1Mais maintenant, Job, écoute mes discours, Prête l'oreille à toutes mes paroles.
2Voici, j'ai ouvert la bouche, Ma langue s'est mise à parler dans mon palais.
3Je parlerai d'un cœur droit ; Mes lèvres diront fidèlement ce que je sais.
4C'est l'Esprit de Dieu qui m'a fait ; Le souffle du Puissant m'a donné la vie.
5Réponds-moi, si tu le peux, Prépare tes arguments ; prends position !
6Voici, je suis égal à toi devant Dieu ; Moi aussi, j'ai été formé d'argile.
7Voici, ma terreur ne te troublera pas, Mon poids ne t'accablera pas.
8Or donc, tu as dit devant moi, Et j'ai entendu le son de tes paroles :
9Je suis pur, sans faute, Je suis net, et il n'y a point d'iniquité en moi.
10Voici, Dieu trouve contre moi des griefs ; Il me regarde comme son ennemi.
11Il met mes pieds dans des ceps, Il surveille toutes mes voies.
12Voici, tu n'as pas raison en cela, je te le dis ; Car Dieu est plus grand que l'homme.
13Pourquoi as-tu contesté contre lui De ce qu'il ne répond à aucune parole ?
14Et pourtant Dieu parle une fois, Même deux, mais on n'y prend pas garde.
15En songe, en visions nocturnes, Quand un profond sommeil tombe sur les hommes Et qu'ils sont assoupis sur leurs couches,
16Alors il ouvre l'oreille des mortels Et y scelle les avertissements qu'il leur donne,
17Pour détourner l'homme de sa manière d'agir, Pour empêcher qu'il ne se livre à l'orgueil,
18Pour préserver son âme de la fosse, Et sa vie du trait qui la menace.
19Il est repris aussi par la douleur sur sa couche, Une lutte continuelle se livre dans ses os ;
20Sa vie lui fait prendre en dégoût le pain, Et son âme la nourriture la plus désirable.
21Sa chair se consume et disparaît, Ses os, qu'on ne voyait pas, sont mis à nu.
22Son âme s'approche de la fosse, Sa vie, de ceux qui donnent la mort.
23S'il y a pour lui un ange médiateur, Un entre mille, Qui lui annonce ce qu'il doit faire,
24Dieu a compassion de lui et dit : Rachète-le, qu'il ne descende pas dans la fosse ; J'ai trouvé une rançon !
25Sa chair alors prend plus de fraîcheur que dans sa jeunesse, Il revient aux jours de son adolescence.
26Il prie Dieu, et Dieu lui est propice Et lui fait voir sa face avec allégresse ; Il rend à l'homme sa justice.
27Il se tourne vers les hommes et dit : J'avais péché, j'avais enfreint la justice, Et je n'ai pas été traité comme je l'avais mérité.
28Il a racheté mon âme, pour qu'elle ne descendit pas dans la fosse. Je vis, et me repais de lumière.
29Voilà, toutes ces choses, Dieu les fait Deux fois, même trois, à l'homme,
30Pour ramener son âme de la fosse, Pour l'éclairer de la lumière de la vie.
31Sois attentif, Job, écoute-moi, Garde le silence, et moi je parlerai.
32Si tu as des paroles, réponds-moi, Parle, car je désire ta justification.
33Si tu n'as rien à dire, écoute-moi, Garde le silence, et je t'enseignerai la sagesse.

1POR tanto, Job, oye ahora mis razones, y escucha todas mis palabras.
2He aquí yo abriré ahora mi boca, y mi lengua hablará en mi garganta.
3Mis razones declararán la rectitud de mi corazón, y mis labios proferirán pura sabiduría.
4El espíritu de Dios me hizo, y la inspiración del Omnipotente me dió vida.
5Si pudieres, respóndeme; dispón tus palabras, está delante de mí.
6Heme aquí á mí en lugar de Dios, conforme á tu dicho: de lodo soy yo también formado.
7He aquí que mi terror no te espantará, ni mi mano se agravará sobre ti.
8De cierto tú dijiste á oídos míos, y yo oí la voz de tus palabras que decían:
9Yo soy limpio y sin defecto; y soy inocente, y no hay maldad en mí.
10He aquí que él buscó achaques contra mí, y me tiene por su enemigo;
11Puso mis pies en el cepo, y guardó todas mis sendas.
12He aquí en esto no has hablado justamente: yo te responderé que mayor es Dios que el hombre.
13¿Por qué tomaste pleito contra él? Porque él no da cuenta de ninguna de sus razones.
14Sin embargo, en una ó en dos maneras habla Dios; mas el hombre no entiende.
15Por sueño de visión nocturna, cuando el sueño cae sobre los hombres, cuando se adormecen sobre el lecho;
16Entonces revela al oído de los hombres, y les señala su consejo;
17Para quitar al hombre de su obra, y apartar del varón la soberbia.
18Detendrá su alma de corrupción, y su vida de que pase á cuchillo.
19También sobre su cama es castigado con dolor fuerte en todos sus huesos,
20Que le hace que su vida aborrezca el pan, y su alma la comida suave.
21Su carne desfallece sin verse, y sus huesos, que antes no se veían, aparecen.
22Y su alma se acerca al sepulcro, y su vida á los que causan la muerte.
23Si tuviera cerca de él algún elocuente anunciador muy escogido, que anuncie al hombre su deber;
24Que le diga que Dios tuvo de él misericordia, que lo libró de descender al sepulcro, que halló redención:
25Enterneceráse su carne más que de niño, volverá á los días de su mocedad.
26Orará á Dios, y le amará, y verá su faz con júbilo: y él restituirá al hombre su justicia.
27El mira sobre los hombres; y el que dijere: Pequé, y pervertí lo recto, y no me ha aprovechado;
28Dios redimirá su alma, que no pase al sepulcro, y su vida se verá en luz.
29He aquí, todas estas cosas hace Dios dos y tres veces con el hombre;
30Para apartar su alma del sepulcro, y para iluminarlo con la luz de los vivientes.
31Escucha, Job, y óyeme; calla, y yo hablaré.
32Que si tuvieres razones, respóndeme: habla, porque yo te quiero justificar.
33Y si no, óyeme tú á mí; calla, y enseñarte he sabiduría.

1Wherefore, Job, I pray thee, hear my speeches, and hearken to all my words.
2Behold, now I have opened my mouth, my tongue hath spoken in my mouth.
3My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart: and my lips shall utter knowledge clearly.
4The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.
5If thou canst answer me, set thy words in order before me, stand up.
6Behold, I am according to thy wish in God’s stead: I also am formed out of the clay.
7Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, neither shall my hand be heavy upon thee.
8Surely thou hast spoken in mine hearing, and I have heard the voice of thy words, saying,
9I am clean without transgression, I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me.
10Behold, he findeth occasions against me, he counteth me for his enemy,
11He putteth my feet in the stocks, he marketh all my paths.
12Behold, in this thou art not just: I will answer thee, that God is greater than man.
13Why dost thou strive against him? for he giveth not account of any of his matters.
14For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not.
15In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;
16Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction,
17That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.
18He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.
19He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain:
20So that his life abhorreth bread, and his soul dainty meat.
21His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones that were not seen stick out.
22Yea, his soul draweth near unto the grave, and his life to the destroyers.
23If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to shew unto man his uprightness:
24Then he is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.
25His flesh shall be fresher than a child’s: he shall return to the days of his youth:
26He shall pray unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man his righteousness.
27He looketh upon men, and if any say, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not;
28He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.
29Lo, all these things worketh God oftentimes with man,
30To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.
31Mark well, O Job, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I will speak.
32If thou hast any thing to say, answer me: speak, for I desire to justify thee.
33If not, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I shall teach thee wisdom.

1“However, Job, please hear my speech, and listen to all my words.
2See now, I have opened my mouth. My tongue has spoken in my mouth.
3My words will utter the uprightness of my heart. That which my lips know they will speak sincerely.
4The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
5If you can, answer me. Set your words in order before me, and stand up.
6Behold, I am toward God even as you are. I am also formed out of the clay.
7Behold, my terror will not make you afraid, neither will my pressure be heavy on you.
8“Surely you have spoken in my hearing, I have heard the voice of your words, saying,
9‘I am clean, without disobedience. I am innocent, neither is there iniquity in me.
10Behold, he finds occasions against me. He counts me for his enemy.
11He puts my feet in the stocks. He marks all my paths.’
12“Behold, I will answer you. In this you are not just, for God is greater than man.
13Why do you strive against him, because he doesn’t give account of any of his matters?

26He prays to God, and he is favorable to him, so that he sees his face with joy. He restores to man his righteousness.
27He sings before men, and says, ‘I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it didn’t profit me.
28He has redeemed my soul from going into the pit. My life will see the light.’
29“Behold, God does all these things, twice, yes three times, with a man,
30to bring back his soul from the pit, that he may be enlightened with the light of the living.
31Mark well, Job, and listen to me. Hold your peace, and I will speak.
32If you have anything to say, answer me. Speak, for I desire to justify you.
33If not, listen to me. Hold your peace, and I will teach you wisdom.”
