"Ich sende meinen Boten schon, um meinen Weg vor mir zu ebnen. Ganz unvermutet kommt der Herr in seinen Tempel. Er, den ihr vermißt. Dazu des Bundes Bote, dem ihr entgegenharrt. Er kommt", so spricht der Herr der Heerscharen.
HE aquí, yo envío mi mensajero, el cual preparará el camino delante de mí: y luego vendrá á su templo el Señor á quien vosotros buscáis, y el ángel del pacto, á quien deseáis vosotros. He aquí viene, ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos.
Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.

Wer hält ihn aus, den Tag, an dem er kommt? Wer kann bestehn, wenn er erscheint? Er gleicht dem Feuer eines Schmelzofens und gleicht der Wäscherlauge.
¿Y quién podrá sufrir el tiempo de su venida? ó ¿quién podrá estar cuando él se mostrará? Porque él es como fuego purificador, y como jabón de lavadores.
But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap:

Und die sonst Silber läutert und es reinigt, wird jetzt die Levisöhne reinigen und läutern wie Gold und Silber. So hat der Herr nur solche, die Speiseopfer bringen in Gerechtigkeit.
Y sentarse ha para afinar y limpiar la plata: porque limpiará los hijos de Leví, los afinará como á oro y como á plata; y ofrecerán á Jehová ofrenda con justicia.

Dem Herrn gefallen abermals die Speiseopfer Judas und Jerusalems wie einst in alten Tagen, in längst vergangenen Jahren.
Y será suave á Jehová la ofrenda de Judá y de Jerusalem, como en los días pasados, y como en los años antiguos.
Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasant unto the LORD, as in the days of old, and as in former years.

"Ich trete zum Gericht an euch heran; ein schneller Kläger werde ich für Mädchenjäger und für Ehebrecher und für die, die falsche Eide schwören und die entziehn dem Tagelöhner seinen Lohn, die Witwen, Waisen, Fremdlinge bedrücken und keine Ehrfurcht vor mir haben." So spricht der Herr der Heerscharen.
Y llegarme he á vosotros á juicio; y seré pronto testigo contra los hechiceros y adúlteros; y contra los que juran mentira, y los que detienen el salario del jornalero, de la viuda, y del huérfano, y los que hacen agravio al extranjero, no teniendo temor de mí, dice Jehová de los ejércitos.
And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me, saith the LORD of hosts.

Seit eurer Väter Tagen seid ihr von meinen Satzungen gewichen und habt sie nicht befolgt. Zu mir kehrt euch! Dann kehre ich mich auch zu euch." So spricht der Herr der Heerscharen. "Ihr fragt: 'Weswegen müssen wir umkehren?'

Darf denn ein Mensch wohl Gott berauben, daß ihr mich selbst beraubt? Ihr fragt: 'Wie haben wir Dich nur beraubt?' In Zehnten und in Abgaben!
¿Robará el hombre á Dios? Pues vosotros me habéis robado. Y dijisteis: ¿En qué te hemos robado? Los diezmos y las primicias.

Bei der Verkürzung ziehet ihr nur selbst den kürzeren, und doch beraubt ihr mich, das ganze Volk.
Malditos sois con maldición, porque vosotros, la nación toda, me habéis robado.

Herbei mit allen Zehnten in das Vorratshaus, daß Zehrung sich in meinem Hause finde! Versucht's mit mir einmal auf diese Weise", so spricht der Herr der Heerscharen, "ob ich euch nicht des Himmels Fenster öffne und Segen über euch ergieße ohne Maß!

"Ihr nehmt euch viel in euren Reden wider mich heraus" So spricht der Herr: "Ihr fragt: 'Was reden wir denn gegen Dich?'
Vuestras palabras han prevalecido contra mí, dice Jehová. Y dijisteis: ¿Qué hemos hablado contra ti?
Your words have been stout against me, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, What have we spoken so much against thee?
“Your words have been harsh against me,” says the LORD. “Yet you say, ‘What have we spoken against you?’
Ihr sagt: 'Umsonst ist's, Gott zu dienen. Was haben wir davon, daß seine Satzung wir befolgen, daß wir in Trauer wandeln vor dem Herrn der Heerscharen?
Habéis dicho: Por demás es servir á Dios; ¿y qué aprovecha que guardemos su ley, y que andemos tristes delante de Jehová de los ejércitos?
Ye have said, It is vain to serve God: and what profit is it that we have kept his ordinance, and that we have walked mournfully before the LORD of hosts?
You have said, ‘It is vain to serve God,’ and ‘What profit is it that we have followed his instructions and that we have walked mournfully before the LORD of Armies?
Nun preisen wir Vermeßne glücklich. Nur Lasterhaften geht es gut; sie stellen auf die Probe Gott und kommen ungestraft davon.'"
Decimos pues ahora, que bienaventurados los soberbios, y también que los que hacen impiedad son los prosperados: bien que tentaron á Dios, escaparon.

Dagegen sprechen so des Herrn Verehrer unter sich: "Der Herr vernimmt es und behält es." In ein Gedächtnisbuch, das vor ihm liegt, wird eingeschrieben, was alle die betrifft, die vor dem Herrn sich fürchten und die vor seinem Namen Ehrfurcht haben.
Entonces los que temen á Jehová hablaron cada uno á su compañero; y Jehová escuchó y oyó, y fué escrito libro de memoria delante de él para los que temen á Jehová, y para los que piensan en su nombre.
Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name.

"Sie werden mir", so spricht der Herr der Heerscharen, "am Tage, da ich einschreite, zum ganz besonderen Eigentum. Mit ihnen habe ich so Mitleid, wie jemand Mitleid hat mit seinem Sohne, der ihm dient."

And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.

Aufs neue werdet ihr den Unterschied erkennen, der zwischen fromm und gottvergessen ist, und zwischen dem, der Gott verehrt, und dem, der ihn nicht ehrt. "Der Tag wird kommen, gleich einem Ofen flammt er auf. Die Frevler und die Missetäter all sind Stoppeln, und sie verzehrt der Tag, der kommt", so spricht der Herr der Heerscharen. "Von ihnen bleibt nicht Zweig noch Wurzel übrig. Euch aber, die ihr meinen Namen fürchtet, strahlt die Sonne der Gerechtigkeit, und Heilung liegt in ihren Strahlen. Ihr kommt hervor und hüpft wie Kälber aus dem Stalle, die Frevler zu zertreten. Sie werden unter euren Füßen Staub an jenem Tag, da ich erscheine." So spricht der Herr der Heerscharen. "Gedenket also des Gesetzes Mosis, meines Dieners! Am Horeb gab ich für ganz Israel Gebote ihm und Satzungen. Ich sende euch Elias, den Propheten, zu. Bevor der Tag des Herrn erscheint, der große, schreckliche, bemüht er sich, das Herz der Väter für die Kinder, das Herz der Kinder für die Väter wiederzugewinnen. Sonst muß ich, wenn ich komme, das Land zum Untergang verdammen."
Entonces os tornaréis, y echaréis de ver la diferencia entre el justo y el malo, entre el que sirve á Dios y el que no le sirve.
Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.
