"Oh, si solo mi angustia fuera pesada; ¡si solo toda mi calamidad fuera puesta en la balanza!
¡Oh si pesasen al justo mi queja y mi tormento, y se alzasen igualmente en balanza!
Oh that my grief were throughly weighed, and my calamity laid in the balances together!
“Oh that my anguish were weighed, and all my calamity laid in the balances!
Porque ahora sería más pesada que la arena de los mares. Es por esto que mis palabras fueron imprudentes.
Porque pesaría aquél más que la arena del mar: y por tanto mis palabras son cortadas.
For now it would be heavier than the sand of the sea: therefore my words are swallowed up.
For now it would be heavier than the sand of the seas, therefore my words have been rash.
Pues las flechas del Todopoderoso están en mí, mi espíritu bebe el veneno; los terrores de Dios se han arreglado en conjunto contra mí.
Porque las saetas del Todopoderoso están en mí, cuyo veneno bebe mi espíritu; y terrores de Dios me combaten.
For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, the poison whereof drinketh up my spirit: the terrors of God do set themselves in array against me.

¿Acaso el asno salvaje rebuzna en desespero cuando él tiene pasto? ¿O acaso muge el buey con hambre cuando tiene forraje?
¿Acaso gime el asno montés junto á la hierba? ¿muge el buey junto á su pasto?
Doth the wild ass bray when he hath grass? or loweth the ox over his fodder?
Does the wild donkey bray when he has grass? Or does the ox low over his fodder?
¿Puede eso que no tiene sabor ser comido sin sal? ¿O hay algún sabor en la clara de un huevo?
¿Comeráse lo desabrido sin sal? ¿ó habrá gusto en la clara del huevo?
Can that which is unsavoury be eaten without salt? or is there any taste in the white of an egg?
Can that which has no flavor be eaten without salt? Or is there any taste in the white of an egg?
Me rehuso a tocarlos; ellos son como comida asquerosa para mí.
Las cosas que mi alma no quería tocar, por los dolores son mi comida.
The things that my soul refused to touch are as my sorrowful meat.
My soul refuses to touch them. They are as loathsome food to me.
Oh, si yo pudiera tener mi pedido; oh, si Dios me concediera lo que ahnelo:
¡Quién me diera que viniese mi petición, y que Dios me otorgase lo que espero;
Oh that I might have my request; and that God would grant me the thing that I long for!

¡si se complaciera Dios en aplastarme de una vez, si Él dejara soltar su mano y me cortara de esta vida!
Y que pluguiera á Dios quebrantarme; que soltara su mano, y me deshiciera!
Even that it would please God to destroy me; that he would let loose his hand, and cut me off!

Pueda ésta todavia ser mi consolación—aún si yo me regocijo en dolor que no disminuye: que yo no he rechazado las palabras del Santo.
Y sería aún mi consuelo, si me asaltase con dolor sin dar más tregua, que yo no he escondido las palabras del Santo.
Then should I yet have comfort; yea, I would harden myself in sorrow: let him not spare; for I have not concealed the words of the Holy One.
Let it still be my consolation, yes, let me exult in pain that doesn’t spare, that I have not denied the words of the Holy One.
¿Qué es mi fuerza, que yo debo intentar esperar? ¿Cuál es mi final, para que yo deba prolongar mi vida?
¿Cuál es mi fortaleza para esperar aún? ¿y cuál mi fin para dilatar mi vida?
What is my strength, that I should hope? and what is mine end, that I should prolong my life?
What is my strength, that I should wait? What is my end, that I should be patient?
¿Mi fuerza es la fuerza de las piedras? ¿O es mi carne hecha de bronce?
¿Es mi fortaleza la de las piedras? ¿ó mi carne, es de acero?
Is my strength the strength of stones? or is my flesh of brass?
Is my strength the strength of stones? Or is my flesh of bronze?
¿No es verdad que yo no tengo ayuda en mí mismo, y que la sabiduría ha sido sacada fuera de mí?
¿No me ayudo cuanto puedo, y el poder me falta del todo?
Is not my help in me? and is wisdom driven quite from me?
Isn’t it that I have no help in me, that wisdom is driven away from me?
Para la persona que está a punto de desmayarse, la fidelidad debe ser mostrada por su amigo; aún para aquel que abandona el temor del Todopoderoso.
El atribulado es consolado de su compañero: mas hase abandonado el temor del Omnipotente.
To him that is afflicted pity should be shewed from his friend; but he forsaketh the fear of the Almighty.
“To him who is ready to faint, kindness should be shown from his friend; even to him who forsakes the fear of the Almighty.
Pero mis hermanos han sido tan fieles a mí, así como un lecho de arroyo del desierto, como canales de agua que pasan a ser nada,
Mis hermanos han mentido cual arroyo: pasáronse como corrientes impetuosas,
My brethren have dealt deceitfully as a brook, and as the stream of brooks they pass away;
My brothers have dealt deceitfully as a brook, as the channel of brooks that pass away;
los cuales son oscurecidos a causa del hielo sobre ellos, y a causa de la nieve que se esconde a sí misma en ellos.
Que están escondidas por la helada, y encubiertas con nieve;
Which are blackish by reason of the ice, and wherein the snow is hid:
which are black by reason of the ice, in which the snow hides itself.
Cuando ellos se descongelan, se desvanecen; cuando está caliente, ellos se derriten de su lugar.
Que al tiempo del calor son deshechas, y en calentándose, desaparecen de su lugar;
What time they wax warm, they vanish: when it is hot, they are consumed out of their place.
In the dry season, they vanish. When it is hot, they are consumed out of their place.
Las caravanas que viajan por su camino se desvían por agua; ellos vagan en tierra estéril y luego perecen.
Apártanse de la senda de su rumbo, van menguando y piérdense.
The paths of their way are turned aside; they go to nothing, and perish.
The caravans that travel beside them turn away. They go up into the waste, and perish.
Caravanas desde Tema miraron allí, mientras compañías de Sabá tenían esperanza en ellos.
Miraron los caminantes de Temán, los caminantes de Saba esperaron en ellas:
The troops of Tema looked, the companies of Sheba waited for them.
The caravans of Tema looked. The companies of Sheba waited for them.
Ellos estaban desilusionados porque habian estado confiados en encontrar agua. Ellos fueron allá, pero ellos fueron engañados.
Mas fueron avergonzados por su esperanza; porque vinieron hasta ellas, y halláronse confusos.
They were confounded because they had hoped; they came thither, and were ashamed.
They were distressed because they were confident. They came there, and were confounded.
Ahora, ustedes amigos son nada para mí; ustedes ven mi terrible situación y están asustados.
Ahora ciertamente como ellas sois vosotros: que habéis visto el tormento, y teméis.
For now ye are nothing; ye see my casting down, and are afraid.
For now you are nothing. You see a terror, and are afraid.
¿Le dije yo, 'Demen algo;' u, 'ofrézcanme un regalo de sus riquezas;'
¿Os he dicho yo: Traedme, y pagad por mí de vuestra hacienda;
Did I say, Bring unto me? or, Give a reward for me of your substance?
Did I ever say, ‘Give to me’? or, ‘Offer a present for me from your substance’?
o 'sálvenme de la mano de mi adversario;' o, 'rescátenme de la mano de mis opresores?'
Y libradme de la mano del opresor, y redimidme del poder de los violentos?
Or, Deliver me from the enemy’s hand? or, Redeem me from the hand of the mighty?
or, ‘Deliver me from the adversary’s hand’? or, ‘Redeem me from the hand of the oppressors’?
Enséñenme, y yo voy a mantener mi paz; háganme entender dónde yo he estado equivocado.
Enseñadme, y yo callaré: y hacedme entender en qué he errado.
Teach me, and I will hold my tongue: and cause me to understand wherein I have erred.
“Teach me, and I will hold my peace. Cause me to understand my error.
¡Cuán dolorosas son las palabras verdaderas! Pero sus argumentos, ¿cómo es que realmente me reprenden?
¡Cuán fuertes son las palabras de rectitud! Mas ¿qué reprende el que reprende de vosotros?
How forcible are right words! but what doth your arguing reprove?
How forcible are words of uprightness! But your reproof, what does it reprove?
¿Ustedes planifican ignorar mis palabras, tratando las palabras de un hombre desesperado como al viento?
¿Pensáis censurar palabras, y los discursos de un desesperado, que son como el viento?
Do ye imagine to reprove words, and the speeches of one that is desperate, which are as wind?
Do you intend to reprove words, since the speeches of one who is desperate are as wind?
Ciertamente, ustedes echan suertes por un niño sin padre, y regatean sobre su amigo como por mercancía.
También os arrojáis sobre el huérfano, y hacéis hoyo delante de vuestro amigo.
Yea, ye overwhelm the fatherless, and ye dig a pit for your friend.
Yes, you would even cast lots for the fatherless, and make merchandise of your friend.
Ahora, por lo tanto, por favor mírenme, pues seguramente yo no mentiría en sus caras.
Ahora pues, si queréis, mirad en mí, y ved si miento delante de vosotros.
Now therefore be content, look upon me; for it is evident unto you if I lie.
Now therefore be pleased to look at me, for surely I will not lie to your face.
Cedan, yo les ruego; no permitan que haya injusticia en ustedes. De hecho, cedan, pues mi causa es justa.
Tornad ahora, y no haya iniquidad; volved aún á considerar mi justicia en esto.
Return, I pray you, let it not be iniquity; yea, return again, my righteousness is in it.
Please return. Let there be no injustice. Yes, return again. My cause is righteous.
¿Hay maldad en mi lengua? ¿No puede mi boca detectar cosas malignas?
¿Hay iniquidad en mi lengua? ¿no puede mi paladar discernir las cosas depravadas?
Is there iniquity in my tongue? cannot my taste discern perverse things?
Is there injustice on my tongue? Can’t my taste discern mischievous things?
