Er hatte nämlich dem unreinen Geist befohlen, aus dem Manne auszufahren. Schon lange hielt er ihn in seiner Macht. Man hatte ihn mit Fesseln und mit Ketten gebunden und ihn gefangengehalten, doch er hatte die Bande immer wieder zerrissen und ward vom Dämon in die Einöde hinausgetrieben.

For Jesus was commanding the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For the unclean spirit had often seized the man. He was kept under guard and bound with chains and fetters. Breaking the bonds apart, he was driven by the demon into the desert.
