1Naqueles dias, quando ele estava pregando e ensinando a boa-nova no templo, foi interrogado pelos sacerdotes principais e mestres da lei e outros líderes religiosos,
2e lhe perguntaram: “Com que autoridade o senhor está fazendo essas coisas? Quem lhe deu essa autoridade?”
3Ele respondeu: “Eu lhes farei uma pergunta. Digam-me:
4O batismo de João era do céu, ou estava agindo apenas por sua própria autoridade?”
5Eles conversavam entre si: “Se dissermos que o batismo dele era do céu, cairemos na armadilha, porque ele perguntará: ‘Então por que vocês não creram nele?’
6Mas se dissermos que João não foi enviado por Deus, o povo nos apedrejará, porque todos estão convencidos de que João era profeta”.
7Finalmente eles responderam: “Nós não sabemos quem deu autoridade a João para batizar!”
8E Jesus respondeu: “Neste caso, eu também não responderei com que autoridade estou fazendo estas coisas”.
9Então Jesus voltou-se outra vez para o povo e contou-lhes esta parábola: “Um homem plantou uma vinha, arrendou-a a alguns lavradores, e foi embora para uma terra distante, por um longo tempo.
10Quando chegou a época da colheita, ele enviou um dos seus servos à propriedade para receber a sua parte do fruto da vinha. Mas os lavradores bateram nele e o mandaram de volta de mãos vazias.
11Então ele mandou outro servo, mas aconteceu a mesma coisa; ele foi espancado, trataram-no de maneira humilhante, e o mandaram embora sem receber nada.
12Foi mandado um terceiro servo e aconteceu a mesma coisa. Este também foi ferido e expulso da vinha.
13“Então o dono da vinha disse: ‘Que vou fazer? Já sei! Enviarei o meu filho amado. Certamente eles mostrarão respeito por ele’.
14“Mas quando os lavradores viram o filho, disseram: ‘Esta é a nossa hora! Este é o herdeiro. Vamos! Vamos matá-lo, e assim a herança será nossa’.
15Então eles o arrastaram para fora da vinha e o mataram. “Que acham vocês que o dono da vinha fará?
16Eu lhes direi. Ele virá e matará aqueles lavradores e dará a vinha para outros”. Quando o povo ouviu isso, disse: “Que Deus não permita que isso aconteça”.
17Jesus olhou bem para eles e disse: “Então que significa a Escritura que diz: ‘A pedra que os construtores rejeitaram acabou se tornando a pedra mais importante de toda a construção’?”
18E ele acrescentou: “Qualquer que tropeçar nessa pedra será despedaçado; e aqueles sobre quem ela cair serão transformados em pó”.
19Quando os mestres da lei e os sacerdotes principais ouviram essa parábola, quiseram prendê-lo imediatamente, porque entenderam que era deles que estava falando. Porém tiveram medo de que houvesse uma revolta do povo se o prendessem.
20Então, esperavam que ele dissesse alguma coisa que pudesse ser denunciada ao governador romano como razão para que este o prendesse. Assim, mandaram espiões fingindo ser homens justos.
21Estes disseram a Jesus: “Mestre, nós sabemos que o Senhor é um mestre sincero. Fala sempre o que é certo e que não mostra parcialidade, mas ensina os caminhos de Deus, conforme a verdade.
22Agora, diga-nos: É certo pagar impostos ao governador romano ou não?”
23Jesus percebeu o fingimento deles e disse:
24“Mostrem-me um denário. De quem é este retrato que está nele? E de quem é o nome?”
25Eles responderam: “De César, imperador romano”. Ele lhes disse: “Então, entreguem a César o que é de César, e a Deus o que é de Deus!”
26Assim falhou a tentativa de confundir Jesus diante do povo; maravilhados da resposta dele, ficaram calados.
27Então alguns saduceus, homens que acreditavam que a morte é o fim da existência, e que não há ressurreição, vieram a Jesus com esta pergunta:
28“Mestre, as leis de Moisés declaram que, se um homem morrer sem filhos, o irmão dele se casará com a viúva, e os filhos deles pertencerão legalmente ao irmão morto, para manter o seu nome.
29Havia uma família de sete irmãos. O mais velho casou-se e logo morreu sem deixar filhos.
30O irmão dele casou com a viúva, mas ele também morreu,
31e o terceiro também, e assim foi, um após outro, até que cada um dos sete havia se casado com ela e morrido, não deixando filhos.
32Finalmente morreu também a mulher.
33Agora, esta é a nossa pergunta: De quem ela será esposa na ressurreição, pois todos eles foram casados com ela!”
34Jesus respondeu: “O casamento é para pessoas aqui na terra.
35Mas quando chegarem ao céu os que forem considerados dignos de alcançar a ressurreição dos mortos e a vida futura não se casarão.
36E não morrerão nunca mais; nesse aspecto, serão como os anjos, e serão filhos de Deus, porque são filhos da ressurreição.
37Mas, quanto à verdadeira pergunta de vocês — se há ou não ressurreição — ora, os escritos do próprio Moisés provam isso. Pois quando descreve como Deus lhe apareceu na sarça ardente, ele fala de Deus como ‘o Deus de Abraão, o Deus de Isaque e o Deus de Jacó’.
38Ele não é Deus de mortos, mas de vivos, pois para ele todos vivem”.
39“Bem respondido, Senhor!”, afirmaram alguns dos mestres da lei, que estavam ali.
40E aquilo acabou com as perguntas deles, porque não tiveram coragem de perguntar mais nada!
41Então ele fez a eles uma pergunta: “Como dizem que o Cristo, o Messias, é Filho do rei Davi?
42“Pois o próprio Davi escreveu no livro dos Salmos: ‘O Senhor disse ao meu Senhor: Sente-se à minha direita
43até que eu ponha os seus inimigos debaixo dos seus pés’.
44Portanto, se Davi chama o Messias de ‘Senhor’, como é que o Messias poder ser seu filho?”
45Então, com o povo ouvindo, ele voltou-se para seus discípulos e disse:
46“Cuidado com os mestres da lei, porque eles gostam de andar com roupas caras e querem que o povo se curve diante deles quando caminham pelas praças. E como gostam dos lugares mais importantes nas sinagogas e os lugares de honra nas festas!
47Porém, no mesmo momento em que fazem longas orações para o povo escutar e procuram mostrar grande bondade, fazem planos para explorar as viúvas. Portanto, está reservado para esses homens o mais duro castigo de Deus”.

1Y ACONTECIÓ un día, que enseñando él al pueblo en el templo, y anunciando el evangelio, llegáronse los príncipes de los sacerdotes y los escribas, con los ancianos;
2Y le hablaron, diciendo: Dinos: ¿con qué potestad haces estas cosas? ¿ó quién es el que te ha dado esta potestad?
3Respondiendo entonces Jesús, les dijo: Os preguntaré yo también una palabra; respondedme:
4El bautismo de Juan, ¿era del cielo, ó de los hombres?
5Mas ellos pensaban dentro de sí, diciendo: Si dijéremos, del cielo, dirá: ¿Por qué, pues, no le creísteis?
6Y si dijéremos, de los hombres, todo el pueblo nos apedreará: porque están ciertos que Juan era profeta.
7Y respondieron que no sabían de dónde.
8Entonces Jesús les dijo: Ni yo os digo con qué potestad hago estas cosas.
9Y comenzó á decir al pueblo esta parábola: Un hombre plantó una viña, y arrendóla á labradores, y se ausentó por mucho tiempo.
10Y al tiempo, envió un siervo á los labradores, para que le diesen del fruto de la viña; mas los labradores le hirieron, y enviaron vacío.
11Y volvió á enviar otro siervo; mas ellos á éste también, herido y afrentado, le enviaron vacío.
12Y volvió á enviar al tercer siervo; mas ellos también á éste echaron herido.
13Entonces el señor de la viña dijo: ¿Qué haré? Enviaré mi hijo amado: quizás cuando á éste vieren, tendrán respeto.
14Mas los labradores, viéndole, pensaron entre sí, diciendo: Este es el heredero; venid, matémosle para que la heredad sea nuestra.
15Y echáronle fuera de la viña, y le mataron. ¿Qué pues, les hará el señor de la viña?
16Vendrá, y destruirá á estos labradores, y dará su viña á otros. Y como ellos lo oyeron, dijeron: ¡Dios nos libre!
17Mas él mirándolos, dice: ¿Qué pues es lo que está escrito: La piedra que condenaron los edificadores, ésta fué por cabeza de esquina?
18Cualquiera que cayere sobre aquella piedra, será quebrantado; mas sobre el que la piedra cayere, le desmenuzará.
19Y procuraban los príncipes de los sacerdotes y los escribas echarle mano en aquella hora, porque entendieron que contra ellos había dicho esta parábola: mas temieron al pueblo.
20Y acechándole enviaron espías que se simulasen justos, para sorprenderle en palabras, para que le entregasen al principado y á la potestad del presidente.
21Los cuales le preguntaron, diciendo: Maestro, sabemos que dices y enseñas bien, y que no tienes respeto á persona; antes enseñas el camino de Dios con verdad.
22¿Nos es lícito dar tributo á César, ó no?
23Mas él, entendiendo la astucia de ellos, les dijo: ¿Por qué me tentáis?
24Mostradme la moneda. ¿De quién tiene la imagen y la inscripción? Y respondiendo dijeron: De César.
25Entonces les dijo: Pues dad á César lo que es de César; y lo que es de Dios, á Dios.
26Y no pudieron reprender sus palabras delante del pueblo: antes maravillados de su respuesta, callaron.
27Y llegándose unos de los Saduceos, los cuales niegan haber resurrección, le preguntaron,
28Diciendo: Maestro, Moisés nos escribió: Si el hermano de alguno muriere teniendo mujer, y muriere sin hijos, que su hermano tome la mujer, y levante simiente á su hermano.
29Fueron, pues, siete hermanos: y el primero tomó mujer, y murió sin hijos.
30Y la tomó el segundo, el cual también murió sin hijos.
31Y la tomó el tercero: asimismo también todos siete: y murieron sin dejar prole.
32Y á la postre de todos murió también la mujer.
33En la resurrección, pues, ¿mujer de cuál de ellos será? porque los siete la tuvieron por mujer.
34Entonces respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: Los hijos de este siglo se casan, y son dados en casamiento:
35Mas los que fueren tenidos por dignos de aquel siglo y de la resurrección de los muertos, ni se casan, ni son dados en casamiento:
36Porque no pueden ya más morir: porque son iguales á los ángeles, y son hijos de Dios, cuando son hijos de la resurrección.
37Y que los muertos hayan de resucitar, aun Moisés lo enseñó en el pasaje de la zarza, cuando llama al Señor: Dios de Abraham, y Dios de Isaac, y Dios de Jacob.
38Porque Dios no es Dios de muertos, mas de vivos: porque todos viven á él.
39Y respondiéndole unos de los escribas, dijeron: Maestro, bien has dicho.
40Y no osaron más preguntarle algo.
41Y él les dijo: ¿Cómo dicen que el Cristo es hijo de David?
42Y el mismo David dice en el libro de los Salmos: Dijo el Señor á mi Señor: Siéntate á mi diestra,
43Entre tanto que pongo tus enemigos por estrado de tus pies.
44Así que David le llama Señor: ¿cómo pues es su hijo?
45Y oyéndole todo el pueblo, dijo á sus discípulos:
46Guardaos de los escribas, que quieren andar con ropas largas, y aman las salutaciones en las plazas, y las primeras sillas en las sinagogas, y los primeros asientos en las cenas;
47Que devoran las casas de las viudas, poniendo por pretexto la larga oración: éstos recibirán mayor condenación.

1And it came to pass, that on one of those days, as he taught the people in the temple, and preached the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes came upon him with the elders,
2And spake unto him, saying, Tell us, by what authority doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority?
3And he answered and said unto them, I will also ask you one thing; and answer me:
4The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men?
5And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then believed ye him not?
6But and if we say, Of men; all the people will stone us: for they be persuaded that John was a prophet.
7And they answered, that they could not tell whence it was.
8And Jesus said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.
9Then began he to speak to the people this parable; A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it forth to husbandmen, and went into a far country for a long time.
10And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard: but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away empty.
11And again he sent another servant: and they beat him also, and entreated him shamefully, and sent him away empty.
12And again he sent a third: and they wounded him also, and cast him out.
13Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be they will reverence him when they see him.
14But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.
15So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do unto them?
16He shall come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid.
17And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?
18Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
19And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them.
20And they watched him, and sent forth spies, which should feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him unto the power and authority of the governor.
21And they asked him, saying, Master, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, neither acceptest thou the person of any, but teachest the way of God truly:
22Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Cæsar, or no?
23But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, Why tempt ye me?
24Shew me a penny. Whose image and superscription hath it? They answered and said, Cæsar’s.
25And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Cæsar the things which be Cæsar’s, and unto God the things which be God’s.
26And they could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace.
27Then came to him certain of the Sadducees, which deny that there is any resurrection; and they asked him,
28Saying, Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man’s brother die, having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
29There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died without children.
30And the second took her to wife, and he died childless.
31And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: and they left no children, and died.
32Last of all the woman died also.
33Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife.
34And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage:
35But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:
36Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
37Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.
38For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.
39Then certain of the scribes answering said, Master, thou hast well said.
40And after that they durst not ask him any question at all.
41And he said unto them, How say they that Christ is David’s son?
42And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
43Till I make thine enemies thy footstool.
44David therefore calleth him Lord, how is he then his son?
45Then in the audience of all the people he said unto his disciples,
46Beware of the scribes, which desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts;
47Which devour widows’ houses, and for a shew make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation.

1On one of those days, as he was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the Good News, the priests and scribes came to him with the elders.
2They asked him, “Tell us: by what authority do you do these things? Or who is giving you this authority?”
3He answered them, “I also will ask you one question. Tell me:
4the baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men?”
5They reasoned with themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, ‘Why didn’t you believe him?’
6But if we say, ‘From men,’ all the people will stone us, for they are persuaded that John was a prophet.”
7They answered that they didn’t know where it was from.
8Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”
9He began to tell the people this parable: “A man planted a vineyard and rented it out to some farmers, and went into another country for a long time.
10At the proper season, he sent a servant to the farmers to collect his share of the fruit of the vineyard. But the farmers beat him and sent him away empty.
11He sent yet another servant, and they also beat him and treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty.
12He sent yet a third, and they also wounded him and threw him out.
13The lord of the vineyard said, ‘What shall I do? I will send my beloved son. It may be that seeing him, they will respect him.’
14“But when the farmers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.’
15Then they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do to them?
16He will come and destroy these farmers, and will give the vineyard to others.” When they heard that, they said, “May that never be!”
17But he looked at them and said, “Then what is this that is written, ‘The stone which the builders rejected was made the chief cornerstone’?
18Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces, but it will crush whomever it falls on to dust.”
19The chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on him that very hour, but they feared the people—for they knew he had spoken this parable against them.
20They watched him and sent out spies, who pretended to be righteous, that they might trap him in something he said, so as to deliver him up to the power and authority of the governor.
21They asked him, “Teacher, we know that you say and teach what is right, and aren’t partial to anyone, but truly teach the way of God.
22Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”
23But he perceived their craftiness, and said to them, “Why do you test me?
24Show me a denarius. Whose image and inscription are on it?” They answered, “Caesar’s.”
25He said to them, “Then give to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”
26They weren’t able to trap him in his words before the people. They marveled at his answer and were silent.
27Some of the Sadducees came to him, those who deny that there is a resurrection.
28They asked him, “Teacher, Moses wrote to us that if a man’s brother dies having a wife, and he is childless, his brother should take the wife and raise up children for his brother.
29There were therefore seven brothers. The first took a wife, and died childless.
30The second took her as wife, and he died childless.
31The third took her, and likewise the seven all left no children, and died.
32Afterward the woman also died.
33Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them will she be? For the seven had her as a wife.”
34Jesus said to them, “The children of this age marry and are given in marriage.
35But those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage.
36For they can’t die any more, for they are like the angels and are children of God, being children of the resurrection.
37But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed at the bush, when he called the Lord ‘The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’
38Now he is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for all are alive to him.”
39Some of the scribes answered, “Teacher, you speak well.”
40They didn’t dare to ask him any more questions.
41He said to them, “Why do they say that the Christ is David’s son?
42David himself says in the book of Psalms, ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand,
43until I make your enemies the footstool of your feet.”’
44“David therefore calls him Lord, so how is he his son?”
45In the hearing of all the people, he said to his disciples,
46“Beware of those scribes who like to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces, the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts;
47who devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation.”
