1ES nahte aber das Fest der ungesäuerten Brote, welches Passa heisst.
2Und die Hohenpriester und die Schriftgelehrten trachteten darnach, wie sie ihn umbringen könnten; denn sie fürchteten das Volk. (a) Lu 20:19
3ES fuhr aber der Satan in Judas, der Ischarioth heisst und der aus der Zahl der Zwölf war. (a) Joh 13:2 27
4Und er ging hin und besprach mit den Hohenpriestern und Befehlshabern, wie er ihn an sie verraten könnte.
5Und sie freuten sich und kamen mit ihm überein, ihm Geld zu geben.
6Und er sagte zu und suchte eine gute Gelegenheit, um ihn ohne Volksauflauf an sie zu verraten.
7ES kam aber der Tag der ungesäuerten Brote, an dem man das Passalamm schlachten musste. (a) 2Mo 12:18-20
8Und er sandte Petrus und Johannes und sprach: Gehet und bereitet für uns das Passamahl, damit wir es essen!
9Sie antworteten ihm: Wo willst du, dass wir es bereiten?
10Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Siehe, wenn ihr in die Stadt hineinkommt, wird euch ein Mensch begegnen, der einen Krug mit Wasser trägt; folget ihm in das Haus, in das er hineingeht,
11und saget zu dem Herrn des Hauses: Der Meister lässt dir sagen: Wo ist die Herberge, in der ich das Passamahl mit meinen Jüngern essen kann?
12Und jener wird euch ein grosses Obergemach zeigen, das mit Polstern belegt ist; dort bereitet es zu!
13Da gingen sie hin und fanden es, wie er ihnen gesagt hatte, und bereiteten das Passamahl. (a) Lu 19:32
14UND als die Stunde da war, setzte er sich zu Tische und die Apostel mit ihm.
15Und er sprach zu ihnen: Mich hat sehnlich verlangt, dieses Passamahl mit euch zu essen, bevor ich leide. (a) 1Kor 5:7
16Denn ich sage euch: Ich werde es nicht mehr essen, bis es in seiner Vollendung gefeiert wird im Reiche Gottes.
17Und er nahm den Kelch, sprach das Dankgebet darüber und sagte: Nehmet ihn und teilet ihn unter euch!
18Denn ich sage euch: Ich werde von jetzt an vom Gewächs des Weinstocks nicht (mehr) trinken, bis das Reich Gottes gekommen ist.
19Und er nahm Brot, sprach das Dankgebet darüber, brach es, gab es ihnen und sagte: Das ist mein Leib, der für euch hingegeben wird; das tut zu meinem Gedächtnis!
20Und ebenso nach der Mahlzeit den Kelch und sagte: Dieser Kelch ist der neue Bund in meinem Blute, das für euch vergossen wird. (a) 2Mo 24:8; Jer 31:31; Heb 9:20
21Doch siehe, die Hand dessen, der mich verraten wird, ist mit mir auf dem Tische.
22Denn der Sohn des Menschen zwar geht dahin, wie es bestimmt ist; doch wehe dem Menschen, durch den er verraten wird!
23Und sie fingen an, sich untereinander zu besprechen, wer von ihnen es wohl wäre, der dies tun wollte.
24ES entstand aber unter ihnen auch ein Streit darüber, wer von ihnen als der Grösste gelten könne. (a) Lu 9:46
25Da sprach er zu ihnen: Die Könige der Völker üben die Herrschaft über sie aus, und ihre Gewalthaber lassen sich Wohltäter nennen.
26Ihr dagegen nicht so! Sondern der Grösste unter euch soll werden wie der Jüngste, und der Hochstehende wie der Dienende. (a) Lu 9:48
27Denn wer ist grösser, der zu Tische Sitzende oder der Dienende? Ist es nicht der zu Tische Sitzende? Ich aber bin mitten unter euch wie der Dienende. (a) Joh 13:1-14
28Ihr aber seid die, welche in meinen Versuchungen bei mir ausgeharrt haben. (a) Joh 6:67
29Und wie mir mein Vater ein Königreich bestimmt hat, bestimme ich für euch, (a) Lu 12:32
30dass ihr an meinem Tisch essen und trinken sollt in meinem Reich und auf Thronen sitzen, um die zwölf Stämme Israels zu richten. (a) Mt 19:28
31Simon, Simon, siehe, der Satan hat sich euch (von Gott) ausgebeten, um euch im Sieb zu schütteln wie den Weizen; (a) Joh 13:36-38
32ich aber habe für dich gebeten, dass dein Glaube nicht aufhöre; und du, wenn du dich einst bekehrt hast, stärke deine Brüder! (a) Joh 17:9-15; 21:15
33Er aber sagte zu ihm: Herr, ich bin bereit, mit dir sogar ins Gefängnis und in den Tod zu gehen.
34Da sprach er: Ich sage dir, Petrus: Der Hahn wird heute nicht krähen, bis du dreimal geleugnet hast, mich zu kennen.
35Und er sprach zu ihnen: Als ich euch ohne Beutel und Tasche und Schuhe aussandte, habt ihr da an etwas Mangel gehabt? Sie aber sagten: an nichts! (a) Lu 9:3; 10:4
36Da sprach er zu ihnen: Aber jetzt, wer einen Beutel hat, nehme ihn, gleichfalls auch (wer) eine Tasche (hat), und wer kein Schwert hat, verkaufe seinen Mantel und kaufe eins!
37Denn ich sage euch: Dieses Schriftwort muss sich an mir erfüllen: "Und er ist unter die Übeltäter gezählt worden." Denn was mir bestimmt ist, kommt (jetzt) zu Ende. (a) Jes 53:12
38Sie aber sagten: Herr, siehe, hier sind zwei Schwerter. Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Es ist genug.
39UND er ging hinaus und begab sich nach seiner Gewohnheit an den Ölberg; es folgten ihm aber auch die Jünger. (a) Mr 14:26; Lu 21:37; Joh 18:1 2
40Und als er an den Ort gelangt war, sprach er zu ihnen: Betet, dass ihr nicht in Versuchung kommt!
41Und er trennte sich von ihnen, ungefähr einen Steinwurf weit, und kniete nieder und betete:
42Vater, wenn du willst, so lass diesen Kelch an mir vorübergehen! Doch nicht mein, sondern dein Wille geschehe! (a) Mt 6:10; Joh 6:38
43Es erschien ihm aber ein Engel vom Himmel und stärkte ihn.
44Und er geriet in angstvollen Kampf und betete noch anhaltender; und sein Schweiss wurde wie Blutstropfen, die auf die Erde fallen. (a) Heb 5:7
45Und als er vom Gebet aufgestanden war und zu den Jüngern kam, fand er sie schlafend vor Traurigkeit.
46Und er sprach zu ihnen: Was schlaft ihr? Stehet auf und betet, dass ihr nicht in Versuchung kommt!
47WÄHREND er noch redete, siehe, da kam ein Volkshaufe; und der, welcher Judas hiess, einer der Zwölf, ging vor ihnen her und näherte sich Jesus, um ihn zu küssen. (a) Apg 1:16
48Jesus aber sprach zu ihm: Judas, mit einem Kuss verrätst du den Sohn des Menschen?
49Als aber die um ihn sahen, was bevorstand, sagten sie: Herr, sollen wir mit dem Schwerte dreinschlagen?
50Und einer von ihnen schlug nach dem Knecht des Hohenpriesters und hieb ihm das rechte Ohr ab.
51Da antwortete Jesus und sprach: Lasset es damit genug sein! Und er rührte das Ohr an und heilte ihn.
52Jesus sagte aber zu den Hohenpriestern und Hauptleuten des Tempels und Ältesten, die zu ihm herangekommen waren: Wie gegen einen Räuber seid ihr ausgezogen mit Schwertern und Stöcken.
53Als ich täglich bei euch im Tempel war, habt ihr nicht Hand an mich gelegt. Aber dies ist eure Stunde und die Macht der Finsternis. (a) Joh 7:30; 8:20; 19:11
54UND nachdem sie ihn ergriffen hatten, führten sie ihn ab und brachten ihn in das Haus des Hohenpriesters. Petrus jedoch folgte von ferne.
55Als sie aber mitten im Hof ein Feuer angezündet und sich zueinander gesetzt hatten, setzte sich Petrus mitten unter sie.
56Da sah ihn eine Magd beim Feuer sitzen, blickte ihn an und sagte: Auch dieser war mit ihm.
57Er aber verleugnete ihn und sagte: Weib, ich kenne ihn nicht.
58Und kurz nachher sah ihn ein andrer und sagte: Auch du bist einer von ihnen. Petrus aber sagte: Mensch, ich bin's nicht.
59Und ungefähr nach Verlauf einer Stunde versicherte ein andrer: In Wahrheit, auch dieser war mit ihm; denn er ist ein Galiläer.
60Petrus aber sagte: Mensch, ich weiss nicht, was du meinst. Und sofort, während er noch redete, krähte der Hahn.
61Und der Herr wandte sich um und blickte Petrus an. Da erinnerte sich Petrus an das Wort des Herrn, wie er zu ihm gesagt hatte: Ehe heute der Hahn kräht, wirst du mich dreimal verleugnen. (1) V. 34
62Und er ging hinaus und weinte bitterlich.
63UND die Männer, die ihn bewachten, verspotteten und schlugen ihn,
64und sie verhüllten ihn und fragten ihn: Offenbare: Wer ist's, der dich geschlagen hat?
65Und (noch) viele andre Lästerungen sagten sie wider ihn.
66Und als es Tag geworden war, versammelte sich der Rat der Ältesten des Volkes, Hohepriester und Schriftgelehrte, und sie liessen ihn in ihre Versammlung führen (a) Mt 27:1; Mr 15:1
67und sagten: Bist du der Christus, so sage es uns! Da sprach er zu ihnen: Wenn ich es euch sage, werdet ihr es nicht glauben; (a) Joh 3:12; 8:45; 10:24-26
68wenn ich aber frage, werdet ihr nicht antworten.
69Doch von jetzt an wird der Sohn des Menschen sitzen zur Rechten der Macht Gottes. (a) Da 7:13; Ps 110:1
70Sie sagten aber alle: So bist du also der Sohn Gottes? Er antwortete ihnen: Ihr sagt es, dass ich es bin.
71Da sagten sie: Was bedürfen wir weiter Zeugnis? Wir haben es ja selbst aus seinem Munde gehört.

1Y ESTABA cerca el día de la fiesta de los ázimos, que se llama la Pascua.
2Y los príncipes de los sacerdotes y los escribas buscaban cómo le matarían; mas tenían miedo del pueblo.
3Y entró Satanás en Judas, por sobrenombre Iscariote, el cual era uno del número de los doce;
4Y fué, y habló con los príncipes de los sacerdotes, y con los magistrados, de cómo se lo entregaría.
5Los cuales se holgaron, y concertaron de darle dinero.
6Y prometió, y buscaba oportunidad para entregarle á ellos sin bulla.
7Y vino el día de los ázimos, en el cual era necesario matar la pascua.
8Y envió á Pedro y á Juan, diciendo: Id, aparejadnos la pascua para que comamos.
9Y ellos le dijeron: ¿Dónde quieres que aparejemos?
10Y él les dijo: He aquí cuando entrareis en la ciudad, os encontrará un hombre que lleva un cántaro de agua: seguidle hasta la casa donde entrare,
11Y decid al padre de la familia de la casa: El Maestro te dice: ¿Dónde está el aposento donde tengo de comer la pascua con mis discípulos?
12Entonces él os mostrará un gran cenáculo aderezado; aparejad allí.
13Fueron pues, y hallaron como les había dicho; y aparejaron la pascua.
14Y como fué hora, sentóse á la mesa, y con él los apóstoles.
15Y les dijo: En gran manera he deseado comer con vosotros esta pascua antes que padezca;
16Porque os digo que no comeré más de ella, hasta que se cumpla en el reino de Dios.
17Y tomando el vaso, habiendo dado gracias, dijo: Tomad esto, y partidlo entre vosotros;
18Porque os digo, que no beberé más del fruto de la vid, hasta que el reino de Dios venga.
19Y tomando el pan, habiendo dado gracias, partió, y les dió, diciendo: Esto es mi cuerpo, que por vosotros es dado: haced esto en memoria de mí.
20Asimismo también el vaso, después que hubo cenado, diciendo: Este vaso es el nuevo pacto en mi sangre, que por vosotros se derrama.
21Con todo eso, he aquí la mano del que me entrega, conmigo en la mesa.
22Y á la verdad el Hijo del hombre va, según lo que está determinado; empero ¡ay de aquel hombre por el cual es entregado!
23Ellos entonces comenzaron á preguntar entre sí, cuál de ellos sería el que había de hacer esto.
24Y hubo entre ellos una contienda, quién de ellos parecía ser el mayor.
25Entonces él les dijo: Los reyes de las gentes se enseñorean de ellas; y los que sobre ellas tienen potestad, son llamados bienhechores:
26Mas vosotros, no así: antes el que es mayor entre vosotros, sea como el más mozo; y el que es príncipe, como el que sirve.
27Porque, ¿cuál es mayor, el que se sienta á la mesa, ó el que sirve? ¿No es el que se sienta á la mesa? Y yo soy entre vosotros como el que sirve.
28Empero vosotros sois los que habéis permanecido conmigo en mis tentaciones:
29Yo pues os ordeno un reino, como mi Padre me lo ordenó á mí,
30Para que comáis y bebáis en mi mesa en mi reino, y os sentéis sobre tronos juzgando á las doce tribus de Israel.
31Dijo también el Señor: Simón, Simón, he aquí Satanás os ha pedido para zarandaros como á trigo;
32Mas yo he rogado por ti que tu fe no falte: y tú, una vez vuelto, confirma á tus hermanos.
33Y él le dijo: Señor, pronto estoy á ir contigo aun á cárcel y á muerte.
34Y él dijo: Pedro, te digo que el gallo no cantará hoy antes que tú niegues tres veces que me conoces.
35Y á ellos dijo: Cuando os envié sin bolsa, y sin alforja, y sin zapatos, ¿os faltó algo? Y ellos dijeron: Nada.
36Y les dijo: Pues ahora, el que tiene bolsa, tómela, y también la alforja, y el que no tiene, venda su capa y compre espada.
37Porque os digo, que es necesario que se cumpla todavía en mí aquello que está escrito: Y con los malos fué contado: porque lo que está escrito de mí, cumplimiento tiene.
38Entonces ellos dijeron: Señor, he aquí dos espadas. Y él les dijo: Basta.
39Y saliendo, se fué, como solía, al monte de las Olivas; y sus discípulos también le siguieron.
40Y como llegó á aquel lugar, les dijo: Orad que no entréis en tentación.
41Y él se apartó de ellos como un tiro de piedra; y puesto de rodillas oró,
42Diciendo: Padre, si quieres, pasa este vaso de mí; empero no se haga mi voluntad, sino la tuya.
43Y le apareció un ángel del cielo confortándole.
44Y estando en agonía, oraba más intensamente: y fué su sudor como grandes gotas de sangre que caían hasta la tierra.
45Y como se levantó de la oración, y vino á sus discípulos, hallólos durmiendo de tristeza;
46Y les dijo: ¿Por qué dormís? Levantaos, y orad que no entréis en tentación.
47Estando él aún hablando, he aquí una turba; y el que se llamaba Judas, uno de los doce, iba delante de ellos; y llegóse á Jesús para besarlo.
48Entonces Jesús le dijo: Judas, ¿con beso entregas al Hijo del hombre?
49Y viendo los que estaban con él lo que había de ser, le dijeron: Señor, ¿heriremos á cuchillo?
50Y uno de ellos hirió á un siervo del príncipe de los sacerdotes, y le quitó la oreja derecha.
51Entonces respondiendo Jesús, dijo: Dejad hasta aquí. Y tocando su oreja, le sanó.
52Y Jesús dijo á los que habían venido á él, los príncipes de los sacerdotes, y los magistrados del templo, y los ancianos: ¿Como á ladrón habéis salido con espadas y con palos?
53Habiendo estado con vosotros cada día en el templo, no extendisteis las manos contra mí; mas ésta es vuestra hora, y la potestad de las tinieblas.
54Y prendiéndole trajéronle, y metiéronle en casa del príncipe de los sacerdotes. Y Pedro le seguía de lejos.
55Y habiendo encendido fuego en medio de la sala, y sentándose todos alrededor, se sentó también Pedro entre ellos.
56Y como una criada le vió que estaba sentado al fuego, fijóse en él, y dijo: Y éste con él estaba.
57Entonces él lo negó, diciendo: Mujer, no le conozco.
58Y un poco después, viéndole otro, dijo: Y tú de ellos eras. Y Pedro dijo: Hombre, no soy.
59Y como una hora pasada otro afirmaba, diciendo: Verdaderamente también éste estaba con él, porque es Galileo.
60Y Pedro dijo: Hombre, no sé qué dices. Y luego, estando él aún hablando, el gallo cantó.
61Entonces, vuelto el Señor, miró á Pedro: y Pedro se acordó de la palabra del Señor como le había dicho: Antes que el gallo cante, me negarás tres veces.
62Y saliendo fuera Pedro, lloró amargamente.
63Y los hombres que tenían á Jesús, se burlaban de él hiriéndole;
64Y cubriéndole, herían su rostro, y preguntábanle, diciendo: Profetiza quién es el que te hirió.
65Y decían otras muchas cosas injuriándole.
66Y cuando fué de día, se juntaron los ancianos del pueblo, y los príncipes de los sacerdotes, y los escribas, y le trajeron á su concilio,
67Diciendo: ¿Eres tú el Cristo? dínoslo. Y les dijo: Si os lo dijere, no creeréis;
68Y también si os preguntare, no me responderéis, ni me soltaréis:
69Mas después de ahora el Hijo del hombre se asentará á la diestra de la potencia de Dios.
70Y dijeron todos: ¿Luego tú eres Hijo de Dios? Y él les dijo: Vosotros decís que yo soy.
71Entonces ellos dijeron: ¿Qué más testimonio deseamos? porque nosotros lo hemos oído de su boca.

1Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover.
2And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people.
3Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.
4And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them.
5And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money.
6And he promised, and sought opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence of the multitude.
7Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed.
8And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat.
9And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare?
10And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in.
11And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?
12And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.
13And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.
14And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.
15And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:
16For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
17And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:
18For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.
19And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
20Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.
21But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table.
22And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed!
23And they began to enquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.
24And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.
25And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors.
26But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.
27For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.
28Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations.
29And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me;
30That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
31And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:
32But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
33And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.
34And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.
35And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing.
36Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.
37For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.
38And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.
39And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him.
40And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.
41And he was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,
42Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
43And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.
44And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
45And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow,
46And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.
47And while he yet spake, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him.
48But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?
49When they which were about him saw what would follow, they said unto him, Lord, shall we smite with the sword?
50And one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.
51And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.
52Then Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders, which were come to him, Be ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and staves?
53When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.
54Then took they him, and led him, and brought him into the high priest’s house. And Peter followed afar off.
55And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were set down together, Peter sat down among them.
56But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him.
57And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not.
58And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not.
59And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him: for he is a Galilæan.
60And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew.
61And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
62And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.
63And the men that held Jesus mocked him, and smote him.
64And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee?
65And many other things blasphemously spake they against him.
66And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led him into their council, saying,
67Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe:
68And if I also ask you, ye will not answer me, nor let me go.
69Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.
70Then said they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am.
71And they said, What need we any further witness? for we ourselves have heard of his own mouth.

1Now the feast of unleavened bread, which is called the Passover, was approaching.
2The chief priests and the scribes sought how they might put him to death, for they feared the people.
3Satan entered into Judas, who was also called Iscariot, who was counted with the twelve.
4He went away and talked with the chief priests and captains about how he might deliver him to them.
5They were glad, and agreed to give him money.
6He consented and sought an opportunity to deliver him to them in the absence of the multitude.
7The day of unleavened bread came, on which the Passover must be sacrificed.
8Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat.”
9They said to him, “Where do you want us to prepare?”
10He said to them, “Behold, when you have entered into the city, a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you. Follow him into the house which he enters.
11Tell the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?”’
12He will show you a large, furnished upper room. Make preparations there.”
13They went, found things as Jesus had told them, and they prepared the Passover.
14When the hour had come, he sat down with the twelve apostles.
15He said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer,
16for I tell you, I will no longer by any means eat of it until it is fulfilled in God’s Kingdom.”
17He received a cup, and when he had given thanks, he said, “Take this and share it among yourselves,
18for I tell you, I will not drink at all again from the fruit of the vine, until God’s Kingdom comes.”
19He took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body which is given for you. Do this in memory of me.”
20Likewise, he took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.
21But behold, the hand of him who betrays me is with me on the table.
22The Son of Man indeed goes as it has been determined, but woe to that man through whom he is betrayed!”
23They began to question among themselves which of them it was who would do this thing.
24A dispute also arose among them, which of them was considered to be greatest.
25He said to them, “The kings of the nations lord it over them, and those who have authority over them are called ‘benefactors.’
26But not so with you. Rather, the one who is greater among you, let him become as the younger, and one who is governing, as one who serves.
27For who is greater, one who sits at the table, or one who serves? Isn’t it he who sits at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.
28“But you are those who have continued with me in my trials.
29I confer on you a kingdom, even as my Father conferred on me,
30that you may eat and drink at my table in my Kingdom. You will sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”
31The Lord said, “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan asked to have all of you, that he might sift you as wheat,
32but I prayed for you, that your faith wouldn’t fail. You, when once you have turned again, establish your brothers.”
33He said to him, “Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death!”
34He said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will by no means crow today until you deny that you know me three times.”
35He said to them, “When I sent you out without purse, bag, and sandals, did you lack anything?” They said, “Nothing.”
36Then he said to them, “But now, whoever has a purse, let him take it, and likewise a bag. Whoever has none, let him sell his cloak, and buy a sword.
37For I tell you that this which is written must still be fulfilled in me: ‘He was counted with transgressors.’ For that which concerns me is being fulfilled.”
38They said, “Lord, behold, here are two swords.” He said to them, “That is enough.”
39He came out and went, as his custom was, to the Mount of Olives. His disciples also followed him.
40When he was at the place, he said to them, “Pray that you don’t enter into temptation.”
41He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and he knelt down and prayed,
42saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”
43An angel from heaven appeared to him, strengthening him.
44Being in agony, he prayed more earnestly. His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down on the ground.
45When he rose up from his prayer, he came to the disciples and found them sleeping because of grief,
46and said to them, “Why do you sleep? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation.”
47While he was still speaking, a crowd appeared. He who was called Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He came near to Jesus to kiss him.
48But Jesus said to him, “Judas, do you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?”
49When those who were around him saw what was about to happen, they said to him, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?”
50A certain one of them struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.
51But Jesus answered, “Let me at least do this”—and he touched his ear and healed him.
52Jesus said to the chief priests, captains of the temple, and elders, who had come against him, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs?
53When I was with you in the temple daily, you didn’t stretch out your hands against me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness.”
54They seized him and led him away, and brought him into the high priest’s house. But Peter followed from a distance.
55When they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and had sat down together, Peter sat among them.
56A certain servant girl saw him as he sat in the light, and looking intently at him, said, “This man also was with him.”
57He denied Jesus, saying, “Woman, I don’t know him.”
58After a little while someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them!” But Peter answered, “Man, I am not!”
59After about one hour passed, another confidently affirmed, saying, “Truly this man also was with him, for he is a Galilean!”
60But Peter said, “Man, I don’t know what you are talking about!” Immediately, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed.
61The Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the Lord’s word, how he said to him, “Before the rooster crows you will deny me three times.”
62He went out, and wept bitterly.
63The men who held Jesus mocked him and beat him.
64Having blindfolded him, they struck him on the face and asked him, “Prophesy! Who is the one who struck you?”
65They spoke many other things against him, insulting him.
66As soon as it was day, the assembly of the elders of the people were gathered together, both chief priests and scribes, and they led him away into their council, saying,
67“If you are the Christ, tell us.” But he said to them, “If I tell you, you won’t believe,
68and if I ask, you will in no way answer me or let me go.
69From now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the power of God.”
70They all said, “Are you then the Son of God?” He said to them, “You say it, because I am.”
71They said, “Why do we need any more witness? For we ourselves have heard from his own mouth!”
