1UND es begab sich, als Jesus seine Anweisungen an seine Jünger beendet hatte, ging er von da weiter, um in ihren Städten zu lehren und zu predigen.
2Als aber Johannes im Gefängnis von den Werken Christi hörte, liess er ihm durch seine Jünger sagen: (a) Mt 14:3
3Bist du es, der da kommen soll, oder sollen wir auf einen andern warten? (a) Mt 3:11; Mal 3:1
4Und Jesus antwortete und sprach zu ihnen: Gehet hin und berichtet dem Johannes, was ihr hört und seht:
5"Blinde werden sehend" und Lahme gehen, Aussätzige werden rein und Taube hören, Tote werden auferweckt und "Armen wird die frohe Botschaft gebracht", (a) Mt 15:30 31; Jes 35:5 6; 61:1; Lu 4:18
6und selig ist, wer an mir keinen Anstoss nimmt. (a) Mt 13:57; 26:31
7ALS diese aber hinweggingen, fing Jesus an, zur Volksmenge von Johannes zu reden: Wozu seid ihr in die Wüste hinausgegangen? Ein Rohr zu schauen, das vom Wind bewegt wird? (a) Mt 3:5
8Oder wozu seid ihr hinausgegangen? Einen Menschen zu sehen, der mit weichen Kleidern angetan ist? Siehe, die weiche Kleider tragen, sind in den Häusern der Könige.
9Oder wozu seid ihr hinausgegangen? Einen Propheten zu sehen? Ja, ich sage euch: Sogar mehr als einen Propheten. (a) Lu 1:76
10Dieser ist's, über den geschrieben steht: "Siehe, ich sende meinen Boten vor deinem Angesicht her, der deinen Weg vor dir bereiten wird." (a) 2Mo 23:20; Mal 3:1; Mr 1:2; Joh 3:28
11Wahrlich, ich sage euch: Unter denen, die von Frauen geboren sind, ist kein Grösserer aufgetreten als Johannes der Täufer. Doch der Kleinste im Reich der Himmel ist grösser als er.
12Aber von den Tagen Johannes des Täufers an bis jetzt wird das Reich der Himmel mit Gewalt erstrebt, und gewaltsam Ringende reissen es an sich. (a) Lu 16:16
13Denn alle Propheten und das Gesetz haben auf Johannes hin geweissagt,
14und wenn ihr es annehmen wollt: er ist Elia, der kommen soll. (a) Mal 4:5; Lu 1:17; Mt 17:10-13
15Wer Ohren hat, der höre! (a) Mt 13:9
16Wem soll ich aber dieses Geschlecht vergleichen? Es ist Kindern gleich, die auf den Marktplätzen sitzen und den andern zurufen
17und sagen: Wir haben euch aufgespielt, und ihr habt nicht getanzt; / wir haben Klagelieder gesungen, und ihr habt nicht getrauert.
18Denn Johannes ist gekommen, der ass nicht und trank nicht; da sagen sie: Er hat einen Dämon. (a) Mt 3:4; Joh 10:20
19Der Sohn des Menschen ist gekommen, der isst und trinkt; da sagen sie: Siehe, ein Schlemmer und Zecher, Freund mit Zöllnern und Sündern! Und die Weisheit ist aus ihren Werken gerechtfertigt worden. (1) statt "aus ihren Werken" haben viele alte Textzeugen: "von ihren Kindern" - wie Lu 7:35 (a) Mt 9:10 14 15; Joh 2:2
20DARAUF fing er an, die Städte, in denen die meisten seiner machtvollen Taten geschehen waren, zu schelten, weil sie nicht Busse taten:
21Wehe dir, Chorazin! wehe dir, Bethsaida! Denn wenn in Tyrus und Sidon die machtvollen Taten geschehen wären, die bei euch geschehen sind, so hätten sie längst in Sack und Asche Busse getan. (a) Hio 42:6; Da 9:3; Jon 3:6; Lu 9:10
22Ja, ich sage euch: Tyrus und Sidon wird es am Tage des Gerichtes erträglicher ergehen als euch.
23Und du, Kapernaum, wirst du "bis zum Himmel erhoben werden? Bis zum Totenreich wirst du hinabfahren." Denn wenn in Sodom die machtvollen Taten geschehen wären, die bei dir geschehen sind, stände es noch heute. (a) Mt 4:13; Jes 14:13 15
24Ja, ich sage euch: Dem Lande Sodom wird es am Tage des Gerichtes erträglicher ergehen als dir. (a) Mt 10:15
25ZU jener Zeit begann Jesus und sprach: Ich preise dich, Vater, Herr des Himmels und der Erde, dass du dies vor Weisen und Verständigen verborgen und es Unmündigen geoffenbart hast. (a) Mt 5:3; 1Kor 1:19-29; Jes 29:14
26Ja, Vater, denn so ist es wohlgefällig gewesen vor dir.
27Alles ist mir von meinem Vater übergeben worden, und niemand erkennt den Sohn als nur der Vater, und den Vater erkennt niemand als nur der Sohn und wem es der Sohn offenbaren will. (a) Mt 28:18; Joh 1:18; 3:18; 14:6; 17:2
28Kommet her zu mir alle, die ihr mühselig und beladen seid, so will ich euch Ruhe geben. (a) Jer 31:25

1Y FUÉ, que acabando Jesús de dar mandamientos á sus doce discípulos, se fué de allí á enseñar y á predicar en las ciudades de ellos.
2Y oyendo Juan en la prisión los hechos de Cristo, le envió dos de sus discípulos,
3Diciendo: ¿Eres tú aquél que había de venir, ó esperaremos á otro?
4Y respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: Id, y haced saber á Juan las cosas que oís y veis:
5Los ciegos ven, y los cojos andan; los leprosos son limpiados, y los sordos oyen; los muertos son resucitados, y á los pobres es anunciado el evangelio.
6Y bienaventurado es el que no fuere escandalizado en mí.
7E idos ellos, comenzó Jesús á decir de Juan á las gentes: ¿Qué salisteis á ver al desierto? ¿una caña que es meneada del viento?
8Mas ¿qué salisteis á ver? ¿un hombre cubierto de delicados vestidos? He aquí, los que traen vestidos delicados, en las casas de los reyes están.
9Mas ¿qué salisteis á ver? ¿un profeta? También os digo, y más que profeta.
10Porque éste es de quien está escrito: He aquí, yo envío mi mensajero delante de tu faz, que aparejará tu camino delante de ti.
11De cierto os digo, que no se levantó entre los que nacen de mujeres otro mayor que Juan el Bautista; mas el que es muy más pequeño en el reino de los cielos, mayor es que él.
12Desde los días de Juan el Bautista hasta ahora, al reino de los cielos se hace fuerza, y los valientes lo arrebatan.
13Porque todos los profetas y la ley hasta Juan profetizaron.
14Y si queréis recibir, él es aquel Elías que había de venir.
15El que tiene oídos para oir, oiga.
16Mas ¿á quién compararé esta generación? Es semejante á los muchachos que se sientan en las plazas, y dan voces á sus compañeros,
17Y dicen: Os tañimos flauta, y no bailasteis; os endechamos, y no lamentasteis.
18Porque vino Juan, que ni comía ni bebía, y dicen: Demonio tiene.
19Vino el Hijo del hombre, que come y bebe, y dicen: He aquí un hombre comilón, y bebedor de vino, amigo de publicanos y de pecadores. Mas la sabiduría es justificada por sus hijos.
20Entonces comenzó á reconvenir á las ciudades en las cuales habían sido hechas muy muchas de sus maravillas, porque no se habían arrepentido, diciendo:
21¡Ay de ti, Corazín! ¡Ay de ti, Bethsaida! porque si en Tiro y en Sidón fueran hechas las maravillas que han sido hechas en vosotras, en otro tiempo se hubieran arrepentido en saco y en ceniza.
22Por tanto os digo, que á Tiro y á Sidón será más tolerable el castigo en el día del juicio, que á vosotras.
23Y tú, Capernaum, que eres levantada hasta el cielo, hasta los infiernos serás abajada; porque si en los de Sodoma fueran hechas las maravillas que han sido hechas en ti, hubieran quedado hasta el día de hoy.
24Por tanto os digo, que á la tierra de los de Sodoma será más tolerable el castigo en el día del juicio, que á ti.
25En aquel tiempo, respondiendo Jesús, dijo: Te alabo, Padre, Señor del cielo y de la tierra, que hayas escondido estas cosas de los sabios y de los entendidos, y las hayas revelado á los niños.
26Así, Padre, pues que así agradó en tus ojos.
27Todas las cosas me son entregadas de mi Padre: y nadie conoció al Hijo, sino el Padre; ni al Padre conoció alguno, sino el Hijo, y aquel á quien el Hijo lo quisiere revelar.
28Venid á mí todos los que estáis trabajados y cargados, que yo os haré descansar.
29Llevad mi yugo sobre vosotros, y aprended de mí, que soy manso y humilde de corazón; y hallaréis descanso para vuestras almas.
30Porque mi yugo es fácil, y ligera mi carga.

1And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.
2Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,
3And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?
4Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:
5The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
6And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
7And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?
8But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses.
9But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.
10For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
11Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
12And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.
13For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.
14And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.
15He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
16But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows,
17And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented.
18For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.
19The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.
20Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:
21Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
22But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.
23And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.
24But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.
25At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.
26Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.
27All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.
28Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

1When Jesus had finished directing his twelve disciples, he departed from there to teach and preach in their cities.
2Now when John heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples
3and said to him, “Are you he who comes, or should we look for another?”
4Jesus answered them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see:
5the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them.
6Blessed is he who finds no occasion for stumbling in me.”
7As these went their way, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John, “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?
8But what did you go out to see? A man in soft clothing? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses.
9But why did you go out? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and much more than a prophet.
10For this is he, of whom it is written, ‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.’
11Most certainly I tell you, among those who are born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptizer; yet he who is least in the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than he.
12From the days of John the Baptizer until now, the Kingdom of Heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.
13For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.
14If you are willing to receive it, this is Elijah, who is to come.
15He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
16“But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces, who call to their companions
17and say, ‘We played the flute for you, and you didn’t dance. We mourned for you, and you didn’t lament.’
18For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’
19The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Behold, a gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ But wisdom is justified by her children.”
20Then he began to denounce the cities in which most of his mighty works had been done, because they didn’t repent.

25At that time, Jesus answered, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you hid these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to infants.
26Yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in your sight.
27All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows the Son, except the Father; neither does anyone know the Father, except the Son and he to whom the Son desires to reveal him.
28“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.
29Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls.
30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
