Josué 7

1Mais les enfants d’Israël se rendirent coupables au sujet de l’interdit : car Hacan fils de Carmi, fils de Zabdi, fils de Zara, de la Tribu de Juda, prit de l’interdit, et la colère de l’Eternel s’enflamma contre les enfants d’Israël.
2Car Josué envoya de Jérico des hommes vers Haï, qui était près de Bethaven du côté de l’Orient de Béthel, et leur parla, en disant : Montez, et reconnaissez le pays. Ces hommes donc montèrent et reconnurent Haï.
3Et étant retournés vers Josué, ils lui dirent : Que tout le peuple n’y monte point mais qu’environ deux mille ou trois mille hommes y montent, et ils battront Haï. Ne fatigue point tout le peuple en l’envoyant là ; car ils sont peu de gens.
4Ainsi environ trois mille hommes du peuple y montèrent, mais ils s’enfuirent de devant ceux de Haï.
5Et ceux de Haï en tuèrent environ trente-six hommes ; car ils les poursuivirent depuis le devant de la porte jusqu’à Sébarim, et les battirent en une descente ; et le coeur du peuple se fondit, et devint comme de l’eau.
6Alors Josué déchira ses vêtements, et se jeta, le visage contre terre, devant l’Arche de l’Eternel, jusqu’au soir, lui et les Anciens d’Israël, et ils jetèrent de la poudre sur leur tête.
7Et Josué dit : Hélas ! Seigneur Eternel, pourquoi as-tu fait si magnifiquement passer le Jourdain à ce peuple, pour nous livrer entre les mains de l’Amorrhéen, et nous faire périr ? Ô que n’avons-nous eu dans l’esprit de demeurer, et que ne sommes-nous demeurés au delà du Jourdain !
8Hélas ! Seigneur, que dirai-je, puisque Israël a tourné le dos devant ses ennemis ?
9Les Cananéens et tous les habitants du pays l’entendront, et nous envelopperont, et ils retrancheront notre nom de dessus la terre ; et que feras-tu à ton grand Nom ?
10Alors l’Eternel dit à Josué : Lève-toi ; pourquoi te jettes-tu ainsi le visage contre terre?
11Israël a péché ; ils ont transgressé mon alliance que je leur avais commandée, même ils ont pris de l’interdit ; même ils en ont dérobé ; même ils ont menti, et même ils l’ont mis dans leurs hardes.
12C’est pourquoi les enfants d’Israël ne pourront subsister devant leurs ennemis ; ils tourneront le dos devant leurs ennemis ; car ils sont devenus un interdit. Je ne serai plus avec vous si vous n’exterminez d’entre vous l’interdit.
13Lève-toi ; sanctifie le peuple, et dis : Sanctifiez-vous pour demain ; car ainsi a dit l’Eternel le Dieu d’Israël ; il y a de l’interdit parmi toi, ô Israël ! tu ne pourras subsister devant tes ennemis jusqu’à ce que vous ayez ôté l’interdit d’entre vous.
14Vous vous approcherez donc le matin selon vos Tribus ; et la Tribu que l’Eternel aura saisie s’approchera selon les familles ; et la famille que l’Eternel aura saisie s’approchera selon les maisons ; et la maison que l’Eternel aura saisie, s’approchera selon les têtes.
15Alors celui qui aura été saisi en l’interdit, sera brûlé au feu, lui et tout ce qui est à lui ; à cause qu’il a transgressé l’alliance de l’Eternel, et qu’il a commis une infamie en Israël.
16Josué donc se leva de bon matin, et fit approcher Israël selon ses Tribus ; et la Tribu de Juda fut saisie.
17Puis il fit approcher les familles de Juda, et il saisit la famille de ceux qui étaient descendus de Zara. Puis il fit approcher par têtes la famille de ceux qui étaient descendus de Zara, et Zabdi fut saisi.
18Et quand il eut fait approcher sa maison par têtes, Hacan fils de Carmi, fils de Zabdi, fils de Zara, de la Tribu de Juda, fut saisi.
19Alors Josué dit à Hacan : Mon fils, donne, je te prie, gloire à l’Eternel le Dieu d’Israël, et fais-lui confession ; et déclare-moi, je te prie, ce que tu as fait ; ne me le cache point.
20Et Hacan répondit à Josué, et dit : J’ai péché, il est vrai, contre l’Eternel le Dieu d’Israël, et j’ai fait telle et telle chose.
21J’ai vu parmi le butin un beau manteau de Sinhar, deux cents sicles d’argent, et un lingot d’or du poids de cinquante sicles ; je les ai convoités, je les ai pris ; et voilà ces choses sont cachées en terre au milieu de ma tente, et l’argent est sous le manteau.
22Alors Josué envoya des messagers qui coururent à cette tente ; et voici le manteau était caché dans la tente d’Hacan, et l’argent sous le manteau.
23Ils les prirent donc du milieu de la tente, et les apportèrent à Josué, et à tous les enfants d’Israël, et ils les déployèrent devant l’Eternel.
24Alors Josué et tout Israël avec lui, prenant Hacan fils de Zara, et l’argent, et le manteau, et le lingot d’or, et ses fils, et ses filles, et ses boeufs, et ses ânes, et ses brebis, et sa tente, et tout ce qui était à lui, les firent venir en la vallée de Hacor.
25Et Josué dit : Pourquoi nous as-tu troublés ? l’Eternel te troublera aujourd’hui. Et tous les Israélites l’assommèrent de pierres, et les brûlèrent au feu, après les avoir assommés de pierres.
26Et ils dressèrent sur lui un grand monceau de pierres, qui dure jusqu’à ce jour. Et l’Eternel apaisa l’ardeur de sa colère ; c’est pourquoi ce lieu-là a été appelé jusqu’à aujourd’hui, la vallée de Hacor.

1EMPERO los hijos de Israel cometieron prevaricación en el anatema: porque Achân, hijo de Carmi, hijo de Zabdi, hijo de Zera, de la tribu de Judá, tomó del anatema; y la ira de Jehová se encendió contra los hijos de Israel.
2Y Josué envió hombres desde Jericó á Hai, que estaba junto á Beth-aven hacia el oriente de Beth-el; y hablóles diciendo: Subid, y reconoced la tierra. Y ellos subieron, y reconocieron á Hai.
3Y volviendo á Josué, dijéronle: No suba todo el pueblo, mas suban como dos mil ó como tres mil hombres, y tomarán á Hai: no fatigues á todo el pueblo allí, porque son pocos.
4Y subieron allá del pueblo como tres mil hombres, los cuales huyeron delante de los de Hai.
5Y los de Hai hirieron de ellos como treinta y seis hombres, y siguiéronlos desde la puerta hasta Sebarim, y los rompieron en la bajada: por lo que se disolvió el corazón del pueblo, y vino á ser como agua.
6Entonces Josué rompió sus vestidos, y postróse en tierra sobre su rostro delante del arca de Jehová hasta la tarde, él y los ancianos de Israel; y echaron polvo sobre sus cabezas.
7Y Josué dijo: ¡Ah, Señor Jehová! ¿Por qué hiciste pasar á este pueblo el Jordán, para entregarnos en las manos de los Amorrheos, que nos destruyan? ¡Ojalá nos hubiéramos quedado de la otra parte del Jordán!
8¡Ay Señor! ¿qué diré, ya que Israel ha vuelto las espaldas delante de sus enemigos?
9Porque los Cananeos y todos los moradores de la tierra oirán, y nos cercarán, y raerán nuestro nombre de sobre la tierra: entonces ¿qué harás tú á tu grande nombre?
10Y Jehová dijo á Josué: Levántate; ¿por qué te postras así sobre tu rostro?
11Israel ha pecado, y aun han quebrantado mi pacto que yo les había mandado; pues aun han tomado del anatema, y hasta han hurtado, y también han mentido, y aun lo han guardado entre sus enseres.
12Por esto los hijos de Israel no podrán estar delante de sus enemigos, sino que delante de sus enemigos volverán las espaldas; por cuanto han venido á ser anatema: ni seré más con vosotros, si no destruyereis el anatema de en medio de vosotros.
13Levántate, santifica al pueblo, y di: Santificaos para mañana; porque Jehová el Dios de Israel dice así: Anatema hay en medio de ti, Israel; no podrás estar delante de tus enemigos, hasta tanto que hayáis quitado el anatema de en medio de vosotros.
14Os allegaréis, pues, mañana por vuestras tribus; y la tribu que Jehová tomare, se allegará por sus familias; y la familia que Jehová tomare, se allegará por sus casas; y la casa que Jehová tomare, allegaráse por los varones;
15Y el que fuere cogido en el anatema, será quemado á fuego, él y todo lo que tiene, por cuanto ha quebrantado el pacto de Jehová, y ha cometido maldad en Israel.
16Josué, pues, levantándose de mañana, hizo allegar á Israel por sus tribus; y fué tomada la tribu de Judá;
17Y haciendo allegar la tribu de Judá, fué tomada la familia de los de Zera; haciendo luego allegar la familia de los de Zera por los varones, fué tomado Zabdi;
18E hizo allegar su casa por los varones, y fué tomado Achân, hijo de Carmi, hijo de Zabdi, hijo de Zera, de la tribu de Judá.
19Entonces Josué dijo á Achân: Hijo mío, da gloria ahora á Jehová el Dios de Israel, y dale alabanza, y declárame ahora lo que has hecho; no me lo encubras.
20Y Achân respondió á Josué, diciendo: Verdaderamente yo he pecado contra Jehová el Dios de Israel, y he hecho así y así:
21Que vi entre los despojos un manto babilónico muy bueno, y doscientos siclos de plata, y un changote de oro de peso de cincuenta siclos; lo cual codicié, y tomé: y he aquí que está escondido debajo de tierra en el medio de mi tienda, y el dinero debajo de ello.
22Josué entonces envió mensajeros, los cuales fueron corriendo á la tienda; y he aquí estaba escondido en su tienda, y el dinero debajo de ello:
23Y tomándolo de en medio de la tienda, trajéronlo á Josué y á todos los hijos de Israel, y pusiéronlo delante de Jehová.
24Entonces Josué, y todo Israel con él, tomó á Achân hijo de Zera, y el dinero, y el manto, y el changote de oro, y sus hijos, y sus hijas, y sus bueyes, y sus asnos, y sus ovejas, y su tienda, y todo cuanto tenía, y lleváronlo todo al valle de Achôr;
25Y dijo Josué: ¿Por qué nos has turbado? Túrbete Jehová en este día. Y todos los Israelitas los apedrearon, y los quemaron á fuego, después de apedrearlos con piedras;
26Y levantaron sobre él un gran montón de piedras, hasta hoy. Y Jehová se tornó de la ira de su furor. Y por esto fué llamado aquel lugar el Valle de Achôr, hasta hoy.

1But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the accursed thing: for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed thing: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against the children of Israel.
2And Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Beth-aven, on the east side of Beth-el, and spake unto them, saying, Go up and view the country. And the men went up and viewed Ai.
3And they returned to Joshua, and said unto him, Let not all the people go up; but let about two or three thousand men go up and smite Ai; and make not all the people to labour thither; for they are but few.
4So there went up thither of the people about three thousand men: and they fled before the men of Ai.
5And the men of Ai smote of them about thirty and six men: for they chased them from before the gate even unto Shebarim, and smote them in the going down: wherefore the hearts of the people melted, and became as water.
6And Joshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of the LORD until the eventide, he and the elders of Israel, and put dust upon their heads.
7And Joshua said, Alas, O Lord GOD, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side Jordan!
8O Lord, what shall I say, when Israel turneth their backs before their enemies!
9For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land shall hear of it, and shall environ us round, and cut off our name from the earth: and what wilt thou do unto thy great name?
10And the LORD said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face?
11Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff.
12Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you.
13Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow: for thus saith the LORD God of Israel, There is an accursed thing in the midst of thee, O Israel: thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the accursed thing from among you.
14In the morning therefore ye shall be brought according to your tribes: and it shall be, that the tribe which the LORD taketh shall come according to the families thereof; and the family which the LORD shall take shall come by households; and the household which the LORD shall take shall come man by man.
15And it shall be, that he that is taken with the accursed thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he hath: because he hath transgressed the covenant of the LORD, and because he hath wrought folly in Israel.
16So Joshua rose up early in the morning, and brought Israel by their tribes; and the tribe of Judah was taken:
17And he brought the family of Judah; and he took the family of the Zarhites: and he brought the family of the Zarhites man by man; and Zabdi was taken:
18And he brought his household man by man; and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken.
19And Joshua said unto Achan, My son, give, I pray thee, glory to the LORD God of Israel, and make confession unto him; and tell me now what thou hast done; hide it not from me.
20And Achan answered Joshua, and said, Indeed I have sinned against the LORD God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done:
21When I saw among the spoils a goodly Babylonish garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.
22So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran unto the tent; and, behold, it was hid in his tent, and the silver under it.
23And they took them out of the midst of the tent, and brought them unto Joshua, and unto all the children of Israel, and laid them out before the LORD.
24And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the garment, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had: and they brought them unto the valley of Achor.
25And Joshua said, Why hast thou troubled us? the LORD shall trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burned them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones.
26And they raised over him a great heap of stones unto this day. So the LORD turned from the fierceness of his anger. Wherefore the name of that place was called, The valley of Achor, unto this day.
World English Bible
1But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the devoted things; for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of the devoted things. Therefore the LORD’s anger burned against the children of Israel.
2Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Beth Aven, on the east side of Bethel, and spoke to them, saying, “Go up and spy out the land.” The men went up and spied out Ai.
3They returned to Joshua, and said to him, “Don’t let all the people go up, but let about two or three thousand men go up and strike Ai. Don’t make all the people to toil there, for there are only a few of them.”
4So about three thousand men of the people went up there, and they fled before the men of Ai.
5The men of Ai struck about thirty-six men of them. They chased them from before the gate even to Shebarim, and struck them at the descent. The hearts of the people melted, and became like water.
6Joshua tore his clothes, and fell to the earth on his face before the LORD’s ark until the evening, he and the elders of Israel; and they put dust on their heads.
7Joshua said, “Alas, Lord GOD, why have you brought this people over the Jordan at all, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to cause us to perish? I wish that we had been content and lived beyond the Jordan!
8Oh, Lord, what shall I say, after Israel has turned their backs before their enemies?
9For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of it, and will surround us, and cut off our name from the earth. What will you do for your great name?”
10The LORD said to Joshua, “Get up! Why have you fallen on your face like that?
11Israel has sinned. Yes, they have even transgressed my covenant which I commanded them. Yes, they have even taken some of the devoted things, and have also stolen, and also deceived. They have even put it among their own stuff.
12Therefore the children of Israel can’t stand before their enemies. They turn their backs before their enemies, because they have become devoted for destruction. I will not be with you any more, unless you destroy the devoted things from among you.
13Get up! Sanctify the people, and say, ‘Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, for the LORD, the God of Israel, says, “There is a devoted thing among you, Israel. You cannot stand before your enemies until you take away the devoted thing from among you.”
14In the morning therefore you shall be brought near by your tribes. It shall be that the tribe which the LORD selects shall come near by families. The family which the LORD selects shall come near by households. The household which the LORD selects shall come near man by man.
15It shall be, that he who is taken with the devoted thing shall be burned with fire, he and all that he has, because he has transgressed the LORD’s covenant, and because he has done a disgraceful thing in Israel.’”
16So Joshua rose up early in the morning and brought Israel near by their tribes. The tribe of Judah was selected.
17He brought near the family of Judah, and he selected the family of the Zerahites. He brought near the family of the Zerahites man by man, and Zabdi was selected.
18He brought near his household man by man, and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was selected.
19Joshua said to Achan, “My son, please give glory to the LORD, the God of Israel, and make confession to him. Tell me now what you have done! Don’t hide it from me!”
20Achan answered Joshua, and said, “I have truly sinned against the LORD, the God of Israel, and this is what I have done.
21When I saw among the plunder a beautiful Babylonian robe, two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels, then I coveted them and took them. Behold, they are hidden in the ground in the middle of my tent, with the silver under it.”
22So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent. Behold, it was hidden in his tent, with the silver under it.
23They took them from the middle of the tent, and brought them to Joshua and to all the children of Israel. They laid them down before the LORD.
24Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, the silver, the robe, the wedge of gold, his sons, his daughters, his cattle, his donkeys, his sheep, his tent, and all that he had; and they brought them up to the valley of Achor.
25Joshua said, “Why have you troubled us? The LORD will trouble you today.” All Israel stoned him with stones, and they burned them with fire and stoned them with stones.
26They raised over him a great heap of stones that remains to this day. The LORD turned from the fierceness of his anger. Therefore the name of that place was called “The valley of Achor” to this day.
