1E Josué, filho de Num, enviou desde Sitim dois espias secretamente, dizendo-lhes: Andai, reconhecei a terra, e a Jericó. Os quais foram, e entraram em casa de uma mulher prostituta que se chamava Raabe, e passaram a noite ali.
2E foi dado aviso ao rei de Jericó, dizendo: Eis que homens dos filhos de Israel vieram aqui esta noite a espiar a terra.
3Então o rei de Jericó, enviou a dizer a Raabe: Tira fora os homens que vieram a ti, e entraram em tua casa; porque vieram a espiar toda a terra.
4Mas a mulher havia tomado os dois homens, e os havia escondido; e disse: Verdade que homens vieram a mim, mas não soube de onde eram:
5E ao fechar-se a porta, sendo já escuro, esses homens saíram, e não sei para onde se foram: segui-os depressa, que os alcançareis.
6Mas ela os havia feito subir ao terraço, e havia os escondido entre talos de linho que naquele terraço tinha posto.
7E os homens foram atrás eles pelo caminho do Jordão, até os vaus: e a porta foi fechada depois que saíram os que atrás eles iam.
8Mas antes que eles dormissem, ela subiu a eles ao terraço, e disse-lhes:
9Eu sei que o SENHOR vos deu esta terra; porque o temor de vós caiu sobre nós, e todos os moradores desta terra estão apavorados por causa de vós;
10Porque ouvimos que o SENHOR fez secar as águas do mar Vermelho diante de vós, quando saístes do Egito, e o que fizestes aos dois reis pelos amorreus que estavam da parte dali do Jordão, a Seom e a Ogue, aos quais destruístes.
11Ouvindo isto, desmaiou nosso coração; nem restou mais espírito em alguém por causa de vós: porque o SENHOR vosso Deus é Deus acima nos céus e abaixo na terra.
12Rogo-vos, pois, agora, me jureis pelo SENHOR, que como fiz misericórdia convosco, assim a fareis vós com a casa de meu pai, do qual me dareis um sinal certo;
13E que salvareis a vida a meu pai e a minha mãe, e a meus irmãos e irmãs, e a todo o que for seu; e que livrareis nossas vidas da morte.
14E eles lhe responderam: Nossa vida esteja pela vossa até a morte, se não denunciardes este nosso negócio; e quando o SENHOR houver nos dado a terra, nós a trataremos com misericórdia e fidelidade.
15Então ela os fez descer com uma corda pela janela; porque sua casa estava à parede do muro, e ela vivia no muro.
16E disse-lhes: Marchai-vos ao monte, porque os que foram atrás vós não vos encontrem; e estai escondidos ali três dias, até que os que vos seguem tenham voltado; e depois vos ireis vosso caminho.
17E eles lhe disseram: Nós seremos desobrigados deste juramento com que nos hás conjurado.
18Eis que, quando nós entrarmos na terra, tu atarás este cordão de escarlate à janela pela qual nos fizeste descer: e tu juntarás em tua casa teu pai e tua mãe, teus irmãos e toda a família de teu pai.
19Qualquer um que sair fora das portas de tua casa, seu sangue será sobre sua cabeça, e nós sem culpa. Mas qualquer um que estiver em casa contigo, seu sangue será sobre nossa cabeça, se mão o tocar.
20E se tu denunciares este nosso negócio, nós seremos desobrigados deste teu juramento com que nos fizeste jurar.
21E ela respondeu: Seja assim como dissestes. Logo os despediu, e se foram: e ela atou o cordão de escarlate à janela.
22E caminhando eles, chegaram ao monte, e estiveram ali três dias, até que os que os seguiam se houvessem voltado: e os que os seguiram, buscaram por todo aquele caminho, mas não os acharam.
23E voltando-se os dois homens, desceram do monte, e passaram, e vieram a Josué filho de Num, e contaram-lhe todas as coisas que lhes haviam acontecido.
24E disseram a Josué: O SENHOR entregou toda esta terra em nossas mãos; e também todos os moradores desta terra estão apavorados por nossa causa.

1Y JOSUÉ, hijo de Nun, envió desde Sittim dos espías secretamente, diciéndoles: Andad, reconoced la tierra, y á Jericó. Los cuales fueron, y entráronse en casa de una mujer ramera que se llamaba Rahab, y posaron allí.
2Y fué dado aviso al rey de Jericó, diciendo: He aquí que hombres de los hijos de Israel han venido aquí esta noche á espiar la tierra.
3Entonces el rey de Jericó envió á decir á Rahab: Saca fuera los hombres que han venido á ti, y han entrado en tu casa; porque han venido á espiar toda la tierra.
4Mas la mujer había tomado los dos hombres, y los había escondido; y dijo: Verdad que hombres vinieron á mí, mas no supe de dónde eran:
5Y al cerrarse la puerta, siendo ya oscuro, esos hombres se salieron, y no sé á dónde se han ido: seguidlos apriesa, que los alcanzaréis.
6Mas ella los había hecho subir al terrado, y habíalos escondido entre tascos de lino que en aquel terrado tenía puestos.
7Y los hombres fueron tras ellos por el camino del Jordán, hasta los vados: y la puerta fué cerrada después que salieron los que tras ellos iban.
8Mas antes que ellos durmiesen, ella subió á ellos al terrado, y díjoles:
9Sé que Jehová os ha dado esta tierra; porque el temor de vosotros ha caído sobre nosotros, y todos los moradores del país están desmayados por causa de vosotros;
10Porque hemos oído que Jehová hizo secar las aguas del mar Bermejo delante de vosotros, cuando salisteis de Egipto, y lo que habéis hecho á los dos reyes de los Amorrheos que estaban de la parte allá del Jordán, á Sehón y á Og, á los cuales habéis destruído.
11Oyendo esto, ha desmayado nuestro corazón; ni ha quedado más espíritu en alguno por causa de vosotros: porque Jehová vuestro Dios es Dios arriba en los cielos y abajo en la tierra.
12Ruégoos pues ahora, me juréis por Jehová, que como he hecho misericordia con vosotros, así la haréis vosotros con la casa de mi padre, de lo cual me daréis una señal cierta;
13Y que salvaréis la vida á mi padre y á mi madre, y á mis hermanos y hermanas, y á todo lo que es suyo; y que libraréis nuestras vidas de la muerte.
14Y ellos le respondieron: Nuestra alma por vosotros hasta la muerte, si no denunciareis este nuestro negocio: y cuando Jehová nos hubiere dado la tierra, nosotros haremos contigo misericordia y verdad.
15Entonces ella los hizo descender con una cuerda por la ventana; porque su casa estaba á la pared del muro, y ella vivía en el muro.
16Y díjoles: Marchaos al monte, porque los que fueron tras vosotros no os encuentren; y estad escondidos allí tres días, hasta que los que os siguen hayan vuelto; y después os iréis vuestro camino.
17Y ellos le dijeron: Nosotros seremos desobligados de este juramento con que nos has conjurado.
18He aquí, cuando nosotros entráremos en la tierra, tú atarás este cordón de grana á la ventana por la cual nos descolgaste: y tú juntarás en tu casa tu padre y tu madre, tus hermanos y toda la familia de tu padre.
19Cualquiera que saliere fuera de las puertas de tu casa, su sangre será sobre su cabeza, y nosotros sin culpa. Mas cualquiera que se estuviere en casa contigo, su sangre será sobre nuestra cabeza, si mano le tocare.
20Y si tú denunciares este nuestro negocio, nosotros seremos desobligados de este tu juramento con que nos has juramentado.
21Y ella respondió: Sea así como habéis dicho. Luego los despidió, y se fueron: y ella ató el cordón de grana á la ventana.
22Y caminando ellos, llegaron al monte, y estuvieron allí tres días, hasta que los que los seguían se hubiesen vuelto: y los que los siguieron, buscaron por todo el camino, mas no los hallaron.
23Y tornándose los dos varones, descendieron del monte, y pasaron, y vinieron á Josué hijo de Nun, y contáronle todas las cosas que les habían acontecido.
24Y dijeron á Josué: Jehová ha entregado toda la tierra en nuestras manos; y también todos los moradores del país están desmayados delante de nosotros.
King James Version
1And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlot’s house, named Rahab, and lodged there.
2And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, Behold, there came men in hither to night of the children of Israel to search out the country.
3And the king of Jericho sent unto Rahab, saying, Bring forth the men that are come to thee, which are entered into thine house: for they be come to search out all the country.
4And the woman took the two men, and hid them, and said thus, There came men unto me, but I wist not whence they were:
5And it came to pass about the time of shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out: whither the men went I wot not: pursue after them quickly; for ye shall overtake them.
6But she had brought them up to the roof of the house, and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order upon the roof.
7And the men pursued after them the way to Jordan unto the fords: and as soon as they which pursued after them were gone out, they shut the gate.
8And before they were laid down, she came up unto them upon the roof;
9And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.
10For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.
11And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.
12Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the LORD, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father’s house, and give me a true token:
13And that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.
14And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business. And it shall be, when the LORD hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.
15Then she let them down by a cord through the window: for her house was upon the town wall, and she dwelt upon the wall.
16And she said unto them, Get you to the mountain, lest the pursuers meet you; and hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers be returned: and afterward may ye go your way.
17And the men said unto her, We will be blameless of this thine oath which thou hast made us swear.
18Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father’s household, home unto thee.
19And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him.
20And if thou utter this our business, then we will be quit of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear.
21And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window.
22And they went, and came unto the mountain, and abode there three days, until the pursuers were returned: and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but found them not.
23So the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun, and told him all things that befell them:
24And they said unto Joshua, Truly the LORD hath delivered into our hands all the land; for even all the inhabitants of the country do faint because of us.
World English Bible
1Joshua the son of Nun secretly sent two men out of Shittim as spies, saying, “Go, view the land, including Jericho.” They went and came into the house of a prostitute whose name was Rahab, and slept there.
2The king of Jericho was told, “Behold, men of the children of Israel came in here tonight to spy out the land.”
3Jericho’s king sent to Rahab, saying, “Bring out the men who have come to you, who have entered into your house; for they have come to spy out all the land.”
4The woman took the two men and hid them. Then she said, “Yes, the men came to me, but I didn’t know where they came from.
5About the time of the shutting of the gate, when it was dark, the men went out. Where the men went, I don’t know. Pursue them quickly. You may catch up with them.”
6But she had brought them up to the roof, and hidden them under the stalks of flax which she had laid in order on the roof.
7The men pursued them along the way to the fords of the Jordan River. As soon as those who pursued them had gone out, they shut the gate.
8Before they had lain down, she came up to them on the roof.
9She said to the men, “I know that the LORD has given you the land, and that the fear of you has fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land melt away before you.
10For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea before you, when you came out of Egypt; and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon and to Og, whom you utterly destroyed.
11As soon as we had heard it, our hearts melted, and there wasn’t any more spirit in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and on earth beneath.
12Now therefore, please swear to me by the LORD, since I have dealt kindly with you, that you also will deal kindly with my father’s house, and give me a true sign;
13and that you will save alive my father, my mother, my brothers, and my sisters, and all that they have, and will deliver our lives from death.”
14The men said to her, “Our life for yours, if you don’t talk about this business of ours; and it shall be, when the LORD gives us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with you.”
15Then she let them down by a cord through the window; for her house was on the side of the wall, and she lived on the wall.
16She said to them, “Go to the mountain, lest the pursuers find you. Hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers have returned. Afterward, you may go your way.”
17The men said to her, “We will be guiltless of this your oath which you’ve made us to swear.
18Behold, when we come into the land, tie this line of scarlet thread in the window which you used to let us down. Gather to yourself into the house your father, your mother, your brothers, and all your father’s household.
19It shall be that whoever goes out of the doors of your house into the street, his blood will be on his head, and we will be guiltless. Whoever is with you in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand is on him.
20But if you talk about this business of ours, then we shall be guiltless of your oath which you’ve made us to swear.”
21She said, “Let it be as you have said.” She sent them away, and they departed. Then she tied the scarlet line in the window.
22They went and came to the mountain, and stayed there three days, until the pursuers had returned. The pursuers sought them all along the way, but didn’t find them.
23Then the two men returned, descended from the mountain, crossed the river, and came to Joshua the son of Nun. They told him all that had happened to them.
24They said to Joshua, “Truly the LORD has delivered all the land into our hands. Moreover, all the inhabitants of the land melt away before us.”
