1Und Elihu hob an und sprach:
2Höret, ihr Weisen, meine Rede, / und ihr Verständigen, leiht mir euer Ohr! /
3Denn das Ohr soll die Rede prüfen, / wie der Gaumen die Speise kostet. / (a) Hio 12:11
4Das Rechte wollen wir uns erwählen, / miteinander erkennen, was gut sei. /
5Denn Hiob sagt: "Ich bin im Recht, / doch Gott hat mir mein Recht entzogen. / (a) Hio 13:18; 27:2
6Trotz meines Rechtes soll ich Lügner sein; / unheilbar wund bin ich, doch ohne Schuld." /
7Wo ist ein Mann wie Hiob, / der Lästerung trinkt wie Wasser, /
8der hingeht, sich den Übeltätern zu gesellen / und mit den Gottlosen zu wandeln? /
9Denn er sagt: "Dem Menschen nützt es nichts, / wenn er Gott gefällig lebt." / (a) Hio 9:22
10Darum, ihr Verständigen, höret mir zu! / Fern sei es von Gott, dass er Unrecht tue, / und vom Allmächtigen, dass er frevle! / (a) 5Mo 32:4; 2Ch 19:7
11Nein, er vergilt dem Menschen nach seinem Tun, / nach seinem Wandel lässt er's jedem ergehen. / (a) Ps 62:13; Jer 32:19; Mt 16:27; Rö 2:6
12Denn das ist gewiss: Gott tut nicht Unrecht, / und nicht verdreht der Allmächtige das Recht. /
13Wer hat ihm die Erde anbefohlen / und wer ihn gesetzt über den ganzen Erdkreis? /
14Wenn er zurücknähme seinen Geist / und seinen Odem an sich zöge - / (a) Ps 104:29
15verscheiden müsste alles Fleisch zumal, / und zum Staube kehrte der Mensch zurück. /
16Hast du nun Verstand, so höre dies / und leihe meiner Rede dein Ohr! /
17Kann auch herrschen, der das Recht hasst, / oder willst du den Gerecht-Gewaltigen verdammen? / (a) Hio 8:3; 1Mo 18:25
18Ihn, der da spricht zum König: "Du Nichtswürdiger!" / "Du Gottloser!" zu den Edlen, /
19der die Person der Fürsten nicht ansieht / und des Hohen nicht mehr achtet als des Niedern? / denn alle sind sie ein Werk seiner Hände. / (a) Hio 37:24; 5Mo 10:17
20Plötzlich sterben sie, inmitten der Nacht; / er schlägt die Hohen, und sie fahren dahin, / und den Starken beseitigt er, ohne die Hand zu rühren. /
21Denn seine Augen schauen auf die Wege des Menschen, / und alle seine Schritte sieht er. / (a) Hio 23:10; 31:4; Ps 139
22Kein Dunkel gibt's und keine Finsternis, / darin sich Übeltäter bergen könnten; /
23denn nicht ist dem Menschen Tag und Stunde angesagt, / da er vor Gott treten muss zum Gericht. /
24Er zerbricht Gewaltige ohne Untersuchung / und setzt andre an ihre Stelle. /
25Darum: er kennt ihre Werke, / er stürzt (sie) des Nachts, und sie werden zermalmt; /
26für ihre Missetat schlägt er sie an einem Orte, / wo viele es sehen, /
27weil sie von ihm gewichen sind / und aller seiner Wege nicht geachtet haben, /
28indem er des Armen Geschrei vor sich kommen liess / und die Klage der Bedrückten erhörte. /
29Doch hält er sich ruhig, wer will verdammen? / verhüllt er sein Angesicht, wer will ihn schauen? / Über Volk und Menschen aber wacht er, /
30dass nicht ein Ruchloser König sei, / einer von denen, die das Volk verderben. /
31Wenn er nun aber zu Gott sagt: / "Ich überhob mich, will nicht mehr schlecht handeln; / (1) d.i. der Sünder.
32ich sehe es ein, belehre du mich! / Wenn ich Unrecht getan - ich tu's nicht wieder", /
33soll nach deinem Sinn er nun vergelten, / weil du es verwirfst? / denn du sollst entscheiden und nicht ich, / und was du weisst, das sage! /
34Verständige Leute werden mir sagen / und der weise Mann, der mir zuhört: /
35"Hiob redet mit Unverstand, / und seine Worte sind ohne Bedacht. /
36Ach, würde Hiob doch fort und fort geprüft, / weil er entgegnet nach der Art der Frevler. /
37Denn Frevel fügt er noch zu seiner Sünde, / in unsrer Mitte höhnt er laut / und macht viel Redens wider Gott."

1ADEMÁS respondió Eliú, y dijo:
2Oid, sabios, mis palabras; y vosotros, doctos, estadme atentos.
3Porque el oído prueba las palabras, como el paladar gusta para comer.
4Escojamos para nosotros el juicio, conozcamos entre nosotros cuál sea lo bueno:
5Porque Job ha dicho: Yo soy justo, y Dios me ha quitado mi derecho.
6¿He de mentir yo contra mi razón? Mi saeta es gravosa sin haber yo prevaricado.
7¿Qué hombre hay como Job, que bebe el escarnio como agua?
8Y va en compañía con los que obran iniquidad, y anda con los hombres maliciosos.
9Porque ha dicho: De nada servirá al hombre el conformar su voluntad con Dios.
10Por tanto, varones de seso, oidme: Lejos esté de Dios la impiedad, y del Omnipotente la iniquidad.
11Porque él pagará al hombre según su obra, y él le hará hallar conforme á su camino.
12Sí, por cierto, Dios no hará injusticia, y el Omnipotente no pervertirá el derecho.
13¿Quién visitó por él la tierra? ¿y quién puso en orden todo el mundo?
14Si él pusiese sobre el hombre su corazón, y recogiese así su espíritu y su aliento,
15Toda carne perecería juntamente, y el hombre se tornaría en polvo.
16Si pues hay en ti entendimiento, oye esto: escucha la voz de mis palabras.
17¿Enseñorearáse el que aborrece juicio? ¿y condenarás tú al que es tan justo?
18¿Hase de decir al rey: Perverso; y á los príncipes: Impíos?
19¿Cuánto menos á aquel que no hace acepción de personas de príncipes, ni el rico es de él más respetado que el pobre? porque todos son obras de sus manos.
20En un momento morirán, y á media noche se alborotarán los pueblos, y pasarán, y sin mano será quitado el poderoso.
21Porque sus ojos están sobre los caminos del hombre, y ve todos sus pasos.
22No hay tinieblas ni sombra de muerte donde se encubran los que obran maldad.
23No carga pues él al hombre más de lo justo, para que vaya con Dios á juicio.
24El quebrantará á los fuertes sin pesquisa, y hará estar otros en su lugar.
25Por tanto él hará notorias las obras de ellos, cuando los trastornará en la noche, y serán quebrantados.
26Como á malos los herirá en lugar donde sean vistos:
27Por cuanto así se apartaron de él, y no consideraron todos sus caminos;
28Haciendo venir delante de él el clamor del pobre, y que oiga el clamor de los necesitados.
29Y si él diere reposo, ¿quién inquietará? si escondiere el rostro, ¿quién lo mirará? Esto sobre una nación, y lo mismo sobre un hombre;
30Haciendo que no reine el hombre hipócrita para vejaciones del pueblo.
31De seguro conviene se diga á Dios: Llevado he ya castigo, no más ofenderé:
32Enséñame tú lo que yo no veo: que si hice mal, no lo haré más.
33¿Ha de ser eso según tu mente? El te retribuirá, ora rehuses, ora aceptes, y no yo: di si no, lo que tú sabes.
34Los hombres de seso dirán conmigo, y el hombre sabio me oirá:
35Que Job no habla con sabiduría, y que sus palabras no son con entendimiento.
36Deseo yo que Job sea probado ampliamente, á causa de sus respuestas por los hombres inicuos.
37Porque á su pecado añadió impiedad: bate las manos entre nosotros, y contra Dios multiplica sus palabras.

1Furthermore Elihu answered and said,
2Hear my words, O ye wise men; and give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.
3For the ear trieth words, as the mouth tasteth meat.
4Let us choose to us judgment: let us know among ourselves what is good.
5For Job hath said, I am righteous: and God hath taken away my judgment.
6Should I lie against my right? my wound is incurable without transgression.
7What man is like Job, who drinketh up scorning like water?
8Which goeth in company with the workers of iniquity, and walketh with wicked men.
9For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.
10Therefore hearken unto me, ye men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.
11For the work of a man shall he render unto him, and cause every man to find according to his ways.
12Yea, surely God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment.
13Who hath given him a charge over the earth? or who hath disposed the whole world?
14If he set his heart upon man, if he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath;
15All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust.
16If now thou hast understanding, hear this: hearken to the voice of my words.
17Shall even he that hateth right govern? and wilt thou condemn him that is most just?
18Is it fit to say to a king, Thou art wicked? and to princes, Ye are ungodly?
19How much less to him that accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the poor? for they all are the work of his hands.
20In a moment shall they die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and pass away: and the mighty shall be taken away without hand.
21For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his goings.
22There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.
23For he will not lay upon man more than right; that he should enter into judgment with God.
24He shall break in pieces mighty men without number, and set others in their stead.
25Therefore he knoweth their works, and he overturneth them in the night, so that they are destroyed.
26He striketh them as wicked men in the open sight of others;
27Because they turned back from him, and would not consider any of his ways:
28So that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he heareth the cry of the afflicted.
29When he giveth quietness, who then can make trouble? and when he hideth his face, who then can behold him? whether it be done against a nation, or against a man only:
30That the hypocrite reign not, lest the people be ensnared.
31Surely it is meet to be said unto God, I have borne chastisement, I will not offend any more:
32That which I see not teach thou me: if I have done iniquity, I will do no more.
33Should it be according to thy mind? he will recompense it, whether thou refuse, or whether thou choose; and not I: therefore speak what thou knowest.
34Let men of understanding tell me, and let a wise man hearken unto me.
35Job hath spoken without knowledge, and his words were without wisdom.
36My desire is that Job may be tried unto the end because of his answers for wicked men.
37For he addeth rebellion unto his sin, he clappeth his hands among us, and multiplieth his words against God.
World English Bible
1Moreover Elihu answered,
2“Hear my words, you wise men. Give ear to me, you who have knowledge.
3For the ear tries words, as the palate tastes food.
4Let us choose for us that which is right. Let us know among ourselves what is good.
5For Job has said, ‘I am righteous, God has taken away my right.
6Notwithstanding my right I am considered a liar. My wound is incurable, though I am without disobedience.’
7What man is like Job, who drinks scorn like water,
8who goes in company with the workers of iniquity, and walks with wicked men?
9For he has said, ‘It profits a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.’
10“Therefore listen to me, you men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness, from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.
11For the work of a man he will give to him, and cause every man to find according to his ways.
12Yes surely, God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert justice.
13Who put him in charge of the earth? Or who has appointed him over the whole world?
14If he set his heart on himself, if he gathered to himself his spirit and his breath,
15all flesh would perish together, and man would turn again to dust.
16“If now you have understanding, hear this. Listen to the voice of my words.
17Should even one who hates justice govern? Will you condemn him who is righteous and mighty,
18who says to a king, ‘Vile!’ or to nobles, ‘Wicked!’?
19He doesn’t respect the persons of princes, nor respect the rich more than the poor, for they all are the work of his hands.
20In a moment they die, even at midnight. The people are shaken and pass away. The mighty are taken away without a hand.
21“For his eyes are on the ways of a man. He sees all his goings.
22There is no darkness, nor thick gloom, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.
23For he doesn’t need to consider a man further, that he should go before God in judgment.
24He breaks mighty men in pieces in ways past finding out, and sets others in their place.
25Therefore he takes knowledge of their works. He overturns them in the night, so that they are destroyed.
26He strikes them as wicked men in the open sight of others;
27because they turned away from following him, and wouldn’t pay attention to any of his ways,
28so that they caused the cry of the poor to come to him. He heard the cry of the afflicted.
29When he gives quietness, who then can condemn? When he hides his face, who then can see him? He is over a nation or a man alike,
30that the godless man may not reign, that there be no one to ensnare the people.
31“For has any said to God, ‘I am guilty, but I will not offend any more.
32Teach me that which I don’t see. If I have done iniquity, I will do it no more’?
33Shall his recompense be as you desire, that you refuse it? For you must choose, and not I. Therefore speak what you know.
34Men of understanding will tell me, yes, every wise man who hears me:
35‘Job speaks without knowledge. His words are without wisdom.’
36I wish that Job were tried to the end, because of his answering like wicked men.
37For he adds rebellion to his sin. He claps his hands among us, and multiplies his words against God.”
