Entonces EL SEÑOR le dijo a Josué:
Y HABLÓ Jehová á Josué, diciendo:

"Háblale al pueblo de Israel diciendo: 'Escojan las ciudades de refugio de las cuales Yo les dije a través de las escrituras de Moisés.
Habla á los hijos de Israel, diciendo: Señalaos las ciudades de refugio, de las cuales yo os hablé por Moisés;
Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses:
“Speak to the children of Israel, saying, ‘Assign the cities of refuge, of which I spoke to you by Moses,
Hagan esto para que la persona que asesine a otra sin intención pueda refugiarse allí. Estas ciudades serán un lugar de refugio para quien sea buscado por el vengador de la sangre derramada de una persona que haya sido asesinada.
Para que se acoja allí el homicida que matare á alguno por yerro y no á sabiendas; que os sean por acogimiento del cercano del muerto.
That the slayer that killeth any person unawares and unwittingly may flee thither: and they shall be your refuge from the avenger of blood.
that the man slayer who kills any person accidentally or unintentionally may flee there. They shall be to you for a refuge from the avenger of blood.
Él correrá hacia una de esas ciudades y se pondrá en la entrada de la puerta de la ciudad, y explicará su caso a los ancianos de esa ciudad. Entonces ellos lo llevarán dentro de la ciudad y le darán un lugar para vivir entre ellos.
Y el que se acogiere á alguna de aquellas ciudades, presentaráse á la puerta de la ciudad, y dirá sus causas, oyéndolo los ancianos de aquella ciudad: y ellos le recibirán consigo dentro de la ciudad, y le darán lugar que habite con ellos.
And when he that doth flee unto one of those cities shall stand at the entering of the gate of the city, and shall declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city, they shall take him into the city unto them, and give him a place, that he may dwell among them.

Y si alguno viene a tratar de vengar la sangre de la persona que fue asesinada, entonces las personas de la ciudad no entregarán a las autoridades a la persona que lo asesinó. Ellos no deben hacer esto, porque él asesinó a su projimo sin intención y sin odio premeditado hacia él.
Y cuando el cercano del muerto le siguiere, no entregarán en su mano al homicida, por cuanto hirió á su prójimo por yerro, ni tuvo con él antes enemistad.
And if the avenger of blood pursue after him, then they shall not deliver the slayer up into his hand; because he smote his neighbour unwittingly, and hated him not beforetime.
If the avenger of blood pursues him, then they shall not deliver up the man slayer into his hand; because he struck his neighbor unintentionally, and didn’t hate him before.
Él debe quedarse en esa ciudad hasta que haya enfrentado a la asamblea para juicio, hasta la muerte del que esté sirviendo como sumo sacerdote en esos días. Entonces el que accidentalmente asesinó a la persona podrá regresar a su pueblo, al pueblo de donde huyó."'
Y quedará en aquella ciudad hasta que parezca en juicio delante del ayuntamiento, hasta la muerte del gran sacerdote que fuere en aquel tiempo: entonces el homicida tornará y vendrá á su ciudad y á su casa y á la ciudad de donde huyó.
And he shall dwell in that city, until he stand before the congregation for judgment, and until the death of the high priest that shall be in those days: then shall the slayer return, and come unto his own city, and unto his own house, unto the city from whence he fled.

Así que los israelitas escogieron a Cedes en Galilea entre los montes de Neftalí, Siquem entre los montes de Efraín y Quiriat-arba (lo mismo que Hebrón) entre los montes de Judá.
Entonces señalaron á Cedes en Galilea, en el monte de Nephtalí, y á Sichêm en el monte de Ephraim, y á Chîriath-arba, que es Hebrón, en el monte de Judá.
And they appointed Kedesh in Galilee in mount Naphtali, and Shechem in mount Ephraim, and Kirjath-arba, which is Hebron, in the mountain of Judah.

And on the other side Jordan by Jericho eastward, they assigned Bezer in the wilderness upon the plain out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh.

Estas fueron las ciudades seleccionadas para todos los israelitas y para los extranjeros que residen entre ellos, para que cualquiera que asesinara a una persona sin intención pudiera correr hacia ellas para seguridad. Esta persona no moriría a mano del que quisiera vengar la sangre que fue derramada, hasta que la persona acusada se presentara delante de la asamblea.
Estas fueron las ciudades señaladas para todos los hijos de Israel, y para el extranjero que morase entre ellos, para que se acogiese á ellas cualquiera que hiriese hombre por yerro, y no muriese por mano del cercano del muerto, hasta que compareciese delante del ayuntamiento.
These were the cities appointed for all the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them, that whosoever killeth any person at unawares might flee thither, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stood before the congregation.
