¿No tiene el hombre dura labor en la tierra?¿No son sus días como los días de un hombre contratado?
CIERTAMENTE tiempo limitado tiene el hombre sobre la tierra, y sus días son como los días del jornalero.
Is there not an appointed time to man upon earth? are not his days also like the days of an hireling?
“Isn’t a man forced to labor on earth? Aren’t his days like the days of a hired hand?
Como un esclavo ansiosamente anhela las sombras de la tarde, como un hombre contratado mira por su paga—
Como el siervo anhela la sombra, y como el jornalero espera el reposo de su trabajo:
As a servant earnestly desireth the shadow, and as an hireling looketh for the reward of his work:
As a servant who earnestly desires the shadow, as a hireling who looks for his wages,
así, he sido hecho para soportar meses de miseria; me han sido dadas noches llenas de problemas.
Así poseo yo meses de vanidad, y noches de trabajo me dieron por cuenta.
So am I made to possess months of vanity, and wearisome nights are appointed to me.

Cuando me acuesto, me digo a mí mismo: ¿Cuándo me levantaré y cuándo se irá la noche? Estoy cansado de dar vueltas hasta que amanece.
Cuando estoy acostado, digo: ¿Cuándo me levantaré? Y mide mi corazón la noche, y estoy harto de devaneos hasta el alba.
When I lie down, I say, When shall I arise, and the night be gone? and I am full of tossings to and fro unto the dawning of the day.

Mi carne esta cubierta de gusanos y de costra de polvo; las llagas en mi piel se endurecen luego se disuelven y supuran.
Mi carne está vestida de gusanos, y de costras de polvo; mi piel hendida y abominable.
My flesh is clothed with worms and clods of dust; my skin is broken, and become loathsome.

Dios, recuerda que mi vida es solo un respiro; mis ojos no verán mas el bien.
Acuérdate que mi vida es viento, y que mis ojos no volverán á ver el bien.
O remember that my life is wind: mine eye shall no more see good.

El ojo de Dios, quien me ve, no me verá más; los ojos de Dios estarán sobre mi, pero yo no existiré.
Los ojos de los que me ven, no me verán más: tus ojos sobre mí, y dejaré de ser.
The eye of him that hath seen me shall see me no more: thine eyes are upon me, and I am not.
The eye of him who sees me will see me no more. Your eyes will be on me, but I will not be.
Como la nube es consumida y se desvanece, así el que baja al Seol no subirá más.
La nube se consume, y se va: así el que desciende al sepulcro no subirá;
As the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more.

Él no volverá más a su casa; ni su lugar le conocerá otra vez.

Por lo tanto no refrenaré mi boca; yo hablaré en la angustia de mi espíritu; yo me quejaré en la amargura de mi alma.

Cuando yo digo: 'Mi cama me consolará, y mi lecho suavizará mi queja,'

When I say, My bed shall comfort me, my couch shall ease my complaint;
When I say, ‘My bed will comfort me. My couch will ease my complaint,’
entonces, tú me asustas con sueños y me aterrorizas a través de visiones;
Entonces me quebrantarás con sueños, y me turbarás con visiones.
Then thou scarest me with dreams, and terrifiest me through visions:
then you scare me with dreams and terrify me through visions,
así que, yo escogería el estrangulamiento y la muerte en lugar de preservar estos huesos míos.

Aburríme: no he de vivir yo para siempre; déjame, pues que mis días son vanidad.

¿Quién es el hombre para que Tú le prestes atención, para que te acuerdes de él,
¿Qué es el hombre, para que lo engrandezcas, y que pongas sobre él tu corazón,
What is man, that thou shouldest magnify him? and that thou shouldest set thine heart upon him?
What is man, that you should magnify him, that you should set your mind on him,
para que Tú lo observes cada mañana y lo pruebes cada momento?
Y lo visites todas las mañanas, y todos los momentos lo pruebes?
And that thou shouldest visit him every morning, and try him every moment?

¿Cuánto tiempo pasará antes de que quites Tu mirada de mí, antes de que me dejes solo el tiempo suficiente para que trague mi propia saliva?
¿Hasta cuándo no me dejarás, ni me soltarás hasta que trague mi saliva?
How long wilt thou not depart from me, nor let me alone till I swallow down my spittle?
How long will you not look away from me, nor leave me alone until I swallow down my spittle?
Aún si he pecado, ¿qué te haria eso a Tí, Tú que vigilas a los hombres? ¿Porqué has hecho de mi un blanco, hasta convertirme en una carga para Tí?
Pequé, ¿qué te haré, oh Guarda de los hombres? ¿por qué me has puesto contrario á ti, y que á mí mismo sea pesado?
I have sinned; what shall I do unto thee, O thou preserver of men? why hast thou set me as a mark against thee, so that I am a burden to myself?
If I have sinned, what do I do to you, you watcher of men? Why have you set me as a mark for you, so that I am a burden to myself?
¿Porqué no perdonas mi transgresión y quitas mi iniquidad? Pues pronto me acostaré en el polvo; Tú me buscarás cuidadosamente, pero yo no existiré.
¿Y por qué no quitas mi rebelión, y perdonas mi iniquidad? porque ahora dormiré en el polvo, y si me buscares de mañana, ya no seré.
And why dost thou not pardon my transgression, and take away mine iniquity? for now shall I sleep in the dust; and thou shalt seek me in the morning, but I shall not be.
Why do you not pardon my disobedience, and take away my iniquity? For now will I lie down in the dust. You will seek me diligently, but I will not be.”
