Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?

Ahora, ciñe tus lomos como un hombre, pues yo te haré preguntas y tú tienes que contestarme.
Ahora ciñe como varón tus lomos; yo te preguntaré, y hazme saber tú.
Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.
Brace yourself like a man, for I will question you, then you answer me!
¿Dónde estabas tú cuando Yo establecí los cimientos de la tierra? Dime, si tienes tanto entendimiento.
¿Dónde estabas cuando yo fundaba la tierra? házmelo saber, si tienes inteligencia.
Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.
“Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if you have understanding.
¿Quién determinó sus dimensiones? Dime, si tú sabes. ¿Quién estiró la línea de medida sobre ella?
¿Quién ordenó sus medidas, si lo sabes? ¿ó quién extendió sobre ella cordel?
Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?
Who determined its measures, if you know? Or who stretched the line on it?
¿Sobre qué fueron establecidos sus cimientos? ¿Quién estableció su piedra angular
¿Sobre qué están fundadas sus basas? ¿ó quién puso su piedra angular,
Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;
What were its foundations fastened on? Or who laid its cornerstone,
cuando las estrellas de la mañana cantaron unidas y todos los hijos de Dios gritaron de alegría?
Cuando las estrellas todas del alba alababan, y se regocijaban todos los hijos de Dios?
When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

¿Quién cerró al mar con puertas cuando estalló, como si hubiese salido del vientre---
¿Quién encerró con puertas la mar, cuando se derramaba por fuera como saliendo de madre;
Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?
“Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it broke out of the womb,
cuando Yo le hice a las nubes sus vestidos, y a la densa oscuridad sus envolturas de vendas?
Cuando puse yo nubes por vestidura suya, y por su faja oscuridad.
When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,
when I made clouds its garment, and wrapped it in thick darkness,
Eso fue cuando Yo le marqué al mar Mi límite, y cuando Yo coloqué sus barras y puertas,
Y establecí sobre ella mi decreto, y le puse puertas y cerrojo,
And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors,
marked out for it my bound, set bars and doors,
y cuando Yo le dije: "Tú puedes llegar hasta aquí, pero no más lejos; aquí es donde Yo pondré Mi límite al orgullo de tus olas.'
Y dije: Hasta aquí vendrás, y no pasarás adelante, y ahí parará la hinchazón de tus ondas?
And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?
and said, ‘You may come here, but no further. Your proud waves shall be stopped here’?
¿Alguna vez, desde que tus propios días comenzaron, le has dado órdenes a la mañana para que comience y causado al amanecer de la mañana saber su lugar en la esquema de las cosas,
¿Has tú mandado á la mañana en tus días? ¿has mostrado al alba su lugar,
Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring to know his place;
“Have you commanded the morning in your days, and caused the dawn to know its place,
para que pueda sostener los lados de la tierra a fin de que las personas malvadas puedan ser sacudidas fuera de ella?
Para que ocupe los fines de la tierra, y que sean sacudidos de ella los impíos?
That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it?
that it might take hold of the ends of the earth, and shake the wicked out of it?
La tierra es cambiada en apariencia como el barro cambia bajo un sello; todas las cosas sobre ésta sobresalen claramente como los dobleces de una pieza de vestidura.
Trasmúdase como lodo bajo de sello, y viene á estar como con vestidura:
It is turned as clay to the seal; and they stand as a garment.
It is changed as clay under the seal, and presented as a garment.
De las personas malvadas su 'luz' le es quitada; su brazo levantado es roto.
Mas la luz de los impíos es quitada de ellos, y el brazo enaltecido es quebrantado.
And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm shall be broken.
From the wicked, their light is withheld. The high arm is broken.
¿Has ido a las fuentes de las aguas del mar? ¿Has caminado en las partes más bajas de la profundidad?
¿Has entrado tú hasta los profundos de la mar, y has andado escudriñando el abismo?
Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth?
“Have you entered into the springs of the sea? Or have you walked in the recesses of the deep?
¿Las puertas de la muerte te han sido reveladas? ¿Has visto las puertas de la sombra de la muerte?
¿Hante sido descubiertas las puertas de la muerte, y has visto las puertas de la sombra de muerte?
Have the gates of death been opened unto thee? or hast thou seen the doors of the shadow of death?
Have the gates of death been revealed to you? Or have you seen the gates of the shadow of death?
¿Has entendido a la tierra en su expansión? Dime, si lo sabes todo.
¿Has tú considerado hasta las anchuras de la tierra? Declara si sabes todo esto.
Hast thou perceived the breadth of the earth? declare if thou knowest it all.
Have you comprehended the earth in its width? Declare, if you know it all.
¿Dónde está el camino al lugar de descanso de la luz--- en cuanto a la oscuridad, dónde está su lugar?
¿Por dónde va el camino á la habitación de la luz, y dónde está el lugar de las tinieblas?
Where is the way where light dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof,
“What is the way to the dwelling of light? As for darkness, where is its place,
¿Puedes tú guiar a la luz y a la oscuridad a sus lugares de trabajo? ¿Puedes tú encontrar el camino de regreso a sus casas por ellos?
¿Si llevarás tú ambas cosas á sus términos, y entenderás las sendas de su casa?
That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, and that thou shouldest know the paths to the house thereof?
that you should take it to its bound, that you should discern the paths to its house?
Sin lugar a dudas tú sabes, pues habías nacido entonces; ¡el número de tus días es tan grande!
¿Sabíaslo tú porque hubieses ya nacido, ó porque es grande el número de tus días?
Knowest thou it, because thou wast then born? or because the number of thy days is great?
Surely you know, for you were born then, and the number of your days is great!
¿Has entrado a las casas de almacén para la nieve, o has visto las casas de almacén para el granizo,
¿Has tú entrado en los tesoros de la nieve, ó has visto los tesoros del granizo,
Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail,
Have you entered the storehouses of the snow, or have you seen the storehouses of the hail,
estas cosas que Yo he guardado para tiempos de problema, para días de batalla y guerra?
Lo cual tengo yo reservado para el tiempo de angustia, para el día de la guerra y de la batalla?
Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?

¿Cuál es el camino a donde los relámpagos son distribuídos o donde los vientos son esparcidos desde el este sobre la tierra?
¿Por qué camino se reparte la luz, y se esparce el viento solano sobre la tierra?
By what way is the light parted, which scattereth the east wind upon the earth?
By what way is the lightning distributed, or the east wind scattered on the earth?
¿Quién ha creado los canales para las inundaciones de lluvia, o quién ha hecho las rutas para los estruendos de rayo,
¿Quién repartió conducto al turbión, y camino á los relámpagos y truenos,
Who hath divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder;
Who has cut a channel for the flood water, or the path for the thunderstorm,
para causar que llueva sobre tierras donde ninguna persona existe, y sobre el desierto, en el cual no hay nadie,
Haciendo llover sobre la tierra deshabitada, sobre el desierto, donde no hay hombre,
To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man;
to cause it to rain on a land where there is no man, on the wilderness, in which there is no man,
para así encontrar las necesidades de las regiones estériles y solitarias, y para hacer brotar a la hierba tierna?
Para hartar la tierra desierta é inculta, y para hacer brotar la tierna hierba?
To satisfy the desolate and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth?
to satisfy the waste and desolate ground, to cause the tender grass to grow?
¿Hay un padre de la lluvia? ¿Quién ha engendrado las gotas de rocío?

Hath the rain a father? or who hath begotten the drops of dew?

¿Del vientre de quién el hielo provino? ¿Quién dio a luz a la escarcha blanca del cielo?
¿De qué vientre salió el hielo? y la escarcha del cielo, ¿quién la engendró?
Out of whose womb came the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it?
Whose womb did the ice come out of? Who has given birth to the gray frost of the sky?
Las aguas se esconden y se vuelven como una piedra; la superficie de las profundidades se congela.
Las aguas se endurecen á manera de piedra, y congélase la haz del abismo.
The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.
The waters become hard like stone, when the surface of the deep is frozen.
¿Puedes atar las cadenas sobre las Pléyades o deshacer las cuerdas de Orión?
¿Podrás tú impedir las delicias de las Pléyades, ó desatarás las ligaduras del Orión?
Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?
“Can you bind the cluster of the Pleiades, or loosen the cords of Orion?
¿Puedes guiar a las constelaciones para aparecer en sus propios tiempos? ¿Puedes guiar a la Osa con sus hijos?
¿Sacarás tú á su tiempo los signos de los cielos, ó guiarás el Arcturo con sus hijos?
Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?
Can you lead the constellations out in their season? Or can you guide the Bear with her cubs?
¿Sabes las regulaciones del cielo? ¿Podrías poner en lugar la regla del cielo sobre la tierra?
¿Supiste tú las ordenanzas de los cielos? ¿dispondrás tú de su potestad en la tierra?
Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?
Do you know the laws of the heavens? Can you establish its dominion over the earth?
¿Puedes levantar tu voz hacia las nubes para que una abundancia de agua de lluvia pueda cubrirte?
¿Alzarás tú á las nubes tu voz, para que te cubra muchedumbre de aguas?
Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee?
“Can you lift up your voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover you?
¿Puedes enviar rayos de relámpago para que puedan salir, que ellos te digan, 'Aquí estamos?'
¿Enviarás tú los relámpagos, para que ellos vayan? ¿y diránte ellos: Henos aquí?
Canst thou send lightnings, that they may go, and say unto thee, Here we are?
Can you send out lightnings, that they may go? Do they report to you, ‘Here we are’?
¿Quién ha puesto sabiduría en las nubes o ha dado entendimiento a las neblinas?
¿Quién puso la sabiduría en el interior? ¿ó quién dió al entendimiento la inteligencia?
Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? or who hath given understanding to the heart?
Who has put wisdom in the inward parts? Or who has given understanding to the mind?
¿Quién puede numerar las nubes por su destreza? ¿Quién puede derramar cántaros de agua del cielo
¿Quién puso por cuenta los cielos con sabiduría? y los odres de los cielos, ¿quién los hace parar,
Who can number the clouds in wisdom? or who can stay the bottles of heaven,
Who can count the clouds by wisdom? Or who can pour out the containers of the sky,
cuando el polvo se vuelve una masa dura y los terrones de tierra se aglomeran apretadamente juntos?
Cuando el polvo se ha convertido en dureza, y los terrones se han pegado unos con otros?
When the dust groweth into hardness, and the clods cleave fast together?
when the dust runs into a mass, and the clods of earth stick together?
¿Puedes tú cazar una víctima para una leona o satisfacer el apetito de sus cachorritos

Wilt thou hunt the prey for the lion? or fill the appetite of the young lions,
“Can you hunt the prey for the lioness, or satisfy the appetite of the young lions,
cuando ellos están rugiendo en sus guaridas y refugiándose, escondiéndose para reposar y esperar?

When they couch in their dens, and abide in the covert to lie in wait?
when they crouch in their dens, and lie in wait in the thicket?
¿Quién provee víctimas para los cuervos cuando sus jovencitos claman a Dios y se tambalean por falta de comida?

Who provideth for the raven his food? when his young ones cry unto God, they wander for lack of meat.
Who provides for the raven his prey, when his young ones cry to God, and wander for lack of food?
