijo: Dame aquí en un plato la cabeza de Juan el Bautista.
9Entonces el rey se entristeció; mas por el juramento, y por los que estaban juntamente á la mesa, mandó que se le diese.
10Y enviando, degolló á Juan en la cárcel.
11Y fué traída su cabeza en un plato, y dada á la muchacha; y ella la presentó á su madre.
12Entonces llegaron sus discípulos, y tomaron el cuerpo, y lo enterraron; y fueron, y dieron las nuevas á Jesús.
13Y oyéndolo Jesús, se apartó de allí en un barco á un lugar descierto, apartado: y cuando las gentes lo oyeron, le siguieron á pie de las ciudades.
14Y saliendo Jesús, vió un gran gentío, y tuvo compasión de ellos, y sanó á los que de ellos había enfermos.
15Y cuando fué la tarde del día, se llegaron á él sus discípulos, diciendo: El lugar es desierto, y el tiempo es ya pasado: despide las gentes, para que se vayan por las aldeas, y compren para sí de comer.
16Y Jesús les dijo: No tienen necesidad de irse: dadles vosotros de comer.
17Y ellos dijeron: No tenemos aquí sino cinco panes y dos peces.
18Y él les dijo: Traédmelos acá.
19Y mandando á las gentes recostarse sobre la hierba, tomando los cinco panes y los dos peces, alzando los ojos al cielo, bendijo, y partió y dió los panes á los discípulos, y los discípulos á las gentes.
20Y comieron todos, y se hartaron; y alzaron lo que sobró de los pedazos, doce cestas llenas.
21Y los que comieron fueron como cinco mil hombres, sin las mujeres y los niños.
22Y luego Jesús hizo á sus discípulos entrar en el barco, é ir delante de él á la otra parte del lago, entre tanto que él despedía á las gentes.
23Y despedidas las gentes, subió al monte, apartado, á orar: y como fué la tarde del día, estaba allí solo.
24Y ya el barco estaba en medio de la mar, atormentado de las ondas; porque el viento era contrario.
25Mas á la cuarta vela de la noche, Jesús fué á ellos andando sobre la mar.
26Y los discípulos, viéndole andar sobre la mar, se turbaron, diciendo: Fantasma es. Y dieron voces de miedo.
27Mas luego Jesús les habló, diciendo: Confiad, yo soy; no tengáis miedo.
28Entonces le respondió Pedro, y dijo: Señor, si tú eres, manda que yo vaya á ti sobre las aguas.
29Y él dijo: Ven. Y descendiendo Pedro del barco, andaba sobre las aguas para ir á Jesús.
30Mas viendo el viento fuerte, tuvo miedo; y comenzándose á hundir, dió voces, diciendo: Señor, sálvame.
31Y luego Jesús, extendiendo la mano, trabó de él, y le dice: Oh hombre de poca fe, ¿por qué dudaste?
32Y como ellos entraron en el barco, sosegóse el viento.
33Entonces los que estaban en el barco, vinieron y le adoraron, diciendo: Verdaderamente eres Hijo de Dios.
34Y llegando á la otra parte, vinieron á la tierra de Genezaret.
35Y como le conocieron los hombres de aquel lugar, enviaron por toda aquella tierra alrededor, y trajeron á él todos los enfermos;
36Y le rogaban que solamente tocasen el borde de su manto; y todos los que tocaron, quedaron sanos.

1At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus,
2And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.
3For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias’ sake, his brother Philip’s wife.
4For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.
5And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.
6But when Herod’s birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod.
7Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask.
8And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist’s head in a charger.
9And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath’s sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her.
10And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.
11And his head was brought in a charger, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother.
12And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus.
13When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities.
14And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.
15And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals.
16But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat.
17And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes.
18He said, Bring them hither to me.
19And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.
20And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.
21And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.
22And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.
23And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.
24But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.
25And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.
26And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.
27But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
28And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
29And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
30But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
31And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
32And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.
33Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.
34And when they were gone over, they came into the land of Gennesaret.
35And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased;
36And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.

1At that time, Herod the tetrarch heard the report concerning Jesus,
2and said to his servants, “This is John the Baptizer. He is risen from the dead. That is why these powers work in him.”
3For Herod had arrested John, bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife.
4For John said to him, “It is not lawful for you to have her.”
5When he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.
6But when Herod’s birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced among them and pleased Herod.
7Therefore he promised with an oath to give her whatever she should ask.
8She, being prompted by her mother, said, “Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptizer.”
9The king was grieved, but for the sake of his oaths and of those who sat at the table with him, he commanded it to be given,
10and he sent and beheaded John in the prison.
11His head was brought on a platter and given to the young lady; and she brought it to her mother.
12His disciples came, took the body, and buried it. Then they went and told Jesus.
13Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat to a deserted place apart. When the multitudes heard it, they followed him on foot from the cities.
14Jesus went out, and he saw a great multitude. He had compassion on them and healed their sick.
15When evening had come, his disciples came to him, saying, “This place is deserted, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves food.”
16But Jesus said to them, “They don’t need to go away. You give them something to eat.”
17They told him, “We only have here five loaves and two fish.”
18He said, “Bring them here to me.”
19He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass; and he took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes.
20They all ate and were filled. They took up twelve baskets full of that which remained left over from the broken pieces.
21Those who ate were about five thousand men, in addition to women and children.
22Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go ahead of him to the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.
23After he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into the mountain by himself to pray. When evening had come, he was there alone.
24But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, distressed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.
25In the fourth watch of the night, Jesus came to them, walking on the sea.
26When the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It’s a ghost!” and they cried out for fear.
27But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Cheer up! It is I! Don’t be afraid.”
28Peter answered him and said, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the waters.”
29He said, “Come!” Peter stepped down from the boat and walked on the waters to come to Jesus.
30But when he saw that the wind was strong, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
31Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand, took hold of him, and said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”
32When they got up into the boat, the wind ceased.
33Those who were in the boat came and worshiped him, saying, “You are truly the Son of God!”
34When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret.
35When the people of that place recognized him, they sent into all that surrounding region and brought to him all who were sick;
36and they begged him that they might just touch the fringe of his garment. As many as touched it were made whole.
