1Doch höre nun, Hiob, meine Rede, und fasse alle meine Worte!
2Siehe doch, ich öffne meinen Mund, es redet die Zunge an meinem Gaumen;
3Meine Reden kommen aus aufrichtigem Herzen, und meine Lippen sprechen lautere Wahrheit aus.
4Der Geist Gottes hat mich gemacht, und der Odem des Allmächtigen belebt mich.
5Kannst du es, so widerlege mich; rüste dich, tritt vor mich hin!
6Siehe, ich stehe zu Gott, gleich wie du; auch ich bin vom Lehm genommen.
7Siehe, Furcht vor mir soll dich nicht schrecken, und ich will dir nicht lästig sein.
8Nun hast du vor meinen Ohren gesagt, und ich habe deine eigenen Worte gehört:
9«Rein bin ich, ohne Vergehen, unbefleckt und ohne Schuld!
10Siehe, er erfindet Beschuldigungen gegen mich, er hält mich für seinen Feind;
11er legt meine Füße in den Stock und lauert auf alle meine Schritte.»
12Siehe, das sagst du nicht mit Recht, darauf muß ich dir antworten; denn Gott ist größer als der Mensch.
13Warum haderst du denn mit ihm, da er doch keine seiner Taten zu verantworten hat?
14Sondern Gott redet einmal und zum zweitenmal, aber man beachtet es nicht.
15Im Traum, im Nachtgesicht, wenn tiefer Schlaf die Menschen befällt und sie in ihren Betten schlafen,
16da öffnet er das Ohr der Menschen und besiegelt seine Warnung an sie,
17damit der Mensch von seinem Tun abstehe und er den Mann vor Übermut beschütze,
18daß er seine Seele von der Grube zurückhalte, und sein Leben, daß er nicht renne ins Geschoß.
19Er züchtigt ihn mit Schmerzen auf seinem Lager, ein hartes Gericht geht über seinen Leib,
20daß ihm das Brot zum Ekel wird, seiner Seele die Lieblingsspeise;
21sein Fleisch schwindet dahin, man sieht es nicht mehr, und seine Gebeine, die man sonst nicht sah, werden bloß;
22seine Seele naht sich der Grube und sein Leben den Todesmächten.
23Wenn es dann für ihn einen Engel gibt, einen Mittler, einen aus Tausenden, der dem Menschen verkündigt seine Gerechtigkeit;
24wenn er sich über ihn erbarmt und spricht: «Erlöse ihn, daß er nicht zur Grube hinabfahre; ich habe ein Lösegeld gefunden!»
25Alsdann wird sein Fleisch wieder grünen von Jugendfrische, er wird wiederkehren zu den Tagen seiner Jugend;
26er wird zu Gott bitten, der wird ihm gnädig sein, ihn sein Angesicht mit Jauchzen sehen lassen und dem Menschen seine Gerechtigkeit wiedergeben.
27Er wird singen vor den Menschen und sagen: Ich hatte gesündigt und das Recht verkehrt; aber er hat mir nicht vergolten nach Verdienst;
28er hat meine Seele erlöst, daß sie nicht in die Grube gefahren ist, so daß mein Leben das Licht wieder sieht!
29Siehe, dies alles tut Gott zwei oder dreimal mit dem Menschen,
30daß er seine Seele vom Verderben herumhole und ihn erleuchte mit dem Lichte der Lebendigen.
31Merke auf, Hiob, höre mir zu, schweige, und ich will reden!
32Hast du aber Worte, so antworte mir, sage her, denn ich wünsche deine Rechtfertigung;
33wo aber nicht, so höre mir zu, schweige, und ich will dich Weisheit lehren!

1POR tanto, Job, oye ahora mis razones, y escucha todas mis palabras.
2He aquí yo abriré ahora mi boca, y mi lengua hablará en mi garganta.
3Mis razones declararán la rectitud de mi corazón, y mis labios proferirán pura sabiduría.
4El espíritu de Dios me hizo, y la inspiración del Omnipotente me dió vida.
5Si pudieres, respóndeme; dispón tus palabras, está delante de mí.
6Heme aquí á mí en lugar de Dios, conforme á tu dicho: de lodo soy yo también formado.
7He aquí que mi terror no te espantará, ni mi mano se agravará sobre ti.
8De cierto tú dijiste á oídos míos, y yo oí la voz de tus palabras que decían:
9Yo soy limpio y sin defecto; y soy inocente, y no hay maldad en mí.
10He aquí que él buscó achaques contra mí, y me tiene por su enemigo;
11Puso mis pies en el cepo, y guardó todas mis sendas.
12He aquí en esto no has hablado justamente: yo te responderé que mayor es Dios que el hombre.
13¿Por qué tomaste pleito contra él? Porque él no da cuenta de ninguna de sus razones.
14Sin embargo, en una ó en dos maneras habla Dios; mas el hombre no entiende.
15Por sueño de visión nocturna, cuando el sueño cae sobre los hombres, cuando se adormecen sobre el lecho;
16Entonces revela al oído de los hombres, y les señala su consejo;
17Para quitar al hombre de su obra, y apartar del varón la soberbia.
18Detendrá su alma de corrupción, y su vida de que pase á cuchillo.
19También sobre su cama es castigado con dolor fuerte en todos sus huesos,
20Que le hace que su vida aborrezca el pan, y su alma la comida suave.
21Su carne desfallece sin verse, y sus huesos, que antes no se veían, aparecen.
22Y su alma se acerca al sepulcro, y su vida á los que causan la muerte.
23Si tuviera cerca de él algún elocuente anunciador muy escogido, que anuncie al hombre su deber;
24Que le diga que Dios tuvo de él misericordia, que lo libró de descender al sepulcro, que halló redención:
25Enterneceráse su carne más que de niño, volverá á los días de su mocedad.
26Orará á Dios, y le amará, y verá su faz con júbilo: y él restituirá al hombre su justicia.
27El mira sobre los hombres; y el que dijere: Pequé, y pervertí lo recto, y no me ha aprovechado;
28Dios redimirá su alma, que no pase al sepulcro, y su vida se verá en luz.
29He aquí, todas estas cosas hace Dios dos y tres veces con el hombre;
30Para apartar su alma del sepulcro, y para iluminarlo con la luz de los vivientes.
31Escucha, Job, y óyeme; calla, y yo hablaré.
32Que si tuvieres razones, respóndeme: habla, porque yo te quiero justificar.
33Y si no, óyeme tú á mí; calla, y enseñarte he sabiduría.

1Wherefore, Job, I pray thee, hear my speeches, and hearken to all my words.
2Behold, now I have opened my mouth, my tongue hath spoken in my mouth.
3My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart: and my lips shall utter knowledge clearly.
4The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.
5If thou canst answer me, set thy words in order before me, stand up.
6Behold, I am according to thy wish in God’s stead: I also am formed out of the clay.
7Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, neither shall my hand be heavy upon thee.
8Surely thou hast spoken in mine hearing, and I have heard the voice of thy words, saying,
9I am clean without transgression, I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me.
10Behold, he findeth occasions against me, he counteth me for his enemy,
11He putteth my feet in the stocks, he marketh all my paths.
12Behold, in this thou art not just: I will answer thee, that God is greater than man.
13Why dost thou strive against him? for he giveth not account of any of his matters.
14For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not.
15In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;
16Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction,
17That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.
18He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.
19He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain:
20So that his life abhorreth bread, and his soul dainty meat.
21His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones that were not seen stick out.
22Yea, his soul draweth near unto the grave, and his life to the destroyers.
23If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to shew unto man his uprightness:
24Then he is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.
25His flesh shall be fresher than a child’s: he shall return to the days of his youth:
26He shall pray unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man his righteousness.
27He looketh upon men, and if any say, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not;
28He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.
29Lo, all these things worketh God oftentimes with man,
30To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.
31Mark well, O Job, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I will speak.
32If thou hast any thing to say, answer me: speak, for I desire to justify thee.
33If not, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I shall teach thee wisdom.

1“However, Job, please hear my speech, and listen to all my words.
2See now, I have opened my mouth. My tongue has spoken in my mouth.
3My words will utter the uprightness of my heart. That which my lips know they will speak sincerely.
4The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
5If you can, answer me. Set your words in order before me, and stand up.
6Behold, I am toward God even as you are. I am also formed out of the clay.
7Behold, my terror will not make you afraid, neither will my pressure be heavy on you.
8“Surely you have spoken in my hearing, I have heard the voice of your words, saying,
9‘I am clean, without disobedience. I am innocent, neither is there iniquity in me.
10Behold, he finds occasions against me. He counts me for his enemy.
11He puts my feet in the stocks. He marks all my paths.’
12“Behold, I will answer you. In this you are not just, for God is greater than man.
13Why do you strive against him, because he doesn’t give account of any of his matters?

26He prays to God, and he is favorable to him, so that he sees his face with joy. He restores to man his righteousness.
27He sings before men, and says, ‘I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it didn’t profit me.
28He has redeemed my soul from going into the pit. My life will see the light.’
29“Behold, God does all these things, twice, yes three times, with a man,
30to bring back his soul from the pit, that he may be enlightened with the light of the living.
31Mark well, Job, and listen to me. Hold your peace, and I will speak.
32If you have anything to say, answer me. Speak, for I desire to justify you.
33If not, listen to me. Hold your peace, and I will teach you wisdom.”
