And it came to pass, after Israel was taken captive, and Jerusalem made desolate, that Jeremias sat weeping, and lamented with this lamentation over Jerusalem, and said ALEPH. How does the city that was filled with people sit solitary! she is become as a widow: she that was magnified among the nations, and princess among the provinces, has become tributary.
2BETH. She weeps sore in the night, and her tears are on her cheeks; and there is none of all her lovers to comfort her: all that were her friends have dealt deceitfully with her, they are become her enemies.
3GIMEL. Judea is gone into captivity by reason of her affliction, and by reason of the abundance of her servitude: she dwells among the nations, she has not found rest: all her pursuers have overtaken her between her oppressors.
4DALETH. The ways of Sion mourn, See use of para, 1 Co 12:15, 16 because there are none that come to the feast: all her gates are ruined: her priests groan, her virgins are led captive, and she is in bitterness in herself.
5HE. Her oppressors are become the head, and her enemies have prospered; for the Lord has afflicted her because of the multitude of her Gr. ungodlinesses sins: her young children are gone into captivity before the face of the oppressor.
6VAU. And all her beauty has been taken away from the daughter of Sion: her princes were as rams finding no pasture, and are gone away in weakness before the face of the pursuer.
7ZAIN. Jerusalem remembered the days of her affliction, and her Gr. plural rejection; she thought on all her desirable things which were from the days of old, when her people fell into the hands of the oppressor, and there was none to help her: when her enemies saw it they laughed at Heb. q. d. her sabbatism; A. V. her sabbaths; Alex. her captivity her habitation.
8HETH. Jerusalem has sinned a great sin; therefore has she come into tribulation, all that used to honour her have afflicted her, for they have seen her shame: yea, she herself groaned, and turned backward.
9TETH. Her uncleanness is before her feet; she remembered not her last end; she has lowered her Gr. plural boasting tone, there is none to comfort her. Behold, O Lord, my affliction: for the enemy has magnified himself.
10JOD. The oppressor has stretched out his hand on all her desirable things: for she has seen the Gentiles entering into her sanctuary, concerning whom thou didst command that they should not enter into thy congregation.
11CHAPH. All her people groan, seeking bread: they have given their desirable things for meat, to restore their soul: behold, Lord, and look; for she is become dishonoured.
12LAMED. All ye that pass by the way, turn, and see if there is sorrow like to my sorrow, which has happened to me. The Lord who spoke by me has afflicted me in the day of his fierce anger.
13MEM. He has sent fire from his lofty habitation, he has brought it into my bones: he has spread a net for my feet, he has turned me back: he has made me desolate and mourning all the day.
14NUN. He has watched over my sins, they are twined about my hands, they have come up on my neck: my strength has failed; for the Lord has laid pains on my hands, I shall not be able to stand.
15SAMECH. The Lord has cut off all my strong men from the midst of me: he has summoned against me a time for crushing my choice men: the Lord has trodden a wine-press for the virgin daughter of Juda: for these things I weep.
16AIN. Mine eye has poured out water, because he that should comfort me, that should restore my soul, has been removed far from me: my sons have been destroyed, because the enemy has prevailed.
17PHE. Sion has spread out her hand, and there is none to comfort her: the Lord has commanded concerning Jacob, his oppressors are round about him: Jerusalem has become among them as a removed woman.
18TSADE. The Lord is righteous; for I have provoked his mouth: hear, I pray you, Or, peoples all people, and behold my grief: my virgins and my young men are gone into captivity.
19KOPH. I called my lovers, but they deceived me: my priests and my elders failed in the city; for they sought meat that they might restore their souls, and found it not.
20RHECHS. Behold, O Lord; for I am afflicted: my belly is troubled, and my heart is turned within me; for I Or, have provoked and been provoked have been grievously rebellious: abroad the sword has bereaved me, even as death at home.
21CHSEN. Hear, I pray you, for I groan: there is none to comfort me: all mine enemies have heard of mine afflictions, and rejoice because thou hast done it: thou hast brought on the day, thou hast called the time: they are become like to me.
22THAU. Let all their wickedness come before thy face; and strip them, as they have made a gleaning for all my sins: for my groans are many, and my heart is grieved.

1¡CÓMO está sentada sola la ciudad populosa! La grande entre las naciones se ha vuelto como viuda, la señora de provincias es hecha tributaria.
2Amargamente llora en la noche, y sus lágrimas en sus mejillas; no tiene quien la consuele de todos sus amadores: todos sus amigos le faltaron, volviéronsele enemigos.
3Fuése Judá, á causa de la aflicción, y de la grandeza de servidumbre; ella moró entre las gentes, y no halló descanso: todos sus perseguidores la alcanzaron entre estrechuras.
4Las calzadas de Sión tienen luto, porque no hay quien venga á las solemnidades; todas sus puertas están asoladas, sus sacerdotes gimen, sus vírgenes afligidas, y ella tiene amargura.
5Sus enemigos han sido hechos cabeza, sus aborrecedores fueron prosperados; porque Jehová la afligió por la multitud de sus rebeliones: sus niños fueron en cautividad delante del enemigo.
6Fuése de la hija de Sión toda su hermosura: sus príncipes fueron como ciervos que no hallan pasto, y anduvieron sin fortaleza delante del perseguidor.
7Jerusalem, cuando cayó su pueblo en mano del enemigo y no hubo quien le ayudase, se acordó de los días de su aflicción, y de sus rebeliones, y de todas sus cosas deseables que tuvo desde los tiempos antiguos: miráronla los enemigos, y escarnecieron de sus sábados.
8Pecado cometió Jerusalem; por lo cual ella ha sido removida: todos los que la honraban la han menospreciado, porque vieron su vergüenza; y ella suspira, y se vuelve atrás.
9Sus inmundicias en sus faldas; no se acordó de su postrimería: por tanto ella ha descendido maravillosamente, no tiene consolador. Mira, oh Jehová, mi aflicción, porque el enemigo se ha engrandecido.
10Extendió su mano el enemigo á todas sus cosas preciosas; y ella ha visto entrar en su santuario las gentes, de las cuales mandaste que no entrasen en tu congregación.
11Todo su pueblo buscó su pan suspirando; dieron por la comida todas sus cosas preciosas, para entretener la vida. Mira, oh Jehová, y ve que estoy abatida.
12¿No os conmueve á cuantos pasáis por el camino? Mirad, y ved si hay dolor como mi dolor que me ha venido; porque Jehová me ha angustiado en el día de la ira de su furor.
13Desde lo alto envió fuego en mis huesos, el cual se enseñoreó: ha extendido red á mis pies, tornóme atrás, púsome asolada, y que siempre tenga dolor.
14El yugo de mis rebeliones está ligado por su mano, enlazadas han subido sobre mi cerviz: ha hecho caer mis fuerzas: hame entregado el Señor en sus manos, contra quienes no podré levantarme.
15El Señor ha hollado todos mis fuertes en medio de mí; llamó contra mí compañía para quebrantar mis mancebos: como lagar ha pisado el Señor á la virgen hija de Judá.
16Por esta causa yo lloro; mis ojos, mis ojos fluyen aguas; porque se alejó de mí consolador que dé reposo á mi alma: mis hijos son destruídos, porque el enemigo prevaleció.
17Sión extendió sus manos, no tiene quien la consuele; Jehová dió mandamiento contra Jacob, que sus enemigos lo cercasen: Jerusalem fué en abominación entre ellos.
18Jehová es justo; que yo contra su boca me rebelé. Oid ahora, pueblos todos, y ved mi dolor: mis vírgenes y mis mancebos fueron en cautiverio.
19Dí voces á mis amadores, mas ellos me han engañado; mis sacerdotes y mis ancianos en la ciudad perecieron, buscando comida para sí con que entretener su vida.
20Mira, oh Jehová, que estoy atribulada: mis entrañas rugen, mi corazón está trastornado en medio de mí; porque me rebelé desaforadamente: de fuera deshijó el cuchillo, de dentro parece una muerte.
21Oyeron que gemía, y no hay consolador para mí: todos mis enemigos han oído mi mal, se han holgado de que tú lo hiciste. Harás venir el día que has anunciado, y serán como yo.
22Entre delante de ti toda su maldad, y haz con ellos como hiciste conmigo por todas mis rebeliones: porque muchos son mis suspiros, y mi corazón está doloroso.

1How doth the city sit solitary, that was full of people! how is she become as a widow! she that was great among the nations, and princess among the provinces, how is she become tributary!
2She weepeth sore in the night, and her tears are on her cheeks: among all her lovers she hath none to comfort her: all her friends have dealt treacherously with her, they are become her enemies.
3Judah is gone into captivity because of affliction, and because of great servitude: she dwelleth among the heathen, she findeth no rest: all her persecutors overtook her between the straits.
4The ways of Zion do mourn, because none come to the solemn feasts: all her gates are desolate: her priests sigh, her virgins are afflicted, and she is in bitterness.
5Her adversaries are the chief, her enemies prosper; for the LORD hath afflicted her for the multitude of her transgressions: her children are gone into captivity before the enemy.
6And from the daughter of Zion all her beauty is departed: her princes are become like harts that find no pasture, and they are gone without strength before the pursuer.
7Jerusalem remembered in the days of her affliction and of her miseries all her pleasant things that she had in the days of old, when her people fell into the hand of the enemy, and none did help her: the adversaries saw her, and did mock at her sabbaths.
8Jerusalem hath grievously sinned; therefore she is removed: all that honoured her despise her, because they have seen her nakedness: yea, she sigheth, and turneth backward.
9Her filthiness is in her skirts; she remembereth not her last end; therefore she came down wonderfully: she had no comforter. O LORD, behold my affliction: for the enemy hath magnified himself.
10The adversary hath spread out his hand upon all her pleasant things: for she hath seen that the heathen entered into her sanctuary, whom thou didst command that they should not enter into thy congregation.
11All her people sigh, they seek bread; they have given their pleasant things for meat to relieve the soul: see, O LORD, and consider; for I am become vile.
12Is it nothing to you, all ye that pass by? behold, and see if there be any sorrow like unto my sorrow, which is done unto me, wherewith the LORD hath afflicted me in the day of his fierce anger.
13From above hath he sent fire into my bones, and it prevaileth against them: he hath spread a net for my feet, he hath turned me back: he hath made me desolate and faint all the day.
14The yoke of my transgressions is bound by his hand: they are wreathed, and come up upon my neck: he hath made my strength to fall, the Lord hath delivered me into their hands, from whom I am not able to rise up.
15The Lord hath trodden under foot all my mighty men in the midst of me: he hath called an assembly against me to crush my young men: the Lord hath trodden the virgin, the daughter of Judah, as in a winepress.
16For these things I weep; mine eye, mine eye runneth down with water, because the comforter that should relieve my soul is far from me: my children are desolate, because the enemy prevailed.
17Zion spreadeth forth her hands, and there is none to comfort her: the LORD hath commanded concerning Jacob, that his adversaries should be round about him: Jerusalem is as a menstruous woman among them.
18The LORD is righteous; for I have rebelled against his commandment: hear, I pray you, all people, and behold my sorrow: my virgins and my young men are gone into captivity.
19I called for my lovers, but they deceived me: my priests and mine elders gave up the ghost in the city, while they sought their meat to relieve their souls.
20Behold, O LORD; for I am in distress: my bowels are troubled; mine heart is turned within me; for I have grievously rebelled: abroad the sword bereaveth, at home there is as death.
21They have heard that I sigh: there is none to comfort me: all mine enemies have heard of my trouble; they are glad that thou hast done it: thou wilt bring the day that thou hast called, and they shall be like unto me.

1How the city sits solitary, that was full of people! She has become as a widow, who was great among the nations! She who was a princess among the provinces has become a slave!
2She weeps bitterly in the night. Her tears are on her cheeks. Among all her lovers she has no one to comfort her. All her friends have dealt treacherously with her. They have become her enemies.
3Judah has gone into captivity because of affliction and because of great servitude. She dwells among the nations. She finds no rest. All her persecutors overtook her in her distress.
4The roads to Zion mourn, because no one comes to the solemn assembly. All her gates are desolate. Her priests sigh. Her virgins are afflicted, and she herself is in bitterness.
5Her adversaries have become the head. Her enemies prosper; for the LORD has afflicted her for the multitude of her transgressions. Her young children have gone into captivity before the adversary.
6All majesty has departed from the daughter of Zion. Her princes have become like deer that find no pasture. They have gone without strength before the pursuer.
7Jerusalem remembers in the days of her affliction and of her miseries all her pleasant things that were from the days of old; when her people fell into the hand of the adversary, and no one helped her. The adversaries saw her. They mocked at her desolations.
8Jerusalem has grievously sinned. Therefore she has become unclean. All who honored her despise her, because they have seen her nakedness. Yes, she sighs and turns backward.

18“The LORD is righteous, for I have rebelled against his commandment. Please hear all you peoples, and see my sorrow. My virgins and my young men have gone into captivity.
19“I called for my lovers, but they deceived me. My priests and my elders gave up the spirit in the city, while they sought food for themselves to refresh their souls.
20“Look, LORD; for I am in distress. My heart is troubled. My heart turns over within me, for I have grievously rebelled. Abroad, the sword bereaves. At home, it is like death.
21“They have heard that I sigh. There is no one to comfort me. All my enemies have heard of my trouble. They are glad that you have done it. You will bring the day that you have proclaimed, and they will be like me.
22“Let all their wickedness come before you. Do to them as you have done to me for all my transgressions. For my sighs are many, and my heart is faint.
