1Josué, filho de Num, enviou secretamente de Sitim dois homens como espiões, dizendo: “Vão, observem a terra, incluindo Jericó.” Eles foram e entraram na casa de uma prostituta cujo nome era Raabe, e dormiram lá.
2Foi dito ao rei de Jericó: “Eis que, homens dos filhos de Israel entraram aqui esta noite para espiar a terra.”
3O rei de Jericó mandou dizer a Raabe: “Traga para fora os homens que vieram a você, que entraram na sua casa; pois eles vieram para espiar toda a terra.”
4A mulher tomou os dois homens e os escondeu. Então ela disse: “Sim, os homens vieram a mim, mas eu não sabia de onde eles eram.
5Na hora de fechar o portão, quando estava escuro, os homens saíram. Para onde os homens foram, eu não sei. Persigam-nos rapidamente. Vocês poderão alcançá-los.”
6Mas ela os havia levado para o terraço, e os escondido sob as hastes de linho que ela havia arrumado no terraço.
7Os homens os perseguiram pelo caminho até os vaus do rio Jordão. Assim que os perseguidores saíram, fecharam o portão.
8Antes que eles se deitassem, ela subiu até eles no terraço.
9Ela disse aos homens: “Eu sei que o SENHOR lhes deu a terra, e que o pavor de vocês caiu sobre nós, e que todos os habitantes da terra se derretem de medo diante de vocês.
10Pois nós ouvimos como o SENHOR secou a água do Mar Vermelho diante de vocês, quando saíram do Egito; e o que vocês fizeram aos dois reis dos amorreus, que estavam do outro lado do Jordão, a Seom e a Ogue, os quais vocês destruíram totalmente.
11Assim que ouvimos isso, nossos corações se derreteram, e não houve mais ânimo em ninguém, por causa de vocês: pois o SENHOR, seu Deus, ele é Deus em cima nos céus e embaixo na terra.
12Agora, portanto, por favor, jurem-me pelo SENHOR, já que eu os tratei com bondade, que vocês também tratarão com bondade a casa de meu pai, e me deem um sinal seguro;
13e que pouparão a vida de meu pai, minha mãe, meus irmãos e minhas irmãs, e tudo o que eles têm, e livrarão as nossas vidas da morte.”
14Os homens disseram a ela: “A nossa vida pela de vocês, se você não contar sobre este nosso negócio; e acontecerá que, quando o SENHOR nos der a terra, nós a trataremos com bondade e fidelidade.”
15Então ela os desceu por uma corda pela janela; pois a sua casa ficava na lateral da muralha, e ela morava na muralha.
16Ela lhes disse: “Vão para a montanha, para que os perseguidores não os encontrem. Escondam-se lá por três dias, até que os perseguidores tenham voltado. Depois, vocês poderão seguir o seu caminho.”
17Os homens disseram a ela: “Nós estaremos desobrigados deste seu juramento que você nos fez jurar.
18Eis que, quando entrarmos na terra, amarre este cordão de fio escarlate na janela pela qual você nos desceu. Reúna com você na casa o seu pai, a sua mãe, os seus irmãos e toda a família de seu pai.
19Acontecerá que qualquer um que sair pelas portas da sua casa para a rua, o sangue dele estará sobre a sua própria cabeça, e nós seremos inocentes. Mas qualquer um que estiver com você na casa, o sangue dele estará sobre a nossa cabeça, se alguma mão o tocar.
20Mas se você contar sobre este nosso negócio, então estaremos desobrigados do juramento que você nos fez jurar.”
21Ela disse: “Que seja como vocês disseram.” Ela os despediu, e eles partiram. Então ela amarrou o cordão escarlate na janela.
22Eles foram e chegaram à montanha, e ficaram lá três dias, até que os perseguidores tivessem voltado. Os perseguidores os buscaram por todo o caminho, mas não os encontraram.
23Então os dois homens voltaram, desceram da montanha, atravessaram o rio e chegaram a Josué, filho de Num. Eles lhe contaram tudo o que lhes havia acontecido.
24Eles disseram a Josué: “Verdadeiramente o SENHOR entregou toda a terra em nossas mãos. Além disso, todos os habitantes da terra se derretem de medo diante de nós.”

1Y JOSUÉ, hijo de Nun, envió desde Sittim dos espías secretamente, diciéndoles: Andad, reconoced la tierra, y á Jericó. Los cuales fueron, y entráronse en casa de una mujer ramera que se llamaba Rahab, y posaron allí.
2Y fué dado aviso al rey de Jericó, diciendo: He aquí que hombres de los hijos de Israel han venido aquí esta noche á espiar la tierra.
3Entonces el rey de Jericó envió á decir á Rahab: Saca fuera los hombres que han venido á ti, y han entrado en tu casa; porque han venido á espiar toda la tierra.
4Mas la mujer había tomado los dos hombres, y los había escondido; y dijo: Verdad que hombres vinieron á mí, mas no supe de dónde eran:
5Y al cerrarse la puerta, siendo ya oscuro, esos hombres se salieron, y no sé á dónde se han ido: seguidlos apriesa, que los alcanzaréis.
6Mas ella los había hecho subir al terrado, y habíalos escondido entre tascos de lino que en aquel terrado tenía puestos.
7Y los hombres fueron tras ellos por el camino del Jordán, hasta los vados: y la puerta fué cerrada después que salieron los que tras ellos iban.
8Mas antes que ellos durmiesen, ella subió á ellos al terrado, y díjoles:
9Sé que Jehová os ha dado esta tierra; porque el temor de vosotros ha caído sobre nosotros, y todos los moradores del país están desmayados por causa de vosotros;
10Porque hemos oído que Jehová hizo secar las aguas del mar Bermejo delante de vosotros, cuando salisteis de Egipto, y lo que habéis hecho á los dos reyes de los Amorrheos que estaban de la parte allá del Jordán, á Sehón y á Og, á los cuales habéis destruído.
11Oyendo esto, ha desmayado nuestro corazón; ni ha quedado más espíritu en alguno por causa de vosotros: porque Jehová vuestro Dios es Dios arriba en los cielos y abajo en la tierra.
12Ruégoos pues ahora, me juréis por Jehová, que como he hecho misericordia con vosotros, así la haréis vosotros con la casa de mi padre, de lo cual me daréis una señal cierta;
13Y que salvaréis la vida á mi padre y á mi madre, y á mis hermanos y hermanas, y á todo lo que es suyo; y que libraréis nuestras vidas de la muerte.
14Y ellos le respondieron: Nuestra alma por vosotros hasta la muerte, si no denunciareis este nuestro negocio: y cuando Jehová nos hubiere dado la tierra, nosotros haremos contigo misericordia y verdad.
15Entonces ella los hizo descender con una cuerda por la ventana; porque su casa estaba á la pared del muro, y ella vivía en el muro.
16Y díjoles: Marchaos al monte, porque los que fueron tras vosotros no os encuentren; y estad escondidos allí tres días, hasta que los que os siguen hayan vuelto; y después os iréis vuestro camino.
17Y ellos le dijeron: Nosotros seremos desobligados de este juramento con que nos has conjurado.
18He aquí, cuando nosotros entráremos en la tierra, tú atarás este cordón de grana á la ventana por la cual nos descolgaste: y tú juntarás en tu casa tu padre y tu madre, tus hermanos y toda la familia de tu padre.
19Cualquiera que saliere fuera de las puertas de tu casa, su sangre será sobre su cabeza, y nosotros sin culpa. Mas cualquiera que se estuviere en casa contigo, su sangre será sobre nuestra cabeza, si mano le tocare.
20Y si tú denunciares este nuestro negocio, nosotros seremos desobligados de este tu juramento con que nos has juramentado.
21Y ella respondió: Sea así como habéis dicho. Luego los despidió, y se fueron: y ella ató el cordón de grana á la ventana.
22Y caminando ellos, llegaron al monte, y estuvieron allí tres días, hasta que los que los seguían se hubiesen vuelto: y los que los siguieron, buscaron por todo el camino, mas no los hallaron.
23Y tornándose los dos varones, descendieron del monte, y pasaron, y vinieron á Josué hijo de Nun, y contáronle todas las cosas que les habían acontecido.
24Y dijeron á Josué: Jehová ha entregado toda la tierra en nuestras manos; y también todos los moradores del país están desmayados delante de nosotros.
King James Version
1And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlot’s house, named Rahab, and lodged there.
2And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, Behold, there came men in hither to night of the children of Israel to search out the country.
3And the king of Jericho sent unto Rahab, saying, Bring forth the men that are come to thee, which are entered into thine house: for they be come to search out all the country.
4And the woman took the two men, and hid them, and said thus, There came men unto me, but I wist not whence they were:
5And it came to pass about the time of shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out: whither the men went I wot not: pursue after them quickly; for ye shall overtake them.
6But she had brought them up to the roof of the house, and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order upon the roof.
7And the men pursued after them the way to Jordan unto the fords: and as soon as they which pursued after them were gone out, they shut the gate.
8And before they were laid down, she came up unto them upon the roof;
9And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.
10For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.
11And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.
12Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the LORD, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father’s house, and give me a true token:
13And that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.
14And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business. And it shall be, when the LORD hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.
15Then she let them down by a cord through the window: for her house was upon the town wall, and she dwelt upon the wall.
16And she said unto them, Get you to the mountain, lest the pursuers meet you; and hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers be returned: and afterward may ye go your way.
17And the men said unto her, We will be blameless of this thine oath which thou hast made us swear.
18Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father’s household, home unto thee.
19And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him.
20And if thou utter this our business, then we will be quit of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear.
21And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window.
22And they went, and came unto the mountain, and abode there three days, until the pursuers were returned: and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but found them not.
23So the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun, and told him all things that befell them:
24And they said unto Joshua, Truly the LORD hath delivered into our hands all the land; for even all the inhabitants of the country do faint because of us.
World English Bible
1Joshua the son of Nun secretly sent two men out of Shittim as spies, saying, “Go, view the land, including Jericho.” They went and came into the house of a prostitute whose name was Rahab, and slept there.
2The king of Jericho was told, “Behold, men of the children of Israel came in here tonight to spy out the land.”
3Jericho’s king sent to Rahab, saying, “Bring out the men who have come to you, who have entered into your house; for they have come to spy out all the land.”
4The woman took the two men and hid them. Then she said, “Yes, the men came to me, but I didn’t know where they came from.
5About the time of the shutting of the gate, when it was dark, the men went out. Where the men went, I don’t know. Pursue them quickly. You may catch up with them.”
6But she had brought them up to the roof, and hidden them under the stalks of flax which she had laid in order on the roof.
7The men pursued them along the way to the fords of the Jordan River. As soon as those who pursued them had gone out, they shut the gate.
8Before they had lain down, she came up to them on the roof.
9She said to the men, “I know that the LORD has given you the land, and that the fear of you has fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land melt away before you.
10For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea before you, when you came out of Egypt; and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon and to Og, whom you utterly destroyed.
11As soon as we had heard it, our hearts melted, and there wasn’t any more spirit in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and on earth beneath.
12Now therefore, please swear to me by the LORD, since I have dealt kindly with you, that you also will deal kindly with my father’s house, and give me a true sign;
13and that you will save alive my father, my mother, my brothers, and my sisters, and all that they have, and will deliver our lives from death.”
14The men said to her, “Our life for yours, if you don’t talk about this business of ours; and it shall be, when the LORD gives us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with you.”
15Then she let them down by a cord through the window; for her house was on the side of the wall, and she lived on the wall.
16She said to them, “Go to the mountain, lest the pursuers find you. Hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers have returned. Afterward, you may go your way.”
17The men said to her, “We will be guiltless of this your oath which you’ve made us to swear.
18Behold, when we come into the land, tie this line of scarlet thread in the window which you used to let us down. Gather to yourself into the house your father, your mother, your brothers, and all your father’s household.
19It shall be that whoever goes out of the doors of your house into the street, his blood will be on his head, and we will be guiltless. Whoever is with you in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand is on him.
20But if you talk about this business of ours, then we shall be guiltless of your oath which you’ve made us to swear.”
21She said, “Let it be as you have said.” She sent them away, and they departed. Then she tied the scarlet line in the window.
22They went and came to the mountain, and stayed there three days, until the pursuers had returned. The pursuers sought them all along the way, but didn’t find them.
23Then the two men returned, descended from the mountain, crossed the river, and came to Joshua the son of Nun. They told him all that had happened to them.
24They said to Joshua, “Truly the LORD has delivered all the land into our hands. Moreover, all the inhabitants of the land melt away before us.”
