1Naqueles dias, o Imperador César Augusto enviou um decreto ordenando que houvesse um censo de todas as pessoas que viviam no mundo habitado.
2Isto foi feito, pela primeira vez, quando Quirino era o governador da Síria.
3Então, todos foram à sua cidade natal para serem registrados no censo.
4José também partiu da cidade de Nazaré, na Galileia, para Belém, na Judeia, conhecida como cidade de Davi, pois ele era descendente do Rei Davi.
5José foi com sua noiva Maria para se registrarem. Ela estava grávida.
6Aconteceu que, chegando em Belém, era o momento de Maria ter o Bebê.
7Então ela deu à luz o seu filho, seu Primogênito, e ela O envolveu em panos. Depois, ela O colocou em uma manjedoura, pois não havia lugar para eles na hospedaria.
8Naquela mesma região alguns pastores estavam no campo, cuidando de suas ovelhas à noite.
9Um anjo do Senhor apareceu para eles e a glória do Senhor brilhava em torno deles; e todos ficaram tomados de grande temor.
10Então, o anjo lhes disse: "Não temais, pois vos trago boas novas de grande alegria para todo o povo.
11Hoje, na cidade de Davi, vos nasceu o Salvador. Ele é Cristo, o Senhor!
12Ireis reconhecê-Lo através deste sinal: Ele estará envolvido em panos e deitado em uma manjedoura".
13De repente, uma grande quantidade de anjos, vindos do céu, apareceu e se juntou ao outro anjo louvando a Deus e dizendo:
14“Glória a Deus nas alturas e que haja paz na terra entre o povo o qual Deus quer bem”.
15Após os anjos voltarem ao céu os pastores disseram entre si: “Vamos imediatamente para Belém ver esta coisa maravilhosa que aconteceu e o Senhor nos permitiu saber”.
16Foram apressadamente e lá encontraram José e Maria em um estábulo. E viram o Bebê deitado na manjedoura.
17Após verem isso, eles contaram às pessoas o que foi dito a eles sobre o Bebê.
18Todos os que se encontraram com os pastores ficaram maravilhados com o que ouviam.
19Mas, Maria guardava tudo o que havia ouvido e conservava isso em seu coração.
20Os pastores retornaram glorificando e louvando a Deus, pois tudo o que ouviram e viram era exatamente como o anjo lhes dissera.
21No oitavo dia, era chegado o tempo de circuncidar o Bebê. Eles puseram-lhe o nome Jesus, pois foi assim que o anjo O chamou, antes que Ele fosse concebido no ventre.
22Quando o número de dias da purificação deles se passaram, de acordo com a Lei de Moisés, José e Maria levaram o Bebê até o templo, em Jerusalém, para apresentá-Lo ao Senhor.
23Pois estava escrito na Lei do Senhor: “Todo menino nascido primogênito deve ser santificado ao Senhor”.
24De acordo com a Lei do Senhor, eles também deveriam ofertar “duas rolinhas ou dois pombinhos” como sacrifício.
25Eis que havia em Jerusalém um homem chamado Simeão. Ele era justo e piedoso. Ele estava esperando a consolação de Israel e o Espírito Santo estava sobre ele.
26O Espírito Santo revelou a ele que não morreria antes que visse o Cristo prometido por Deus.
27Guiado pelo Espírito, Simeão entrou no templo. José e Maria trouxeram o Bebê, Jesus, para cumprir os costumes requeridos na Lei.
28Simeão recebeu Jesus em Seus braços e louvou a Deus dizendo:
29“Senhor, permita agora que teu servo vá em paz, pois se cumpriu a Tua promessa.
30Pois meus olhos viram a Tua salvação,
31a qual Tu preparaste diante de todos os povos;
32Luz para revelação aos gentios, e para glória do Teu povo de Israel”.
33Os pais do Bebê estavam maravilhados com as coisas que eram ditas a respeito Dele.
34Simeão os abençoou e disse a Maria, Sua mãe: “Eis que este Bebê está destinado tanto para ruína como para levantamento de muitos em Israel e para ser alvo de contradição
35(também uma espada traspassará a tua própria alma), de modo que os pensamentos de muitos corações sejam revelados.
36Uma profetisa chamada Ana também estava lá. Ela era filha de Fanuel, da tribo de Aser. Ela era idosa, e viveu com seu marido por sete anos desde a sua virgindade,
37e depois tornou-se viúva e assim permaneceu por oitenta e quatro anos. Ela nunca deixou o templo, adorando a Deus continuamente com jejum e oração, noite e dia.
38Naquele mesmo momento, ela começou a agradecer a Deus e falou sobre o menino a todos que estavam esperando pela redenção de Jerusalém.
39Quando eles terminaram de fazer tudo o que deviam de acordo com a Lei do Senhor, eles retornaram à Galileia, para sua própria cidade, Nazaré.
40E o Menino crescia em estatura, tornando-se forte, enchendo-Se de sabedoria, e a graça de Deus estava sobre Ele.
41Seus pais iam todos os anos a Jerusalém, para a Festa da Páscoa.
42Quando Jesus completou doze anos, eles foram para a festa, como era de costume.
43Terminados os dias de celebração, ao regressarem, permaneceu o menino Jesus em Jerusalém e Seus pais não O souberam,
44pois pensaram que estava na caravana que viajava com eles. Após um dia inteiro de jornada, eles começaram a procurá-Lo entre os familiares e amigos.
45Quando eles não O encontraram, eles voltaram para Jerusalém e começaram a procurá-Lo por lá.
46Após três dias, eles O encontraram no templo, sentado entre os mestres, ouvindo-os com atenção e fazendo perguntas.
47Todos os que O ouviam ficavam maravilhados com Seu entendimento e com Suas respostas.
48Quando eles viram Jesus, ficaram atônitos. Então Sua mãe disse-Lle: “Por que fizeste assim conosco? Eis que Teu pai e eu estivemos aflitos procurando por Ti”.
49E Jesus respondeu: “Por que vós estáveis procurando por Mim? Vós não sabíeis que Eu devo estar na casa do Meu Pai?”.
50Mas eles não entenderam o que Jesus queria dizer com essas palavras.
51Então Jesus voltou com Seus pais para Nazaré, e era submisso a eles e Sua mãe guardava todas essas coisas em Seu coração.
52Mas Jesus continuava a crescer em sabedoria, estatura e graça para com Deus e as pessoas.

1Y ACONTECIÓ en aquellos días que salió edicto de parte de Augusto César, que toda la tierra fuese empadronada.
2Este empadronamiento primero fué hecho siendo Cirenio gobernador de la Siria.
3E iban todos para ser empadronados, cada uno á su ciudad.
4Y subió José de Galilea, de la ciudad de Nazaret, á Judea, á la ciudad de David, que se llama Bethlehem, por cuanto era de la casa y familia de David;
5Para ser empadronado con María su mujer, desposada con él, la cual estaba en cinta.
6Y aconteció que estando ellos allí, se cumplieron los días en que ella había de parir.
7Y parió á su hijo primogénito, y le envolvió en pañales, y acostóle en un pesebre, porque no había lugar para ellos en el mesón.
8Y había pastores en la misma tierra, que velaban y guardaban las vigilias de la noche sobre su ganado.
9Y he aquí el ángel del Señor vino sobre ellos, y la claridad de Dios los cercó de resplandor; y tuvieron gran temor.
10Mas el ángel les dijo: No temáis; porque he aquí os doy nuevas de gran gozo, que será para todo el pueblo:
11Que os ha nacido hoy, en la ciudad de David, un Salvador, que es CRISTO el Señor.
12Y esto os será por señal: hallaréis al niño envuelto en pañales, echado en un pesebre.
13Y repentinamente fué con el ángel una multitud de los ejércitos celestiales, que alababan á Dios, y decían:
14Gloria en las alturas á Dios, y en la tierra paz, buena voluntad para con los hombres.
15Y aconteció que como los ángeles se fueron de ellos al cielo, los pastores dijeron los unos á los otros: Pasemos pues hasta Bethlehem, y veamos esto que ha sucedido, que el Señor nos ha manifestado.
16Y vinieron apriesa, y hallaron á María, y á José, y al niño acostado en el pesebre.
17Y viéndolo, hicieron notorio lo que les había sido dicho del niño.
18Y todos los que oyeron, se maravillaron de lo que los pastores les decían.
19Mas María guardaba todas estas cosas, confiriéndolas en su corazón.
20Y se volvieron los pastores glorificando y alabando á Dios de todas las cosas que habían oído y visto, como les había sido dicho.
21Y pasados los ocho días para circuncidar al niño, llamaron su nombre JESÚS; el cual le fué puesto por el ángel antes que él fuese concebido en el vientre.
22Y como se cumplieron los días de la purificación de ella, conforme á la ley de Moisés, le trajeron á Jerusalem para presentarle al Señor,
23(Como está escrito en la ley del Señor: Todo varón que abriere la matriz, será llamado santo al Señor),
24Y para dar la ofrenda, conforme á lo que está dicho en la ley del Señor: un par de tórtolas, ó dos palominos.
25Y he aquí, había un hombre en Jerusalem, llamado Simeón, y este hombre, justo y pío, esperaba la consolación de Israel: y el Espíritu Santo era sobre él.
26Y había recibido respuesta del Espíritu Santo, que no vería la muerte antes que viese al Cristo del Señor.
27Y vino por Espíritu al templo. Y cuando metieron al niño Jesús sus padres en el templo, para hacer por él conforme á la costumbre de la ley,
28Entonces él le tomó en sus brazos, y bendijo á Dios, y dijo:
29Ahora despides, Señor, á tu siervo, conforme á tu palabra, en paz;
30Porque han visto mis ojos tu salvación,
31La cual has aparejado en presencia de todos los pueblos;
32Luz para ser revelada á los Gentiles, y la gloria de tu pueblo Israel.
33Y José y su madre estaban maravillados de las cosas que se decían de él.
34Y los bendijo Simeón, y dijo á su madre María: He aquí, éste es puesto para caída y para levantamiento de muchos en Israel; y para señal á la que será contradicho;
35Y una espada traspasará tu alma de ti misma, para que sean manifestados los pensamientos de muchos corazones.
36Estaba también allí Ana, profetisa, hija de Phanuel, de la tribu de Aser; la cual había venido en grande edad, y había vivido con su marido siete años desde su virginidad;
37Y era viuda de hasta ochenta y cuatro años, que no se apartaba del templo, sirviendo de noche y de día con ayunos y oraciones.
38Y ésta, sobreviniendo en la misma hora, juntamente confesaba al Señor, y hablaba de él á todos los que esperaban la redención en Jerusalem.
39Mas como cumplieron todas las cosas según la ley del Señor, se volvieron á Galilea, á su ciudad de Nazaret.
40Y el niño crecía, y fortalecíase, y se henchía de sabiduría; y la gracia de Dios era sobre él.
41E iban sus padres todos los años á Jerusalem en la fiesta de la Pascua.
42Y cuando fué de doce años, subieron ellos á Jerusalem conforme á la costumbre del día de la fiesta.
43Y acabados los días, volviendo ellos, se quedó el niño Jesús en Jerusalem, sin saberlo José y su madre.
44Y pensando que estaba en la compañía, anduvieron camino de un día; y le buscaban entre los parientes y entre los conocidos:
45Mas como no le hallasen, volvieron á Jerusalem buscándole.
46Y aconteció, que tres días después le hallaron en el templo, sentado en medio de los doctores, oyéndoles y preguntándoles.
47Y todos los que le oían, se pasmaban de su entendimiento y de sus respuestas.
48Y cuando le vieron, se maravillaron; y díjole su madre: Hijo, ¿por qué nos has hecho así? He aquí, tu padre y yo te hemos buscado con dolor.
49Entonces él les dice: ¿Qué hay? ¿por qué me buscabais? ¿No sabíais que en los negocios de mi Padre me conviene estar?
50Mas ellos no entendieron las palabras que les habló.
51Y descendió con ellos, y vino á Nazaret, y estaba sujeto á ellos. Y su madre guardaba todas estas cosas en su corazón.
52Y Jesús crecía en sabiduría, y en edad, y en gracia para con Dios y los hombres.

1And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Cæsar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.
2(And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
3And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
4And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judæa, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
5To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
6And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
7And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
8And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
12And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
13And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
15And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
16And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
17And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.
18And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
19But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
20And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.
21And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
22And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;
23(As it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;)
24And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.
25And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.
26And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.
27And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,
28Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,
29Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:

31Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;
32A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.
33And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him.
34And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;
35(Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.

40And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.

43And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it.
44But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day’s journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance.
45And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.
46And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.
47And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.
48And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.
49And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?
50And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.
51And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
52And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.

1Now in those days, a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be enrolled.
2This was the first enrollment made when Quirinius was governor of Syria.
3All went to enroll themselves, everyone to his own city.
4Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to David’s city, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David,
5to enroll himself with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him as wife, being pregnant.
6While they were there, the day had come for her to give birth.
7She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in bands of cloth and laid him in a feeding trough, because there was no room for them in the inn.
8There were shepherds in the same country staying in the field, and keeping watch by night over their flock.
9Behold, an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
10The angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be to all the people.
11For there is born to you today, in David’s city, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
12This is the sign to you: you will find a baby wrapped in strips of cloth, lying in a feeding trough.”
13Suddenly, there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army praising God and saying,
14“Glory to God in the highest, on earth peace, good will toward men.”
15When the angels went away from them into the sky, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem, now, and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.”
16They came with haste and found both Mary and Joseph, and the baby was lying in the feeding trough.
17When they saw it, they publicized widely the saying which was spoken to them about this child.
18All who heard it wondered at the things which were spoken to them by the shepherds.
19But Mary kept all these sayings, pondering them in her heart.
20The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, just as it was told them.
21When eight days were fulfilled for the circumcision of the child, his name was called Jesus, which was given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
22When the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were fulfilled, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord
23(as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every male who opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”),
24and to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, “A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.”
25Behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him.
26It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.
27He came in the Spirit into the temple. When the parents brought in the child, Jesus, that they might do concerning him according to the custom of the law,
28then he received him into his arms and blessed God, and said,
29“Now you are releasing your servant, Master, according to your word, in peace;
30for my eyes have seen your salvation,
31which you have prepared before the face of all peoples;
32a light for revelation to the nations, and the glory of your people Israel.”
33Joseph and his mother were marveling at the things which were spoken concerning him.
34Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary, his mother, “Behold, this child is appointed for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which is spoken against.
35Yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul, that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”
36There was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher (she was of a great age, having lived with a husband seven years from her virginity,
37and she had been a widow for about eighty-four years), who didn’t depart from the temple, worshiping with fastings and petitions night and day.
38Coming up at that very hour, she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of him to all those who were looking for redemption in Jerusalem.
39When they had accomplished all things that were according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth.
40The child was growing, and was becoming strong in spirit, being filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him.
41His parents went every year to Jerusalem at the feast of the Passover.
42When he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast;
43and when they had fulfilled the days, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. Joseph and his mother didn’t know it,
44but supposing him to be in the company, they went a day’s journey; and they looked for him among their relatives and acquaintances.
45When they didn’t find him, they returned to Jerusalem, looking for him.
46After three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the middle of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions.
47All who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.
48When they saw him, they were astonished; and his mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us this way? Behold, your father and I were anxiously looking for you.”
49He said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house?”
50They didn’t understand the saying which he spoke to them.
51And he went down with them and came to Nazareth. He was subject to them, and his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
52And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
