Indi Giobbe aperse là bocca, e maledì il suo giorno,

DESPUÉS de esto abrió Job su boca, y maldijo su día.

After this opened Job his mouth, and cursed his day.

After this Job opened his mouth, and cursed the day of his birth.

E parlò così:

Y exclamó Job, y dijo:

And Job spake, and said,

Job answered:

Perisca il giorno, in cui io nacqui, e la notte, in cui si disse: E stato conceputo un uomo:

Perezca el día en que yo nací, y la noche que se dijo: Varón es concebido.

Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was said, There is a man child conceived.

“Let the day perish in which I was born, the night which said, ‘There is a boy conceived.’

Si cangi quel giorno in tenebre: non ne tenga conto lassù Iddio, e non sia rischiarato dalla luce.

Sea aquel día sombrío, y Dios no cuide de él desde arriba, ni claridad sobre él resplandezca.

Let that day be darkness; let not God regard it from above, neither let the light shine upon it.

Let that day be darkness. Don’t let God from above seek for it, neither let the light shine on it.

L'oscurino le tenebre, e l'ombra di morte, lo investa la caligine, e sia rinvolto nell'amarezza.

Aféenlo tinieblas y sombra de muerte; repose sobre él nublado, que lo haga horrible como caliginoso día.

Let darkness and the shadow of death stain it; let a cloud dwell upon it; let the blackness of the day terrify it.

Let darkness and the shadow of death claim it for their own. Let a cloud dwell on it. Let all that makes the day black terrify it.

Un turbine tenebroso occupi quella notte; non sia contata tra i giorni dell'anno, né faccia numero nei mesi.

Ocupe la oscuridad aquella noche; no sea contada entre los días del año, ni venga en el número de los meses.

As for that night, let darkness seize upon it; let it not be joined unto the days of the year, let it not come into the number of the months.

As for that night, let thick darkness seize on it. Let it not rejoice among the days of the year. Let it not come into the number of the months.

Quella notte sia solitaria, né sia degna di udire dei canti:

¡Oh si fuere aquella noche solitaria, que no viniera canción alguna en ella!

Lo, let that night be solitary, let no joyful voice come therein.

Behold, let that night be barren. Let no joyful voice come therein.

La maledicano quelli, che odiano il giorno, quei che ardiscono di svegliare il Leviathan:

Maldíganla los que maldicen al día, los que se aprestan para levantar su llanto.

Let them curse it that curse the day, who are ready to raise up their mourning.

Let them curse it who curse the day, who are ready to rouse up leviathan.

La sua caligine oscuri le stelle, aspetti ella la luce, né mai vegga la luce, né lo spuntar dell'aurora nascente:

Oscurézcanse las estrellas de su alba; espere la luz, y no venga, ni vea los párpados de la mañana:

Let the stars of the twilight thereof be dark; let it look for light, but have none; neither let it see the dawning of the day:

Let the stars of its twilight be dark. Let it look for light, but have none, neither let it see the eyelids of the morning,

Perocché ella non chiuse le porte del ventre che mi portò, e non sottrasse agli occhi miei la vista di questi mali.

Por cuanto no cerró las puertas del vientre donde yo estaba, ni escondió de mis ojos la miseria.

Because it shut not up the doors of my mother’s womb, nor hid sorrow from mine eyes.

Perché non morii nel seno stesso materno? perché non perii subito uscito dall'utero?

¿Por qué no morí yo desde la matriz, o fuí traspasado en saliendo del vientre?

Why died I not from the womb? why did I not give up the ghost when I came out of the belly?

“Why didn’t I die from the womb? Why didn’t I give up the spirit when my mother bore me?

Perché fui accolto sulle ginocchia? Perché alattato alle mammelle?

¿Por qué me previnieron las rodillas? ¿y para qué las tetas que mamase?

Why did the knees prevent me? or why the breasts that I should suck?

Why did the knees receive me? Or why the breast, that I should nurse?

Perocché adesso dormendo starei in silenzio, e nel mio sonno avrei riposo

Pues que ahora yaciera yo, y reposara; durmiera, y entonces tuviera reposo,

For now should I have lain still and been quiet, I should have slept: then had I been at rest,

For now I should have lain down and been quiet. I should have slept, then I would have been at rest,

Insieme coi re, e coi grandi della terra, che alzano fabbriche in luoghi deserti,

Con los reyes y con los consejeros de la tierra, que edifican para sí los desiertos;

With kings and counsellors of the earth, which built desolate places for themselves;

with kings and counselors of the earth, who built up waste places for themselves;

Ovver coi principi ricchi di oro, e i quali empievan le case loro di argento;

O con los príncipes que poseían el oro, que henchían sus casas de plata.

Or with princes that had gold, who filled their houses with silver:

Almen fossi stato senza sussistenza come un aborto, che si nasconde, o come quelli, che conceputi non vider la luce.

O ¿por qué no fuí escondido como aborto, como los pequeñitos que nunca vieron luz?

Or as an hidden untimely birth I had not been; as infants which never saw light.

Colà finiscono i tumulti degli empj, e colà riposano quelli che eran rifiniti di forze.

Allí los impíos dejan el perturbar, y allí descansan los de cansadas fuerzas.

There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the weary be at rest.

E quelli che erano già insieme alla catena, son senza molestie, non odono la voce del soprastante.

Allí asimismo reposan los cautivos; no oyen la voz del exactor.

Ivi sono il piccolo, e il grande, e il servo, ma libero dal suo padrone.

Per qual motivo fu conceduta la luce a un infelice, e la vita a quelli, che portano l'anima afflitta?

¿Por qué se da luz al trabajado, y vida á los de ánimo en amargura,

Wherefore is light given to him that is in misery, and life unto the bitter in soul;

I quali la morte, che non viene, aspettano, come si cerca un tesoro,

Que esperan la muerte, y ella no llega, aunque la buscan más que tesoros;

E son tutti giulivi quando han trovato il sepolcro:

Que se alegran sobremanera, y se gozan, cuando hallan el sepulcro?

Which rejoice exceedingly, and are glad, when they can find the grave?

A un uomo, il qual non vede sua strada, avendolo Dio circondato di tenebre?

¿Por qué al hombre que no sabe por donde vaya, y al cual Dios ha encerrado?

Why is light given to a man whose way is hid, and whom God hath hedged in?

Sospiro prima di prender cibo, e i miei ruggiti qual piena di acque che inonda:

Pues antes que mi pan viene mi suspiro; y mis gemidos corren como aguas.

For my sighing cometh before I eat, and my roarings are poured out like the waters.

For my sighing comes before I eat. My groanings are poured out like water.

Perocché quello che io temeva, mi è accaduto, e i miei sospetti si son verificati.

Porque el temor que me espantaba me ha venido, y hame acontecido lo que temía.

For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me.

For the thing which I fear comes on me, that which I am afraid of comes to me.

Non dissimulai io forse? non mi tacqui? non fui forse paziente? e l'ira è caduta sopra di me. Eliphai accusa Giobbe di impazienza, e vuol persuadergli, che pe’ suoi peccati egli è flagellato dà Dio, il quale non manda avversità all'innocente.

No he tenido paz, no me aseguré, ni me estuve reposado; vínome no obstante turbación.

I was not in safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet; yet trouble came.

I am not at ease, neither am I quiet, neither do I have rest; but trouble comes.”
